DIAZ, Avelino A.

Avelino A. Diaz, 92, formerly of 329 Fairview St., Luke, and most recently of Moran Manor Nursing Home, Westernport, died Saturday, October 11, 2003, at the nursing home. Born June 1, 1911, in Spain, he was the son of the late Alfredo and Josephine Diaz. His daughter, Linda Biggs (in 2000) and a sister, Mary Diaz, also preceded him in death. Mr. Diaz retired in 1976 from Westvaco Corp., having been a tour foreman in the pulp mill. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Piedmont, WV., where he held many offices of the Men's Bible Class. He was a member of the Luke Volunteer Fire Dept., and a member of Philos Lodge #91 Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Westernport. Surviving are his wife, Lottie E. (Miller) Diaz of Moran Manor Nursing Home; one daughter, Nancy Foreback of Syracuse, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Stephen C. Foreback of Crofton, Md., David A. Foreback of Bridgewater, N.J., Jennifer L. Snyder of Liverpool, N.Y., Nathaniel H. Biggs of Hacketstown, N.J., and Sarah E. Biggs of Morristown, N.J.; six great-grandchildren, Caroline R. Foreback of Crofton, Md., Grace K. DIAS, Homer Wilson

Homer Wilson Dias, 86, of 260 Washington Blvd., Apt 4, Boardman, died of cancer at 8 a.m. Sunday in Youngstown Osteopathic Hospital after a three-year illness. Mr. Dias was born Dec. 20, 1889, in Indiana County, Pa., a son of John C. and Harriet M. Dias, moving to Boardman for three years from New Springfield. He was a carpenter and was last employed as a custodian at Poland High School, retiring in 1960. He was a member of the Bethel Friends Church and Carpenters and Joiners Union. Besides his wife, the former Margaret Altimus, whom he married June 9, 1913, he leaves two sons, Homer C. of Lebanon, Pa., and Aerie E. of New Middletown; three daughters, Mrs. Ora R. Welty of New Middletown, Mrs. Alberta L. Guy of Youngstown and Miss Viola Dias at home; a brother, Millward of Indiana County; a sister, Mrs. Jean Johnson of Ridgeway, Pa.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home where friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

LUKE, Md. - Lottie Elizabeth Diaz, 92, formerly of 329 Fairview St, Luke, and most recently of Moran Manor Nursing Home, Westernport, passed away Friday, November 3, 2006, at the nursing home. Born March 8, 1914 in Bloomington, she was the daughter of the late Oliver C. and Florence Miller. Her husband, Avelino A. Diaz, a daughter, Linda Biggs, four brothers, Carl, Roy, George, and Carson Miller, and five sisters, Eva Miller, Juanita Tranum, Caroline Citarelli, Ruth Sultzer, and Mary Taccino, also preceded her in death. Mrs. Diaz was a homemaker. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Piedmont, WV, where she was involved with the Women's Society, and a member of the Aurora Derham Bible Class. She leaves behind a daughter, Nancy Foreback and husband Curtis of Clay, NY, three sisters, Susie Rhodes, Ada King, and Wanda Moorehead, all of Keyser, WV, five grandchildren, Stephen C. Foreback and wife Shelly of Little Rock, AK, David A. Foreback and wife Michele of Red Bank, NJ, Jennifer L. Snyder and husband Jim of Liverpool, NY, Nathaniel H. Biggs and wife Jennifer of Hacketstown, NJ, and Sarah E. Biggs of Stamford, CT. She is also survived by eight great grandchildren, Caroline R. Foreback, Grace K. Foreback, Elizabeth A. DIAZ, Louis Joe

LUKE, Md. - Louis Joe Diaz, 95, formerly of Luke, passed away Monday, December 13, 2010 at Allegany Health Nursing and Rehab Center, Cumberland. Born February 4, 1915 in Luke, he was the son of the late Alfredo and Josephine (Alvarez) Diaz. His wife, Helen (Clise) Diaz, two brothers, Avelino and Manuel Diaz, and two sisters, Mary Diaz and Maria Mazzone, also preceded him in death. Louis was a United States Army Air Corp Veteran of World War II, having served with a B-17 bomber ground crew, stationed in England. He retired after 44 years of service from the Westvaco Luke paper mill in 1977, as a shift engineer of #2 power center. Louis was a dedicated family man and enjoyed travel with his family as they were growing up, and with friends after his retirement. He leaves behind a brother, Joe Diaz of Luke; three sons, Kenneth Diaz and wife Karla of Edgewater, David Diaz and wife Ardis of Annapolis, and Michael Diaz and wife Joan of McCoole. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Sam Diaz and wife Jennifer of Nevada City, CA, Kendra Arroyo and husband Alex of Las Vegas, NV, Jennifer Droppleman and husband Michael of Elk Garden, WV, and Desiree and Leiana Diaz, both of McCoole. Louis also has great-grandchildren, Alex and Alena Droppleman, Gabriel Arroyo and Sebastian Diaz. The family will receive friends at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Thursday. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home chapel on Friday at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Homer Beeman officiating. Interment will be in Philos Cemetery, Westernport.

DICK, Mrs. Elizabeth Laird

Mrs Elizabeth Dick, one of Lonaconing's oldest and best known residents died at her home on Jackson St yesterday at 2:30 p.m.  Mrs Dick had been ailing for the past five years.  Bright's disease was the cause of death.  She was the widow of David Dick who died here about sixteen years ago.  Mrs Dick leaves her sons: Robert of New Haven, Conn; Joseph of Wilkinsburg, Pa; David and James of Lonaconing and daughters: Mrs Rachel(Mary C) Bowden of Wilkinsburg, Pa; Mrs C H Brown of Toledo, Ohio; Mrs James Gilchrist of Lonaconing.  Mrs Dick was born in Ayreshire, Scotland, February 16, 1838.  The funeral will take place from the Dick residence on Jackson Street on Tuesday at 2 p.m.  Interment will be made in Oak Hill.  Rev H L Earnest of the Presbyterian Church of which Mrs Dick was a member will officiate.

DICK, John C.

Lonaconing, Nov 17 - Word has been received here of the death John C Dick, 65, son of Thomas and Margaret Schuyler Dick.  Mr Dick died Sunday, November 12 at the home of his daughter, Seattle, Wash.  Mr Dick was born in Lonaconing, married the late Margaret McMurda Charleroi, Pa.  Mr Dick worked in the mines when residing here.  He left Lonaconing about 30 years ago.  Four sisters survive.  They are Mrs Felix Foote, Mrs Edward Truly, both of Lonaconing; Mrs John L Wilson and Mrs Joseph Kosh, Detroit, Mich.  Four brothers surviving are Andrew Dick and Thomas Dick, both of Lonaconing; James Dick and William Schuyler Dick, both of Warren, Ohio; one daughter and one grandson survive.  Funeral services were conducted Tuesday from the Green Funeral Home in Seattle.

Mrs. Ruth Isabelle Dick, 71, of 501 Columbia Avenue, died yesterday at Sacred Heart Hospital where she had been a patient two weeks. Born in Cumberland, she was a daughter of the late Jacob and Mary (Handle) Hausman and was the widow of John C. Dick. She was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ. Surviving are a son, John C. Dick Jr., Bowling Green; a daughter, Miss Doris Mae Dick, at home; three brothers, Henry Hausman, Columbus, Ohio; Gilbert Hausman, city, and Fred Hausman, Charlotte, N.C.; three sisters, Miss Christina Hausman, Mrs. Mabel Knight, city; and Mrs. Margaret Brookman, Potomac Park; and two grandchildren. Interment Greenmount Cemetery, on Friday.

