SHORT GAP, W.Va. - Elsie E. Haan, 88, residing with her son, Douglas, in Short Gap at the time of her death, formerly of Triple Lakes, Md., died Sunday, Oct. l l , 1992 at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Md. Born Dec. 12, 1903 in Rawlings, Md., she was the daughter of the late William Lease and Margaret (McKenzie) Lease. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Haan, and by two sons, W. Randolph Haan and Kenneth D. Haan. Mrs. Haan was a sitter for the elderly and a member of the Cresaptown United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Tri-State Chapter of Gold Star Mothers, the American Legion Auxiliary, Fort Cumberland Unit 13, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary Fort Washington 2, and a member of Friends Aware. Survivors include one son, Douglas M. Haan, Short Gap; two daughters, Shirley E. Beechie, La Vale, Md., and Barbara A. Phiffner, Frederick, Md.; one foster daughter, Barbara Jean (Lease) Clark, Short Gap; one brother, Kenneth Lease, Washington, D.C.; five grandchildren, Sharon C. Crawford, Debbie C. Haan and Anthony D. Haan, all of Short Gap, Michelle Ivy, Dallas, Texas, and Danielle Carpenter, El Cajon, Calif.; four great-grandchildren, Christian E. Crawford, Anthony D. Haan, Jr., Theodore L. Carpenter and Elizabeth M. Carpenter. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, Cresaptown, Md., Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Cresaptown United Methodist Church by the Rev. Harold R. McClay, Jr. Interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park, Cumberland. At 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, the Tri-State Chapter of Gold Star Mothers will hold a memorial service. The American Legion Auxiliary will conduct a service at 8 p.m.

MEYERSDALE - Miss Catherine G. Habel, 69, of RD 4, Meyersdale, died yesterday at her residence. Born September 2, 1904, at RD 4, Meyersdale, she was a daughter of the late John and Jennie (Reynolds) Habel. She is survived by a brother John Habel, RD 4, Meyersdale: three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Byers, Meyersdale; Mrs. Margaret Stone, RD 4, Meyersdale, and Mrs. Rebecca Hodgson, Willoughby, Ohio. Friends will be received at the William R. Price Funeral Home after 2:30 p m. today. Services will be conducted there Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Lloyd Sechriest officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery.

HABEL, John D.

MEYERSDALE, Jan. 14. — John D. Habel died at his home in Larimer township, Thursday, January 10. He got up early Thursday morning and started the fires but returned to bed. About an hour later his son, John Henry, went to his father's bedroom to awaken him and found him dead. Mr. Habel was a telegraph operator and was employed by the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Company for about 45 years. He was 75 years old and is survived by his wife and the following children: Mrs. Elizabeth Byers ot Meyersdale, Mrs. William Stone of Sand Patch, Mrs. Rebecca Hodgson, of Larimer township, Kathryn and John Henry at home. He is also survived by two brothers, W. H. Habe! of Meyersdale, and Fred Habel of Markleton and one sister, Mrs. Sophia Reed of Pittsburg. The funeral service was conducted at his late home Sunday afternoon by Rev. J. B. Gindlesperger, his pastor, and Rev. B. A. Black, pastor of the Reformed Church here. Interment in Union Cemetery.

HABEL, William H.

MEYERSDALE, Apr. 6.—William H. Habel, 92, Meyersdale's oldest citizen, died Sunday at the home of a son, Harry, in Larimer township. Born in Germany December 17, 1855, he was active as an officer of the Second National Bank and was a past master of the Masonic Lodge. He was an active member of the Amity Reformed Church and conducted an adult Sunday school class for years. Preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Emma Troutman Habel, in November, 1947, he leaves two sons, Harry and John of Cumberland, and one daughter, Mrs. Clarence Rowe, of Meyersdale. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Rowe home here, in charge of Rev. Nelson Brown. Burial will be made in Union Cemetery.

HABEL, Mrs. Zillah Jeanett Gibbons

Mrs. Zillah Jeanett Habel, 78, of 106 Santa Fe Street, LaVale, Md., died today in Memorial Hospital, Cumberland. She had been in failing health for a year and a hospital patient since July 14. She was born in Dawson, Pa., a daughter of the late Michael and Cora (Aspinall) Gibbons. She was a member of Our Flag Council 100, Daughters of America, and the LaVale Methodist Church, and a charter member and first queen of Potomac Sisterhood No. 284, Dames of Malta. Surviving are her husband, John A. Habel, and a son, William H. Robinson. The funeral will be held tomorrow at 1 p.m. at the Hafer funeral home, Cumberland, with the Rev. Adam E. Grimm, pastor of the LaVale Methodist church, officiating. Interment will be in Rest Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Donald Bittner, William Robison, Bernie Wolford, Edward McFarland, Clifton Baker and Lee Henderson.

