DELMAR — Mrs. Mary Ethel Beach, 53, wife of Sorn Beach, died yesterday in her home near Delmar, following a prolonged illness. Besides her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Benny Wells and two sons, Paul M. Beach and Preston A. Beach, all of Delmar; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Earl Sirman of Laurel, Mrs. Rhyspa Downes and Mrs. Norval Whaley, both of Delmar; four brothers, Floyd Brown, John Brown, Preston Brown and Harland Brown, all of Delmar. Services will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the Marvel Funeral Home, the Rev. Reed Morris and the Rev. Ruth Morris, of the Pilgrim Holiness Church in Laurel, will officiate. Interment will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery, here. Friends may call tonight at her late home and tomorrow after 12 at the funeral home.

BEACHY, Mrs. Althea M. Otto

Grantsville - Mrs. Althea M. Beachy, 91, died yesterday at the home of her son, Ellsworth Beachy, New Germany. A native of New Germany, she was a daughter of the late Christian J. and Clara (Arendt) Otto and was the widow of Elmer J. Beachy. She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, New Germany, and its Women's Guild, and was active in the Mars Hill Homemakers.  Also surviving is another son, Morris Beachy, here; three daughters, Mrs. Claude Yoder, Cumberland; Mrs. Nevin Warnick, Baltimore; and Mrs. David Broadwater, here; a brother, Samuel Otto, here; four sisters, Mrs. Floyd Broadwater, here; Mrs. Olon Broadwater, Miss Ruth Otto, Akron, Ohio; and Mrs. Austin Broadwater, Three Springs, Pa.; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. The body is at the Newman Funeral Home where friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.  A service will be conducted on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Trinity Church with Rev. Ernest Rumbaugh and Rev. Paul Westcoat officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. Wednesday. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Trinity United Church of Christ memorial fund.

SALISBURY, Pa. - Alvin S. Beachy, 57, of Route I, Salisbury, died yesterday at his home. Born at Grantsville, he was a son of Sam A. and Lydia (Hershberger) Beachy, of RD 1, Salisbury. He was a mechanic for Sam Beachy & Sons, a member of Friendship Haven Chapel in Cumberland, and the Gideons and Mountain Anthems in West Salisbury, Pa. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his widow, Lena (Tice) Beachy; one son, Robert S. Beachy of Hyndman; four daughters, Mrs. Miriam E. Miller, Hyndman, Mrs. Lois E. Yoder of Salisbury, Mrs. Martha J. Ackerman of Meyersdale, and Mrs. Judith E. Kemerer of Pittsburgh; two brothers, Menno S. Beachy and Sam Beachy Jr., both of Salisbury; two sisters, Mrs. Elva Yoder of Manassas, Va., and Miss Fannie Beachy of Salisbury; and 11 grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home in Grantsville today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Mountain View Christian Fellowship, West Salisbury, Pa., with the Rev. Noah Yoder and the Rev. Alvin Kanagy officiating. Interment will he in the church cemetery. The body will be taken to the church at 9:30 a.m.

GRANTSVILLE — Mrs. Barbara Beachy, 82, died yesterday at the Goodwill Mennonite Home. A native of Poole, Ontario, Canada, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Elizabeth (Steinman) Stenler, and was the widow of Samuel D. Beachy. She was a member of the Mennonite Church. Surviving are a son, Alvie R. Beachy and a daughter, Miss Rosie Beachy, Lancaster, Pa., and four grandchildren. The body is at the Newman funeral Home where friends will be received from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9 p.m. A service will be conducted tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Maple Glen Mennonite Church. Interment will follow in the Maple Glen Cemetery. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service.