Lonaconing, Md - April 11
Our community is much distressed over the sudden death of Thomas Dick of Rockville.  Mr Dick died at his home on Saturday evening at 10:00 o'clock after a short illness.  It is said Mr Dick took an overdose of laudanum, but his friends believe that it was not done with suicidal attempt.  Mr Dick is survived by a large family.  His wife and the following children survive: Mr John Dick of Pennsylvania; Messrs Andrew Dick, Thomas Dick, Jr; Mrs Edward Truly; Mrs Felix Foote, Jr; Misses, Jean, Isabel and Rhea and Ethel Dick and two small boys, James and Schuyler.  Mr Dick was about 68(sic) years of age.  The funeral will take place on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence in Rockville.  Interment in Oak Hill cemetery.

DICK, William Livingstone

Westernport, Md. March 19. - Mr. William Dick, an aged resident of this place, departed this life Sunday morning at his residence on Westernport Hill, aged about 76 years Mr. Dick was a hard working man and followed the occupation of a coal miner up until his death. His wife preceded him into the great beyond a few months ago. He leaves four daughters and two sons, all of whom are married, except one son and one daughter at home. The funeral will take place the his residence on Thursday afternoon with interment in philos cemetery.

FROSTBURG - Idella M. Dickel, 88, of Streetsboro, Ohio, formerly of 139 Bowery Street, died Friday, May 15, 1992 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna, Ohio. She had been an invalid for two and one-half years. Born Feb. 2, 1904 in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late Abraham and Cecelia (Hosken) Gordon. Mrs. Dickel's husband, Joseph L. Dickel, died Feb. 3, 1982. Surviving are three sons, Leo J. Dickel and William Dickel, both of Ravenna, and Donald Dickel, Laurel; three daughters, Genevieve Raley, Avilton; Betty Hutzell, Streetsboro, with whom Mrs. Dickel had resided since 1984; and Barbara Ash, Laurel; a granddaughter whom she reared, Lavina Wright, Houston, Texas; two sisters, Mary Housel, Zihlman, and Olive Bridges, Mount Savage; three brothers, William Gordon, Mount Savage; John Gordon, Frostburg; and George Gordon, Cumberland; 24 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Friends will be received Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Sowers Funeral Home. Services will be conducted there Sunday at 1:30 p.m. by the Rev. Richard Skiver. Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.

MT. SAVAGE—Joseph P. Dickel, 75, died yesterday in Sacred Heart Hospital where he had been a patient since Thursday. He had been in ill health several years. A native of Mt. Savage, he was a son of the late Nicholas and Bridget (Collins) Dickel. His wife Nora (Moran) Dickel, preceded him in death. Mr. Dickel was a retired welder for the Western Maryland Railway and was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, International Association of Machinists and Nest 90, Fraternal Order of Owls, in Cumberland. Surviving are a son, Francis Dickel, Mt. Savage; a,sister, Mrs. Mary Dunn, also of here; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. The body is at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p. m. and 7 to 9 p. m. A Requiem Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 9 a.m. in St. Patrick's Catholic Church by Rev. Michael Smyth, pastor. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers will be Alonzo O'Neal, Joseph Nolan, Harry Poland, Joseph Reagan, Willis Black and Lloyd Wade. The Rosary will be recited at the funeral home tomorrow at 7 p.m.

DEATH OF MRS DICKEL~Former Resident of Mt Savage Died in This City Yesterday
After being ill five days, Mrs Mary Elizabeth Dickel, 78, widow of Michael Dickel, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs James Metz, 72 Decatur St, this city, early yesterday morning. The surviving children besides Mrs Metz are: Mrs Samuel Jenkins, Mrs Simon Sturtz, Charles Dickel and Nicholas Dickel, Mt Savage and Mrs John Becker of Cumberland. She is also survived by 35 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Mrs Dickel came from Germany when she was 20 years of age and she was a resident of Mt Savage 52 years. The body will taken to Mt Savage and the funeral will occur tomorrow from St Patrick's Catholic church.

DICKEL, Mrs. Mary Collins

Mrs. Mary Dickle[sic, Dickel] wife of Charles Dickle[sic, Dickel] died Thursday night at 10:40 o'clock at her home following an illness of heart trouble and dropsy. Mrs. Dickie was aged 51 years. She was the mother of 17 children, 13 living and four died in infancy. She is a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Collins. The surviving children are William, Joseph. Ralph, Philip, Paul, Eugene, Milner, Mrs. Guy Martin, Mrs. Milner Frankenberry, Mrs. Anna Johnson, and Mrs. Margaret Cassady all of Mt. Savage. Thirteen grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Earl Purbaugh, Mt. Savage and Mrs. Joseph Inks, Frostburg, Md., are half sisters. The funeral will take place Monday morning at 9 o'clock with a high mass of requiem at St. Patrick's Catholic church. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery.

DICKEL, Nicholas

Mt. Savage. Md- May 7.
Nicholas Dickie[sic], aged 18 years, son Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dickie[sic] died yesterday morning at 10 o'clock at his home, about three quarters of a mile about(sic) Mt. Savage, from blood poisoning and lockjaw. The young man burned his finger with powder from a toy gun on last Sunday and the injury was so slight he paid no attention whatever to it and he attended motion picture theatre Friday night and was taken ill while at the show, blood poison and lockjaw developed and he died the following day. Mr Dickie is one of a family of fifteen children and is the second eldest son. Until just few months ago he attended St. Patrick's school. He is brother to Charles Dickie who was kilied a few years ago on the Western Maryland Railroad. The funeral, will probably be held Tuesday morning at 8:30 o'clock with a requiem mass at St. Patrick's Church.

FROSTBURG—Nicholas Francis Dickel, 85, died early today at the home'of his son, Joseph Dlckel, Mt. Savage, after an illness of three weeks. A retired Cumberland and Pennsylvania Railroad shop worker, Mr Dickel was a member of St: Patrick's Catholic Church, and the Holy Name Society. He lived in Mt, Savage all his life. Besides his son, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Mary G.Dunn, Mt: Savage. A requiem mass will be celebrated Saturday at 9 a. m. in St. Patrick's Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Savage, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Mary (Collins) Dickel. He was a former employe of the Brotemarkle Construction Company. Surviving are his widow Nancy (Dillion) Dickel; a son Elmer L. Dickel, at home; five brothers, Milner, William and Ralph, all Mt. Savage; Joseph, Frostburg, and Paul, Akron, Ohio, and three sisters, Mrs. Anna Winebrenner and Mrs. Ester Martin, both of Mt. Savage, and Mrs. Margaret Regor, Hagerstown. The body is at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, where friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. and tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday by Rev. John Mackay at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Mt. Savage. A Christian burial prayer will be conducted Tuesday at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

WILLARD DICKEL, HIT BY AUTOMOBILE, DIES ~
Mt. Savage Man Found Dying On Road Near Great Cacapon Early Yesterday. Willard Dickel, 27 years old, Mt. Savage, who was struck by an automobile on the road between Great Cacapon and Paw Paw, W.Va., early yesterday morning, died several hours later in the City Hospital at Martinsburg.  Dickel's skull, his arm, shoulder and leg were fractured and his back broken.  West Virginia state police are investigating the accident. State Trooper Doddril reported the car that hit Dickel was operated by Ernest Compton, 17, of Great Cacapon, who was driving a car accompanied by two girls. The machine did not stop. Charles Fallow, following in another car, found Dickel lying in the roadway about 1:30 in the morning. He took the injured man to a physician at Great Cacapon who sent him to the Martinsburg hospital. Dickel umpired a baseball game Monday at Great Cacapon where a Mt. Savage team played the Great Cacapon nine. After the game he was a guest of a member of the home team at supper. Dickel was employed in the brick works at Mt. Savage. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Nellie Dickel; his widow, who was Miss Mary Winebrenner, of Mt. Savage; two brothers, Paul, of Corrigansville, and Albert, of Canton, O., and a sister, Mrs. Pearl Bartlett, also of Canton.