Mrs Conrad Haberline, who had been a invalid many years, died Sunday night, aged 70.  She is survived by five daughters, Mrs William Gunter, Mrs Elizabeth Krouse, Mrs Christian Fisher, Mrs Elias Street and Mrs John Krouse; also four sisters; Mrs James Sloan, Mrs Joseph Hoover, Mrs Andrew Entler and Mrs George Shombert, and one brother, Joseph Eberly.  The funeral will be held Wednesday at 2 o'clock from the home of Mrs. Elizabeth Krouse.  Rev Theo Beckmeyer, pastor of the Zion Evangelical Church will officiate.

Mrs. Edith Haberlein, 85, of 70 East Main Street, Frostburg, died today at Frostburg Community Hospital. A native of Frostburg, she was daughter of the late William and Harriet Jenkins. Her husband, Conrad Haberlein, preceded her in death. Mrs. Haberlein was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ. Surviving are two sons, Harry L. Haberlein, Eckhart, and Paul C. Haberlein, city; one daughter, Mrs. Mildred Martin, Baltimore; four sisters, Mrs. Trudy Smouse and Mrs. Belle Martin, both of Frostburg; Mrs. Alice Atkinson, city, and Mrs. Elizabeth Williams, Dayton, Ohio; two brothers, Lawrence Jenkins, city, and William Jenkins, Dayton; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The body is at the Hafer-Sowers Funeral Home where friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. and tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be concluded Sunday at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Paul V. Taylor will officiate and interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.

HABERLEIN, Miss Elizabeth

Frostburg, Oct. 29 — Miss Elizabeth Haberlein, 83, daughter of the late Henry and Mary (Knatz) Haberlein, died yesterday afternoon at her home, 129 West Main street, after an illness of several years. A native, she was identified with one of Frostburg's oldest families. She was a member of Salem Evangelical and Reformed Church. Four sisters survive — Mrs. Matilda McLuckie, Toledo, Ohio; Mrs. Edward Hadra, Cumberland; Mrs. Herbert Rawlings, Pinto, and Mrs. Jennie Glodfelty, this city.

Frostburg, Sunday Evening at 6 o'clock. The deceased was a member of St. Paul's English Lutheran Church of Frostbrg, where the funeral ceremonies for the dead were held this afternoon at 2 o'clock.

HABERLEIN, Henry

Henry Haberlein died at his residence, this place, Sunday evening last of dropsy of the heart. He was born in Eba, Rodenburg county, Kur-Hessen, April 3, 1826, and was therefore, in the 69th year of his age. After serving a term in the German Army during the Schleswig-Holstein war he came to Baltimore in June, 1851, and four months later-- October 26, Miss Mary Knatz became his wife at Wellersburg, PA Rev. B. Knepper, of the Reformed church, still living, officiated at the wedding. In October, 1852, he settled in Frostburg and lived here ever since. He was the first taken by death from an interesting famiy circle of ten--wife and nine children. Those living abroad are Mrs. William Baum, of Salisbury, Pa., and Mrs. J. E. Shuckhart, of Toledo, O. Those residing here are the ony son, J. H. Haberlein, Mrs. H. P. Girffith, Mrs. A. L. McLuckie and Misses Lizzie, Jennie, Rose and Carrie. The funeral took place Wednesday afternoon. Afther the usual services at the house the numerous attendants repaired to the English Luteran church where the pastor, Rev. C. A. Britt, assisted by Rev. H. Dieckmann, of the Reformed church, continues the exercises, including an eloquent and just tribute to the life and character of the deceased. Thence the remains were interred in Allegany cemetery. Henry Haberlein was a good man. Industrious, honest, upright, he quite filled the measure of righteousness attainable by all who must wring from fortune by labor and frugality the earnings which make them independent. It is safe to say he wronged no man and that he did leaving to all a memory to be cherished by his friends and venerated by his family.

