ECKHART- Laura Jean (Stark) Saathoff, 85, of Eckhart, died Sunday, May 4, 2008, at her home in Eckhart. Born March 26, 1923, in Eckhart, she was the daughter of the late Henry M. and Clara M. (Snyder) Stark. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Saathoff. Mrs. Saathoff was a 1941 graduate of Beall High School. She was a member of the Eckhart Methodist Church, the Eckhart Methodist Church Choir, Ladies Aid Society, and the Homemakers. Surviving are her brother Jack Stark and wife Marquise, of Eckhart; and her sister, Mildred Pryor, of Eckhart. Friends will be received in the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., on Tuesday, May 6, 2008, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. George M. Harpold officiating. Interment will be in the Eckhart Cemetery.

The dead and their next-of-kin are: Pfc. David E. Bean, Sarah Bean, 517 Maryland Avenue; Pfc. Kenneth W. Crowe, William W. Crowe, Detmold Street, Lonaconing; Pfc Robert T. Meeks, Oscar D. Meeks, 35 Weber Street; Pvt. John F. Shroyer, George L. Shroyer, Ellerslie; Pvt. Warren E. Sams, Asa S. Sams, Mann's Choice, Pa., and Pfc Eugene G. Coleman, Harry P. Coleman, RFD 4, Berlin, Pa.  They are among the 4549 veterans aboard the transport. Sixty-four are Marylanders.

SAMPSON, Mrs. Edith I. Beal

Mrs. Edith I. Sampson, 78, of Fort Ashby, W.Va., died Sunday in Hopemount (W.Va.) Hospital where she had been a patient three years. Born at Dunbar, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Seneca Beal and Della (Dayton) Beal. Her husband, Milton R. Sampson, died in 1968. Mrs. Sampson attended Dennison Community Church, Fort Ashby. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Colleen Cites, Hinkle Road; Mrs. Phyllis D. Leonard, Ohiopyle, Pa.; Mrs. Dorothy Shaw, Lindsay, Ohio; Mrs. Carolyn J. Orndorff, Springfield, W. Va.; Mrs. Barbara L. Webb, Goochland, Va.; three sons, Oliver K. Sampson, Elizabeth, Pa.; William M. Sampson, Fort Ashby; Robert L. Sampson, Star Route, Fort Ashby; a brother, Clifford S. Beal, Dunbar; 19 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the George Funeral Home today and tomorrow. Services will be conducted Thursday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home by Rev. Andrew Gathany, pastor of the Berean Independent Baptist Church. Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery.

FORT ASHBY, W.Va. — Joyce Ann Sampson, 53, of Fort Ashby, died Saturday, Sept. 2, 1995, at Sacred Heart Hospital. Born Jan. 19, 1942, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of Earl B. Wolford of Fort Ashby and the late Loretta B. (Corbin) Wolford. Mrs. Sampson was a homemaker and a member of the Berean Independent Baptist Church, Fort Ashby. In addition to her father she is survived by her stepmother, Hazel Wolford of Fort Ashby; her husband, Robert L. Sampson; a son, Matthew R. Sampson, at home; three daughters, Kimberly D. Walton and husband Kevin of Culpepper, Va., Christal A. Riley and husband Richard of Mount Savage, and Shelley S. Amo of Elkin, N.C.; one sister, Mary Jo Baldwin of Fort Ashby; a half brother, Bernard Wolford of Georgia, and four grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Fort Ashby Funeral Home on Sunday. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dana Umbel officiating. Interment will be in the Fort Ashby Cemetery.

SAMPSON, Milton R.

Milton R. Sampson, 66, of Dan's Run Road, Fort Ashby, died yesterday at Sacred Heart Hospital where he had been a patient since June 6. Born at Crimora, Va., he was a son of the late Charles A. and Gertrude J. (Marple) Sampson. Mr. Sampson was a retired B&O Railroad conductor and was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. He retired in 1965 after 45 years of service. Surviving are his widow, Edith I. (Dayton) Sampson; five daughters, Mrs. Colleen M. Sites, Hinkle Road; Mrs. Phyllis D. Leonard, Dunbar, Pa.; Mrs. Dorothy E. Malcolm, Fremont, Ohio; and Mrs. Carolyn J. Orndorff and Mrs. Barbara L. Webb, both of Richmond, Va.; three sons, Oliver K. Sampson, Pittsburgh; and Robert L. and William M. Sampson, both of Fort Ashby; two sisters, Mrs. Mae Marshall and Mrs. Minnie Doyle, both of Crimora, and four brothers, Melvin Sampson, Goshen, Va.; Mason Sampson, Waynesboro, Va.; Manford Sampson, Fredericksburg, Va., and Mervin Sampson, Lynhurst, Va.; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The body is at the George Funeral Home where friends will be received today and tomorrow. Services will be conducted on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lester Walker and Rev. Earl Wolford. Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery.

