Mrs. William Chamberlain died Tues. June 11, 1912, at her home at Antioch. Mrs. Chamberlain was formerly a Miss Markwood, and was a sister to J. H. Markwood, of this place. Beside her husband, she leaves three children, all grown. One daughter is married and a daughter and son are at home. The funeral took place Thurs. Interment at the Stone Chapel, near Ridgeville.

Died near Antioch, W. Va., June 11, 1912, Mrs. Mary Arbelin Chamberlain, age 60 years, 2 months, and 29 days. She leaves her husband, Wm. H. Chamberlin, and his brother Joseph Chamberlain; one son, Henry, and two daughters, Jane and Mrs. Lucy Metheny; three brothers, Jacob H. Markwood, Keyser, W. Va.; John W. Markwood, Burlington, W. Va.; Rev. Luke R. Markwood, of Winchester, Va.; and two sisters, Misses Nancy and Florence Markwood, Burlington, W. Va. She had been a sufferer almost constantly for over twelve years.. Through it all she was sweetly patient and bore all suffering with a murmur. She was converted in her girlhood days and was first identified with the M. E. church south, but later joined the M. E. Church and remained a faithful member until death. She was the daughter of Henry and Mary S. Markwood, and was married to William H. Chamberlin, May 9, 1878, at the old home near Burlington, by her brother, Rev. L. R. Markwood. Her trust in God was clear until the end. Funeral services were conducted at the Ridgeville church, by Rev. R. H. Bartlett, of Romney, and Rev. A. A. P. Neel, Burlington. The body was interred in the cemetery at the "Old Stone Chapel" near her childhood home.

CHAMBERS, Bernard J.

Frostburg, Sept. 18 - Bernard J. Chambers, this city, died Saturday at a hospital in Cleveland, after being ill since January.  Mr. Chambers, a World war veteran, who served eighteen months overseas, with the eighth division of the 308 motor supply train, left here about 25 years ago.  For many years he had been employed at the Pearl Street Bank, Cleveland. Besides his wife, the former Mary Cleary of Cleveland, he leaves his mother and the following children: Marie, Bernard, Raymond, and Jack, at home and one sister, Mrs. Arthur Folk, Homestead, Pa., and the following brothers, John, Niles, O.; Joseph, Cleveland; William, Tucson, Ariz.; Eugene, Woodston, N.J. and Leo, Francis and James, Frostburg.

Frostburg - John Chambers, former resident, died Saturday night at his home in Niles, OH from a heart attack.
A steelworker, Mr. Chambers had resided in OH for about 35 years after leaving here.
He is survived by his widow and seven children, and six brothers, Leo and Francis, Frostburg; James, Pittsburgh; Joseph, Cleveland; William, Sacramento, CA; and Eugene, Woodstown, N.J.

Frostburg - Leo V. (Zeb) Chambers, 72, was found dead at his residence, 27 Uhl Street, yesterday. Born in Frostburg, he was a son of the late John B. and Mary (McAllister) Chambers. A paint contractor, he was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church; the Holy Name Society; Knights of Columbus; Farrady Post 24, American Legion, and Eagles Aerie 1273.  He was a veteran of World War I. Surviving are four brothers, Eugene Chambers, Woodstown, N. J.; James Chambers, Butler, Pa.; Joseph Chambers, Cleveland, and William Chambers, Sacramento, Calif., and a number of nieces and nephews. The body is at the Durst Funeral Home where the family will receive friends today from 7 until 9 p.m. and tomorrow from 2 until 4 p.m. and 7 until 9 p.m.  A requiem mass will be celebrated Monday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Michael's  Church by Rev. Regis Larkin, assistant pastor, and interment will be in the parish cemetery.  The rosary will be recited tomorrow at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Mary Louise Jankey Chambers died yesterday at 2 P. M. at the home of her son, Charles Chambers, at Poplar Grove, where she has made her home for three years. Mrs. Chambers had been in ill health for two years, but had been bedfast for about six weeks, her death having been expected for the last few days. Mrs. Chambers was born in Maryland July 20, 1851. She was united in marriage to Lloyd Chambers, also of Maryland, who died in 1900. To this union 13 children were born. One son and two daughters are dead. The following survive: William, Oakland, Md.; Thomas, Norristown; Harry, Washington, D. C.: Robert, Searight; Lloyd, Buffalo, N. Y.; Mrs. Grace Brown, Kingston, N. M. ; Charles and Mrs. Ben Shippy, Connellsville. There are 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; also one brother, Charles Jankey of Masontown; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Thrasher, and a half-brother, Henry Bobits of Deer Park, Md. There will be a short service at the home of Charles Chambers Saturday at 10 A. M , with Dr. W. H. Hetrick officiating. The body will then be taken to Oakland, Md., where a service will be held at the church. Burial will be in the Odd Follows Cemetery where her husband is buried, in charge of Funeral Director C. C. Mitchell.

"Frostburg-Mrs. Thelma Kirby Chambers, 47, wife of James Chambers, former residents of Frostburg, died suddenly Wednesday evening in Butler Pa. Hospital after a short illness.  She was a daughter of the late William C. and Mary Isabelle Kirby, Eckhart.  Her brother, William, just arrived at her home in Butler for a visit when she was stricken and rushed to the hospital.  Surviving are the following children: James, Oakmont, Pa., who is attending Duquesne University; William, who is in the Marine Corps at Parris Island, S. C.; Tamra and Janania, both at home.  Also surviving are two brothers, William Kirby, Eckhart, and George Kirby, Frostburg and a sister, Mrs. Agnes Reinhart, Cumberland.  She was a former member of St. Michael's Catholic Church here.  Services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in Butler. Interment will take place there."

MT STORM ITEMS - Mr. Thomas Champ, whose illness we noted in a former correspondence, died Tuesday evening June 27. He was supposed to be about ninety years. While a message announcing his death was being conveyed by wire to his son at Laneville, a message was received from Laneville announcing the death of his son at the same hour on the same day.