Homer P. Dicken, 65, of Edgewater, Fla., formerly of Buckeystown, died Monday in Central Florida Regional Hospital, Sanford, Fla. Born in Cumberland on April 24, 1921, he was the son of the late Presley and Lillian O. (Hite) Dicken. Mr. Dicken was a Navy veteran of World War II and retired mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service at Dickerson. He was a member of American Legion Post 285, Edgewater, and St. Mark's United Church of Christ, Cumberland. Surviving are his widow, Betty J. (Hager) Dicken, and two sisters, Mrs. Ruth L. Hite, Cumberland, and Mrs. Olive L. Johns, Honolulu, Hawaii. Friends will be received in the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, Pa., Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held there Saturday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Harold Shaffer. Interment will be in Lybarger Cemetery, Madley, Pa.

Mrs. Lillian 0. Dicken, 79, of RD 1, Bowman's Addition, died Tuesday at Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient 10 days. Born here, she was a daughter of the late Ralph M. and Minta (Brant) Kite. She was a member of St. Mark's United Church of Christ. Surviving are her husband, Presley Dicken; two sons, Homer P. Dicken, Buckeystown, and Donald M. Dicken, city; two daughters, Mrs. Ruth L. Hite, Bedford Road, and Mrs. Lillian 0. Johns, Hyattsville; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. While feeding stock Mon afternoon near his home four miles from Franklin WV, Dr J. A. Dickenson dropped dead. The cause of his sudden death is not known. Dr. Dickenson was a veterinary surgeon, who was very proficient in his art. He was well known here.

DICKERSON, Mrs. Eva Margaret (abridged)

Eva Margaret Dickerson, 72, a retired real estate agent, died of cancer on January 7, 2003. Mrs. Dickerson was a native of Lonaconing, near Cumberland in Western Maryland, and a resident of Greenbelt since 1955. Shortly after marrying, Mrs. Dickerson accompanied her husband to London, England, where she attended Wembley College and worked with the Statistical Office of the Seventh Air Division. After returning to America, she worked in the Budget Office of the Soil Conservation Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C. She later left to stay home to raise her son, and later returned to the workforce as a real estate agent with Long & Foster, College Park, Md., and delighted in finding first homes for young couples. She enjoyed people as evidenced by the numerous friends and family that attended the Dickerson's 50th wedding anniversary party in 2001. Until her health prevented her from doing so, she was an active member of the D.C. Organ Society and the Silver Spring Organ Club. Surviving are her devoted husband, Paul; one son, Bill; and a sister, Betty Boettcher Johnson, of Lonaconing, Md. The family will receive friends on Sunday, Jan. 12, from 2-4 p.m. at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., in Lonaconing. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 15, at the funeral home. Interment will take place in Philos Cemetery, Westernport, Md.

Meyersdale, Pa., Aug. 4 - Mrs. Alice G. Dickey, 57, wife of William H. Dickey of Berlin, died Saturday night in the Hazel McGilvery Hospital, where she underwent a major operation last week. Mrs. Dickey was a daughter of Irvin and Emma (Walker) Suder and was born on November 10, 1884. Surviving are her husband, a son Clyde Dickey of Berlin, and two sisters and a brother, Mrs. Emma Flamm, Mrs. Mary Hillegass, and John Dickey, all of Berlin, RD. Funeral services were conducted this afternoon at the Dickey home by Rev. John M. Bethune, pastor of the Trinity Reformed Church. Burial was in Berlin IOOF cemetery.

J. Ralph Dickey, 55, of Somerset, died Nov. 4, 1977, at Somerset Community Hospital. Born March 5, 1922 in Meyersdale, he was the son of the late Joel W. and Genevieve (Lancaster) Dickey. He is survived by his widow, the former Loretta Catherine Barry, and these children: John Ralph Dickey Jr., Binghamton, N.Y.; Mrs. Peter (Patricia) Ting, Alexandria. DIEHL, Mrs. Agnes Patterson (abridged)

DALLAS, Texas -  Agnes Patterson Diehl, 75, of Dallas, formerly of Cumberland and LaVale, died Wednesday, July 3, 2002, at her home in Dallas.  She was born in Cumberland, Md., July 31, 1926 and was the daughter of Charles E. and Flora G. Patterson.  Agnes graduated from Fort Hill High School in 1946. She married Darrell D. Diehl in October 1946 and they spent most of their married life in LaVale, Md., only moving to Dallas with the last year.  Agnes was an active member of the LaVale United Methodist Church for 42 years. She served on the Pastor Parish Relations Committee and Evangelism Committee. She was the past president, as well as the past treasurer of the United Methodist Womens Society and former chairman of their annual Christmas Bazaar. She and her husband, Darrell, square danced with the Allegany Promenaders and the Belles and Bows for many years.  Agnes leaves her husband of 55 years, Darrell; her brother, Charles L. Patterson of Hamilton, Mont.; her sister, Eleanor Patterson Kastner of Short Gap, W.Va.; three children, Sandy Diehl Alderson of Carrollton, Texas, David Diehl of St. Clair Shores, Mich., and Cara Lynn Diehl of Romney, W.Va. She has six grandchildren, two step grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and two step great-grandchildren. Friends and family will be received in the parlor of the LaVale United Methodist Church on Wednesday, July 10, 2002, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.  Funeral services will be conducted at the church Thursday, July 11, 2002, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Bernadette Ross officiating. Following, there will be a luncheon served by the Womens Society of the church.  Graveside services will be for family and relatives at Sunset Memorial Park, following the luncheon.  Memorial may be made to the LaVale United Methodist Church Building Fund in lieu of flowers.

CORRIGANVILLE—C. Bruce Diehl, of here, died last night in Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient six weeks. A native of Ellerslie, he was born January 6, 1904, a son of Mrs. Jennie (Smith) Diehl, Ellerslie, and the late Charles E. Diehl. Mr. Diehl was employed as an electrician by the Queen City Electric Company and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electricians. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ of Corriganville, Ohr Lodge 131, AF&AM, the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Scottish Rites, Cumberland Consistory, Cumberland Chapter, Order of Eastern Star: Ali Ghan Shrine and POS of A of Ellerslie. Bom April 7, 1906 at Hyndman, she was a daughter of the late Winfield Scott Shaffer and Clara (Miller) Shaffer. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dwight H. Diehl, who died April 3, 1983; three brothers, Albert, Leroy and Ed Shaffer; and a sister, Cleo Kennedy. Mrs. Diehl was a member of the Fairhope Community Church and the Hyndman Senior Citizens. Surviving are three sons, D. Therne Diehl and wife Clara, RD 1, Buffalo Mills; Maynard D. Diehl and wife Mert, RD 1, Buffalo Mills; and Kenneth H. Diehl and wife Judy, Seattle, Wash.; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. DIEHL, Erastus

A heart attack felled an elderly Everett Star Route farmer Saturday afternoon as he worked in fields at his farm. Erastus Diehl, 74, a bachelor and long-time farmer, died about 4 p.m. on his farm, authorities said, after an apparent heart attack. Mr. Diehl had been a lifelong farmer and had not curtailed his activities despite his advancing age. It could not be determined immediately if the fatal attack was his first or if he had a previous history of heart disease. Mr. Diehl was born in Monroe Township, November 5, 1880, a son of Henry and Nancy Jane (Pennell) Diehl, both deceased. He never married. Surviving is one brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Orbial Diehl, Everett Star Route, and one nephew. Mr. Diehl attended services at Black Valley Christian Church. Funeral services Tuesday, July 15 at 11 a.m. at the Bethel (Frame) Reformed Church at Clearville, Rev. Walter Twigg officiating.