A 25-year-old Bowling Green mother and her two young children were killed yesterday in a two-vehicle accident on Route 220 at the southern outskirts of Bowling Green. Dead are Mrs. Lorraine L. Habersack, wife of E. James Habersack, 397 Bowling Avenue, five-year-old Melinda and one-year- old Gina, who died in the emergency room of Memorial Hospital as a team of doctors worked to save her life. The mother and other child were pronounced dead on arrival at the local hospital. Members of the Bowling Green Volunteer Fire Company used an air chisel to remove the mother and two daughters from a foreign-make car which was rammed by a tractor-trailer rig of a Crites Transfer, 905 Glenwood Street. The driver of the rig, Richard E. Wiley, 21, of RD 3, Highland Drive, Cumberland, was examined at the local hospital and released. He was reported to be in a state of shock following the accident at 9:46 a.m. State Police said the Habersack car was headed south on Route 220 and was some distance behind a car being operated by Thomas E. Smith, 51, of LaVale. The rig was being operated north by Wiley who lost control of the vehicle on the wet roadway. The rig struck the left rear fender of the Smith car, spun around and slid over into the southbound lane and pinned the Habersack car against an embankment. An investigation is being continued, according to Trooper Larry Tracey, who said charges are pending. He was assisted in the initial investigation by Cpl. James A. Lough. The victims of the crash were taken to the hospital by the Cresaptown and LaVale rescue squads. Mr. Wiley had hauled a trailer load of insulation to the VEPCO plant in Mt. Storm and left the loaded trailer at the site and was returning to Cumberland in the rig at the time of the fatal accident, police said. A native of Barton, Mrs. Habersack was a daughter of Harry and Lois (Green) Clark of Barton. Besides her parents and husband, other survivors include a sister, Mary Jane Clark, Barton, and her paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Clark, also of Barton. The bodies are at the Boal Memorial Chapel in Barton where friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. and tomorrow from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A mass of the resurrection has been scheduled for Friday morning at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Cresaptown.

CRESAPTOWN - Susan Frances Habersack, 87, of Cresaptown, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, at Sacred Heart Hospital. Born Aug. 13, 1917, in Mount Savage, she was the daughter of the late Augustus Joseph and Gladys (Chisholm) McKenzie. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Thomas Mason McKenzie, Harry Vincent McKenzie, Paul Elwood McKenzie and Augustus McKenzie Jr.; one sister, Shirley Ann Diehl; three grandchildren, Melinda and Gina Habersack and Harvey Rockwell Jr.; and one daughter-in-law, Lorraine Habersack. Mrs. Habersack was a housewife and mother. She was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church and she enjoyed gardening and painting with acrylics. HACKER, Charles Winston

FORT ASHBY, W.Va. — Charles Winston Hacker, 80, of Baker Hollow Road, Fort Ashby, died Sunday, May 2, 2004, at his residence. Born on May 12, 1923, at Mount Clare, he was a son of the late Charles Asa and Bernice (Farley) Hacker. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Lewis Dale Hacker. Mr. Hacker was retired as a locomotive engineer with the former Western Maryland Railroad with 41 years of service. He was a 1942 graduate of Ridgeley High School and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving as an aviation radioman. He was a member of the Keyser Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, life member of Victory Post 155, American Legion, Westernport, Md., Fort Ashby Post 6667, VFW, D.A.V. Chapter, Cumberland, Md., and the National Rifle Association. Mr. Hacker was also an amateur ham radio operator using the call sign KC8UJH. Surviving are his wife of 27 years, Shirley Frances (Broadwater) Hacker; seven sons, Wayne David Hacker of Ohio, Gerald Hacker of Chambersburg, Pa., Randy Hacker, Danny Hacker, Brian Hacker and Chris Wade, all of York, Pa., and William Robey Jr. of Cumberland; four daughters, Darlene Hacker of Virginia Beach, Va., Deborah “Susie” Boley of Romney, Jeanette Robey of Cresaptown, Md., and Karen Miller of Cumberland; 33 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Wednesday, May 5. Funeral services will be conducted there on Thursday, May 6, at 2 p.m. with President Archie Self Jr. presiding. Interment will be in the Fort Ashby Cemetery where graveside military honors will be accorded.

HACKER, Mrs. Clara E. Beeman

LONACONING - Mrs. Clara E. Hacker, 82, of Watercliffe Street, died yesterday at Kyle Nursing Home. A native of Garrett County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Clark Beeman and was the widow of Charles Hacker. She was a member of the United Methodist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Martha Clark and Mrs. Julia Jacobs, here; two sons, Charles Hacker, here, and James Hacker, Manassas; three sisters, Mrs. Effie Layton, Barton; Mrs. Mary Shriver, Moscow; and Mrs. Blanche Klavuhn, here; two brothers, George Beeman, Westernport, and Oscar Beeman, here; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. The body is at the Eichhorn Funeral Home. A service will be conducted there Monday  at 1 p.m. Rev. Wayne Turner will officiate and interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

LONACONING - Ernest Hacker, 79, died yesterday at Sylvan Retreat. Born in Lonaconing, he was a son of the late Henry and Martha (McKenzie) Hacker. The only survivors are a number of nieces and nephews. A service was held this afternoon at the Eichhorn Funeral Home, and burial was in the Allegany County Cemetery.