FROSTBURG - Mrs. Anna G. Chaney, 63, of 67 Bowery Street, died last night at home, following a short illness. Born in Avilton, she was the daughter of the late Otho and Linnie (Weitzell) Fike. She was a member of the Church of the Brethren. Surviving are her husband, Oscar C. Chaney; one daughter, Mrs. Olin Wilhelm, Cleveland, Ohio; two sons, Dallas H. Chaney, Reisterstown, and Coy R. Chaney, Rockville; four sisters, Mrs. Laura Eichhorn, Frostburg; Mrs. Olive Robeson, Morantown; Mrs. Mildred Bell, Charlotte, N. WESTERNPORT - Mrs. Anna M. Chaney, 82, of 3232 North Rolling Road, Baltimore, died Saturday at her home. She was a former resident here. Born in Frostburg, Mrs. Chaney was a daughter of the late Thomas Farrady and Lula (Beeman) Farrady. Her husband, Ralph Chaney, died in 1967. Surviving are two brothers, William Farrady and Robert Farrady, both of Baltimore. The body will be cremated, with interment at a later date in Philos Cemetery. The Boal Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs Annie M Chaney, 86, wife of the late John W Chaney, died last night at 9:30 o'clock at the home of her son, Richard B Chaney, 940 Gay St.  Mrs. Chaney is survived by one other son, Ezekiel D. Chaney, and one daughter, Mrs. N. J. Coron, both of this city.  Two sisters, Mrs Margaret Brant, and Mrs Leonard Brant, this city also survive.  Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon, the Rev. Merrit Earl, pastor of Grace M.E. Church, officiating.  Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Emma Belle Chaney, 92, of 36 Laing Avenue, died yesterday at Memorial Hospital. Born in Cumberland, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Rebecca (Douffit) Willison, and was the widow of William J. Chaney. She was a member of Fort Ashby Methodist Church. Surviving are four sons, Isaac H. Chaney, Keyser; John W. Chaney, Fort Ashby; Edward E. Chaney, with whom she resided, and Jesse H. Chaney, city; three daughters, Mrs. Ollie White, Wiley Ford; Mrs. Anna Long, Tunnelton, and Mrs. Lillian Price, RD 2, Keyser; a brother, Riley Willison, Springfield; a sister, Mrs. Ella Largent, Akron, Ohio; 24 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren. The body is at the Scarpelli Funeral Home where friends will be received today and tomorrow. A service will be conducted Friday at 1 p. m. at Fort Ashby Methodist Church. Rev. Marian King and Rev. Charles Starkey will officiate and burial will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery. The body will be taken to the church at noon on Friday.

CHANEY, Mrs. Eva Willison

KEYSER – Mrs. Eva W. Chaney, 83, of RD 1, of here, died last night in Memorial Hospital. Born in Fort Ashby, she was a daughter of the late John and Bertha (Malone) Willison. Also preceding her in death were two husbands, John Walter Dixon and Isaac Henry Chaney. Mrs. Chaney was an artist and many of her paintings are in area churches. She is a member of the Cabin Run Wesleyan Methodist Church. Surviving are two sons, Max W. Dixon, Patterson’s Creek, and Walter E. Dixon, RD 1, Keyser; a sister, Mrs. Irene Krieger, Fort Ashby; ten grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Rotruck Funeral Home, Keyser, today and tomorrow. A service will be conducted Sunday at Cabin Run Wesleyan Methodist Church. The Rev. Glenn Dotson will officiate. Interment will be in the Fort Ashby Cemetery. The body will be taken to the church one hour before the service.

CHANEY, Ezekiel

Ezekiel Chaney, 78, a former resident of this city, died Thursday night, at the home of his daughter. Mrs. Howard Whetsell, Baker, near Moorefield, W. Va.  He had been in ill health for the past 13 years.  Mr. Chaney was employed as a machinist at the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company before he became ill.  He was a native of this City and a son of the late John and Anna Rice Chaney.  Also surviving are his widow, Mrs Mary M. Long Chaney; four sons. Earl D Chaney, Oldtown Road,manager of the Chaney Transportation Company here; Cloyd L.Chaney, 216 Charles Street, manager of the Chaney transfer company; Garland L Chaney, this city and Homer J. Chaney, North Braddock, Pa. One sister, Mrs. Nick Coron, and a brother, Richard Chaney, both of this city, and 10 grandchildren also survive.  The body will be brought this afternoon to the Kight Funeral Home for a service Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock by Rev. Chesley V. Daniel, assistant rector of the Emmanuel Episcopal church

Death of Mrs. Chaney.
Mrs. Jennetta Chaney died yesterday morning at the residence of a brother of the deceased on the Williams road, aged 25 years and six months. The deceased was the wife of Richard B. Chaney on Emily street.  About seven weeks ago she became afflicted with pulmonary trouble and was taken out on the Williams road, where it was hoped the air would prove beneficial. She is survived by a husband and two little children, a boy and a girl. The funeral will take place at 3 o'clock tomorrow afternoon from Kingsley M. K. church with the interment in Rose Hill cemetery

John W. Chaney, one of the best known citizens of this city, died at his home on Gay street last night at 7 o'clock from paralysis, aged 69 years. The deceased for many years was a boatbuilder, but later was a stationary engineer. He was born in Williamsport, Md., coming to Cumberland after the Civil War.  He was a member of the Improved Order of Red Men, being one of the oldest members, and likewise of Cumberland Nest, No. 90, Order of Owls, being invocator of that organization the past three years. A brother, ex-Patrolman Ezekiel Chaney, also lives in this city. He is survived by a wife and three children, Messrs. E. D. Chaney, R. B. Chaney, and Mrs. N. J. Coron, all of Cumberland. The funeral will probably take place Wednesday afternoon. The deceased was a most trustworthy and honest man, and was highly respected.

Born at Pekin, she was a daugbter of the late Lawrence and Catherine (Nolan) McKenzie. Surviving are two daughters, Miss Rose Ann Chaney, Pontiac, Mich., and Miss Josephine Chaney, at home; two brothers, Joseph McKenzie, Barton, and Edward McKenzie, Aliquippa, Pa.; and five sisters, Mrs. Mary Timney, Pontiac; Mrs. Wilhelmina Johnson, Flintstone; Mrs. Rose Mary O'Haver and Mrs. Angeline Whiteman, both of Pekin, and Mrs. Jennie Kenealy, Keyser. The body is at the Boal Memorial Chapel, where friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow. A requiem mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, with interment in Mt. View Cemetery, Moscow Mills. The Rosary will be recited at 8:15 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Mrs. Lucy N. Chaney, 78, of  Pennsylvania Avenue, died yesterday at Memorial Hospital. Born April 1, 1898 in Fort Ashby, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Calvin and Amelia (Bell) Garland. Her husband, Russell P. Chaney, preceded her in death. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church on Old Furnace Road. She is survived by three sons, Raleigh P. Chaney, Old Furnace Road; Leonard L. Chaney, at home; and Paul W. Chaney, Wichita Falls, Tex.; a daughter, Mrs. Helen O'Brien, Old Furnace Road; a brother, Wilbur Garland, Fort Ashby; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Wagoner, Fort Ashby, and Miss Nettie Garland, Canton, Ohio; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. The body is at the Scarpelli Funeral Home. Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Assembly of God Church on the Old Furnace Road, off W. Va. Route 28, by the Rev. Wilbur Elliott. Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Harold Smith, Delmer Ackerman, Jerry Gentry, Carlos Robison, Max Dixon and Robert Clark.

