MICHAEL, Clarence R.

Sudden Death
Clarence R Michael, aged 27 years, son of Mr and Mrs Calvin Michael, and living with his parents on Park Avenue, dropped dead Thursday morning at the home of his parents. The young man had worked all night on Wednesday with his father in the mines and had arrived home about three o'clock Thursday morning. He at once washed and went to bed. He did not complain in any way to his parents about being ill with the exception of a slight cold. About 10 o'clock on Thursday, his mother called him and he came downstairs and prepared for his breakfast and was sitting at the table eating when his head dropped forward. His parents immediately got him to the door in order to give him air and a physician was summoned but before he arrived the young man was dead. The deceased was married but was separated from his wife who lives in Cumberland. He is survived by his parents, six sisters and four brothers. The funeral arrangements have not been completed.

Terra Alta, W. Va., Jan. 31 - Curtis M. Michael, 60, died at his home in Morgantown, Wednesday evening after a long illness. He was born near Terra Alta, the son of Phillip and Laville Hartman Michael and was a prominent farmer of Preston county before going to Morgantown some years ago. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Blanche Friend Michael, and the following children: Mrs. Evelyn Newton, Mrs. Flo Everly, Arthur and Hobart Michael and Miss Grace Michael, all of Morgantown, and two sisters, Mrs. Plega Gibson, Terra Alta, and Mrs. Ida Huff, of Cumberland. Interment will be in Terra Alta Cemetery.

FROSTBURG - Darleen Clara (Wilhelm) Rounds Michael, 57, of National Pike, Frostburg, died Wednesday, April 4, 2007, at WMHS-Memorial Campus, Cumberland. Born May 14, 1949 at Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Hilda (Minnick) Wilhelm. Mrs. Michael was a custodian at New Germany State Park and was Mennonite by faith. She was a very loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother. For every heart she touched, she brought a smile. She is survived by her husband, Harry A. Michael; one son, Dean Rounds, and wife, Sandy, of Grantsville; two daughters, Joan Rounds, and friend, Frank Leach, of Frostburg and Sandy Beachy, and husband, Steve, of Grantsville; three brothers, Blaine Wilhelm, and wife, Sharon, of Avilton, Dale Wilhelm, and wife, Sandy, of Upper Marlboro, and Freeman Wilhelm, and wife, Carole, of Hancock; two sisters, Thelma Weir, of Mt. Savage and Ada Layton, and husband, John, of Avilton; one sister-in-law, Ruth Miller, and husband, Francis, of Accident; 10 grandchildren, Kayla Rounds, Brandon Beachy, Stephanie Beachy, Dean Rounds Jr., Adam Rounds, Bryan Rounds, Brittany Wilhelm, Megan Wilhelm, Heather Wilhelm, and Justin Wilhelm. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted in the funeral home on Saturday, April 7, 2007 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. William Shimer officiating. At her request, cremation will follow the services. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the American Cancer Society or Johns Hopkins Hospital.

TAKOMA PARK - David 0. Michael, 78, of Takoma Park, formerly of Garrett County, died Sunday, April 25, 1993 at the Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park. Born Aug. 27, 1915 in Avilton, he was the son of the late Ernest and Margaret Michael. Mr. Michael retired from the W.C. & A.N. Miller Development Company. Surviving are his wife, Mabel G. Michael and one son, John D. Michael, Eldersburg. Friends will be received at the Frances J. Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard, West, Silver Spring, Tuesday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Sligo Seventh Day Adventist Church, Takoma Park, by the Rev. William Loveless. Interment will be at Frostburg Memorial Park on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Washington Adventist Hospital Foundation-Cardiology Research Program.

MICHAEL, Earle

Mr. Earle Michael, son of Mr. J. C. Michael, of Williamsport, W.Va., died in Keyser Sunday, December 10, 1911, after an illness of more than six weeks of typhoid fever, aged 20 years and four days. His body was buried in the Lahmansville Cemetery Tuesday afternoon. He was a bright young man and had a promising future. His father and numerous relatives and many friends have sincere sympathy in this sore bereavement.

Frostburg, Md., April 1 — Edgar M. Michael, clerk at Race's Hotel, who was stricken last Tuesday with paralysis at his home here, died at 10 o'clock this morning. He is survived by his wife and a son and daughter. Mr. Michael had formerly been employed as a traveling salesman.

Frostburg, Md., April 2 — The funeral of Edgar N. Michael, aged 70 years, who died at his home on West Union street, Thursday morning, will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock from the family home at 82 West Union street. Rev. Dr. J. C. Nicholson, pastor of the First M. E. Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Allegany cemetery. Surviving are his widow, five daughters - Mrs. C. E. Wilson, Akron, Ohio; Mrs. Clarence Bothwell, Westernport; Mrs. Adam Brode, Mrs. Grace Jeffries, and Mrs. Edward Monahan, this place; one son, Harry Michael, also of Frostburg. Twenty-four grandchildren also survive. Mr. Michael was a member of Frostburg Aerie 1273, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and had been treasurer of that organization since its inception. Prior to his illness of one week ago, he was a clerk at the Race Hotel.