Henry Diehl died last Thursday at his home at Black Valley, about four miles north of Chaneyville, aged 61 years. His funeral took place at Frame Church Saturday morning. He was a member of the Lutheran church. He leaves four grown children.

John R. Diehl died at Friend's Cove on August 19th., death being caused by complication of diseases. He was born at Friend's Cove the son of David Diehl and Eva Ann Diehl, both deceased. He was married to Miss Hannah Miller, now deceased. He is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Carl Fisher and Mrs. Wm. Shaffer both of Rainsburg. He is also survived by one brother, W. Grant Diehl of Friend's Cove and one sister, Mrs. Frederick Smith of Bedford Valley. He was a member of the Friend's Cove Reformed Church and a member of the Odd Fellows. The funeral will take place today at 2:00 p m at the Friend's Cove R e f o r m e d Church. Interment will be made in the Cove cemetery.

CORRIGANVILLE - Martha Elizabeth "Mart" Diehl, 98, of Kreigbaum Road, Corriganville, died on Monday, July 29, 2002, at her home.  Born Jan. 17, 1904, in Corriganville, she was a daughter of the late George Henry and Elizabeth (Lapp) Myers. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was also preceded in death by four brothers; and three sisters; and, on Oct. 31, 1968, by Charles Bruce Diehl, her husband of 41 years, whom she married July 31, 1927.  Mrs. Diehl was a homemaker, a former U.S. Post Office postal clerk, and a former school teacher. She was a graduate of Frostburg Normal School.  She was a member of St. Johns United Church of Christ, Corriganville, where she was a former member of the church Consistory and the Ladies Aid Society.  She was past Matron of Cumberland Chapter 56, Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Ladies Shrine and a member of the Past Matrons Club. Surviving are a nephew, John O. Wolfe and wife Harriet, Corriganville, a niece, Jane Blaine, Florida; great nieces and nephews, Susan Boyd and husband Mike, Parkersburg, W.Va., Dr. John O. Wolfe II, and wife Susan, Corriganville, Dr. Joe Wolfe and wife Janice, McConnellsburg, Pa., James Blaine and Don Myers.  Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, 169 Clarence St., Hyndman, Pa., on Thursday, Aug. 1, from 7 to 9 p.m.  Funeral services will be conducted at St. Johns United Church of Christ, Kreigbaum Road, Corriganville, on Friday, Aug. 2, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Steven L. Craft officiating.  Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Cumberland.

Martin Albert (Al) Diehl, a former resident, died Tuesday in Martinsburg, W. Va. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Coozy (Elbin) Diehl. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Sally (Willison) Diehl; one son, Mason T. Diehl, Midlothian; a brother, Perry G. Diehl, this city; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Services and interment will be in Martinsburg, Friday at 10 a.m.

April 1 - Mrs. Mary Elsie Diehl, 57, wife of Russell C. Diehl, 120 Frost Avenue, died last night in Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, where she underwent an operation several weeks ago.  She was admitted to the institution March 13. Mrs. Diehl belonged to Salem Evangelical and Reformed Church, the Ladies Auxillary of the congregation and the Frostburg Homemakers Club. In addition to her husband, she leaves her mother, Mrs. Anna Louise Layman, Frostburg; a daughter, Mrs. Robert Wilson, Cumberland; two sons, Harvey and Robert Diehl, both of Baltimore; five sisters, Mrs. Nellie Burns, Mrs. Annie Neat and Mrs. Ada Koelker, Cumberland; Mrs. Oma Wolfe, Hagerstown, and Mrs. Ruth Davis, Frostburg; five brothers, Ernest and George Layman, Borden Shaft; Robert Layman, Detroit: Benjamin Layman, Syracuse, and Lawrence Layman, Alexandria, Va., and four grandchildren.

DIEHL, Perry Gilbert

Perry Gilbert Diehl, 91, formerly of Elm Street, died yesterday at Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home, where he had been a patient since March 1, 1973. Born in Bedford County, Pa., he was a son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Silas Diehl.  He was a retired B&O Railroad car inspector, and was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. Several nieces and nephews survive, including Mason Diehl of Midlothian. The body is at the John O. Durst Funeral Home, where friends will be received tomorrow from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9 p.m. A service will be conducted there Friday at 11 a.m. with Dr. Lawrence Sherwood officiating. MEYERSDALE, Pa. - Mrs. Sarah E. Diehl, of Baltimore, formerly of Meyersdale, died yesterday in Baltimore. Born in Meyersdale, she was a daughter of the late Francis and Sarah England and was the widow of Cornelius A. Diehl. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Valeria D. Baer and Mrs. Arlene D. Mills, both of Baltimore; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The body is at the Price Funeral Home. Services will be conducted there Wednesday at 1 p.m. by Rev. John S. Royer. "George Charles Dieling, 63, of Barton died Sunday in the Frostburg Village Nursing Home. Born in Monogah, he was the son of the late George V. and Mary (Morgan) Dieling. Mr. Dieling was a general mechanic in the maintenance department of Westvaco Corporation. He was a member of St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Piedmont Council 685 and Luke Local 676, UPIU. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Ann Broadwater, Glen Burnie, Md. and several nieces and nephews. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Gabriel's Church Wednesday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Westernport. A Christian Wake service will be held in the funeral home Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. The family requests memorials take the form of contributions to the Arthritis Foundation, 400 Cumberland St., Cumberland, MD 21502."

"Mrs. Mary Katherine Dieling, 77, of Keyser, a native of Westernport died Friday 11 May 1962 in the Ours Nursing Home, Keyser, where she had been a patient one month. Requiem High Mass was celebrated Monday in St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, Barton, after which interment took place in St. Ann's Cemetery, Avilton, Md. The Rev. George J. Pugh was celebrant of the mass. Pallbearers were Joseph Howell, Charles Howell, Thomas Collins, James O'Rourke, Ronald Bailey and Joseph Dick. A daughter of the late Charles and Bridget (Moran) Morgan, Mrs. Dieling was the wife of George W. Dieling. Mrs. Dieling was a member of St. Gabriel's Catholic Church and the Arch Confraternity of Christian Mothers at Avilton. Mrs. Dieling is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Clement Logsdon, of Barton and Mrs. Anne Broadwater, Glen Burnie, Md.; a son, George Dieling, at home; two sisters, Mrs. J. W. Byer and Mrs. J. R. SALISBURG, Pa. — John M. Dietle, 58, husband of Mrs. Bertha (Steinly) Dietle, Route 1, died Friday in Upper Turkey Foot Township. Mr. Dietle was born April 21, 1892, in Somerset county, a son of the late Adam and Susan (Werner) Dietle. A sawmill worker, he retired from farming about eight years ago. Surviving, besides his widow, are two children, Karl Dietle, RD, Sand Patch, and Mrs. Dorothy Shockey, Morristown, N. J.; two brothers, Irvin Dietle, Sand Patch, and Simon Dietle, Meyersdale; two sisters, Mrs. Sadie Steinley, Route 3, Meyersdale, and Mrs. Clara Geiger, Sand Patch, and six grandchildren. Born Sept. 28, 1925, in The Cove, Md., she was the daughter of the late John and Samantha (Wright) Hetrick. Mrs. Dietle was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church (ELCA). She retired as a trimmer from the Flushing Shirt Factory in Grantsville. Surviving are her husband, Robert Dietle; one daughter, Linda Hoover, Grantsville; one brother, Bruce Hetrick, Frostburg; and one sister, Rosalie Bowser, Accident. MEYERSDALE, Jan. 5.—The funeral service for William Dietle, 83, retired farmer of Greenville township who died Tuesday at a Meyersdale hospital, was held this morning at the Greenville Lutheran Church near here in charge of Rev. S. D. Sigler. Interment was in the church cemetery. Mr. Dietle was born July 14, 1856, a son of the late John and Margaret Ritter Dietle. His wife died two years ago. Surviving children are Frank and Ephraim of Meyersdale, R. D., William and Harvey of Grantsville, Md., Mrs. Marshall Arnold of Meyersdale, Mrs. George Meyers of Somerset and Mrs. Reid Meese of Salisbury.