CHANEY, Mrs. Margaret Ellen Wolford

Margaret Wolford Chaney, 84, of Taneytown, formerly of Manchester, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007, at Lorien in Taneytown. Born Sept. 28, 1922, in Keyser, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Edward Henry and Bernice Palmer Wolford. She was the wife of Richard B. Chaney, who died in 1978. She graduated from Shepherd College. Before retiring, she was a teacher at Viers Mill Elementary School. She was a member of Piedmont Presbyterian Church in Piedmont, W.Va., and the Retired Montgomery County Teachers Association. Surviving are son and daughter-in-law Richard B. Jr. and Janice Chaney of Westminster; and grandsons Richard B. "Cory" III and Ryan R. Chaney, both of Towson, and Michael E. Chaney of Westminster. She was predeceased by her brother Edward Palmer Wolford. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Fredlock Funeral Home, 31 Jones St., Piedmont, W.Va., with the Rev. Paul Smith officiating. Interment will be in Philos Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Fletcher Funeral Home, 254 E. Mrs. Mary Veronica Chaney, 69, Miltenberger Road, Ridgeley, died last night in Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient one week. Born November 6,  1899 at Tunnelton, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William Fletcher Harvey and Ketherine Ellen (Murray) Harvey. She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Ridgeley, the Ladies Auxiliary of Sacred Heart Hospital, Catholic Daughters of America and the Third Order of St. Francis of SS. Peter and Paul Church. Surviving are her husband, John W. Chaney, Fort Ashby; two sons, Raymond H. Twigg, Lanham, Md.; John Chaney Jr., Ridgeley; two daughters, Sister Mary Blanche of the Mission Helpers of the Sacred Heart, Towson; Mrs. Catherine Hall, Rose Meade[sic], Calif.; two brothers, William F. Harvey Sr., this city; Joseph Harvey, St. Petersburg, Fla.; two halfbrothers[sic], Glenwood Harvey, St. Louis; James P. Harvey, Pasadena, Texas; one sister, Mrs. Gladys M. Westernport - Mrs. Minnie B. (Steinla) Chaney, 80, died this morning at her home at 428 Spruce street, after an illness of 18 months. Born at Finzel, she had resided here 55 years. She was the widow of Hudson Chaney. The body will be at the residence tomorrow.

FROSTBURG - Oscar C. Chaney, 76, of 75 Bowery Street, died last night in Frostburg Community Hospital where he was admitted July 20. Born at Avilton, he was a son of the late Walter Chaney and Alice (Whitman) Chaney. His wife, Anna (Fike) Chaney, died in 1972. Mr. Chaney was retired from the Amcelle Plant of Celanese Fibers Company and was a member of Frostburg Church of the Brethren. Surviving are two sons, Dallas H. Chaney, York, Pa.; Coy R. Chaney, Frostburg; a daughter Donna Marie Wilhelm, Wickliffe, Ohio; three brothers, Paul Chaney, both of Frostburg; the Rev. Connell Chaney, Petersburg, W.Va.; four sisters, Mrs. Hazel Robertson, Miss Vera Chaney, Mrs. Naomi Edsel, Mrs. Marie Bennett, all of Frostburg, and six grandchildren. Westernport - Ralph Thomas (Boss) Chaney died yesterday at his home, 512 Johnson Street. He had been in ill health for several years. A native of Westernport, he was a son of the late Hudson L. and Minnie (Steinla) Chaney and was a former employe of the West Virginia Pulp and Paper Company at Luke. Surviving are his wife, Anna (Farrady) Chaney; five brothers, Harley Chaney, Cumberland; Lester and Hudson Chaney Jr., here; Ercell Chaney, Laurel, and Dayton Chaney, Barton; a sister, Mrs. Thelma Smith, Keyser. The body is at the Boal Funeral Home. Service Saturday; interment Philos Cemetery.

Chaney Services
Services for Richard B. Chaney,71, of 600 Lafayette Avenue, who died Saturday at the home of George H. Twigg, Wiley Ford, will be conducted tomorrow at 10 a. m. at the George Funeral Home with Rev. M. A. Keesecker, pastor of Kingsley Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Mr. Chaney was the son of the late John and Merriah (Rice) Chaney. His wife, was Lettie (Nichol) Chaney, and he was the last member of his immediate family.  He had been employed at the Baltimore and Ohio YMCA and retired in January because of poor health. Justice of the Peace C. J. Phillips, Ridgeley, acting as coroner, investigated the death and ruled a heart attack as the cause. Chaney, who had been sitting in a chair, collapsed after getting up to go to another room. He died within a short time. A bottle containing medicine for a heart ailment was found in his pocket.

WESTERNPORT — Urcell Chaney, 57, of Laurel, died Saturday at Washington Center Hospital, Washington, D. C. He was a native of Westernport, the son of the late Hudson and Minnie Chaney. He was employed by the government at Fort Meade. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Beatrice (Foote) Chaney; two daughters, Darlene and Joanne of Laurel; four brothers, Harley A. Chaney, Cumberland; and Dayton, Hudson and Lester Chaney, Westernport; and one sister, Mrs. Thelma Smith, Westernport. Services will be conducted today at 1:30 p.m. at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Laurel, with interment to follow there.