BARTON — Edwin Warfield Michael, 89, of 19714 Old Miller Rd., S.W., Barton, died Sunday, June 25, 1995, at his home, following an extended illness. Born Dec. 26, 1905, in Barton, he was the son on the late Peter F. Michael and Elizabeth (Colmer) Michael. He was also preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. Mr. Michael was a self-employed farmer and was Methodist by faith. He was a member of Hiram Lodge 103, A.F.& A.M., Westernport; Martha Washington Chapter 10, Order of the Eastern Star; the Scottish Rite Bodies of Cumberland; and the Ali Ghan Shrine Club, Cumberland. Surviving are one brother, Delbert Michael, Cresaptown; one niece, Juanita Beachy and husband Ken, Grantsville; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Friends will be received at the Fredlock Funeral Home, Piedmont, W.Va., on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Hiram Lodge A.F. & A.M. will hold a memorial service at the funeral home on Monday at 7:30 p.m. Services will be at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Harold Malone officiating, Interment will be in the Philos Cemetery, Westernport.Members of Hiram Lodge will serve as pallbearers. The family requests that memorials take the form of donations to the Tri-Towns Rescue Squad.

MICHAEL, Mrs. Elizabeth

Died at her home in District No. 9, Garrett Co, October 6, 1908, Mrs Charles Michael, aged 76 years, six months and twelve days. She leaves her husband and eight children to mourn her loss. The children are Mrs Peter Pope, Miss Rebecca who tenderly cared for her aged mother till death came to her relief: Mrs William Hager and Charles S all of Garrett Co; Mrs William Hunter, Mrs Clara Boettner, Calvin L of Frostburg and George W of Confluence, Pa. One son (Thomas) preceded her to the spirit land a few years ago. Mrs Michael was a true woman in every sense of the word, a sincere Christian, an affectionate wife and mother and a good neighbor. Her greatest care was always her home and family and their welfare her greatest aim. The pallbearers were her grandchildren: George Pope, George Turner, William and Frank Turner, Charles Boettner and Grover Michael. Mr Michael and family have the sincere sympathy of their many friends and neighbors in their sad bereavement.

Ernest Quinton Michael, 73, a retired farmer, died yesterday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Gladstone Broadwater, Baltimore Pike, where he resided the past two years. A native of Avilton, Garrett county, he was a son of the late William and Elizah (Reckner) Michael. His wife, the late Maggie Sarah (Llewellyn) Michael, died September 23, 1948. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Broadwater; Mrs. Mary Wampler, and Mrs. Lillie McKenzie, Frostburg; Mrs. Wilda Minnich, Avilton; six sons; Henry P. Michael, Frostburg; Walter O. Michael, Lorain, Ohio; David O. Michael, Vernon L. Michael, Takoma Park; Charles H. Michael, Baltimore, and Stewart W. Michael, city; a brother, Forrest Michael, Frostburg; and 16 grandchildren. The body is at the Winterberg Funeral Home, Grantsville.

Forest O. Michael, 72, was stricken suddenly Sunday at his home, 9 miles west of Frostburg on Route 40, and died enroute to Miners Hospital. He was a son of the late William H. and Eliza E. (Reckner) Michael, Garrett County. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Margaret (Layman) Michael; two sons, Julius Michael, Finzel,  and Stanley C. Michael, Vallejo, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Morris Beachey, Grantsville, and Mrs. Harold Duckworth, Westminster, and eight grandchildren. He was a member of the Mt. Zion Methodist Church and Lodge 49, Jr. O.U.A.M., Cumberland. The body is at the residence. Services will be held tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. in Mt. Zion Church, Route 40, with Dr. Ross Linger, Romney, W. Va., officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

“Funeral services for Lewis P. Michael, 88, formerly of 102 South Mineral street, who died Friday at Hopemont State hospital, Terra Alta, were conducted Monday at the Markwood Funeral home, Keyser.
Interment was in Meadow Point Cemetery, Keyser. Officiating at the services was the Rev. Harry P. Light, pastor of the Grace Methodist church. A native of Westernport, he was a son of the late George L. and Rebecca (Jenkins) Michael. His wife, Ida Belle (Kight) preceded him in death last year.  Mr. Michael was a retired agent for the Equitable Life Insurance Co., and was a member of Grace United Methodist church, Keyser.  Surviving are a son, George I. Michael, Minneapolis, Minn., and two grandsons, Lt. Cdr. George I. Michael, Jr., with the Navy in Washington and Lt. David R. Michael, K 1 Swayer AFB, Mich.”

AVILTON — Mrs. Maggie Michael, 68, wife of Ernest Q. Michael, died yesterday in Allegany Hospital, where she had been a patient since last Friday. Born near Gilmore, Mrs. Michael was a daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (McKenzie) Llewellyn. Surviving, besides her husband, are six sons, Henry Michael, Avilton; Walter and Charles Michael and Stuart Michael, all of Cumberland; David Michael, Washington; and Vernon Michael, stationed with the U.S. Army in Virginia; four daughters, Mrs. Lillie McKenzie, Frostburg; Mrs. Lottie Broadwater, Cumberland; Mrs. Mary Wampler, Avilton, and Mrs. Wilda Minnick, Finzel; two sisters, Mrs. Lottie Hickman, Leroy, W. Va., and Mrs. Lily Grindle, Lonaconing; a brother, Walter Llewellyn, Romney, W. Va., and 15 grandchildren. The body is at the Winterberg Funeral Home, Grantsville. Services, will be conducted Sunday at 1:30 p.m., in Mt. Zion Methodist Church there with interment in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Edgar N. Michael, a prominent citizen of Frostburg, died Sunday at her residence in that place. The death of her daughter, Miss Mary, was announced in the Times Saturday, which event no doubt hastened the demise of the mother. Mrs. Michael is survived by her husband and the following children: Misses Icy, Golda and Margaret and Mrs. Roy Jeffries and Mrs. Adam Brode. The funeral will take place Wednesday at 2 p.m.