FROSTBURG, MD - Joan (Kreiling) Sands, 67, of Frostburg, died Sunday, December 14, 2003. She was a native of Frostburg and was the owner of Doobies, a bar in Philadelphia, Pa. Ms. Sands was the daughter of the late Kenneth Kreiling and Lillian (Dugan) Kreiling of Frostburg. Ms. Sands is survived by her husband, William H. Russell; her daughter, Patricia Brett and husband, Preston Jerrybandan of Philadelphia; her son, William Brett and his wife, Valerie, of Harrisonburg, VA; her stepchildren: Stacie Mantle and her husband, Stephen, of Abington, PA., and William Russell of Horsham, PA; and her four grandchildren, William, Holly, Eric and Chad. At the request of the deceased, there will be no services. Bertha Virginia Sanders, 84, Thomas, W.Va., formerly of Mtn. Lake Park, died Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, at Davis Memorial Hospital, Elkins, W.Va. Born Nov. 8, 1924, in Oakland, she was a daughter of the late Henry H. and Hattie (Auetwater) Davis. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thayer Walter Sanders. Mrs. Sanders was a homemaker, and she attended Oak Park Church of the Brethren. She was an avid bowler for 33 years. She is survived by one son, Eric Sanders, Oakland; four daughters, Ardis Teets, Eglon, W.Va., Helen Eberly, Cumberland, Karen Fint, Texas, and Lydia Dawson, Elkins; one sister, Hazel Phillippi, Oakland; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Friends were received at David A. Burdock Funeral Home, Oakland, where a service was conducted on Monday, Sept. 7, with the Rev. J. Rodgers Fike officiating. Interment followed in Oakland Cemetery.

Boyd Reed Sanders Jr., 83, Oakland, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, at Dennett Road Manor Nursing home, Oakland. Born May 20, 1920, in Oakland, he was a son of the late Boyd Reed Sanders Sr. and Winifred (Grimes) Sanders. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Carol Nace; one son, Barry Sanders; and an infant son, Marvin Sanders. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Oakland, and owned and operated Sanders Excavating Business for 20 years, and then worked for the McNally Corporation in the western states. He served in the V. S. Army's 175th Engineers Battalion in Italy during World War II, and was a member of Proctor Kildow Post #71, American Legion; Oakland. He is survived by his wife, Bernice Maxine Sanders; one daughter, Regina Sanders, Charlottesville, Va.; two brothers, Dale Sanders, Hampstead, and Jack Sanders, Waynesville, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. At his request, his body will be cremated. Friends will be received at the temporary home of the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, across from WalMart along V.S. Route 219, on Friday, Sept. 26, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9p.m. A service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at II a.m., with the Rev. T. Patrick Kerr officiating. The cremains will be interred in the Oakland Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded at the funeral.

Colin W. Sanders, 48, Oakland, died Sunday, May 26, 2002, as the result of an automobile accident near Rowlesburg, W. V a. See front page for story. Born Sept. 27, 1953, in Oakland, he was a son of the late Carlton C. Sanders, and Hazel G. (Upole) Sanders. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Red House. He was a farmer and a school bus contractor for the Garrett County Board of Education, driving bus #27, worked as a bus mechanic for Dale Evans, and was an animal control specialist. He was a member of the NRA, the North American Hunting Club, and the Mountain Top Hunting Club. Surviving are two daughters, Mary J. Sanders, St. George, W.Va., and Sarah K. Sanders, Binghamton, N.Y.; one son, Daniel L. Sanders, St. George, W.Va.; two sisters, Jeanette White, Roseburg, Ore., and Marilyn Arnett, Amboy, W.Va.; two brothers, C. Carroll Sanders 11, Mt. Grove, W.Va., and Shaun Sanders, Oakland; one half-sister, Carla Sanders, Needmore, Pa.; and one half brother, Carlton C. Sanders 11, Needmore. SANDERS, Darvin E.