Keyser, W. Va. – William J. Chaney, 90 year old retired farmer of Wiley Ford, died yesterday afternoon at his home. Mr. Chaney, a life-long resident of Wiley Ford, was a son of the late Isaac and Mariah (Haines) Chaney. Besides his wife, Mrs. Emma (Willison) Chaney, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Ollie White, Hendricks; Mrs. Anna Long, Tunnelton;  Mrs. Lillie Price, RD 2, Keyser. Also surviving are four sons, Henry Chaney, RD 1, Keyser; John Chaney, Wiley Ford; Eugene and Jessie Chaney, both of Cumberland; two sisters, Mrs. Milly Clingerman, Paw Paw; Mrs. Lavana Riley, Fort Ashby; two brothers, Alvin Chaney, Berlin, Pa.; George Chaney, Mountain Lake Park; 24 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted on Sunday in the Fort Ashby Methodist Church at 2 p.m., with Rev. Carl E. Burrows, pastor, in charge. Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery. Mrs. Zelene L. Chaney, 33, wife of Jesse H. Chaney, 41 Boone Street, died Saturday evening at 8:55 in Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient for six weeks, after a lingering illness of six months. She was a daughter of Mrs. Alice Kraus Henderson and the late William R. Henderson. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. Besides her husband, she leaves a son, Richard J. Chaney, at home; two daughters, Janice K. and Bonita C. Chaney, at home; a brother, Howard A. Henderson, Wiley Ford, W. Va., and three sisters, Mrs. Julia Golden, Fort Ashby, W.Va., Mrs. Grace Abe, Ridgeley, W. Va., and Mrs. Mary Couter, this city. The body will remain at Scarpelli Funeral Home.

Chapman, 431 Independence street, who died Friday at Allegany Hospital, were held this morning at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, with requiem mass celebrated by the Rev. Francis J. McKeown. Interment was in St. Michael's Cemetery, Frostburg. The pallbearers were: John Phillips, William V. Keegan, Frank Deffinbaugh, James J. Condon, Simon K. Carroll, and Robert Martin. Hazel May Chapman, 90, formerly of Ashfield Street, Piedmont, WV and 500 Carskadon Lane, Keyser, WV, died Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at Oak Springs of Warrenton, Warrenton, VA. Born on May 11, 1922 at Westernport, MD, she was a daughter of the late Tally V. and Stella May (Knapp) Hanna. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Holmes Chapman on March 15, 1998; her brothers, Stanley, Oscar, Irvin, John, James, George, Glenn and Rev. Tally Hanna; a sister, Hilda Mary Hanna and a son-in-law, Glenn Thomas. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mrs. Chapman was a 1940 graduate of the former Bruce High School. She was a homemaker and member of the First Assembly of God Church in Westernport where she had served as the choir director, the Women's Missionary leader and as a Sunday School teacher for 35 years. Surviving are a son, Holmes Edward Chapman and wife Kay of Gore, VA; a daughter, Georganna Thomas, Florida, and one granddaughter, Georjeanna Thomas of Lithia, FL. Funeral services will be conducted at the First Assembly of God Church, Maryland Avenue, Westernport on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Greg Hammond officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be Philos Cemetery, Westernport.

J. Walker Chapman, 76, of Borden Shaft, died yesterday at his residence. He had been in failing health the past several years. Born in Midlothian, he was a son of the late James and Margaret (Keir) Chapman. Mr. Chapman was a former Allegany County Roads Department supervisor, retiring in 1958, and was a veteran of World War I. He was a member of Shaft Methodist Church, Farrady Post 24, American Legion, Mountain Lodge 99, AF & AM and the Lonaconing Republican Club. Surviving are his widow, Pearl (Buckalew) Chapman; a daughter, Mrs. Arylss Grimes, Frostburg; a son, Jeffrey Chapman, at home; two sisters, Miss Eva Chapman, Turtle Creek, Pa., and Mrs. Vera Nave, Frostburg; a brother, Lester Chapman, Midlothian, and three grandchildren. A native of Shaft, he was a son of the late John A. and Catherine (Trapp) Chapman. A retired employe of Allegany Ballistics Laboratory, he was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society, and served as an usher. He was a member of Cumberland Council 586, Knights of Columbus and Chief Justice Taney General Assembly Fourth Degree, and BPO Elks Lodge 63. Surviving are his widow, Frances (Lyons) Chapman; a daughter, Mrs. Dennis W. Smith, LaVale; two brothers, George T. and Francis W. Chapman, city; five sisters, Mrs. Bruce Fisher, Salisbury, Pa.; Mrs. James Yarnall, Mrs. Edward F. Miller, Mrs. Merlyn F. Miller and Mrs. Joseph Chorpenning, all of this city; three grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Turtle Creek, Pa., and Mrs. Hanson Nave, Frostburg; two sons, Lester Chapman, Midlothian and Walker Chapman, Borden Shaft; and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Arnold, Midlothian; Mrs. Sada Skidmore, Bowling Green; and Miss Anna Kiers, Frostburg. Ten grandchildren also survive.

Mrs. Chapman was a member of Shaft Methodist Church and was past chief of Calanthe Temple 3, Pythian Sisters. Surviving are a daughter, Miss Jean Chapman, Washington; three sons, Harry Chapman, Washington; Daniel Chapman, a patient in Veterans Hospital, Dearborne, Mich.; and Richard Chapman, Detroit; two sisters, Mrs. Clarence Powers, Frostburg, and Mrs. Bessie McKenzie, Shaft; and two brothers, Richard and Allen Munsie, both of Detroit. Frostburg, Sept. 12 — Mrs. Nellie Skidmore Chapman, 46, wife of David Chapman, died at her home in Midlothian, this morning. Besides her husband, the survivors include five brothers and three sisters: Louis, Clifton, Mathew and Clarence Skidmore, Midlothian; and Howard Skidmore, Borden Shaft; Mrs. Frank Willetts, Midlothian; Mrs. Carl Werner, Dayton, Ohio, and Mrs. Harry Wolford, Frostburg. She was a member of the Pentacostal church.

CHAPPELL, James Robert, Sr.