Grantsville - Mrs. Margaret Louise Michael, 90 of Star Route, Frostburg, died yesterday in Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.  A native of Garrett County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas H. and Elizabeth (Pope) Layman.  Her husband, Forest Michael, preceded her in death.  Mrs. Michael was a member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and the WSCS of the church.  Surviving are two sons, Julius Michael, Meyersdale, and Stanley Michael, Vallejo, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Mildred Beachy, Grantsville; and Mrs. Helen Duckworth, Westminster; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  The body is at the Newman Funeral Home here where friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. and tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted at the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Saturday at 2 p.m. Rev. Paul Lovejoy will officiate and interment will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery. The body will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Paw Paw, W. Va. -- Mrs. Nellie Michael, 65, of Charlottesville, Va., died suddenly Wednesday in Arlington, Va. A ntive of Morgan County, she was a daughter of the late Robert H. and Mary (Barney) Stotler. Her husband, C. J. Michael, died January 28. She is survived by four sons, Charles, Harold and Francis, all of Arlington, and Phillip Michael, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; four sisters, Mrs. Fredda Michael, Berkeley Springs; Mrs. Bessie Kidwell and Mrs. Ruth Bradfield, both of here, and Mrs. Mary Kidwell, Washington, Pa.; two brothers, Stanley, of here, and Raymond Stotler, Millville; 10 grandchildren and a great-grandchild. FROSTBURG - Mrs. Nettie Mae Michael, 85, of Star Route, Frostburg, died yesterday at the home of her niece, Mrs. Glenn Durst, with whom she resided. Born in Garrett County, she was a daughter of the late David and Elizabeth (Bonig) Pope. Her husband, Cecil Michael, died in 1950. She was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and the WSCS of the church. Surviving are a brother, Herbert Pope, Star Route, Frostburg, and a sister, Mrs. Minnie Merrill, Star Route, Frostburg. Friends will be received at the Hafer Frost Mansion Funeral Home tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted in the funeral home Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Earl Harper and the Rev. Sadie Triplett will officiate and interment will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Harry Pope, Wilfred Crowe, Scott Pope and Odell Layman. "Five Men Killed in Auto Accident-
Funeral services were held yesterday for five young men of the community who were killed early Sunday morning in an automobile accident on the McMullen highway, route 220, about ten miles this side of Cumberland.
Fatally injured in the accident were Timothy Gilmore, 32, Westernport, former state trooper, who was driving the car, Charles Lee Kalbaugh, 28, Piedmont, and his brother, Earl Glenn Kalbaugh, Westernport, Richard Daniel Moran, 25, Westernport, owner of the car, Richard Allen Michael, 25, Westernport. Services for Richard Allen Michael were conducted yesterday morning at 11 o'clock at the Evangelical United Brethren Church by the Rev. Lee Sheaffer, pastor. Joint rites for Charles Lee and Earl Glenn Kalbaugh, were held at the Boal funeral home yesterday at 1:30 o'clock with the Rev. George Davison, rector of St. James Episcopal church, Westernport, and the Rev. G. Stanley Schwind, former rector, now at St. George's church, Mt. Savage. Services for Timothy Gilmore were conducted at his residence, 122 Johnson street, Westernport, at three o'clock by the Rev. Lee Scheaffer, pastor of the EUB church. Rites for Richard D. Moran were held at the home of his mother, Mrs. Sarah Moran, 215 Hammond street, at 4:30 o'clock with the Rev. Clyde W. Ash,
pastor at Trinity Methodist Church, officiating.

Accord Military Honors-
Full military honors were accorded for Michael, the Kalbaughs, and Gilmore, by Victory Post 155, American Legion, assisted by Barton Post 189 and Kelly-Mansfield Post 52 of Piedmont. Potomac Fire Company conducted rites at the graves at Philos cemetery for Charles Kalbaugh, Michael, Gilmore and Moran. Members of Potomac Fire Company and Tri-Towns Fire Company in uniform attended all five funerals.

Timothy Gilmore-A native of Thomas, Timothy Gilmore was a son of Mrs. Grace Shaffer Gilmore, Oakland and the late Timothy M. Gilmore. He spent most of his earlier youth in Crellin and and was a graduate of Oakland high school. During World War II, he served as a tank driver with the Army in Africa and Italy and was wounded in the chest. After the war, he served six years with the Maryland State Police, resigning last February to become a guard at the Allegany Ballistics lab at Pinto. He was a member of Victory Post, American Legion, and Potomac Fire Company. Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Guy Gilmore, 122 Johnson Street, Westernport; three brothers, Harold Gilmore, Webster Springs, W. Va.; John W. Gilmore, Layfayette, Indiana, and Glenn Gilmore, Terra Alta and two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Kershetaky, Delano, Pa., and Mrs. Hazel Parsons, Hambleton, W. Va.

Richard D. Moran, son of Mrs. Sarah Moran and the late Edward S. Moran, former mayor of Westernport, was a native of the town and a graduate of Bruce high school. He was a manager of the Moran Trucking Company in which he was associated with his brothers. He was a member of Trinity Methodist Church and Potomac Fire company. Besides his mother, he leaves four brothers, Charles, James, Harold and Donald, all of Westernport.