Richard Dietz, 29, of Hyndman, died last night of a gunshot wound in the chest shortly after being admitted to Sacred Heart Hospital. The incident occurred at the victim's home and apparently happened while Mr. Dietz was cleaning a shotgun, according to Pennsylvania State Police at Bedford. Mr. Dietz was taken to the hospital at 8 p.m. A son of Harvey Stanford and Jean Lois (Merkel) Dietz of Hyndman, he was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War having served from 1968 to 1970. Surviving, in addition to his parents, are four sisters, Mrs. Rita Hughes, Mrs. Pamela Logsdon, Tammy Dietz and Beverly Dietz, all of Hyndman; four brothers, Ronald Dietz, Chester, Pa.; Gerald Dietz, Hyndman; William Dietz, RD 1, Hyndman, and Barry Dietz, at home. Friends will be received at the Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman. Services will be conducted in the funeral home al 2p.m. Thursday by the Rev. James Ryan. Interment will be in Hyndman Cemetery. Adam W. Dilfer, 82 years old, former dairyman, died last night at his home, Holland street extended.  He was a son of the late John and Sophia Dilfer. His wife died several years ago. Mr. Dilfer is survived by the following children: Carl, Philadelphia, Pa.; George, Hagerstown; Walter at home; Mrs. Charles Roth, and Mrs. Marshall Lambert, Baltimore; Mrs. Alvin E. Anthony, Fort Clark, Texas and Mrs. Charles Troxell, Richmond, Va. He also leaves a sister; Mrs. Jacob Metz; this city. Mr. Dilfer was a native of Lonaconing and a son of Ferdinand and Mary Ann Hanekamp Dilfer. For 25 years he operated a meat market in Midland. He retired one year ago. LONACONING - Mrs. Hattie Mae Dilfer, 83, of here, died this morning at the Allegany County infirmary in Cumberland. She was a native of Pekin and the widow of Frank F. Dilfer. Survivors include a son, William H. Dilfer, Midland; three daughters, Mrs. Helen Craze, Cumberland; Mrs. Alice Fritzwater, Oakland; and Mrs. Minnie Herbert, Westernport; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. John Henry Dilfer, 75, a native of Lonaconing, died Saturday in Canton, Ohio. He was a son of the late Frederick and Mary Ann (Hanekamp) Dilfer. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Wilbur Lancaster, Lonaconing, and Mrs. William Pullin, of this city; a sister, Miss Emma Dilfer, also of Lonaconing; a brother, Ferdinand, Lonaconing, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Services will be conducted in the Celebenger Funeral Home, Canton, with interment in that city.

A Cumberland serviceman who returned home last Monday after receiving his discharge from the Army Air Forces took his life yesterday morning at his home. He was John Walter Dilfer, Jr., 24, of 820 Piedmont avenue, who was found hanging from the head post of his bed between noon and 12:30 yesterday by his mother who went to his room to call him for lunch. The young man had attended a dance Friday night with his sister and they returned home about 2 a. m. Dilfer was heard humming a song in his room by the sister, according to friends of the family. It was also reported to police that he had not appeared despondent and he left no note giving a reason for taking his life. When the mother went to his room he was slumped in his bed with the cord from his bath robe knotted around his neck and tied to the bed post. Death was due to strangulation, and Dr. Linne H. Gorson, deputy county medical examiner, gave a verdict of suicide after viewing the body. Mrs. Dilfer was in a state of collapse when Sgt. Raymond Johnston, of the city police arrived at the home in answer to a call to headquarters. Later, County Investigator Terrence J. Boyle and Detective Lieut. B. Frank Gaffney went to the home. The dead man was a graduate of Allegany High School and served more than three years in the Army. Dr. Gorson placed the time of death at about 5 a. m. yesterday. Besides his parents he is survived by a sister, Miss Greta Dilfer, a registered nurse. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p. m. at Stein's chapel with the Rev. Dr. H. Hall Sharp, pastor of St. Luke's Lutheran church, officiating, interment will be in the church cemetery.

LONACONING - Services for Mrs. Mary Dilfer, 67, Front Street, who died Monday at Miners' Hospital, Frostburg, where she was a patient two days, will be conducted tomorrow at 2 p. m. at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Wilbur Lancaster, Allegany Street. The Rev. John E. Stack, pastor of the Methodist church will officiate and interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park. A native of Lonaconing, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Nicol. She was a Methodist and a member of ths Pride of Lonaconing Council, No. 96, Daughters of America. Surviving are her husband, John Dilfer, Canton, Ohio; two daughters, Mrs. Leona Pulin, Cumberland, and Mrs. Lancaster; a son, Ferdinand Dilfer, Lonaconing; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mrs Sophia E. Dilfer, aged 87 years, died this morning at 5 o'clock at the residence of her son, Adam Dilfer, who lives in the northern section of the city. The deceased is survived by the following children; Fred Dilfer, of Lonaconing, Mrs John Metz and Adam    Dilfer; of this city, also seventeen   grandchildren and eight great-grand-children.  The funeral will take place Sunday afternoon from the Bedford Street Lutheran Church a 3:15, Rev Braren will conduct the services.  Internment will be made in the cemetery connected with the church. The following will act as pallbearers; Messrs. J.H. Holzshu, Jean Schiller, Crist Roeder, H.U.F Flurshutz, Wm. Flurshutz and H.A. Bachman.

Midland - William H. Dilfer, 64, died yesterday at Miners' Hospital, Frostburg. A native of Lonaconing, he was a son the late Frank and Hattie (Miller) Dilfer. He was a member of the Junior order United American Mechanics. Surviving are his widow, Mary (Byrne) Dilfer; three sisters, Mrs. William Craze, Keyser, Mrs. Len Herbert, Westernport and Mrs John Fitzwater, Mt Lake Park. The body is at the Eichhorn Funeral Home in Lonaconing where friends will be received today from 7 until 9 p.m. and tomorrow from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9 p.m.

The funeral of the late Barney Dilley took place at 4 o'clock this afternoon from the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Charles H. Brace, Bedford street. Rev. James Kemp Keech, rector of Holy Cross church, read the office for the dead. A quartet composed of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas H. Thomas, Mrs. E. St. George Lough and Mr. John E. Edwards rendered appropriate hymns. The pallbearers were Shannon Brant, Henry Mattingley, ex-Gov. Lloyd Lowndes, Dr. John F. Zacharias, Benj. A. Richmond and ex-Judge Phillip A. Bier. The interment in Rose Hill cemetery was private.