LONACONING - Frederick George Hacker, 78, formerly of Lonaconing, died of a heart condition Thursday at Sewickley, Pa., where he resided on Fairhill Road. Mr. Hacker was a son of the late Frederick Henry and Ellen (McKenzie) Hacker of here. His wife, the former Edith Snyder, died two years ago. Surviving are two sons, John and Edward Hacker, Sewickley; three daughters, Mrs. Thelma Siebke, and Mrs. Gladys Getz, both of Sewickley, and Mrs. Esther Durnell, Slippery Rock, Pa.; a brother, Louis Hacker, in Week's Nursing Home, Oakland; and a number of nephews and nieces in Midland, Lonaconing and Baltimore. The body is at the P. Brandt Funeral Home, Perrysville, Pa., where services will be held today at 3 p.m.

HACKER, Henry
 
Lonaconing, Md., Dec. 17 - Henry Hacker, 75, native of Germany, who served in the Franco-Prussian War, died Friday evening at his home at Charlestown, a suburb. He came to Allegany county when a young man. He had been prospecting in the hills hereabout for years and was reputed to have discovered gold, silver and other metals. He was known as "the man of mystery" on account of his quiet prospecting. If he found gold and silver, outsiders have never been able to locate his mines. His first wife was killed twelve years ago when a son dropped a spark of powder at the home. The son, Louis, now of Martinsburg, W.Va., lost an eye. There are also six other children by the first marriage: Mrs. Rachel Ashby Lease, Henry Hacker and Fred Hacker, of Pittsburgh; Owen Hacker, Elkins, W.Va.; Charles and Ernest Hacker, Lonaconing. One child, Helen, seven years old, survives by the second marriage.

John Elbin Hacker, 62, of Cleveland, Ohio, died Monday in a Cleveland Hospital. He was born Aug 22, 1902, in Lonaconing, Md., a son of Mrs. Margaret McIntyre of Morgantown and the late Owen Hacker. Survivors in addition to his mother include his wife, Ruth Hacker; two daughters, Odessa and June hacker; and two sons, Donald and John Hacker, all at home; four sisters, Mrs. Pearl Molter, Mrs. Edna Gavozzo, Mrs. Odessa Colland and Pauline Hacker; three brothers, Vincent, Hodgson and William Hacker.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday in Cleveland.

BURLINGTON, W.Va. — Lewis Dale Hacker, 72, of Burlington, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 1996, at Potomac Valley Hospital. Born Oct. 3, 1924, in Harrison County, he was the son of the late Charles and Bernice (Farley) Hacker. Mr. Hacker served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired in 1968, having been a Naval Seaman for the National Maritime Union. He was a member of District 4, MEBA/NMU, an affiliate of the AFL/CIO. Mr. Hacker was of the Mormon faith. Survivors include one brother, Charles Hacker, Fort Ashby; nieces, Karen Miller and husband William, and Jeannette Miller and husband Roger, all of Cumberland, and Darlene Susan Kelly; and nephews, William Robey Jr. and wife Laura Mae, Cumberland, Gerald Vance Hacker, Chambersburg, Pa., Wayne David Hacker, Newark, Ohio, Danny Kay Hacker, Randy Dean Hacker and Brian Keith Hacker, all of York, Pa. Visitation will be at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Fort Ashby, on Monday. The service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 1996, at 2 p.m. with President Archie Self Jr. officiating. Interment will be in the Fort Ashby Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.

Lonaconing, Nov 26 – Word was received here today of the death Friday of Owen Hance Hacker, 61, at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Paul Molter, Morgantown, W.Va. Surviving relatives include two brothers, Lewis and Charles Hacker, Lonaconing, and a sister, Martha Lease, Midland.

HADRA, Mrs. Anna Rosa Haberlein

Mrs. Anna Rosa (Haberlein) Hadra, 75, wife of Edward Hadra, and a former teacher at Beall grade school in Frostburg, died Monday at her home, 515 Rose Hill avenue. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church. Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Edward H. Hadra, of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Hampton Hadra, at home; a daughter, Mrs. Anna Rose O'Neal, this city, and three sisters, Mrs. Mathilda McLuckie, of Toledo, Ohio; Mrs. Jennie Glotfeltz, of Frostburg, and Mrs. H. S. Rawlings, of Pinto. The body is at the home where funeral services will be conducted tomorrow at 11 a. m. by the Rev. Hixson T. Bowersox of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.

John F. Hadra, 70 years old, died at this home this morning at 8:20 o'clock. Besides his wife, Elizabeth Jane, he is survived by two children, William J. Hadra and Mrs. H. Lucille Baumer, together with two brothers, George A. and Edward Hadra. The body was removed to Butler's Funeral Parlors pending funeral arrangements.