DARVIN E. SANDERS: age 75 of Mentor, Ohio since 1971, formerly of Eastlake, Ohio, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010 at the Cleveland Clinic after a three year fight with leukemia.  Darvin was born December 2, 1934 in Oakland, MD. He retired after 21 years as president/owner of Habco Tool and Development in Mentor.  Prior to that, he was a plant manager for 21 years at the former Blue Industries in Willoughby. Mr. Sanders was a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard, and an outdoorsman, who loved hunting, fishing, and boating.  He was an avid golfer, who was a member of Blackbrook Golf Course in Mentor.  "Papa" enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, great-grand children and his famly at the lake house at Roaming Shores. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Gail (FIKE); sons, Richard SANDERS of Warren, Curtis (Cheryl) SANDERS of Painesville and Steven (Betsi) SANDERS of Chardon; daughter Wendi (Tim) DAVIS of Findlay; grandchildren, William, Robert, Tara (Rob) KAISER, Trisha (Byron) MARTIN, Tiffany, Carly, Ryan, Chad, Jordan, Matthew, Riley and Hannah; great grandchildren, Madison MARTIN and Brayden KAISER; brother James (Mary) SANDERS of Oakland, MD; and sister, Nancy (Floyd) SHREVE of Oakland, MD. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Holice SANDERS. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Brunner Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor. MEYERSDALE - Mrs. Estella E. Sanders, 82, died yesterday in Somerset. Born here, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Catherine (Darrah) Crowe. Surviving are a son, Edward Sanders, Roanoke, Va., and a daughter, Mrs. Marie Davies, Baltimore. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated yesterday at SS. Philip and James Catholic Church. Interment followed in the parish cemetery.

William Franklin Sanders, 81, a retired farmer, died Friday, Dec. 6, at the home of a son, Neil Sanders, with whom he resided at South Third Street, Oakland. A native of this county, he was the son of the late John H. Sanders and Mary (Slabaugh) Sanders. His wife, Mrs. Nellie G. Sanders, died in 1963. He served as an election judge at the Red House polling place for 51 years. Besides his son, Neil, he is also survived by two other sons, Francis W. Sanders, Mt. Lake Park; W. Dale Sanders, Fairmont, W, Va.; three daughters, Miss Audrey N. Sanders, Vera Beach, Fla.; Mrs. Freda Fulk, Frederick; and Mrs. Emerson Fike, Oakland; three sisters, Mrs. Laura Hauser, Clearfield, Pa.; Mrs. Pauline Eggers, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and Mrs. Josephine Small, DuBois, PA; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. The body was taken to the John O. Durst Funeral Home in Oakland. The body was taken to St. John's Lutheran I Church at Red House where services were conducted at 1 p. m. Sunday, Dec. 8, with Rev. Vaughn Taylor, pastor, officiating. A grandson, Rev. William Dale Sanders Jr., Oklahoma, offered a prayer. Interment was in the church cemetery.

John Sandles, aged and well-known resident ot South Connellsville, died Sunday morning at 11:45 o'clock at the Connellsville State Hospital following an emergency operation. Until retiring several years ago, Mr. Sandles was a butcher for many years in Connellsville and South Connellsville. At the time of his retirement a few years ago he was a butcher for Glenn A. Cadwallader of South Connellsville. Mr. Sandles is survived by four daughters - Mrs. F. A. Harah and Mrs. E. E. Sly of Connellsville, Mrs. R. C. Sneed of San Francisco, Cal., and Mrs. Sara Weimer of South Connellsville, also four grandchildren, Elaine and Ellagene Weimer of South Connellsville, Bobby Sneed of San Francisco and Mrs. Roy Laughead of Uniontown; one great-grandson, Roy Laughead, Jr., and two sisters, Mrs. Sara S. Hunter of Hilton, Kan., and Mrs. Elizabeth Cr««» of Brownsville. Mr. Sandles had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Weimer, and his granddaughters, Ellagene and Elaine Weimer. Mrs. Sandles preceded her husband in death. The body was removed by Funeral Director Charles C. Mitchell to the Weimer home in Pittsburg street, where the funeral service will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. Rev. Dr. W. H. Hetrick, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Hill Grove cemetery.

Austin Sandridge, better known as “Slim”, met with death Sunday evening as he was engaged on his train. He was braking with a stick on the 17 mile grade of the B & O RR when the stick broke, throwing him under the train. The wheels passed over his neck completely severing his head from his body. His body was brought to Keyser and prepared for burial by J. H. Markwood. Monday two uncles, Jos Sandridge and brother, of Belington, came here to look after the body and Tuesday morning left with it for Belington, where the burial took place.