Richard A. Michael, son of Mrs. Annie Virginia Kline Michael and the late Bayard Michael, is also a native of Westernport and attended Bruce high school. During World War II he served two years aboard an aircraft carrier in the Pacific theatre. A member and sergeant-at-arms of Potomac Fire company, he was employed as a steward at the Potomac club. Besides his mother, he leaves four brothers, Marshall, Clyde, Thomas and Paul, all of Westernport, and two sisters, Mrs. Charles Floto, Cumberland, and Mrs. Oliver Long, Arlington, Va.

Police Version of Accident-

The accident occurred about 4:52 Sunday morning. The time was established by a broken watch on the wrist of Richard Moran. Trooper First Class, A. M. Sploch, of the Maryland State Police, who investigated, said that Gilmore, driving Moran's 1951 hardtop convertible, had just rounded a bend and apparently was confused by the headlights of another vehicle parked along Gilmore's side of the road. Apparently thinking the recently relocated road lay to the right of the headlights, Gilmore swerved off the road onto a gravel shoulder. By the time he realized his mistake, it was too late to stop. The car skidded several hundred feet, careened back to the road, and smashed against the front of the parked car. Four of the victims were thrown from the car with only Earl Kalbaugh and Richard Michael still in the back seat. Sploch said all of the dead except Charles Kalbaugh died instantly. Witnesses said Kalbaugh called for help then crawled under a fence at the George M. Barton farm and died of internal injuries. Dr. H. V. Deming, deputy county medical examiner, said the others died of skull fractures, internal injuries and neck fractures.

James. F. Thompson, the sixth occupant, was thrown from the vehicle and later was moved to Sacred Heart hospital, Cumberland, where he is recovering from his injuries.

Occupant of Parked Car Hurt.

Miss Joreetta Proudfoot, 21, of Rowlesburg, the only occupant of the parked car, sustained severe lacerations of the face and eyes when her head was thrown through the windshield by the impact. She told police she had been drowsy and thought she was dreaming when she saw the other car careening wildly towards her. Lewis H. Allwine, 24, of Highland, N. J., operator of the parked car, stated that he and his brother, Ernest, had pulled off to the left side of the road when they were flagged by Wilbur Fresh, a stranded motorist, of Akron, O., who had developed engine trouble. Gilmore's wife, Mrs. Betty Guy Gilmore, arrived at the scene of the accident about two hours later, unaware of her husband's death. Police said she was anxious over her husband's failure to return home and she stopped at the scene as officers were preparing to leave."

CUMBERLAND - Stewart W. “Mike” Michael, 73, of 12 Marion Street died Sunday, Feb. 9, 1992 at Memorial Hospital. Born Oct. 23, 1918 in Avilton he was the son of the late Ernest Quentin and Maggie Sarah (Llewellyn) Michael. He was retired from the Ha-joca Corporation where he was a sales clerk, and was a member of the Teamsters Union 501 and of the Methodist faith. Survivors include his wife, Hortense Peggy Michael; one son, Ronald Wendell Michael, Hyndman, Pa.; one daughter, Diana Lee Frankfort, LaVale; two brothers, David Michael, Takoma Park; Charles Michael, Waterview, Va.; two sisters, Wilda Minick, Avilton; Mary Wampler, Vale Summit; three grandsons, Ronnie Wayne Michael; Troy Darin Michael and Eric Allen Michael; three granddaughters, Shanda Janell Frankfort; Angela Dawn Frankfort and Anita Marie Frankfort; one great-granddaughter and one great-grandson. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home on Virginia Avenue. Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 1:30 by the Rev. Michael Leedom. WESTERNPORT, Md. -- Sylvia Louise "Rosebud" Michael, 64, formerly of 313 Spruce St., Westernport, Md., dies Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001 at the Frostburg Village Nursing Home where she had been a resident for 14 years. Born on May 6, 1937 in Aaron's Run, Garrett County, Md., she was the daughter of the late Elmer R. and Ruth (Broadwater) Michael. Two brothers, Rober and Kenneth Michael; one sister, Edna Dayton; two brothers-in-lkaw, Rolland Nutter and Charles Dayton; and one sister-in-law, Ann O'Haver also preceded her in death. Miss Michael was a member of the Mt. Calvary Luthern Church, Westernport. She is survived by three sisters, Helen Keller and husband, Kenneth, Westernport, Alberta Nutter, Newe Lexington, Ohio, and Emily Ann Robinson and husband, Carol, Finksburg, Md.; one sister-in-law, Mildred Michael, Sharptown, Md.; and numerous neices and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Died at the residence of his father, Charles O Michael, near Johnson, Garrett Co, Md, on Monday morning, May 14, of neuralgia of the heart, Thomas Michael, aged about 24 years. The deceased young man was highly respected by all who knew him for his many sterling qualities. He leaves a father and mother, besides a number of brothers and sisters to mourn the loss of an affectionate son and brother. The funeral took place Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock from the residence. GRANTSVILLE — A 36-year-old Rockville man died of a heart attack Saturday night at the home of his sister near Grantsville, shortly after he returned from a hunting trip. He was Vernon Leslie Michael, who came from Rockville to stay with his sister, Mrs. Wilda Minnich, at Green Lantern Inn, while hunting deer in that area. Mr. Michael went out deer hunting Saturday, and when he returned, reported he did not want dinner, as he was not hungry. He went to his room where he was found gasping for breath a few minutes later. He died about 7 p.m. Dr. James H. Feaster, deputy medical examiner for Garrett County, reported that death resulted from coronary thrombosis. He was born in Avilton, a son of the late Ernest Quinton and Maggie (Llewellyn) Michael. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary (McKenzie) Michael; two sons, Larry and Dwaine Michael, at home; five brothers, Henry Michael, near Frostburg; Walter Michael, Amherst, Ohio; David Michael, Takoma Park; Stewart Michael, Cumberland; and Charles Michael, Baltimore; and three other sisters, Mrs. May Wampler and Mrs. Lillie McKenzie, Star Route, Frostburg, and Mrs. Charlotte Broadwater, Cumberland. A veteran of World War II, he was a cabinetmaker and moved from Grantsville to Rockville several years ago. The body is at the Newman Funera! Home, Grantsville. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in Mt. Zion Methodist Church. Rev. Emory McGraw, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery, with military rites by Grantsville Post 214, American Legion.