Funeral services for John F. Hadra, 70 years old, who died yesterday at his home, 335 Mountain View Drive, will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Sevier S. Baumer, 325 Mountain View Drive. Rev. Harry Evaul, pastor of Centre Street Methodist Episcopal Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. The service will be in charge of the Knights of Pythias Lodge, No. 60, of which Mr. Hadra was a member for over 35 years. Mr. Hadra, who was widely known here, was in business as a cigar manufacturer. Prior to that he had been employed by the Western Maryland Railroad Company.

Mrs. Annie (Deist) Hady of Large Street, Meyersdale, passed away in the Hazel McGilvery Hospital early Monday morning, August 16, after a long illness. Her age at death was 76 years, four months and 10 days. The daughter of the late Herman and Susan Deist, she was born April 6, 1872, in Meyersdale where she lived all her life. Her husband, William F. Hady, a B. & O. engineer, died in 1919. Mrs. Hady is survived by the following children: Ella, wife of Walter Koontz, Gary, Ind.; Mrs. Maud Anderson, Chicago, Ill.; Bess, wife of Frank Hoopes, Minerva, O.; Margaret, wife of Robert Peck, Sr., Meyersdale; Nelle, wife of Fred Groff, Meyersdale; Michael and George, Meyersdale; William, Somerset; James and Frederick, Gary, Ind.; Emma, wife of George May, Johnstown; Dorothy, wife of Henry Walter, Johnstown. Also surviving are two brothers, Charles Deist of Glencoe and Albert Deist of Steubenville, O., and two sisters, Mrs. E. R. Beagle of Bedford and Mrs. J. O. McDowell of Warren, O., and by 27 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was a devoted member to her large family of children, and in turn was lovingly cared for in her later years by them, those that reside away coming as frequently as possible to visit her. She was a faithful member of Amity Evangelical and Reformed Church. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 at the Konhaus Funeral Home, with the Rev. George Fitz, Evangelical and Reformed minister of Johnstown, and the Rev. H. K. Hilner, local Lutheran minister, officiating. Interment was made in Union Cemetery.

MEYERSDALE - Michael H. Hady, 68, who operated a clothing store in Meyersdale, died at Meyersdale Community Hospital. Born in Meyersdale, he was a son of the late William and Annie (Deist) Hady. He was a member of Amity United Church of Christ and was dean of the businessmen's association. He entered the clothing business in 1918 with Hartley and Baldwin. In 1924, he joined the W. H. Baldwin Store, and in 1948 began operating the store with his son, Michael Hady, Jr. He was a member of the Meyersdale Chamber of Commerce and Meyersdale Lodge B.P.O. Elks. Also surviving are his widow, Caroline Meese Hady; one son, William F. Hady, Meyersdale; two daughters, Mrs. James Deetz and Mrs. Joann Arnold, both of Meyersdale; three brothers, George Hady, Meyersdale; and Fred and James Hady, both of Gary, Indiana; and seven sisters, Mrs. Maude Anderson, Chicago, Illinois; Mrs. Ella Koontz, Gary; Mrs. Bess Hoopes, Minerva, Ohio; Mrs. George May and Mrs. Henry Walters, both of Johnstown; and Mrs. Robert Peck and Mrs. Nell Groff, both of Meyersdale.

Mrs. Emma F. Haenftling, 84, of 209 West Second Street, died yesterday in Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient one week. A native of Little Orleans, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Lucinda (Twigg) Appel and the widow of Gilbert E. Haenftling. She is survived by two sons, Robert H. Haenftling, Baltimore, and Ralph C. Haenftling, Verona, N. J.; five daughters, Mrs. Irene M. Collins, Mrs. Margaret L. Bussard, Mrs. Augusta A. Durbin, Mrs. Gladys V. Poland, and Mrs. Frances E. Bergman, all of Cumberland; two sisters, Mrs. Cleda Bishop, city, and Mrs. Eva Roby, Grafton, W. Va.; 31 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. The body is at the Scarpelli Funeral Home where friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted tomorrow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home by Rev. Alex N. Nemeth. Interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.

MEYERSDALE - Duane Edward Haer, 7, of RD 4, died yesterday at Meyersdale Community Hospital. He had been in ill health the past year. Born December 2, 1967 in Meyersdale, he was a son of Richard and Dorothea (Miller) Haer. Also surviving are two brothers, Ritchie and Steven Haer, and a sister Robin Haer, all at home; the paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Cletus Haer, and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Miller. The body is at the Price Funeral Home. Arrangements are incomplete.