SOMERSET— Charles Sandusky Jr., 64, of Somerset, died in Somerset Community Hospital Thursday night. He was born Aug. 8, 1903, in Connellsville, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Karl Sandusky. He is survived by his widow Mrs. Margaret Von Moose Sandusky; three sons, Carl of York, Harry of Somerset, R D. 1, and Donald of Uncasville Conn.; one daughter, Mrs. Fred Damico Jr. of Somerset; 11 grandchildren, and four sisters, Mrs. Emma Hegner of Dunbar, Mrs. Mary Trombley of Baltimore, Md., Mrs. Martha Trombley of Pittsburgh, and Mrs. Margaret Rice of Connellsville. He was a member of Somerset Trinity Lutheran Church, F. 0. Eagles of Somerset and Brotherhood of Iron Ship Builders of America Lodge 318, and was a retired employe of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. The body will be at the Halverson funeral home in Somerset after 7 p.m. today where the funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Roland W. Renkel, pastor of Trinity Church, officiating. Burial will be in Somerset County Memorial Park.

SANNER, Frank

MEYERSDALE, Pa. — An autopsy Monday showed that Frank Sanner, 49, Meyersdale, who at first was believed to have died of natural causes, was the victim of a hit-run vehicle, police reported. Sanner was pronounced dead of natural causes when he was brought to Meyersdale Community Hospital Sunday. However, an autopsy was ordered after the victim's wife told police she believed he had been struck by a vehicle while walking along a road several hours before his death. The autopsy showed death was due to chest and internal injuries, authorities reported.

Mrs. Annie Sansom, 94, of Mt. Savage, died this morning in Sylvan Retreat where she was admitted November 1960. Born at Wellersburg, she was a daughter of the late Adam and Mary (Brinham) Trimble and widow of Perry S. Sansom. Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Virginia B. Herrell, this city. The body is at the Hafer Funeral Home where friends will be received today from  7 to 9 p.m. and tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mt. Savage Methodist Church by Rev. William C. Harpold. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The body will be taken to the church at noon Saturday.

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Santrock, 66, of 7007 Church Street, Pittsburgh, formerly of Cumberland, died at her home Saturday. She was a daughter of the late Thomas and Agnes (Willetts) Brimlow. Survivors include a daughter, Miss Winifred Santrock, at home; a sister, Mrs. William Pryle, Pittsburgh, and a brother, George Brimlow, Billings, Mont. She was a member of the Swissvale Presbyterian Church. Services will be conducted tomorrow at 2 p. m. from the VanHorn Funeral Home, Swissvale, and interment will be in East McKeesport Cemetery.

SAPP, Roscoe

Roscoe Sapp, of Grafton, formerly of Gladesville, W. Va., was killed in the B&O yards at Grafton, when the tender of the yard engine on which he was riding jumped the track, throwing him under the wheels. He was a son of George Sapp, Thomas, W. Va., and was 26 years old. He is survived by his wife and two small children. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen and the Modern Woodmen of America.

SARFINO, Joseph (abridged)

WESTERNPORT — Joseph Sarfino, 87, formerly of Westernport, died peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014, in Cresaptown. He was born in Chicago, Ill., on April 1, 1927, and was the son of the late Nazareno Sarfino and Olga (Ferri) Sarfino. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pamela (Johnson) Sarfino. Joe was a member of the Piedmont Presbyterian Church. His first job was with McIntyre’s Bakery in Westernport from 1943 to 1945. Then, he joined and served in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1946. He was a lifetime member of Victory Post 155 American Legion in Westernport. Following his discharge from the Navy, he attended electrician school in Pittsburgh, Pa., while working a job in a bakery to support his new family back home. After finishing school, he worked for and retired from Potomac Edison on May 1, 1987. Joe is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy K. Cosner and husband Forrest of Aylett, Va.; and three sons, J. Gregory Sarfino and wife Joan of Bethesda, Richard W. Sarfino and wife Carole Sue of Glen Arm, and M. Derek Sarfino and wife Lori of Westernport. He is also survived by his brother, Lewis Sarfino and two sisters, Rose Marie Plum of Keyser, W.Va., and Betty Lee Rice and husband Arthur of Cumberland. Also remaining are his eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Fredlock Funeral Home in Piedmont on Saturday, Nov. 15, from noon until 1 p.m. when the funeral service will begin. Phil Stetler, grandson by marriage, will officiate. Interment will be in Philos Cemetery, Westernport. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be designated for Lights of Love or Memorial Fund and sent to the Piedmont Presbyterian Church.

The funeral of Matthew Jos. Sarsfield, chief train dispatcher, Baltimore and Ohio railroad, took place this morning from St. Patrick's Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery. Members of the Holy Name Society of St. Patrick's Church and of the Piedmont Council Knights of Columbus of which Mr Sarsfield was a member attended in a body.  The pallbearers were James Coniff, Charles F Bell, Piedmont and Charles Burke and William O'Brien, William Kelly and Charles Bell, this city.