MARIPOSA, Calif. — James R. 'Jim' Chappell Sr., 79, went to be with the Lord on Feb. 21, 2021, in Fresno. Born June 24, 1941, in Barton, the son of James E. and Evelyn (Russell) Chappell. He was preceded in death by sisters, Jean McElvie, Martha Clise, Shirley Clark and Bertie Bradley. Surviving are his wife, Marion (Steiding) Chappell, Mariposa; son, James R. Chappell (Tisa); daughter, Melissa Ray (Chris); and four beloved grandchildren, James Michael, Christopher Ryan, Riley Christopher and Chance Michael. Also surviving are brother, Charles Chappell and his sister, Betty Garey. Jim graduated from Valley High School, Class of 1959, Catherman's Business School, and pursued a very successful career in executive banking in Los Angeles. He loved traveling and working outdoors, especially on his large wooded property in Mariposa. He was a gentle soul and a kind family man with a caring heart and a deep love for his family, relatives and friends.

Mrs. Minnie J. Charles, 69, wife of Clyde S. Charles, died early today at the family home, 242 Davis road, after an illness of several months. Born in Indiana, June 1, 1865, she had been a resident of Mansfield for 42 years. Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, C. E. Little of Mansfield; three grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. W. C. Feely of Greensburg, Pa., Mrs. Marie Alexander of Canton, and Mrs. Mary Ebert of Mansfield; and two brothers, J. R. and H. C. Luman of Cleveland. The body was removed to the Wappner Funeral Home where it will remain for the services to be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in charge of Rev. W. H. Husting. Burial will be in the Mansfield cemetery.

CRESAPTOWN — Kenneth Dale Chase Sr., 57, of Cresaptown, died Monday, July 17, 1995, at his residence. Born June 20, 1938, in Mineral County, W.Va., he was the son of Robert J. Chase, Ridgeley, W.Va., and Patience (Malone) Swisher, Springfield, W.Va. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Kay Chase. Mr. Chase served in the Navy from 1956 to 1958. He was retired from the Celanese Corporation where he had been a spinner. More recently, he had been working as a guard for Quality Supplier, Keyser, W.Va. In addition to his parents, he is survived by five children, Kathy Lynn Dicker, Jacksonville, Fla.; Kenneth Dale Chase Jr., Fort Ashby, W.Va.; Kelly Ann Fenwick, Van Buren, Ark.; Karen Sue Horton, Cumberland; Kevin Harold Chase, Fort Ashby; one brother, James Swisher, Springfield; two aunts, Ruth Baker and Marion Simmons, both of Fort Ashby, and 12 grandchildren. Mr. Chase requested that his body be cremated. Friends will be received at the Fort Ashby Funeral Home on Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m., with services following, officiated by Rev. Jerry Eisenhour. Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery.

RIDGELEY, W.Va. — Paul Wayne Chase, 81, of Ridgeley, W.Va., died Sunday, Oct. 2, 1994, at the VA Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va. Born Oct. 30, 1912, in Ridgeley, he was the son of the late John C. and Flora B. (Albright) Chase. Mr. Chase was a World War II Army veteran, having served in the 101st Airborne. He was retired from the Celanese Corporation, where he had worked in the spinning department. Survivors include two sisters, Ruth E. Baker and Marion F. Simmons, both of Fort Ashby; one brother, Robert J. Chase, Ridgeley; a sister-in-law, Edith Chase and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be conducted on Friday at 2 p.m. at the Fort Ashby Cemetery with the Rev. Harley Baldwin officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the combined local veterans organizations.

SHORT GAP, W.Va. — Robert “Bob” Wayne Chase, 57, of Short Gap, died Wednesday, Oct. 19, 1994, at Sacred Heart Hospital. Born on March 13, 1937, in Cumberland, he was the son of Robert J. Chase, Ridgeley, W.Va., and Patience Madeline (Malone) Swisher, Springfield, W.Va. Mr. Chase was an iron worker. He was a member of the International Association of Bridge, Structural and Ornamental Iron Workers, Local 568. He was Methodist by faith. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Carol Ann (Colmer) Chase; two daughters, Melaney Lloyd and husband, Donald, Fort Ashby, Krista Rogan and husband, Gary, Short Gap; three grandchildren, Stephanie and Kyle Lloyd and Jarred Rogan; two special aunts, Ruth Baker and Marion Simmons, both of Fort Ashby and two brothers, Kenneth Chase, Pinto, and James Swisher, Springfield. Friends will be received at the Fort Ashby Funeral Home on Friday and Saturday. Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday with the Rev. Jerry Eisenhour and the Rev. Harley Baldwin officiating. Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery. Martha Ann (Dolly) Chedester, 73, of Tunnelton, died Thursday, August 12, 2010 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. She was born February 11, 1937, in Preston County, a daughter of the late Floyd and Mary Elizabeth Allen Wilhelm. She was an auto body technician for Chedester's Auto Body Shop and was a member of the Shepherd's Chapel, in Gravette AR. She is survived by her husband, Lewis S. Chedester; a daughter, Debbie Kay Wolfe and spouse, Terry, of Tunnelton; two grandchildren, Zachary Wolfe and spouse, Miranda and Spencer Wolfe. She was also preceded in death by a son, Lewis S. Chedester II, brother, Oliver; sisters, Shirley, Kathleen, Dorothy, Lelah, Rosalee, Betty and Willa. Funeral services were held Sunday, August 15, at the Browning Funeral Home with Debbie Wolfe officiating. Interment followed in the Rhodes Cemetery.

Sarah Jane (Shockey) Cheminant, 71, passed away, peacefully, at home, on June 23, 2007. She was born on July 18, 1935, to Henry H. and Lulu Belle (Landis) Shockey in Berlin, Pennsylvania. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Betty Lou Shockey and Jean Gindlesperger. Mrs. Ida May Chenowith, 68, died early this morning at her home, 527 North Centre street. She was a daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Howearth. A native of Westernport, she came here 40 years ago. Besides her husband, George E. Chenowith, she is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Mollie Whitfield, Altoona, Pa., and Mrs. Dollie Metz, city, and several nieces and nephews. She was a member of Centre Street Methodist Church. The body will be taken to the home this evening.

HAMPSHIRE NEWS, Review (Romney) of 19th, SPRINGFIELD - Mr. Hamp Cheshire, for many years a citizen of this neighborhood, but later moved to Patterson's Creek and was employed by the B&O railroad, died at his home there Wednesday. His remains were brought here on the 9:20 train Saturday morning. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. A. M. Earl in the Presbyterian church. Mr. Cheshire was married early in life to Miss Sallie Donaldson, who with several children, remains, and also a large number of relatives and friends.