Caught in the fall of a portion of the roof of the old Slope mine near Garrett, Pa., Thursday night, Earl Haer, a miner, was crushed to death under tons of rock and soil. Haer was working in the main heading when a first fall imprisoned him. He called for help, but before he could be extricated, he was buried under the second fall. The body was extricated yesterday after one hundred miners, including many from Meyersdale, had worked all night in the hope that Haer might still be alive. Haer is survived by his wife and several children.

MEYERSDALE — Emmit B. Haer, 58, of Garrett, RD 1, died suddenly Tuesday in Meyersdale. A native of Garrett RD 1, he was a son of the late George and Olie (Briskey) Haer. He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Sherman) Haer; a daughter, Mary Alice Haer, at home; a sister, Mrs. Roy Hershberger, RD 1, Meyersdale, and two bothers, Clyde Haer, RD 1, Garrett, and Jay Haer, Red Lion. The body is at the Price Funeral Home where friends will be received after 2 p.m. today. A service will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at Center Lutheran Church by Rev. Andrew Kazar. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The body will be taken to the church one hour before the service.

MEYERSDALE, June 14 — Noah C. Haer, 64, died Wednesday morning of apoplexy at his home at Garrett, R. D. He leaves his widow, four daughters and two sons.

Preston M. Haer, 63, of RD 1, Garrett, Pa., died Monday afternoon in a two-car collision on U.S. Route 219 about six miles north of Meyersdale. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Meyersdale Community Hospital, according to authorities, who said Mr. Haer, who was traveling alone north on the highway, collided headon with a car driven by Rodger Lee Werner, 18, of Garrett, who apparently was uninjured. Police said Mr. Haer crossed the center line of the highway about a half mile north of Garett and rammed into the on-coming auto. A coroner's autopsy disclosed that Mr. Haer suffered a heart attack possibly seconds before the collision. A native of Garrett, Mr. Haer was born on August 14, 1903, and was a son of the late Conad and Ellen (Shrock) Haer. He is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Martin Sanner, RD 1, Somerset, Mrs. Norman Brant and Mrs. Norma Burkholder, both of RD 1, Garrett, Mrs. John Burkholder, RD l, Meyrsdale, and two brothers, Homer and Curtis Haer, both of RD 1, Garrett. Friends will be received at the Price Funeral Home in Meyersdale where a service will be conducted tomorrow at 2 p.m. Rev. Andrew Kazar will officiate, and interment will be in Center Lutheran Cemetery, Garrett.

MEYERSDALE — Mrs. Violet Mae Haer, 84, of Garrett, died yesterday at Meyersdale Community Hospital. Born at Clear Ridge, she was a daughter of the late Horace and Laura (Wasson) Grove and was the widow of Noah Haer. Mrs. Haer was a member of Center Lutheran Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Garrett Fire Company. CUMBERLAND - Linda (Loar) Hafer, 60, of Cumberland, died Tuesday, March 26, 2002, at Sacred Heart Hospital. Born June 30, 1941, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of Lois (Byrd) Loar of Rawlings and the late John William Loar Sr. Linda was a graduate of Allegany High School Class of 1959, a graduate of Memorial Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1962, former member of Cresap Chapter DAR, former member of Memorial Hospital Auxillary, Life Member of the Western Maryland Memorial Hospital Nurses Alumnae Association, she was a registered nurse employed first at the M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas, then Memorial Hospital, Sacred Heart Hospital, Arlington Memorial Hospital and Sunrise Hospital, both in Texas, then the Finan Center in Cumberland. Linda was currently employed by MedAssist-OP, Inc, as an Orthotic Consultant. Surviving, in addition to her mother, are children Charles Edward Hafer Jr. and wife Julie of Baltimore, William Byrd Hafer of Manhattan, N.Y., and Leah Hafer Van Der Meid and husband Scott of Laurel, two expected grandchildren by Julie and Leah in June, a brother John William Loar Jr., of Newburg; sisters Mary A. Loar, Rawlings, Eleanor J. Loar of Piedmont, W.Va., Deborah L. Loar of Rawlings and Melissa R. Loar, Rawlings; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends and family will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Hwy, LaVale, on Friday, March 29, 2002, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2002, at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Lee Hagans, second son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Grimes of Pattersons Creek, died on Tuesday the 14th of Feb., he had Membranous Croup, was buried in Frankfort on Friday, his age was nine years, eleven months and three days. His father, mother and three brothers and lots of other near relatives are left to mourn the loss of a good little boy. Lee was a favorite and loved by all who knew him.

Mrs Mary C. Hagans, aged 77 years, widow of the late Capt. Henry Clay Hagans, formerly of Brandonville W Va, died Tuesday evening at 6 o'clock a the home of her daughter, Mrs Percival Lantz, at Alaska. Mrs Hagans is survived by one son, William H Hagans, of Washington DC, and three daughters, Mrs Laura Ross, of Washington DC, Mrs Percival Lantz and Miss Louise Hagens of Alaska, WVa. The funeral took place at Kingwood WV, Thursday evening.