BEACHY, Bradley William
 
AKRON, Ohio — Bradley William Beachy, age 28, of Akron, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010. He was born on June 8, 1982, in Cumberland, Md. Brad attended Allegany High School and was a 2000 graduate of Hoover High School. He was residing in Akron and attending Ohio College of MassoTherapy at the time of his passing. Brad loved music, he was an accomplished piano player and also played the flute, piccolo and oboe. While growing up, he was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cumberland, and played in their bell choir, as well as the bands at Braddock Middle School and Allegany High School. Brad will be greatly missed and loved forever by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Pauline Sheehe and Thomas and Elizabeth Beachy; and beloved uncle, Michael Sheehe. Brad is survived by his parents, Rodney and Paulette (Sheehe) Beachy of North Canton; his very much loved sister and brother-in-law, Beth and Alan Potts of Rio Rancho, N.M.; and cousins, uncles, aunts and best friends, C.J. and Mike. In honoring Brad's wishes, he will be cremated and a private memorial service will be held. Since Brad loved animals, memorial donations may be made to the Stark County Humane Society (5100 Peach St., Louisville, OH 44641) or the Animal Protection Guild (3124 Ninth St. SW, Canton, OH 44710). The Reed Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

LAVALE — Constance Helsel Beachy, 73, of LaVale, formerly of Swanton, died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011, at Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville.  Born Sept. 19, 1938, in Pittsburgh, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Lillian (Dando) Hamilton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl Reed Beachy, on Sept. 4, 2002.  Mrs. Beachy was a clerk for the California Department of Motor Vehicles and volunteered her time at the Grantsville Museum, the Frostburg Museum and the Allegany Courthouse Archives. She was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church and the Grantsville Historical Society.  She is survived by a son, Christopher Reed Beachy and wife Kathrine, of Gambrills; a daughter, Dawn Payment and husband Merv, of Silverdale, Wash.; six grandchildren, Seth Payment, Ezra Payment and wife Tomisha, Sarah Beth Beachy, Rebekah Leola Beachy, Jason Beachy and wife Latisha and Jennifer Anne Beachy; and three great-granddaughters, Kayla Marie Beachy, Brynn Sophia Beachy and Anna Grace Payment.  Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Monday, Dec. 26, 2011, from 8 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted in the funeral home on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. GRANTSVILLE — Earl L. Beachy, 60, of Springs, died suddenly yesterday at his home. Born in Bittinger, he was a son of Arletta (Thomas) Beachy, Bittinger, and the late Oliver Beachy. Besides his mother, he is survived by his widow, Anna Bertha (King) Beachy; a son, Gary Beachy, Frostburg; a daughter, Miss Marilyn Beachy, Goshen, Ind.; six brothers, Lloyd Beachy, Akron; Elvy Beachy, Moradore, Ohio; Ervin Beachy, Baltimore; Randall Beachy, Cresaptown; Charles Beachy, Bittinger, and Edison Beachy, LaVale; two sisters, Mrs. Alma Kinsinger, here, and Mrs. Mae Kelso, Accident. Mr. Beachy was a member of Springs Mennonite Church, WOW Camp 41, and was a veteran of World War II. A service will be conducted at the church Monday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Walter Otto officiating. LAVALE — Edison E. Beachy, 81, of LaVale, formerly of Bittinger, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004, in LaVale after a lengthy battle with cancer. Edison was born April 20, 1922 in Bittinger. He was the youngest son of Oliver and Arletta Beachy, Bittinger; and preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers; and one sister. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 51 years, Betty J. (Weimer) Beachy in March 1999. Mr. Beachy retired from Maryland State Highway Administrations’ Office of Real Estate after 40 years of service. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World, and participated throughout his years in fundraising activities for St. Michael’s Parish, Frostburg and Bishop Walsh School, Cumberland. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Frostburg. He is survived by two sons, Mark and his wife Elisa, Gainesville, Fla. and Kevin, LaVale. Mr. Beachy is also survived by one brother, Charles S. Beachy, Osewingo, Md.; and one sister, May Kelso, Oakland. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews; and a special granddaughter, Jamie L. Beachy, Tallahassee, Fla. A private service was conducted on Jan. 30, 2004, at Upchurch Funeral Home, Cumberland, by his second wife. No public visitation was held. Interment was at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Cumberland. In Mr. Beachy’s honor, his sons request any expressions of sympathy be directed to St. Michael’s Parish, 44 E. OAKLAND - Fred E. Beachy, 97, of Paul Friend Road, Oakland, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 1997, at the Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home, Oakland. Born Feb. 12, 1900, in Accident, he was the son of the late Silas C. and Mary A. (Bowser) Beachy. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Daisy D. (Harrison) Beachy in 1986. He purchased Hardesty Lumber Company and formed the Fred E. Beachy Lumber Company, Oakland, in 1951 and served as president until his retirement in 1995. He was a graduate of the Blue Ridge Academy, New Windsor, and the Parkersburg, West Virginia Business School. He was a former member of the Oakland Rotary Club joining in 1955 and was a member of the Maple Spring Church of the Brethren. He is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth A. Fike and husband the Rev. J. Rogers, Mountain Lake Park and Alice May Bookout and husband Gary D., Philippi, W.Va.; 12 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Services will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. John Crowe officiating. Interment will be in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens, Oakland. Beachy, 87, went to be with the Lord on Feb. 13, 2007, at Goodwill Nursing Home, Grantsville.  Goldie was born on April 1, 1919, in Grantsville, to the late Ben and Nora (Durst) Butler. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Elmer C. Beachy, Jan. 23, 1976; a son, Olen, May 31, 2003; two brothers, Pete and Byard; a sister, Eleanor "Sis"; and a grandson, Dan.  She is survived by her daughter, Donna Stahl and husband Ken, Berlin, Pa.; her daughter-in-law, Ada Marie Beachy, Grantsville; and a son, Marvin and wife Kay, Grantsville; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.  Goldie was a retired store clerk for G.W. Diefenbach Grocery Store and Buckel's Market after 27 years of service; lifetime member of Oak Grove Mennonite Church, Grants-ville; active in Oak Grove Assister's Ladies Group and other organizations in church her entire life. She enjoyed volunteering at World Attic, Somerset, Pa., and at Goodwill Nursing Home.  Friends will be received at Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.  Services will be conducted in Oak Grove Mennonite Church on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007, at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Grace A. Beachy, 77, of Grantsville, died at Meyersdale Community Hospital. Born at the Cove, she was a daughter of the late Lewis and Cora Alice (Speicher) Kamp. Grantsville - Joel A. Beachy, 97, one of the oldest residents of Garrett County, died yesterday at his home. A native of Grantsville, he was born on March, 28, 1873, and was a son of the late Aaron and Catherine (Folk) Beachy. His wife, Etta (Livengood) Beachy, preceded him in death. Mr. Beachy was a farmer and coal operator, a member of the United Church of Christ, and a former member of the Board of Directors of the Liberty Trust Company of Grantsville. He is survived by six sons: Forrest, Vernon and John Beachy, all of Grantsville; Walter and Irvin Beachy, both of Pittsburgh; and Roy Beachy, Salisbury, Pa.; four daughters, Mrs. Ruby Bittinger, Akron, Ohio; Mrs. Pearl Rosenberger and Mrs. Evelyn Hewitt, both of Grantsville; and Mrs. June Beckett, Cleveland; 27 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. The body is at the Newman Funeral Home where friends will be received today from 2 to 4 p. m. and 7 to 9 p. m. The body will be taken to the United Church of Christ at 1 p. m. tomorrow for a service at 2 p. m. Rev. Larry Diehl will officiate and interment will be in the Grantsville Cemetery.

