RICE, son of James

Young Rice, who was killed at Brunswick on Saturday by being run over by the cars, is the fourth victim to railroads. His father, James Rice ran over one of his sons and killed him. He afterwards, in oiling his engine while in motion, fell and was killed. Then another son was killed between here and Grafton. Certainly they have been an unfortunate family.

RICHARDSON, Miss Ella Fern

Tragedy struck early today on Route 40 near Frostburg when a 25-year-old local school teacher who planned to wed soon was fatally hurt in an automobile crash while returning home from a funeral. The accident occurred at 1 a.m on Sand Spring Hill, a half-mile west of the "Mountain City". State Police reported Miss Ella Fern Richardson, daughter of John V. and Lulu (Michael) Richardson, 57 Park Avenue, Frostburg, died less than three hours later in Miners Hospital there. She was a member of the Pennsylvania Avenue School faculty. Her fiance, Daniel J. Folk, Jr., 27, Grantsville, driver of their eastbound car which crashed against guard rails was treated at the hospital for a lip laceration. Their engagement was announced in the June 5 issue of the Sunday Times. The couple had been to Grantsville, visiting friends and attending services yesterday afternoon in nearby Casselman Mennonite Church for Robert D. Jones, 26, who died Saturday as the result of a construction mishap at Pleasant Hills, Pa. Trooper Donald Wade quoted Folk as saying he fell asleep at the wheel and the right side of his 1953 Dodge, where Miss Richardson was sitting, hit the rails. The vehicle was demolished. Victor Lemmert, Frostburg, who arrived at the scene shortly after thc accident, reported the young woman was thrown beneath the right front wheel of the machine. She complained of a "sore leg", although the only outward sign of injury was a facial laceration. An ambulance took her and Folk to the hospital. Miss Richardson's death at 3:45 was attributed to internal injuries. In addition to cuts and bruises, she suffered a fractured pelvis and broken leg. An autopsy was performed.  A native of Frostburg, Miss Richardson was graduated from Beall High School in 1948 and from Frostburg State Teachers College in 1952. At college she was a member of the Little Theater for two years, the Maryland Singers for three years, the Women's Recreation Association and the Future Teachers of America for two years. She served as secretary of the Arts Department in her junior year. Miss Richardson was active in religious circles, having been a member of First Methodist Church, Frostburg. Survivors include a brother, Frank Richardson, LaVale, and a sister, Charlotte, at home. The body is at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg.