FROSTBURG — Allen H. Hager, 69, of 30 Washington Street, died yesterday at his residence. He had been in failing health the past 18 months. A native of Garrett County, he was a son of the late William and Elizabeth (Michaels) Hager. A retired pipe fitter at Allegany Ballistics Laboratory, he was a veteran of World War II, and a member of Farrady Post 24, American Legion and St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Surviving are his widow, Aldyth (Kergan) Hager; a brother, Charles Hager, here, and a number of nieces and nephews. The body will be at the Durst Funeral Home, where friends will be received today from 7 until 9 p.m. and tomorrow from 3 until 5 and 7 until 9 p.m.

Delbert Virgil Hager, 67, of RD 4, Messick Road, city, died Thursday in the Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C., where he has been a patient for three months. Born in Cumberland, he was a son of the late James F. Hager and the late Eva (Zerbach) Hager. He was a retired employee of the Chessie System, where he worked as a machinist helper. He was a member of the International Association of Machinist Helpers, a member of Christ United Methodist Church, and an Air Force veteran of World War II. He is survived by his widow, Phyllis (Layman) Hager; one daughter, Mrs. Jackileen Kaiser, RD 4, Messick Road, city; a niece whom the couple raised, Mrs. Sheila Humbertson, RD 4; one brother, James R. Hager, city; three sisters, Mrs. Almeda Fisher, Mrs. Lois Zollner, Mrs. Rose Marie Layman, all of city; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Friends will be received at the Silcox-Merritt Funeral Residence Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted Sunday at 1 p.m. by the Rev. Mrs. Edna McNeil Hager, Route 2, this city, widow of William  Hager, died yesterday in Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient since October 23. A native of Hagerstown, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Ardinger. She was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church. Mrs. Hager is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Carl Davidson, this city: four sons, Norman C. Hager, Williamsport, Pa.; James F. Hager, with whom she lived; Vernon C. Hager, and Andrew J. Hager, both of this city; one brother, John Ardinger, Williamsport, Md.; one sister, Mrs. Laura Beckley, Hagerstown, 17grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. The body is at the George Funeral Home where services will be held Wednesday at 2 p. m. by Rev. David C. Watson, rector of Emmanuel Episcopal Church. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Frostburg - Mrs. Elizabeth A. Hager, wife of Mr. William Hager, of District No. 9, Garrett county, died yesterday morning, aged 45 years, of cancer. FROSTBURG—George Hager, 44, 49 East Main Street, died suddenly today at 5:30 a. m. in Miners Hospital where he was admitted last night at 11 suffering an internal ailment. Hager, a Frostburg businessman for 12 years, was owner of the Frostburg Dental Laboratories. He was a member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 470 and a member of the First English Baptist Church. He is survived by two brothers, Charles W. and Allen, and two nephews, all of Frostburg. He is the son of the late Mr. and. Mrs. William Hager, of Frostburg. The body will be at the home of his brother, Charles, 124 Pine Street.

George Alexander Hadra, 76, Baltimore and Ohio engineer, who retired eight years ago, died this morning at his home, 158 1/2 Bedford Street. Mr. Hadra came from one of the old families of Cumberland. His father, the late Edward Hadra, was a pioneer cigar maker who served in the Union Army. His mother, the former Mary Shultz, was active in the Women's Relief Corps in the virile days of the Grand Army of the Republic. Mr. Hadra was a brother of Oscar A. Hadra, widely known as a traveling salesman, who died at Lonaconing. His survivors include his widow who was Mattie E. Arendell; two sons, George and William; and two daughters, Mrs. Mary Clark and Mrs. Loleta Windemuth; also one brother, Edward Hadra, retired city letter carrier.

Frostburg - Mr. John Hager, Sr., died at Borden Mines, Saturday morning from paralyis aged 75 years. Mr. Hager was born in Germany and came to this country when quite a young man. He had been a hard working miner in this vicinity until old age compelled him to retire. He is survived by his wife and the following children: John Hager, Jr., Charles Hager, Wm. Hager, Mrs. George Stevens, Ocean, Mrs. Isaac Kear, Shaft, and Miss Mary Hager, at home. The funeral took place Monday afternoon from the residence at Borden Mines. Interment in Percy cemetery in this place.