Harry Cheshire, 57, of Fort Ashby, died yesterday in Sacred Heart Hospital. A native and lifelong resident of Fort Ashby, he was born November 7, 1903, a son of Mrs. Jessie Edna (Dowden) Rollins and the late John Thomas Cheshire. He was a transportation employee at Allegany Ballistics Laboratory. A charter member of Fort Ashby Volunteer Fire Company, he also was a member of Trinity Methodist Church there. Besides his mother, he is survived by his widow, Nora Louise (Buffer) Cheshire; a son, Harry T. Cheshire, at home, and two sisters, Mrs. Virgil Dyer, Short Gap, and Mrs. Harold O'Quinn, Decatur, Ga. The body is at the Scarpelli Funeral Home. Services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p. m. at Trinity Methodist Church, Fort Ashby, by Rev. Carl E. Burrows, with interment to be in Fort Ashby Cemetery.

WESTERNPORT — Margaret Ruth (Harris) Cheshire, 89, passed into her heavenly home from Moran Manor on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014. Born on July 23, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Margaret (Crawford) and Harry Harris. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Edward Cheshire and her brother, Robert Harris, of Frostburg. She was a devoted mother to 11 children. Surviving are children, Donna (Richard) Junkins of Keyser, W.Va., Sharon Fletcher of Harrisburg, Pa., Gary (Christa) Cheshire, Tom (Rosalind) Cheshire, Richard (Sally) Cheshire, all of Westernport, Susan Cheshire of Charleston, W.Va., James (Sandy) Cheshire of Grafton, W.Va., Melissa Saville, Kevin (Cathy) Cheshire of Poca, W.Va., Saundra Brotemarkle and Penny Hott. She is also survived by 26 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Born in Wheeling, W.Va., “Ruth” became a resident of Westernport when her parents moved to Green Street. She met and fell in love with John Cheshire and they were married on Oct. 2, 1941. Friends and family will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Sunday, Aug. 10, 2014. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home chapel on Monday, Aug. 11, 2014, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Steven Grimes officiating. Interment will be in Philos Cemetery, Westernport. Parsons, W. Va., April 22 - Victor, aged 15, son of Rev. E. G. Chipps, pastor of the Parsons Methodist Protestant Church, was drowned shortly after eight o'clock this morning when with another companion of the same age was hunting along the Blackwater River. The boys had killed a loon which floated into deep water just below the rapids at the tannery. Young Chipps, in an effort to procure the trophy, was carried into ten feet of water and drowned. The body was recovered about noon.

MEYERSDALE, May 10 - Mrs. Ada Florence Christner, 94 years old, died Friday at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lindaman, of a coronary occlusion. The daughter of the late Peter and Rachel Newman Wagner, she was born at Garrett, Md. The widow of Samuel J. Christner, who died six years ago, she leaves these children: Mrs. William Corley, of Boynton; Mrs. Mae Peck, of Waterloo, Iowa; Mrs. Lindaman; George, of Ypsilanti, Mich.; Irvin, of Huntingdon; and Clyde, of Johnstown. There are 25 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Finzel — Annabelle Walker Christner, 79, of Finzel, died Tuesday, September 14, 2004, at Frostburg Village Nursing Home., Frostburg. Born Dec. 16, 1924, in Boynton, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Russell and Gertrude (Bittner) Walker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis C. Christner. Mrs. Christner was a member of Boynton Church of God, Women of the LOO Moose, Frostburg and was a homemaker. She is survived by one son, Paris L. Christner and wife Deb; two daughters, Bonnie L. McKenzie and husband Henry and Doll Christner and companion Ed Winner, all of Frostburg; two sisters, Mary Schrock and Jane Barnhart, both of Salisbury; and two grandchildren, Scott McKenzie and Lacy McManus. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted in the funeral home on Friday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. David E. Fetter officiating. Interment will be in White Oak Cemetery, Meyersdale.

MEYERSDALE - Mrs. Betty D. Christner, 45, of RD 1, died yesterday at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland. Born at Summit Township, she was a daughter of Ralph Christner, and the late Sadie (Yoder) Christner. Besides her father, she is survived by her husband, Leroy Christner; two sons, Roger and Terry Christner, at home; a daughter, Kim Christner, at home; three brothers, Ray, Jack and James Christner, Akron, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Janet Gilpin, Akron, and Mrs. Eva Hotchkiss, Mogadore Ohio. She had been an employe of Meyersdale Manufacturing Company for more than 20 years. The body is at the Price Funeral Home where friends will be received until 9 p.m. today. GARRETT—Bruce Christner, 67, died Thursday. A native of here, he was a son of the late Rufus and Susan (Marker) Christner. Surviving are two brothers, Ralph Christner, RD 1, and Foster Christner, Salinas, Cal.; a sister, Mrs. Ruth Christner, Denver, Colo., and several nieces and nephews. MEYERSDALE, Sept. 11 — Calvin M. Christner, 84 years old, a retired school teacher and mail carrier, died Tuesday at his home in Larimer township. A lifelong resident of Somerset county, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Sarah Dietle Christner, 30 years ago. He leaves these children: Mrs. Eli Weimer, Mrs. Milton Shuck, Miss Margaret, Wilson C. and Clarence of Sand Patch, Mrs. Joseph Lint of Holsopple and Miles of Johnstown, He was a brother of Joseph of Wyoming and Mrs. Ada Wetzel of Omaha, Neb. There are 24 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Clara W. Christner, 60, of Hyndman RD 1, died Friday, Feb. 7, 1992, in Sacred Heart Hospital in Cumberland, Md. She was born Jan. 5, 1932, in Hyndman, a daughter of the late Lloyd E. and Tolva (Miller) Shaffer. She is survived by her husband, Lloyd E. Christner Jr., whom she married Aug. 25, 1954; two sons, Gary E. Christner of Hyndman RD 1 and David L. Christner, at home. Also surviving are three brothers, Vernon Shaffer, Ray Shaffer, and Arden Shaffer, all of Hyndman; four sisters, Irene Dunbar of Edenton, N.C.; Philomene Bonner, Mary Shaffer and Jean McCoy, all of Hyndman; and one grand-daughter. Mrs. Christner was a homemaker and member of Grace United Methodist Church, Hyndman. Funeral services: Monday, Feb. 10, 11 a.m., at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, with the Rev. HYNDMAN—Claude S. Christner, 64, of Pittsburgh, formerly of Hyndman, died Sunday in Southside Hospital in Pittsburgh. Born at Garrett, he was a son of the late Theodore and Minerva (Beachley) Christner. Mr. Christner was a retired employe of the B&O Railroad and was a member of the Reformed Church and the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. Surviving are his widow, Lillian (Burkett) Christner; two children, Claude S. Christner, Jr., Beaver, Pa., and Mrs. Betty Brown, Monaca, Pa.; three brothers, Myers (K. 0.) A 15-year-old Meyersdale native was killed in an auto accident yesterday morning on his way to school in Springfield, Ohio. The victim was identified as Dale Allen Christner, son of Jack and Alice (Hersh) Christner, of Springfield. The youth was a member of the junior class of Springfield High School and of Boy Scout Troop 36, Lakemore, Ohio. He was employed with May Brothers Grocery Store. Surviving besides his parents are a brother, James Christner, at home, his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Catherine Hersh, Meyersdale, and paternal grandfather, Ralph Christner, Meyersdale. The body is at the Thomas Funeral Home, Salisbury, where friends will be received after 2 p.m. tomorrow. A funeral service will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Paul H. Yoder officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul's Cemetery.