Grantsville - Walter Douglas Michael, 65, of 61 Red Ridge Lane, Grantsville, died Saturday, Dec. 28, 1996, at the Helena Hospital, Helena, Ark. Born Niov. 19, 1931, in Frostburg, he was a son of the late Edgar and Catherine (Glotfelty) Michael. Mr. Michael was a self-employed stone mason, operatin Michael Masonry. He wa a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Grantsville, where he served as a Sunday School teacher and former member of the church council. He was a U.S.Army veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, Callie J. (Whitson) Michael; a son, Ricky Michael, Frederick; three daughters, Donna Folk, Berryville, Va., Carolyn Kohler and Nancy Ruff, both of Grantsville; a brother, James Michael, Grantsville; a sister, Belva McKenzie, Westernport; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral HOme, Grantsville, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m with the Rev. David E. Walter O. Michael, 68, Amherst, Ohio, died Thursday in Elyria, Ohio, Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.  Born in Avilton, he was a son of the late Ernest and Maggie Llewellyn Michael.  He resided in Amherst since 1950 and was a retired assembler for the Fruehauf Trailer Company, where he had been employed for 20 years.  Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Inez Garlitz Michael; three daughters, Mrs. Alice Kelleher and Mrs. Wanda Garganz, both of Amherst, Mrs. Mary Ann Poole, South Amherst; four sisters, Mrs. Mary Wampler, Cumberland; Mrs. Lillie MacKenzie and Mrs. Wilda Minnick, both of Frostburg; Mrs. Charlotte Broadwater, Alabama; three brothers, David Michael, Takoma Park; Stewart Michael, Cumberland; Charles Michael, Tappahannock, Va.; and 14 grandchildren. A service was conducted Saturday morning in the Garland Funeral Home, Amherst.  Interment followed in the Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.

She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic church, Frostburg Surviving are six children, Mrs. Charles Norris and Francis Michaels, both of this city; Ambrose Michaels, of Hyndman, Pa.; Leroy Michaels, of Eckhart; and Bernard and James Michaels, at home; one sister, Mrs. John Frankfurt, of LaVale; three brothers, Frank and James Martin, both of Cash Valley; and Donald Martin, this city; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Bernard M. Michaels, 55, was found dead in his car at his home in Eckhart yesterday afternoon. Death was attributed to asphyxiation. Born in Eckhart, he was a son of the late Joseph and Annie (Martin) Michaels. His wife, Jane (Urbas) Michaels, preceded him in death. Mr. Michaels was an employe of Kelly-Springfield Tire Company and was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society and of the Piney Mountain Hunting Club. Mrs. Catherine Michaels, 76 years old, died at Sylvan Retreat, Cumberland, at 5 o'clock this morning. She is survived by six daughters, Mrs. A. L. Plummer, Frostburg; Mrs. John Atkinson, Borden; Mrs. James McGee, Gilmore; Mrs. Henry Herbaugh, Midland, and Misses Idella and Atlantic Michaels, of Cumberland. For the past few years Mrs. Michaels had made her home with her daughter in Frostburg. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Midland. The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon from the home of her daughter, Mrs. Henry Herbaugh, in Midland. Rev. W. E. Bird will officiate and burial will be in Old Coney Cemetery.

MICHAELS, Charles

Frostburg, Md. Sept. 9, Slate falling from the roof of the Cumberland Potomac Mine at Morristown, caused the death of Charles Michaels, aged 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Michaels, Wellersburg, yesterday afternoon at 3:15 o'clock. A number of miners were engaged with young Michaels in cutting coal with a machine when a portion of the roof gave way, a quantity of slate hitting him on the head fracturing the skull. An ugly scalp wound resulted. Pulsation was evident for twenty minutes before death without consciousness. Besides his parents young Michaels is survived by three brothers and seven sisters. He was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church at Mt. Savage and was one of the most popular young men in the Wellersburg section. He had been working but three weeks for the Cumberland Potomac Coal Company.