FROSTBURG - Mary Jane Hager, 80, of Frostburg, died at Frostburg Village Nursing Home on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007, from complications associated with Alzheimer's disease. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 56 years, Dr. Robert C. Hager; two sisters; a brother; and one son. The youngest of four children, she was born on Jan. 10, 1927, in Frostburg. She was the daughter of Thomas W. Price and Elva (Thomas) Price. Mrs. Hager was President and co-owner of the Mary Carol Shop for 30 years, a ladies apparel store located at 19 East Main Street, in partnership with her daughter, Robyn Hager-Sine. She was associated with the Frostburg Business and Professional Association, the Soroptomist Club, AAUW, and was a lifelong member of the Frostburg United Methodist Church. Mrs. Hager is survived by five children, Ann and her husband Whit Richardson, of Avon, Ind., Robyn and her husband Marty Sine, of Frostburg, Charles Thomas Hager and his wife Pamella Susan, of Frostburg, Philip Robert Hager and fianc` Pam Cover, of Frostburg, and Sarah and her husband Tracy Simmons, of Glen Allen, Va. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Alex Zetusky, of Houston, Texas, Robert Richardson, of Avon, Ind., Emily Susan Hager, of Frostburg, Thomas Charles Hager, of Frostburg, Olivia Allison Hager, of Frostburg, Dorothy Elyse Hager, of Myersville, Zachary Thomas Simmons, of Glen Allen, Va., and Katherine Robyn Simmons, of Glen Allen, Va.; one great-grandchild, Valerie Zetusky, of Houston, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends and family will be received at the Durst Funeral, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Tuesday, Dec. 11, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Wednesday, Dec. 12, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Rebecca Vardiman officiating. Internment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Charles Thomas Hager, Philip Robert Hager, Tracy Simmons, Marty Sine, Whit Richardson, and Thomas Erb. Frostburg, July 15 — Mrs. Minnie (Brode) Hager, 77, widow of Charles Hager, died at 8:30 a. m. today at her home, Borden Mines, following a heart attack. She had been in ill health for two years and her condition became serious two weeks ago. A lifelong member of Salem Reformed Church, she was a member of Calanthe Temple No. 3, Pythian Sisters, and the Ridgeley Rebekah Lodge. She is survived by four sons - George, Baltimore; Henry, Akron, Ohio; Frederick and Frank Hager, at home; three daughters, Mrs. Karl Rephann, Akron; Mrs. James Tennant, Borden Road; Grace Hager, at home. She was a sister of Mrs. Margaret Crump, Mt. Savage; Mrs. Ella Rogers, Frostburg; Mrs. Frank Definbaugh, Akron. She had five grandchildren. Hafer Funeral Home, Frostburg.

Mrs. Norma Frances Hager, 52, of Port Republic, Va., and formerly of Cumberland and Levels, W.Va., died December 20 at the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville, where she had been admitted December 3. Born in Levels, she was a daughter of the late Theodore W. and Grace Alberta (Ullery) Snyder, of Cumberland. Surviving besides her husband and parents are three sons, Edward William Hager, Keezletown, Va.; James Wesley Hager, Saint Clair, Pa., and Terrance Lee Hager, Frostburg; a daughter, Mrs. Constance Susan Davis, Grottoes, Va.; a sister, Mrs. Ira Lee Reed, Cumberland, and 11 grandchildren. A service was held December 23 in the Chapel of the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home with Rev. James Mahaffey officiating. Interment was in East Lawn Memorial Gardens, near Harrisonburg, Va.

HAGGENMILLER, Hugo Ludwig

HYNDMAN – Hugo Ludwig Haggenmiller, 62, died yesterday in Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, where he had been admitted earlier in the day. Born in Munich, Germany, he was the son of the late Ludwig and Katherine (Schneider) Haggenmiller. Surviving are his widow, Orena (Wolford) Haggenmiller, and a sister, Mrs. Anna Wegener, Bayern, Germany. The body is at the Zeigler Funeral Home where friends will be received tomorrow from 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted there Sunday at 2 p.m. by Rev. Willard White, pastor of Hyndman Methodist Church. Burial will be in Lybarger Cemetery.

HAGGENMILLER, Mrs. Orena Wolford

HYNDMAN— Mrs. Orena W. Haggenmiller, 66, of Charlotte, Mich., and a former resident, died Saturday in a Charlotte hospital, where she had been a patient three weeks. A native of Pennsylvania, she was a daughter of the late Burton and Laura Ellen (Leonard) Wolford, and was the widow of Hugo Haggenmiller. She had been employed as a secretary for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in Bedford. Surviving is a sister, Mrs. Fritz Haramerberg, RD 2, Charlotte, Mich. The body will be at the Zeigler Funeral Home where friends will be received tomorrow from 6 to 9 p.m. A service will be conducted there Wednesday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Willard White officiating. Interment will follow in the Hyndman (sic) Cemetery.