CHRISTNER, Mrs. Elnora  Weimer

Mrs. Elnora (Weimer) Christner died Thursday evening at her home near Deal, Larimer township, Somerset county, Pa., following a heart attack. Mrs. Christner was a well-known seamstress for more than 30 years and served as telephone operator for the Larimer Telephone Company many years. She was born in the same township as the unexpected death occurred. She was a daughter of Peter and Sophia (Shumaker) Weimer and was born July 17, 1863. Surviving are her husband, one brother, Calvin Weimer, who is located in the west, and a sister, Mrs. Calvin Suder of Meyersdale. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon.

MEYERSDALE - Glenn H. Christner, 64, of here, was pronounced dead on arrival Wednesday at Meyersdale Community Hospital. Born at Garrett, he was a son of Margaret (Gardner) Christner and the late Albert Christner. Lewis C. Christner, 48, Frostburg RD 2, died yesterday, at University Medical Center, Morgantown. Born Aug. 26, 1918, in Meyersdale RD 4, he was a son of Clarence and Mary (Knepp) Christner, who survive. An employee of Kelly-Springfield Tire Company, Cumberland, for 21 years, he was a veteran of World War II, and a member of White Oak Lutheran church. Lloyd E. Christner Sr., 64, Hyndman, general foreman at Kelly Springfield Tire Company's plant here and a former mayor of Hyndman, died yesterday in Memorial Hospital. Mr. Christner had retired May 31 after more than 43 years of continuous service. Starting here in fabric inspecting and testing in February 1922, he became an ammunition production foreman and a night shift supervisor during World War II when the plant was converted to shell production. Mr. Christner began his Kelly-Springfield service in 1917 with company operations in Akron, where he spent three years before interrupting his service and later rejoining the company in Cumberland. Upon the plant's return to rubber productions, Mr. Christner continued as night shift supervisor, a post he held until 1961 when he was named general foreman. Mr. Christner also served as mayor of Hyndman during the 1940's. He was a member of the Hyndman Methodist Church and Lodge 536, F&AM. Survivors include his widow, Nancy (Horner) Christner; two sons, Lloyd Christner Jr., Hyndman; and Second Lieut. William Lee Christner, serving with the Army in Seoul, Korea; two daughters, Mrs. Roy (Jeanne) Himes, Pittsfield, Mass.; and Mrs. Sarah Ann Campbell, Hyndman. Four brothers, Myer Christner, Cumberland; Charles Christner, Akron. Ohio; Clyde Christner, Pittsburgh; and Thomas Christner, Hyndman; three sisters, Mrs. Maude Murray. Garrett - Mrs. Margaret G. Christner, 86, died Jan. 31 in Meyersdale Community Hospital.  Born February 18, 1890, in Glasgow, Scotland, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Gardner. Her husband, Albert Christner, preceded her in death. She is survived by two sons, Fred "Peg" Christner and Clyde Christner, both of here; 13 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.  The body is at the Price Funeral Home, Meyersdale, where friends will be received today and tomorrow.  Services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 2 p.m. by Rev. A. J. Shearer.  Interment will be in Highland Cemetery.

HYNDMAN, Pa. — Mrs. Minerva Christner, 75, died this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Earl Murray, Akron, where she had been visiting the past three months. A daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Beachley, she had resided here all her life. Her husband, Theodore Christner, died a year ago. She was a member of Hyndman Reformed Church. Survivors include five sons, Myer W. Christner, Cumberland; Charles Christner, Akron; Clyde Christner, Pittsburgh; and Lloyd E. and Thomas W. Christner, both of Hyndman; two sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Ritchey, General City, and Mrs. Irene Madden, Hyndman; three full brothers, Albert, Ezra and Clayton Huffman, all of Somerset, and three half-sisters, Mrs. Tillie Fritz, Mrs. Jennie Mostollar and Mrs. Annie Lehman, all of Somerset. The body will arrive at the Ziegler Funeral Home tomorrow. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

MEYERSDALE, Oct. 11 - With a 38-calibre revolver clutched in her hands, the lifeless body of Miss Myrtle Christner, 18, was found Saturday morning by a niece, at the home of James E. Leckemby of Sherman street, where Miss Christner was a housekeeper. Coroner William J. Logue returned a verdict of suicide. Miss Christner apparently was in excellent spirits, Miss Gertrude Lintz told authorities. Miss Lintz, who resides in another apartment in the same building, said that Miss Christner talked to her Saturday morning after the former had completed her daily chores. The girl, who had been the housekeeper for Mr. Leckemby since the death of his wife about three months ago, fired two shots, authorities said, from an automatic revolver. One of the bullets went through the floor, but Mr. Leckemby and Miss Lintz, both of whom said they were in the building, heard no shots. The other bullet penetrated her heart. Miss Christner's niece went to her aunt's room and found the body. One of Miss Christner's brothers was puzzled on acount of two shots being fired, but following a second investigation last night by C. C. Jacob, Somerset county detective, the brother was convinced that his sister had ended her own life. No motive was assigned for the suicide. She was a daughter of Urias J. Christner and the late Savilla (Coleman) Christner, former residents of Meyersdale. Mr. Christner now resides at Finzel, Md. Mrs. Christner died several years ago in a Pittsburgh hospital. Besides the father, the following brothers and sisters survive: Mrs. Alvin Copland, Orlando R. and Bud Christner of Pittsburgh; Mrs. Samuel Wright of Salisbury; Mrs. Lloyd Forrest, Stewart, Carl and Paul Christner of Meyersdale, and Harry Christner, who resides with his father on the farm on R. F. D. Salisbury. The funeral service will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Forrest home in Sherman street. Rev. Orville A. Lorenz, pastor of the Main Street Brethren Church, of which Miss Christner was a member, will be in charge. Interment will be in Union Cemetery.