Cpl. Donald Lee Michaels, 20, Eckhart, died in Sacred Heart Hospital at 2:30 a.m. yesterday, as the result of an automobile accident. Cpl. Michaels had been in the Marine Corps two years and was home on leave after completing nine months in Vietnam. He was stationed at Camp Le Jeune, N.C. A native of Frostburg, Cpl. Michaels was born October 20, 1950, a son of James L. and Rachel S. (Beeman) Michaels. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. Besides his parents, he is survived by four brothers, Elija Michaels, Frostburg; and James, David, and John Michaels, all at home; and two sisters, Rachel and Rebecca Michaels, both at home. The body is at the Durst Funeral Home where the family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. and tomorrow from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A requiem mass will be celebrated tomorrow at 9:30 a.m in St. Michaels Church. A native of Finzel, she was a daughter of Mrs. Doll Baer and the late Bertrand Baer. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Pocahontas, Pa. Besides her husband and mother, she is survived by a daughter, Miss Margaret Michaels, at home; two sons, Joseph Michaels, at home, and Bertrand Michaels, stationed with the Army in Alaska; three sisters, Mrs. Odell Layman and Mrs. Beulah Wolford, Finzel Road, and Mrs. Charles Minnick, Cumberland; and one brother, Gerald Baer, Finzel. FROSTBURG — Elijah Harmon Michaels, 66, formerly of 40 Main St., Lonaconing, died Friday, April 12, 2013, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland. Born on March 30, 1947, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late James Michaels and Rachel (Beeman) Michaels. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Lee Michaels and David Michaels. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Frostburg. He had worked in construction for many years. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 44 years, Dorthea (Skidmore) Michaels, whom he married on May 29, 1969. He is also survived by his children, Tammy Michaels, of Finzel and her soul mate Greg Ritchie, of Gilmore, Patrick Michaels, of Midland and Donald Michaels, of Cresaptown; four grandchildren, Tiffany Crosby, of Finzel, Wade Crosby, of Finzel, Scott Broadwater, of Frostburg and Garrett Michaels, of Midland; two brothers, Johnny Michaels and Mary Lou Coleman, of Barton and James Michaels and wife Nancy, of Eckhart; two sisters, Becky Michaels, of Eckhart and Rachel Lewis and husband John, of West Virginia; one sister-in-law, Faye Michaels, of Frostburg and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 15, 2013, at 2 p.m. in the Trinity Assembly of God, Midlothian, with Pastor Rob Culler officiating. Westernport, MD - Frank Wayne Michaels, 62, of Baughman St., Westernport, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 2, 2012, at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland. Born May 21, 1950, in Westernport, he was the son of the late Luther and Rosie (Ross) Michaels. Wayne was a 1968 graduate of Bruce High School, and a graduate of Zion Bible College. He was a former Pastor of Greenridge Assembly of God Church. He attended both First Assembly of God Church, Westernport, and the Piedmont Pentecostal Holiness Church, Piedmont, WV. He leaves behind his wife, Mary (Dye) Michaels; a son, Richard Wayne Michaels of Canada; a daughter, Shelley Carson and husband Derick of Canada; a brother, Luther H. BARTON — Garv R. "Pickle” Michaels, 37, of 19023 North Eutaw St., Barton, died Monday, Sept. 15, 1997, at Barton. He was born on July 17, 1960, at Cumberland to Josephine (Wilson) Michaels, Barton, and the late Russell Michaels, Sr., who died in 1982. Mr. Michaels formerly worked as a logger for Custer Logging. Surviving in addition to his mother are two brothers, Russell E. Michaels, Jr., Virginia Beach, Va., and Roger D. Michaels, Falling Waters, W.Va.; two sisters, Virginia “Peachie” Mangold, Frostburg, and Crystal Leap and husband, Shawn, Barton; a grandmother, Hazel Wilson, Westernport; two nephews, David Mangold and Brandon Carr; one niece, Megan Michaels; and many, many friends. Friends will be received at Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton, on  Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted at Boal Memorial Chapel on Thursday at I p.m. with the Rev. Confluence - May 1 - George Michaels died at his late home Saturday afternoon after a brief illness of pneumonia. He was a son of Charles and Elizabeth Michaels of Frostburg and was born and reared in Garrett Co, Md. He was 52 years, two months and ten days old. He had been a resident of this place seven years and had made many friends who will greatly mourn his loss. He is survived by a widow and seven children, Mrs Robert Mease[sic, Meese], John and Charles Michaels of Connellsville; James, Edgar and Mabel at home and Robert of Ridgeley, W Va and four sisters and a brother: Mrs William Hunter, Mrs Sarah Pope, Mrs Clara Boettner and Miss Clara Michaels, Frostburg, Charles Michaels and his father, Charles Michaels, Frostburg. He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, this place and was always a devoted Christian. Funeral services at the Lutheran church 10 o'clock Monday by Rev B B Collins, Meyersdale.

Mr. and Mrs. James Bradley, of Ridgeley, were called by telegram, to Confluence. Pa., by the death of a brother-in-law, Mr. George Michaels, on May 1, who died suddenly of pneumonia. His wife died five years ago. Mrs. Bradley has had one of the children since the mother's death, and now has one of the boys, aged 16. One son and one daughter have gone to Frostburg to live with an aunt and an uncle, Mrs. Wm. Hunter and Charles Michaels. They leave three grown children: Mrs. Robert Meese and Charles and John Michaels. The latter is a brakeman on the B. &. O. between Cumberland and Connellsville.

ECKHART - James B. Michaels, 49, of Eckhart, was dead on arrival Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1993, at Frostburg Hospital. Born Nov. 15, 1943, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Clarence and Kathryn (Sullivan) Michaels. Mr. Michaels was a former employee of the Celanese. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Sandy Crossing Hunting Club in Pennsylvania and the Piney Mountain Coon Club. Surviving are his wife, Bonnie (Gordon) Michaels; one son, James C. Michaels, at home; one daughter, Yvonne Michaels, Standardsville, Va.; two brothers, Stephen T. Michaels, Eckhart; and John D. Michaels, Omaha, Neb; and his step-mother, Pauline Telford Michaels, Frostburg. Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted Thursday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home by Msgr. John L. Reinsfelder. Interment will be in Porter Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Stephen Michaels, Jimmy Broadwater, Jim Broadwater, Tom Montgomery, Eugene Michaels and Peter Folk.