DILLEY, Bernard D.

Bernard D. Dilley, 70, Broadway, Frostburg, died at 11:30 a.m., today at Memorial Hospital, where he was a patient two weeks. He retired last November after a half century as station and express agent for the Western Maryland Railway Co., Frostburg.  Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Agnes (Kirby) Dilley, Frostburg; four children, John this city; Francis, at home; Mrs. Charles Arnold, Taneytown and Mrs. Ralph Bender, Frostburg, and several sisters and brothers. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg.  Among those who attended the funeral of Bernard D. Dilley were Mrs. Herbert McDonald, Edward Dillon, Aloysius Kirby, George Salb, Leo Kirby, Washington, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Arnold and family Taneytown.

Frostburg, Dec. 22 — Funeral services for Mrs. Genevieve Dilley, 46, wife of John A. Dilley, 6 Standish street, who died Thursday, were held Saturday morning at St. Michael's Catholic Church. Rev. Dominic A. Bonomo, assistant pastor, celebrant of Requiem High Mass, preached the funeral sermon. Rev. Patrick J. Bradley, pastor, and Rev. Francis E. Montgomery, assistant, were in the sanctuary. The pallbearers were Harry Hanson, Sr:, Carl Nickel, John Manley, Giles Maurey, Adelbert Fraser, and Lawrence Feldman. Interment was in the parish cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Frank O'Rourke, Philadelphia; Mrs. John Dilley, Jr., Boston, Mass., and Miss Ann McIntyre and John Hackett, Philadelphia, were here for the services.

John Bernard "Bud" Dilley, 75, of 3503 Barclay Street, Baltimore, a native of Vale Summit, died at his home January 23. He was the son of the late Bernard D. and Agnes (Kirby) Dilley. She was born May 21, 1901, in Oakland, Md., a daughter of Ellis Rizer Shrout and Ruhama Nare[sic, Nair] Shrout. She is survived by a sister, Edna Roberts of Centerville; a son, Lewis Dillinger of Franklin; a daughter, Lois Cooper of Elmira, N.Y.; seven grandchildren and nine greatgrandchildren. Mrs. Agnes Dillon, wife of Mr. Wm. C. Dillon, supervisor of trains of the C. & P. R. R. Co. died at the family residence on Park street at 8:10 o'clock this morning in the 39th year of her age. She was a native of Frostburg, to which the remains will be taken for interment Wednesday morning. Besides a distressed husband Mrs. Dillon leaves a family of six children and seven brothers and sisters to mourn her loss. She was a devoted wife, tender mother and a lovely woman in all the walks of life. For several years she had been a sufferer from a complication of deseases, but bore her affliction with with unwonted courage and endurance. Being a member in full communion with the Catholic church services will take place over the remains in St. Michael's church, Frostburg.

A Large Congregation of Friends Followed the Cortege to the Grave.
The funeral of Mrs. W. E. Dillon took place this morning from the late home of the deceased on Park street. The body was conveyed to the Queen City depot at 9:30 o'clock and taken to Frostburg, the former home of the deceased on the C. & P. train. At Frostburg the funeral procession moved to St. Michael's Catholic church, where a high mass of requiem was sung. An immense congregation of former neighbors and friends of this good woman from Frostburg and Cumberland crowded the church during the services. The burial took place in the Catholic cemetery at Frostburg. Eight young men, all nephews of the deceased, were pallbearers. They were: Frederick Dillon, Wm. Moody, John Stapleton, Jos. McMahon, John Thompson, Frank Broderick, P. F. McMahon, and Charles Broderick. Mrs. Dillon was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Thompson, of Eckhart, where she spent her early life. Mr. Roy L. McCardel, of the editorial staff of the New York World, who was a lifelong friend of Mrs. Dillon and her family, attended the funeral, as did also Mrs. McCardell and their friend, Mr. Gene Carr, also of the New York World staff.

DISHONG, Alfred Leroy
 
FROSTBURG — Alfred Leroy Dishong, 79, of 159 Frost Avenue was found dead of a gunshot wound of the head yesterday afternoon at his home. Police said the victim was discovered sitting in a chair in the living room of his home by his brother-in-law, Walter E. Spiker, who resided with him. He had been shot in the forehead with a .22 caliber rifle. Assistant Chief Leslie Bevans and Patrolman Jack Starkey of Frostburg City Police investigated. The deputy medical examiner's office said death was the result of a self-inflicted gun wound. Mr. Dishong was born in Johnstown, Pa., a son of the late John Charles and Martha (Orner) Dishong and moved to Frostburg at an early age. He retired from Kelly-Springfield Tire Company 15 years ago. A veteran of World War I, he was a former member of the John R. Fairgrieve VFW Post and of United Brethren Church. He is survived by his wife, Helen Cora (Spiker) Dishong; four brothers, Charles and William Dishong, Latrobe, Pa.; Samuel Dishong, Hyndman, and Herman Dishong, Frostburg; five sisters, Mrs. Mary Wampler, Frostburg; Mrs. Goldie Walker, Meyersdale; Mrs. Nellie Shoemaker, Boynton, Pa.; Mrs. Sylvia Shoemaker, Stoystown, Pa., and Mrs. Marie Carbaugh, Salisbury, Pa., and one granddaughter, Patricia D. FROSTBURG - Herman R. Dishong, 84, of 8 Howard Street, died Sunday in the hospice unit at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland. He was born in Avilton, March 5, 1902, son of the late John C. and Elizabeth (Orner) Dishong. Mr. Dishong was retired from the Frostburg Street Department. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and St. Joseph's Holy Name Society, and was a life member of the Midland Sportsmen's Club. His wife, Laura E. (Walker) Dishong, died Feb. 16, 1981. Survivors include one son, Robert C. Dishong, Short Gap, W.Va.; two daughters, Mrs. Shirley Gracie, here, and Mrs. JoAnn Hanson, Fort Ashby, W.Va.; one brother, Samuel F. Dishong, Hyndman, Pa.; three sisters, Mrs. Goldie Walker, Zihlman; Mrs. Sylvia May, Elizabethtown, Pa., and Mrs. Marie Carbaugh, Thurmont; three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian wake service will be held there Tuesday at 8 p.m. The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to the Sacred Heart Hospital hospice unit.

Dr. P. S. Keim, went to Davis last Monday evening taking with him the three year old boy of Geo. Dishong, who was suffering with a serious affection of the head. The child was taken to the hospital for an operation but died before the physicians began. Mrs. Dishong accompanied them.

ELK GARDEN NEWS - John Wesley, son of George and Sarah Dishong, died at Davis WV, Feb 14, 1911 aged 3 years, 3 months and 15 days. The little boy had been taken to Davis for an operation for some affective of the head, but died before the operation was begun. The funeral was preached by Rev Geo. W Yost in the Nethkin Hill church where the interment was made. The sorrowing parents wish to thank their many friends for their kindness during the sickness and death of their son.

