NULL, Mrs. Daisy Leona Haines (abridged)
FORT ASHBY, W.Va. — Daisy Leona (Haines) Null, 86, of Fort Ashby, died Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009 at Caton Merchant Assisting Living, Manassas, Va. Born Aug. 19, 1923 in Green Spring, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late John and Nellie (Simmons) Haines. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Edward Null Sr. She was a graduate of Romney High School. Daisy raised four children with her husband, living the nomadic Army life in Germany, Europe, California and several states on the East Coast. She and her husband retired and moved back to the “Hills of West Virginia” in 1977. Survivors include her two daughters, Dena Mosser and husband Wayne, Spotsylvania, Va., and Karen Stanley and husband John, Manassas; two sons, Ed Null and wife Debbie, Manassas, and Keith Null and wife Kathy, Ashburn, Va.; seven grandchildren and two great-granddaughters; one brother, Kenneth Haines, Brooklyn, N.Y.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Fort Ashby, on Monday from 11 a.m. until noon. The funeral service will follow at noon in the funeral home with the Rev. Martha Ognibene officiating. Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery.

NULL, Mrs. Emma Francis Burkett
Mrs. Emma Francis Null, 87, widow of John Null, died yesterday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Marilyn Logsdon, 2 Silver Street, Ridgeley. She was born in Cooks Mills, Pa., a daughter of Josiah and Rebecca (Baker) Burkett. Besides Mrs. Logsdon, she is survived by three other daughters, Mrs. Mary Snider, this city; Mrs. Florence Barnett, Marysville, Pa.; and Mrs. June Stein, Ridgeley; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Effie Huff, this city; four sons, Joseph Null, Howard Null and Kenneth Null, all of Ridgeley, and John Null, this city; a stepson, Wilmer Null, Ellerslie; a sister, Mrs. Grace Snider, this city, 17 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. The body is at the Stein Funeral Home where services will be conducted tomorrow at 2 p.m. by Rev. Harold L. May, pastor of Calvary Methodist Church, Ridgeley. Interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

NULL, Mrs. Esther Beatrice Malone
CUMBERLAND — Esther Beatrice Null, 87, of Fort Ashby, died Monday, Feb. 21, 1994, at Memorial Hospital. Born Feb. 11, 1907, in Alaska, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Jacob E. and Lena Frances (Broome) Malone. She was also preceded in death by one son, Bruce Null. Mrs. Null had joined Calvary United Methodist Church. Surviving are one son, Gerald J. Null, and wife Erna, Marco Island, Fla.; one daughter-in-law, Daisy Null, Fort Ashby; one sister, Wilda Frances Pownall, Finksburg, Md.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Fort Ashby Funeral Home on Tuesday. Services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home by the Rev. Sumner Sawyers. Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery.

Joseph B. Null, 71, of 38 Potomac Street, Ridgeley, died Monday at Memorial Hospital. Born in Westernport, he was the son of the late John and Emma (Burkett) Null and was a retired brakeman for the Western Maryland Railway. He was a veteran of World War II and was a member of Knobley Mountain Post 136 American Legion, and the Ridgeley Rod and Gun Club. Surviving are his widow, Madeline (Canan) Null; two sons, Gerald Null and Bruce Null, both of Manassas, Va.; one stepson, Myrl Zimmers, Ridgeley; two daughters, Mrs. Charlyne Keller and Mrs. Patricia Keller, both of Cumberland; two brothers, John Null, here, and Kenneth Null, Ridgeley; four sisters, Mrs. May Valentine, Mrs. Maryland Logsdon and Mrs. June Stein, all of Ridgeley, and Mrs. Florence Barnett, Pennsylvania; one stepsister, Mrs. Effie Huff, Cumberland; four grandchildren and seven stepgrandchildren. The body is at the Stein Funeral Home where friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p. m. A service will be conducted there tomorrow at 2 p.m. by Rev. Ronald R. Winterberg. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

NULL, Kenneth Raymond
Kenneth Raymond Null, 65, of 182 Main Street, Ridgeley, was dead on arrival yesterday at Sacred Heart Hospital. Born in Ridgeley, he was a son of the late John and Emma (Burkett) Null. His wife. Thelma (Collins) Null, preceded him in death. A retired construction worker, he was a member of Laborers International Union of North America and Calvary United Methodist Church. Surviving are a brother, John F. Null, city; three sisters, Mrs. May Valentine, Mrs. June Stein, city, and Mrs. Maryland Logsdon, Ridgeley. The body is at the Leasure-Stein Funeral Home, where friends will be received today from 7 until 9 p.m. and tomorrow from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9 p.m.

NULL, Mrs Mary Edith Kelly
Mrs. Mary Edith Null, 78, of 319 Homer Street, died yesterday in St. Joseph's Hospital, Baltimore. Born November 7, 1896 in Madley, Pa., she was a daughter of the late John A. and Laura J. (Oster) Kelly. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Semper Fidelis Class, Dames of Malta, Mapleside Homemakers Club, Senior Citizens, Golden Agers, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Brotherhood of the B & O Firemen and Engineers. Her husband, Wilmer A. Null, died in 1970. Surviving are one son, Gerald Null, Hagerstown; five daughters, Mrs. Arnada Chedester, Mrs. Georgia Nimick, Mrs. Lorrayne Soethe and Mrs. Jeanne Brode, all of Baltimore, and Mrs. Shirley Goss, this city; 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, and one niece. Friends will be received in the Scarpelli Funeral Home today and Sunday.

Mrs. Thelma Mae Null, 45, of 182 Main Street, Ridgeley, was dead on arrival yesterday at Sacred Heart Hospital. Born in Cumberland, she was a daughter of Elvira (Long) Collins and the late Ralph Collins. She was a member of Ridgeley United Methodist Church. Surviving are her husband, Kenneth R. Null; one son, Lennie Welsh, Delaware; one daughter, Mrs. Patricia Clark, Millerdale, W.Va.; two brothers, Eddie Collins, this city, and Roy Collins, Baltimore; four sisters, Mrs. Ada Lashley, Mrs. Joan Kalbaugh and Miss Caroline Collins, city; and Mrs. Virginia Burris, Baltimore; and two grandchildren. The body is at the Stein Funeral Home. Services will be conducted there at 2 p.m. Tuesday by Rev. Ronald R. Winterberg. Interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

“Graveside services for Harold Lewis Nutter, three-day-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Rolland Nutter, who died Tuesday, Sept. 14, in Good Samaritan Hospital, Lexington, Ohio, were held Thursday, Sept. 16, in Maplewood cemetery, New Lexington. Rev. G. C. Nutter, the infant’s uncle, officiated. Besides his parents, he is survived by a sister, Karen Marie, at home. Mrs. Nutter is the former Alberta Michael, daughter of Elmer R. Michael, McCoole.”

NUTTER, Jonathan
"Elk Garden--Mr. Jonathon Nutter, an old and very widely known citizen among our mining population, died at his residence on Franklin Hill on Saturday last. He was in his 66th year of age and had been a residence of this community off and on for the last twenty years or more. He leaves a wife and two daughters, one of them being Mrs. William Ahern of Westernport. The interment was in Philos cemetery, the Rev. L.B. Browne officiating."

NUZUM, A. J.
Mr A.J. Nuzum, late postmaster of Grafton, but of late manager of Fax Landstreet Co's stores at Coketon and Thomas, died Sunday night at his home at Coketon of pneumonia. His remains were taken to Grafton for burial.