MICHAELS, James Harmon

Frostburg, Dec. 3 — Pinioned under a rock fall yesterday in a small fuel mine at Barrellville, this county, James Harmon Michaels, 40, of Wellersburg, Pa., died at 2 a.m. today in Miners Hospital. He suffered internal injuries and a fractured pelvis. Michaels was working with the mine owner, Melvin Reed, Barrelville, when the section of roof caved in. Reed summoned other miners, who extricated the injured man, and took him to his home, where he was examined by Dr. Henry J. Bostetler, Mt. Savage, and then taken to the hospital. District Mine Inspector Frank T. Powers said today that he believed the man's injuries were aggravated by the fact that no ambulance was used to carry Michaels, who was taken home and to the hospital in automobiles. Powers also commented that accidents in small mines are increasing because proper supervision is lacking. The Reed operation is known as the Parker High Grade Mine and six men are employed. Michaels is survived by his widow, Mrs. Rosalie (Saylor) Michaels; his mother, Mrs. Peter Michaels, Barrelville; a daughter, Dawn; two brothers, Wilbert, of Barrelville, and Tony Michaels, of Akron, O.; and three sisters. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Sunday at the home, near Wellersburg, with interment in the Lutheran Cemetery there.

FROSTBURG — Mrs. Jane E. Michaels, 51, Eckhart, died yesterday at Western Maryland Hospital, Hagerstown, where she had been a patient four weeks. She had been in failing health the past six months. Born in Vale Summit, she was a daughter of the late Anton and Teresa (Lichar) Urbas. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. Surviving are her husband, Bernard Michaels; two daughters, Mrs. Richard Atkinson, Eckhart; Mrs. Alfred Vizza Jr., here; a son, Eugene J. Michaels, at home; eight sisters, Mrs. Anne Stakem, Mrs. Rose McGowan, Midland; Mrs. Gerald McKenzie, Star Route, Frostburg; Mrs. William P. Kelley, Lonaconing; Mrs. Guy Hardesty, Salisbury, Pa.; Mrs. Leo Arnold, Vale Summit; Mrs. Mahlon Warnick, New Germany; Mrs. Robert McKinley, Hagerstown; four brothers, Anton Urbas, Vale Summit; Frank Urbas, Eckhart; John Urbas, Pocahontas; William Urbas, Midland; and two grandchildren. The body is at the Durst Funeral Home where friends will be received today from 7 until 9 p. m. and tomorrow from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9 p. m. Requiem mass will be celebrated Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Michael's Catholic Church. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Rosary will be recited in the funeral home tomorrow at 8 p.m.

Frostburg, Oct. 7 — Joseph Michaels, 80, Frog Hollow, Eckhart, died Sunday morning, following a lingering illness. A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Harmon Michaels, pioneer residents, he was engaged as a farmer for many years. Surviving are his wife, the former Anna Martin, and six children, Mrs. Charles B. Norris, Francis and Leroy Michaels, Cumberland; Ambrose, Hyndman, Pa.; and James and Bernard, at home. He was a brother of Mrs. John Apple, Cumberland, and Mrs. James Logsdon, and William and Henry Michaels, Eckhart. Mr. Michaels was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. The men of the church will assemble at the residence Tuesday following the Forty Hours Devotion service for recitation of the Rosary.

FROSTBURG — Mrs. Kathryn Michaels, wife of Clarence Michaels, Eckhart, died last night in Sacred Heart Hospital following an illness of two years. Born at Kitzmiller, she was a daughter of Mrs. Mary I. (Calhoun) Solomon, Eckhart, and the late Walter Solomon. Mrs. Michaels was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. Surviving, besides her husband and mother, are three sons, Stephen and James B. Michaels, both of Eckhart, and John D. Michaels, with the Army at Fort Storey, Va.; two sisters, Mrs. Nina Lybrant, Cumberland, and Mrs. Violet Michaels, Eckhart, and three grandchildren. The body is at the Hafer-Sowers Funeral Home where friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. and tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The rosary will be recited at the funeral home tomorrow at 7:30 p. m.

Frostburg-Md. March 27— The funeral of Lewis Calvin Michaels, aged 71 years, who died Friday at his home, 240 Center street, was held Sunday at the Johnson M. E. Church, on the National Road west of here with interment there. Surviving is his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Michaels, one son, Frank Michaels, four daughters. Mrs Alice Hardon and Mrs Marie Plunkett this city; Mrs. Jennie Dumire, Fredericktown, Pa and Mrs. Pearl Clem, Keyser, WVa: one brother, Charles Michaels. La Vale. Md., and two sisters, Mrs. Etta Hunter, this city, and Mrs. Clara Bittner(Boettner), Pittsburgh. MICHAELS, Miss Mary

Miss Mary Michaels, aged 26 years, the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar N. Michaels, died at the home of her parents om West Main street early Friday morning, after a week's illness from pneumonia. Miss Mary was taken ill on Friday of last week and during the early part of this week it was thought she was improving, but coomplications developed from which she could get no relief, and as stated above, death relieved her suffering. The deceased was highly respected in this community, having a kind and loving personality; she was particularly devoted to her father and mother, who will feel her loss keenly. She is survived by her parents and the following sisters, Misses Icy, Goldie, Margaret, Mrs. Roy Jeffries and Mrs. Adam Brode, all of Frostburg. Owing to the serious illness of Mrs. Michaels, the funeral will be strictly private at an hour not yet stated.