WESTERNPORT - Pansy E. DiUbaldo, 82, of Division St., Westernport, died at her residence on Saturday Nov. 3, 2007. She was born in Westernport on Jan. 3, 1925, and was the daughter of the late David C. Ritchie and Bessie (Foltz) Ritchie. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Arone "Ronnie" DiUbaldo, who died on Aug. 27, 2005. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Wayne, Dolan and Shelby Ritchie and one sister, Edith Ritchie. She was a graduate of Bruce High School, Class of 1943. She was a member of Saint Peter's Catholic Church in Westernport and was, in the past, an active member of the PTA, parish dinner and school luncheons. She was a member of Court Santa Marie 485 Catholic Daughters of America. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Pansy is survived by three sons, John and Daniel DiUbaldo, of Westernport, and Andrew and his wife Rhonda, of Cumberland; four daughters, Angela Smith and her husband Curt, of Piedmont, W.Va., Phyllis DiUbaldo, of Westernport, Christa DiUbaldo and partner Jim Haupt, of Cumberland, and Mary Kay DiUbaldo and husband Wayne Marks, of Timonium. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Ronald McCoole, Julie and Matthew Smith, Kelli Wolford, Devin DiUbaldo, Nina and Lucy Marks and two great-grandchildren, Jared and Kaden Wolford. She is also survived by one sister, Phyllis Lewis, of Westernport, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Fredlock Funeral Home in Piedmont, W.Va., on Tuesday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Peter's Catholic Church, Westernport. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Joseph M. Divelbliss, 74, Hyndman, Pa., retired Baltimore and Ohio Railroad trackman, died Saturday. He was a son of the late John and Margaret (Mellott) Divelbliss and was a native of Buck Valley, Pa. He was a member of the Hyndman Evangelical Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Cassie Belle (Deneen) Divelbliss; five duughters Mrs. Leoda Shaffer, Mrs. Cora Evans, and Mrs. Helen Harris, Hyndman, Mrs. Anna Klein, Canton, Ohio, and Mrs. Goldie Smith, Cumberland; a son, John Divelbliss, Hyndman; and five brothers, Howard and Eliott Divelbliss, Hyndman; William Divelbliss, Walfersburg, Pa.; Charles Divelbliss, Hancock, Md., and Isaac Divelbliss, Chambersburg, Pa.

MEYERSDALE, Dec. 20 — Mrs. Alice Hostetler Dively, 69 years old, wife of Henry A. Dively of Allegheny township, died Saturday in Hazel McGilvery Hospital of embolism that developed after an operation two weeks ago. A daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Hostetler, she was a native of Allegheny township where she spent her entire life. She leaves her husband and the following children: Mrs. W. H. Dayton of Smithfield, Mrs. John Beal, Lloyd Dively and Mrs. Frank Lane of Berlin, Mrs. Merle Landis of Stonycreek township and Mrs. Reon Darr, Elmer Dively and Pearl Dively at home. She was a sister of Mrs. Allen Brick of Berlin, R. D., Mrs. Lizzie Gindlesperger of Meyersdale and Herman Hostetler, Milton Hostetler and John Hostetler, all of Berlin. There are also 13 grandchildren. The funeral service was held Monday afternoon with Rev. Harold Ashe and Rev. N. B. Wilson officiating. Interment was in Berlin I. O. O. F. cemetery.

Elmer S. Dively, 50, Buffalo Mills, Pa., died yesterday afternoon in Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient since October 15. His parents were the late Henry and Alice (Hochstettler) Dively. The body is at the Johnson Funeral Home, Berlin, Pa.

MEYERSDALE, Pa. — John W. Dively Sr., 76, of Meyersdale RD 3, died yesterday. Born September 10, 1895 in Berlin, Pa., he was the son of the late Albert and Agnes (Philson) Dively. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the Loyal Order of Moose and DAY Chapter 27. Surviving are his widow, Lillian (Sipple) Dively; two sons, John W. Dively Jr., Baltimore, and Albert P. Dively, Swanton; two daughters, Mrs. Jesse Yeager, Detroit, Mich., and Mrs. Margaret Laubach, at home; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The body is at the Price Funeral Home. A service will be conducted there at 2 p.m. Monday by Rev. Raymond Mankamyer, and interment will be in Union Cemetery.

Pa., Feb. 18—Services for Merle Dewey Diveley, 45, local garage operator, who died Wednesday in a Pittsburgh hospital, where he had been a patient for several months, will be conducted tomorrow in Lonaconing. by the Rev. Thomas R. Thomas, pastor of the Methodist Church. Interment will be in Union Cemetery. Surviving are his father, Jonas Diveley, stepmother Mrs. Kathryn (Keidel) Diveley, his widow Mrs. Gladys (Njos) Diveley, five children, Victor Diveley, in the United States Navy, Quonset Point; Mrs. Mary Pritts, Trafford; Mrs. William Bungard, Meyersdale; and Mrs. Esther Maust, Merle Dale Diveley and Helen Diveley, at home; three brothers and four sisters.

Frank J. Diven, 90, of 504 Walnut Avenue, Scottdale, died Friday in his home after an extended illness. He was born Feb. 14, 1877, in Indiana, Pa., a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Diven He had been a scale and fire inspector for the C. Flick Coke Co. for 50 years, retiring in 1945. He was a former member of the Scottdale Borough Council for 20 years, and was a lifetime member of Acacia Lodge No. 355 of Blairsville, and was a member of the Coudersport Consistory. He was a member of the Scottdale First Methodist Church. Surviving arc two sons, David M. Diven of Scottdale, and William A. Diven of Las Cruces, N.M.; a daughter, Mrs. Carl (Charlotte) Thornblade of Scottdale; 11 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Mrs. Harriet Miller Diven in 1954, a son, Robert Diven, in 195? and was the last surviving member of his family.

Midland - Arch Dixon, 61, a retired baker, died yesterday at his home here.  A native of Lonaconing, he was a son of the late James and Ida (Baker) Dixon. His widow is Margaret (McGuire) Dixon.  Besides his widow, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Vincent Nolan, Baltimore, and Mrs. Edward McPartland, Lonaconing; a sister, Mrs, Rhea Niland, Westernport; a brother, Harry Dixon, Lonaconing, and seven grandchildren.  The body is at the residence.  Services will be conducted Wednesday at 9:30 a. m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church here, by Rev. Leslie Schwindt, rector, and interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

DIXON, David

Mr. David Dixon of Lonaconing, died last Friday after a lingering Illness, aged 67 years. Mr. Dixon was prominently identified with the early development of Lonaconing, and for many years had been engaged in the mercantile business with his sons, under the firm name of D. Dixon & Sons. During his recent illness the business had been carried on by Mr. John Dixon. Under President Harrison’s administration, he was postmaster of Lonaconing. He was a native of Scotland, where he leaves one brother, Archibald Dixon. He is also survived by one brother, Daniel Dixon in Lonaconing, and the following children: Mrs. Marion Spier, Mrs. Nellie Kimmel, Misses Fannie, Mary and Jennie Dixon, Messrs James D., John, David, William and Thomas Dixon. Mrs. Dixon has been dead two years. The funeral occurred Sunday, Rev. A.C. Thomson officiating.

DIXON, Mrs. Edna Huffman

Edna (Huffman) Dixon, 94, a resident of the Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home, formerly of Ludwick Street, Keyser, died Sunday, March 13, 2005, at the nursing home. Born on December 19, 1910, at Flats, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late John Samuel and Frances (Whiteman) Huffman. She also was preceded in death by her husband, G. Harley Dixon in 1979 and was the last surviving member of her family. Mrs. Dixon was a homemaker and was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, Westernport. She also was an avid golfer, playing at the Mill Creek, Oakland and Cumberland Country Club courses. At Mrs. Dixon's request, there will be no visitation. Graveside services will be conducted at the Philos Cemetery, Westernport, on Friday, March 18 at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Richard Morley officiating. Interment will follow. The Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be left after Mrs. Dixon's obituary at www.smithfuneralhomes.net.