John Markle Beachy, 90, Grantsville, died as the result of a farm tractor accident on Monday, June 25, 2007, at his residence.  Born April 30, 1917, in Grantsville, he was a son of the late Joel A. and Etta Sarah (Livengood) Beachy. He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Forrest, Walter, Irvin, Roy, and Vernon Beachy; and two sisters, Pearl Rosenberger and Ruby Bittinger.  He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Woodmen of the World, Lodge 41, and Garrett County Farm Bureau. He was a dairy and beef farmer.  He is survived by two sisters, June Beckett, Inverness, Fla., and Evelyn Hewitt, Grantsville; and a numberof nieces and nephews.  Friends were received on at Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, where a service was conducted on Monday, July 2, with the Rev. David E. Fetter officiating.  Interment was held in Grantsville Cemetery.  Expressions of sympathy may be sent to Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department.

PATTERSON CREEK, W.Va. — Kenneth John Beachy, 57 of Patterson Creek, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, in Sacred Heart Hospital. Born April 8, 1945, in Cumberland, the son of the late Randall E. and Agnes E. (Garlitz) Beachy. He was retired, as an electrician from Westvaco, was a member of the Electrical Union Local 307, the Cresaptown Eagles Aerie 2883, the National Rifle Association and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He is survived by two sons, Darrin J. Beachy of Patterson Creek, and Ryan J. Beachy of Cumberland; two grandchildren, Jordon J. and Tasha M. Beachy; a sister, Theresa A. Tysinger of Carpendale; and four brothers, Edwin R. Beachy of Mechanicsville, Darrell J. Beachy of Mechanicsville, Frank L. Beachy of Springfield and Randy W. Beachy of New Mexico. At Mr. Beachy’s request his body will be cremated. Memorial services will be conducted on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at 6 p.m. at the Hafer Funeral Service, Chapel of the Hills, 1302 National Highway, LaVale. Born Aug. 16, 1931, in Grantsville, he was the son of the late Forrest F. and Grace A. (Kamp) Beachy. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothey Jane Beachy, Dec. 22, 1932, and Bernice (Beachy) Merrill, Nov. 27, 1988; a brother, Robert Joel Beachy, Nov. 14, 1952, and was the grandson of the late Joel and Etta (Livengood) Beachy. Mr. Beachy was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ and was retired from Hill Top Fruit Market as a tractor-trailer driver and mechanic. He is survived by his wife, Juanita (Michael) Beachy; four children, Nancy Thomas and husband Jim, Grantsville, Mike Beachy and wife Kay, Barton, Lisa Blocher and husband John, Mooresville, N.C., and Mark Beachy and wife Dena, Barton; two sisters, Helen Bernhard and husband Bob, Snellville, Ga., and Wanda Sheffield, Grantsville; brother-in-law, Bill Merrill and wife Ruth, Salisbury, Pa.; one aunt, Evelyn Hewitt; and one uncle, John Beachy, both of Grantsville. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Jan Yommer, Jimmy Thomas, Tim Thomas, Justin Beachy, Tiffany (Beachy) Moran, Michael Blocher and Christopher Blocher; and nine great-grandchildren, Brody and Brayden Thomas, Matthew, Tylor and Joshua Thomas, Allison, Logan and Jenna Yommer and Rylee Elizabeth Moran; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. Ken, our husband and dad was a kind, gentle, fun-loving guy, always lending a helping hand to anyone who would need his help. He never met a stranger. FREDERICK — Marvin Fay "Marv" Beachy, 67, of Frederick, died Friday, Oct. 24, 2008 in his home. Born March 24, 1941 in Grantsville, he was the son of the late Vernon Clay and Bessie Gertrude (Wilburn) Beachy. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Carl R. Beachy, Eugene D. Beachy, Ronald L. Beachy; and a sister, Janet (Beachy) Carroll. Mr. Beachy was a retired plumber for the Local Union Number 5, Washington, D.C. He graduated in 1959 from Northern Garrett County and he was in the Army from 1959-1962. He was a member of the American Legion Post Number 11 and the PTSA at Thomas Johnson High School. He is survived by his wife, Donna Rae (Hersh) Beachy; a son, Jeremy Lee Hersh; three daughters, Jamie Lea Hersh, Lacy Faye Beachy and Holly Noelle Beachy; his dog, Poohbear Beachy; three brothers, William Beachy, Baltimore and Harold and Richard Beachy, both of Grantsville; two sisters, Mary Geouge, Frederick and Kathy McGregor, Glen Burnie; and step-mother, Alverda (Beitzel) Beachy, Accident. BEACHY, Mrs. Mildred Michael