FROSTBURG - Mrs. Nora E. (Rarick) Michaels, 82, wife of William F. Michaels, Eckhart, died last night in Miners Hospital. She had been in ill health for eight weeks. Mrs. Michaels was a daughter of the late Peter Rarick and the late Emma Rarick McAtee of Mt. Savage. She is the last surviving member of her family. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and the Sodality. Surviving besides her husband are two sons, Earl T. and Joseph R. Michaels, of Eckhart; two daughters, Mrs. John Davis and Mrs. Thomas Kenney, both of Eckhart. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The body is at the Hafer Funeral Home where friends will be received from 2 to 4 p. m. and 7 to 9 p. m. today and tomorrow. The sodality will recite the Rosary at the funeral home tomorrow at 8 p. m. A requiem mass will be celebrated Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Michael's church, and interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Born in Ohiopyle, Pa., he was a son of the late Marion and Sarah Ellen Michaels and was a member of Sand Spring Church of God. Surviving are his widow, Laura (Sines) Michaels; six sons, Earl Michaels Jr., and Donald Michaels, Campbell, Ohio; Robert E., John W., and Orville Michaels, here, and Samuel R. Michaels with the army at Fort Stewart, Ga.; a stepson, James Sines, here; three daughters, Mrs. Lula Turner, Ohiopyle; Mrs. Mae Sines, Sang Run, and Mrs. Susan Sidebottom, Albright, W. Va., and 31 grandchildren. **The body is at the Newman until 4 and 7 until 9 p.m. A service will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. at Sand Spring Church by Rev. Howard Pentz. Burial will be in Sand Spring Cemetery.

- FROSTBURG - Rachel Susan (Beeman) Michaels, of Frostburg, died Friday, April 2, 2010, at her home residence. Born Dec. 3, 1921, in Gilmore, Rachel is the daughter of the late Elijah M. Beeman and Clara Clise Beeman. She was also preceded in death by her husband James Michaels; her two sons, Donald Michaels and David Michaels; one great-grandchild, Shandi Kesner; her four sisters, Mary Walters, Goldie Richardson, Matilda Rowe, and Bessy Williams; and two brothers, Harry Beeman and Wilbert Beeman. Mrs. Michaels was a homemaker, a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a member the LaVale Assembly of God. Rachel is survived by her daughter, Rebecca (Becky) Michaels, who she lived with and was cared for by in the last years of her life; three sons, Elijah Michaels and wife Dorothy, James Michaels and wife Nancy, and John Michaels and friend Mary Lou; another daughter, Rachel Lewis and husband John; one daughter-in-law, Georgia Michaels; twelve grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; 7 stepgreat-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A special thanks to Allison and Norman Wood for wonderful care over the years. To all the wonderful caregivers including Linda DeVore, Sharon Bishop, and Teri Shives. Also, thanks to Hospice in her final days and ProCare Home Health, and BMA for providing her caregivers. ECKHART — Violet Ruth "Dot" Michaels, 101, of Eckhart, died on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at Frostburg Village Nursing Center. Born in Kitzmiller on Dec. 9, 1907, she was the daughter of the late John Walter and Mary Isa (Calhoun) Solomon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph R. Michaels; a daughter, Joan Albright; and one great-great-granddaughter, Aleigh. Mrs. Michaels was an avid bingo player. She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Yost and husband Curtis, Eckhart, and Linda Alkire and husband Timothy, Eckhart; two sons, John Robert "Bob" and daughter-in-law, Jan, LaVale, and Larry T. Michaels and wife Sandi, Hagerstown; son-in-law, Charles Albright; grandsons, Shawn Alkire, Jeffrey Alkire, Stephen Albright, John R. OCALA, Fla. — Waneta Lorraine (Crowe) Michaels, 60, formerly of LaVale, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at her home in Ocala. She was born on April 8, 1952, and was the daughter of the late Paul E. and Evelyn L. (Swan) Crowe. Waneta is survived by her husband, Kenneth F. Michaels, of Ocala; daughters, Shanna Moses and husband Dwayne, of Alexandria, Va. and Heather Ott and husband James, of Fort Hood, Texas; grandchildren, Shawn, Colin and Audrey Moses and Brittany, James and Madison Ott; uncle and aunt, Carl Crowe and wife Marion, of Winter Haven, Fla., and many Swan and Crowe cousins. She was a 1971 graduate of Allegany High School in Cumberland. At Waneta’s request, she was cremated. A funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Cumberland on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. with burial in the Laurel Hills Cemetery in Barton immediately following. ECKHART - William F. Michaels, 88, died this morning at his home following a brief illness. A son of the late Harmon and Catherine (Herman) Michaels, he held membership in St. Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg, and the Holy Name Society of the parish. His wife, Mrs. Nora E.(Rarick) Michaels, died last Monday. Surviving are two sons, Earl and Joseph Michaels; two daughters, Mrs. John Davis and Mrs. Thomas Kenney, all of Eckhart, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The body will be at the Hafer Funeral Home where the family will recee friends tomorrow and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p. m.