ELK GARDEN - Mrs. Elizabeth Susan Dixon, who has been a sufferer for many months, peacefully passed to the spirit world Dec. 7, 1913. She had attained to the age of 71 years, 7 months and 2 days. Her maiden name was Kitzmiller and she was born near Hartmonsville, May 5, 1842. She was a consistent member of the M. E. church and died in the happy embrace of a Savior's love. The funeral sermon was preached in the church on Nethken Hill to large gathering of relatives and friends of the departed. Rev. John A. Shockey, her pastor, preached the funeral sermon, comforting the bereaved ones with words of sympathy and consolation. There was a profusion of flowers, beautiful indeed. The flower bearers were David B. Ravenscraft and S. A. Green. She leaves two sisters and one brother. She leaves three daughters, Mrs. James Parr, who lives below Cumberland, Mrs. Gussie Collier and Mrs. Lucretia Grimes, both of Washington, Pa. Her two sons are Payton, of Bayard, and Stephen, who has charge of the home place. The pall bearers were members of the K. of P. They were U. T. Pritchard, E. M. Sheetz, John H. Tice, Chris Yager, James Schwinabart, I. N. Pritchard. Mrs Dixon was the wife of Stephen A. Dixon, who was prominent in county affairs. He died Nov. 13, 1899. Since that time she lived on the home place with her son Stephen Dixon, Jr. She was a worthy woman and will be missed. Wm. H. Kight was the funeral director.

DIXON, Mrs. Etta McKenzie

WESTERNPORT - Mrs. Etta Dixon, wife of James 0. Dixon, 114 Railroad Street, died yesterday in Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser, where she had been a patient three months. A native of Barnum, W. Va., she was a daughter of the late John and Lulu (Hite) McKenzie. Mrs. Dixon, who resided here for some 35 years, was a member of the Assembly of God Church. Besides her husband, she is survived by her stepmother, Mrs. Eva McKenzie; a daughter, Mrs. Donna Brode, of here, four sisters, Mrs. Joyce Jones, Mrs. Marguerite Johnson and Mrs. Hilda Friend, all of here, and Mrs. Bernice Dent, Fort Ashby Road, W. Va. Also surviving are four brothers, Darrell McKenzie, Clifford McKenzie and Elton J. McKenzie, all of here, Wayne McKenzie with the Army in California, and two grandchildren. The body is at the Boal Funeral Home. The body will be taken to the Assembly of God Church at 12:30 p. m. Sunday and services will be conducted at 2 p. m. by Rev. E. W. Welford, pastor. Interment will be in Philos Cemetery.

DIXON, Mrs. Genevive Harsh

Genevive Harsh Dixon, 93, died January 16, 2011, at her home, in Bridgewater Retirement Community, Bridgewater, Virginia. She was born August 14, 1917, in Eglon, a daughter of the late John M. and Edith (Biser) Harsh. After graduating from Aurora High School, she attended and graduated at Bridgewater College, Bridgewater, VA. She was business partners with her husband and founders of PGR Gems, after owning a business in Garrett County. She was a member of the Dayton, VA, Church of the Brethren. She is survived by one daughter and two sons and spouses, Mandy and Larry Pence, of Harrisonburg, Paul R. and Andy Dixon, Jr., of Mannington, and J. Randy and Cheri Dixon, of Harrisonburg; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; nine greatgrandchildren; and two siblings, Ellis (and Helen) Harsh, of Bridgewater, VA, and Ila Rayl, of Martinsburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul R. Dixon, a sister, Ellen Wheeler, and a brother, Marvin. A memorial service was held on Thursday, January 20, at Lantz Chapel, by Bridgewater Home Chaplain, Marty Doss, officiating. A private burial was held in Waynesburg, VA.

DIXON, Mrs. Jessie May Hall

Cumberland - Jessie May Dixon, 98, formerly of Holland Street, Cumberland, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 1997, at Memorial Hospital. She had been a patient at Frostburg Village Nursing Home. Born May 1,  1899, in Frametown, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Sylviais Lee Hall and Ollie (James) Hall. She also was preceded in death  by her husband, Fred Harry Dixon, who died Dec. 11, 1961; and a son, Joseph H. Dixon. Mrs. Dixon was a retired clerk for the postal service in Gasaway, W.Va., and taught school in Kanawha County, W.Va. She was a member of the Central United Methodist Church, and a member of the United Methodist Women. Surviving are two sons, Clarke Hall Dixon and wife Juanita, Tulsa, Okla., and Frederick Dixon, Baton Rouge, La.; three daughters, Betty Lee Lewis and husband Willard, New Berlin, N.Y., Jean D. Mertens, Jacsonville, Fla., and Patricia Anne Cross, Cumberland; one sister, Alice Rollyson, Frametown W.Va.; 13  grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Kight Funeral Home, 309-311 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. William Carr officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park. The family requests that contributions take the for of donations to the Central United Methodist Church, 15 George St., Cumberland, MD 21502.

DIXON, John Bell

Lonaconing - Aug. 29 - John Bell Dixon, a native of Lonaconing died yesterday afternoon at his home in Charleroi, Pa., after having suffered a stroke last Tuesday. He had been in ill health for several years. The son of the late David and Marion Bell, Mr. Dixon left here about 20 years ago. Before retiring six months ago he had been employed as a street car conductor at Charleroi. He was a member of the Charleroi Presbyterian church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary (Albright) Dixon; a daughter, Miss Theresa Dixon, at home; a brother, Thomas Dixon, Lonaconing, and a sister, Mrs. Jennie Fairchild, Wellersburg, Ontario, Canada.

Max W. Dixon, 61, of RD 2, Ridgeley, died yesterday in Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D. C. Mr. Dixon was born May 28, 1920 in Fort Ashby, a son of the late John Walter and Eva (Willison) Dixon. He was retired from the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company; a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the Bethel Tabernacle Assembly of God Church, Old Furnace Road. Surviving are his widow, June H. (Hosier) Dixon; one son, Max H. Dixon, Fountainhead, Keyser; three daughters, Mrs. Sharon McKenzie and Mrs. Kay Powell, both of RD 2, Ridgeley, and Mrs. Diane Hensel of Cumberland; one brother, Walter E. Dixon, Keyser, and eight grandchildren. The body will be returned to the Scarpelli Funeral Home.

DIXON, Ronald D.

FRIENDSVILLE - Ronald D. Dixon, 25, died yesterday of a gunshot wound which police said was self-inflicted on Saturday at the home of Clifford Schroyer here. Police said Dixon was shot in the left shoulder with a .32 calibre rifle. He was taken to the Garret County Memorial Hospital in Oakland and later transferred to the medical center at Morgantown, W. Va. A native of Cumberland, the victim was a son of Carl A. and Delora (Friend) Dixon. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his widow, Lorraine (Friend) Dixon; three brothers, Carl Dixon Jr.; Gary and William Dixon, all of Baltimore, two sisters, Mrs. Donna M. Miller, Richmond, VA., and Mrs. Dorothy Williams, Baltimore. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Friendsville Methodist Church by Rev. George Lovelace. Interment will be in Blooming Rose Cemetery.    The body is at the Newman funeral Home where friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.

DIXON, Mrs. Victoria Sharpless

Elk Garden, W.Va., May 11 - Mrs. Victoria Dixon, 78, wife of W. Thomas Dixon, died early Monday morning. SXhe was the last of her family, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Sharpless of Elk Garden where she spent her life. The late James A. Sharpless of Keyser, was her brother. She was married fifty-three years ago, January 9, to Mr. Dixon. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m, tomorrow from the home with interment in Dixon Cemetery.