Meyersdale, Pa., Nov. 4 - Norman Christner, 76, of Broadway street, died Tuesday afternoon in Windber Hospital. A son of Samuel and Lucinda (Cook) Christner, he was born in Somerset county on Oct. 13, 1867, and had been a lifelong resident of this county. Survivors include his widow and a son, Edward Christner, Boynton, and six daughters, Mrs. Grace Lint and Mrs. Helen Younkin, Meyersdale; Mrs. Ernest Bodes, Meyersdale R.D.; Mrs. Dan C. Specht and Mrs. E. W. Weaver, Stoystown; and Mrs. Sherman Gindlesperger, Boswell. Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow with interment in Union Cemetery.

CHRISTNER, Mrs. Samantha Jane Tressler, nee Nicklow

CONFLUENCE, Dec. 3 — Mrs. Samantha Jane Christner, 84 years old, died Wednesday at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Tressler, in Turkeyfoot township with whom she made her home for many years. The daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Nicklow, she was twice married. Her first husband was George Tressler and her second John Christner. Mrs. Christner, who has been blind for over 20 years, leaves four sons, Arthur, Samuel, Walter and John, all of Garrett; 18 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Miller of Somerset and Mrs. Austin Walters and Mrs. Katherine Heinbaugh of Ursina. The funeral service was held this afternoon in charge of Rev. George Coffman. Burial was made in Ursina Cemetery.

Theodore Christner, 72, retired Baltimore & Ohio Railroad conductor and a native of Scottdale, died Tuesday morning at his home at Hyndman. A son of the late Zacharias and Madeline Hoover Christner, he was born at Scottdale March 18, 1875. He married Miss Minerva Beachley in 1894. He had been a conductor on the Capitol-Limited until his retirement two years ago. Surviving are his widow, three daughters, Mrs. Maude Murray of Akron, Ohio, Mrs. Gertrude Richey, of Central City and Mrs. Irene Madden of Hyndman; five sons, Myer K. Christner of Cumberland, Md., once a nationally known heavyweight boxer, Charles C. of Akron, Clyde of Pittsburgh and Lloyd and Thomas of Hyndman; one brother, Wilson of Pittsburgh, and one sister, Mrs. Jennie B. Burket, of Canton.

MEYERSDALE, Feb. 2 - Urias J. Christner, 77 years old, died Saturday evening at his home in Greenville township. He was born at Garrett May 4, 1865, a son of Jonas and Caroline Mankamyer Christner. A farmer in Somerset county all of his life, he was a member of the Church of the Brethren. His wife died in 1927. Surviving are six sons and three daughters: Oris, Pittsburgh; Carl, Paul and Mrs. Frieda Forest, Meyersdale; Stewart, Canonsburg; Urias, Aliquippa; Harry, with the U. S. Army in Africa; Mrs. Lulu Kapphan, Mount Washington, and Mrs. Lucy Wright, Salisbury. He was a brother of Calvin of Sand Patch, Rufus of Garrett, Jonas of Forington, Wyo., and Mrs. Ada Wetzel of Omaha, Neb. There are 18 grandchildren. The funeral service was held this afternoon at the Main Street Brethren Church in charge of Rev. Kenneth Ashman, pastor. Burial was made in Union Cemetery.

CHRISTOPHER, Mrs. Bertha Olivia Well

KEYSER — Mrs. Bertha Olivia Christopher, 88, Baltimore, died at the Masonic Nursing Home there Sunday. A native of Keyser, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin S. and Roberta (Richards) Well, and was the widow of William N. Christopher. She was a member of First Methodist Church. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Virginia Hammon, South Bend, Ind., and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted tomorrow at noon at Queens Point Cemetery. Rev. W. W. Harvey will officiate.

Freda Mae Christopher, 85, of Hudson, died Wednesday, September 22, 2010, at the home of her daughter. She was born May 6, 1925, a daughter of Martin and Martha Sypolt Goff. She was a member of Harmony Grove United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school and was Secretary and Treasurer for many years. She is survived by her son, Harold "Bill" Bussey and wife Karen, of Hazelton; her daughter, Darlene Sisler and spouse Randy, of Hudson; step-daughter, Shirley Liston and spouse Bray, of Charleston; step-son, Ronald Christopher and spouse Janet, of Richmond, VA; 14 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Wayne Christopher; two brothers, Oreo and Van Goff; two sisters, Ida Sheldon and Margret Curry; daughter, Carrolyn Kay King; and step-daughter, Edith Bishop. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, October 3, at Harmony Grove United Methodist Church in Hudson, with the Reverend Stephen Wotring officiating.

CHRYSTAL, Edward T.

Davis, W.Va., Feb. 8 - A requiem mass was held Tuesday morning in St. Philomena's Catholic church, Terra Alta, for Edward T.. Chrystal, of Davis, First World War veteran, who died last Friday night at Perry Point, Md. The Rev. John J. Hanley was celebrant and interment was in Terra Alta cemetery. Services were in charge of Blue Ridge American Legion Post No. 22 of Thomas and Davis, and of the Terra Alta Legion Post. Prentis R. Watson, Jr., of Terra Alta, was bugler. Pallbearers were Elmer Moon, Ernest[??] Casseday, E. P. Stockman, Chester Judy, and Andrew Mann and William H. Sayger[?]

Mrs. Catherine Ann Church, 39, wife of Walter L. Church Jr., died yesterday morning in Houston, Tex., after a short illness. A native of Cumberland, Mrs. Church was a daughter of Mrs. Elizabeth Barker, 811 Fayette Street, and the late George L. Barker. Surviving besides her mother and husband are three children, Lee, Robert and Ann, all at home, and an uncle and aunt; Dr. Karl P. Heintz and Mrs. Rosella Landis, both of this city.