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Mildred “Mike” Beachy, 97, died March 12, 2007, at her home in Anchorage of natural causes. She lived in Grantsville, Md., until 1990, when she moved to Anchorage to be with her daughter and son-in-law. Born Feb. 9, 1910, in Frostburg, Md., she was the daughter of the late Forrest O. and Margaret (Layman) Michael. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Morris “Coon” Beachy. Mildred graduated from the University of Maryland School of Nursing in 1933, and worked as a registered nurse in western Maryland and then as the county health nurse in Garrett County, Md. She retired from nursing in about 1970. She was a long -time member of Trinity United Church of Christ and a member of the American Red Cross. Mildred loved crafts. Some of her favorite hobbies included needlepoint and crocheting. She also loved to work crossword puzzles and play cards. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Zane and Clayton Dotson and Kay and Richard Platter, all of Anchorage; grandsons and wives, Michael and Maryann Platter, Colorado Springs, Colo., Douglas and Dana Platter, Hagerstown, Md.; great granddaughter, Shiloah Platter, Sierra Vista, Ariz.; sister, Helen Duckworth, Hanover, Pa.; and sister-in-law, Maxine Beachy Broadwater, Grantsville. A memorial service will be held at Trinity United Church of Christ, New Germany, on Saturday, April 14, 2007, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Philip Sorenson officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to Hospice or to Trinity United Church of Christ.

GRANTSVILLE: Olen Dale Beachy, 66, of 5809 Amish Road, Grantsville, died Saturday, May 31, 2003, at Meyersdale Medical Center, Meyersdale, Pa. Born May 15, 1937, in Meyersdale, he was a son of Goldie (Butler) Beachy, Grantsville, and the late Elmer Beachy. He was a member of Oak Grove Mennonite Church and had been employed at Goodwill Mennonite Home. Survivors include his wife, Ada M. (Yoder) Beachy; one son, Robert D. Beachy and wife, Desiree, and daughters, Emilee and Alexis, stationed with the U.S. Navy in Keflavik, Iceland; two daughters, Ruth Georg and husband Chad, and daughter, Christan, Accident, Md.; Rachel Beachy, Grantsville; one brother, Marvin Beachy and wife, Kay, Grantsville and one sister, Donna Stahl and husband, Ken, Berlin, Pa. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, Md. on Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Services will be conducted in the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Tim Fetterly officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to Northern Garrett Rescue Squad.

BEACHLEY, Frank J.

Services for Frank J. Beachley, 69, of 801 Hill Top Drive, who was killed in a one-car accident Saturday night at Clarysville, will be conducted on Wednesday at 2 p. m. at Johnson and Son Funeral Home in Berlin, Pa. Rev. L. 0. McCartneysmith and Rev. Ralph E. Mills will officiate and burial will be in Beachdale Cemetery, RD 4, Berlin. The body will be at the residence after 1 p. m. today and will be taken to the funeral home in Berlin at noon tomorrow. State Trooper Charles Snow said the accident occurred when the victim's car went out of control on the long sloping curve of U. S. Route 40 at Clarysville. He was born November 29, 1888 in Somerset County, Pa:, a son of the late Ira and Rebecca (Queer) Beachley. Mr. Beachley had been employed by the B&O for 49 years and was the regular conductor on Passenger Train No. 17 to Pittsburgh; and No. 8, the Shenandoah. He was a member of First Brethren Church and Local 440, Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen. Surviving are his widow, Annie (Brant) Beachley; a daughter, Mrs. Jack Williams, this city; a foster-daughter, Mrs. Hazel Shaulis, Berlin; four sisters, Mrs. Pearl Brant, RD 1, Garrett, Pa.; Mrs. Wilson Boyer, Berlin; Mrs. Helen Cover, RD 1, Garrett, and Mrs. Sheldon Hostetler, RD l, Berlin; six grandchildren and five foster-grandchildren. The Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen will conduct a service at the Johnson Funeral Home in Berlin tomorrow at 7:30 p. m. Those wishing transportation can call PA 2-0845.

BEAHAN, Mrs. Ellen

Mrs Ellen Beahan, 63, wife of Thomas W Beacham(sic), died Thursday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs Anthony McConnell, 534 Maryland Ave. Besides her husband she is survived by two daughters, Mrs G C King, Pitcairn, Pa and Mrs McConnell and one sister, Mrs Michael Quain, Montrose, Pa. The funeral will be held tomorrow morning, at 9 o'clock with requiem high mass at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