Howard B. "Punk" Sarver Sr., 74, of Markleysburg, passed away Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, in his home in Eustis, Fla. He was born Feb. 1, 1926, in Ohiopyle, son of the late Artie N. and Georgia M. (Felton) Sarver. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by these brothers and sisters: Daisy Sarver, Verna Miglets, Hazel Morrison, Merle, Edison, Victor and Artie Jr. He is survived by his wife Thelma I. Shipley Sarver; children Howard B. Sarver of Markleysburg, Clifford I. Sarver and wife Roberta of Columbus, Ohio, Ronald N. Sarver and wife Barbara of Markleysburg, Danny and fiancee Carol of Markleysburg, Terry Sarver of Bradenton, Fla., Debbie Fortner and husband Brooks of Green Cove Springs, Fla., Brenda Nicholson and husband Louis of Mill Run, Patrick Sarver and wife Renee of Markleysburg and Lisa Sarver of Markleysburg; 25 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Clara A. Sass, 96, formerly of Boswell, died the evening of Jan. 5, 1988, at the home of her son, Dr. Robert Sass, of Sharon. Born Aug. 26, 1891, in Pocahontas, Somerset County, a daughter of Herman and Susan (Werner) Shockey. Preceded in death by parents; her husband, Dr. Franklin E., who died Jan. 8, 1963; and these sisters and brothers: C. Howard, Pearl Wetmiller, Matilda Hunter, Mary Coats, Jennie Moore and Fred Herman. Survived by two sons, Dr. Robert E., married to the former Kathryn Karns, Sharon; and Dr. Donald K., married to the former Patricia Williams, Millville, N.J.; also six grandchildren. A sister of Lewis E. and Robert F., both of Meyersdale RD. A member of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, Boswell. Dr. Franklin E. Sass, 78, of Boswell, physician for more than 50 years, died Tuesday at his home after a lingering illness. A graduate of Valparaiso, Ind., University, he attended the University of Pittsburgh and was graduated in 1910 from Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia. He began practice in 1910 in Pocahontas, Somerset County, going to Boswell in 1914. He was a past president of Somerset County Medical Society, former coroner of Somerset County, and a member of the American Medical Association. Surviving are his widow, the former Clara A. Shockey, with whom he would have celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary on Saturday; and two sons, Dr. Robert E , surgeon at Sharon General Hospital, and Dr. Donald K., obstetrician and gynecologist at Salem, N. J., General Hospital.

MEYERSDALE, June 1 — Mrs. Sevilla Sass, 97, of Meyersdale, died Thursday in Community Hospital, Meyersdale. The widow of August Sass, she leaves four children, including Mrs. Alma Kelly of Connellsville and Dr. F. E. Sass of Boswell; two brothers, one sister, 17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Frostburg - Henry J. Sathoff, 83, of 196 West Mechanic Street, died yesterday at his home after an illness of several years. A native of Eckhart, he was the son of the late Detrick and Elizabeth (Gallagher) Sathoff. He retired about ten years ago and was the last member of his immediate family. His wife, Mrs. Mary K. (Brode) Sathoff, died about two years ago. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Joseph Lewis, of here; Mrs. Emma Cordial, Baltimore; and Mrs. Doris Jones, Akron, Ohio; two sons, Clarence Sathoff, Corriganville; and Earl Sathoff, Eckhart; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The body is at the Durst Funeral home. A service will be conducted there tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Leonard B. Ranson will officiate and burial will follow in Frostburg Memorial Park.

Frostburg, Oct. 9 — Mrs. Gilbert Pfaff, 37 Bowery street, received word of the death of her brother Robert Saurbaugh, 82, Sunday at his home in Buzzards Bay, Mass. A native of Frostburg, he left there 53 years ago to make his home in Fall River, Mass., later moving to Buzzards Bay. Mr. Saurbaugh was a son of the late John and Susan (Walsh) Saurbaugh. Other survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Frank Keene, Buzzards Bay, and a grandson, Franklin Keene, a member of the coast guard. Mrs. Pfaff is the only surviving member of a family of 10 children. Mr. Saurbaugh's wife, Mrs. Nellie (Saddington) Saurbaugh, died two years ago.

GRANTSVILLE — William Louis Sausman, 83, of 55 South Street, Akron, Lancaster County, Pa., died yesterday at his home after a long illness.  Born in Grantsville, he was the son of the late Henry W. and Martha (Duerr) Sausman.  A resident of Akron for 15 years, Mr. Sausman was employed as an engineer and fireman at the Millway, Pa., pumping station of the Southern Pipeline of Oil City, Pa., until his retirement in. 1951.  He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Lancaster, and of the Patriotic Order, Sons of America in Ellerslie.Surviving are his widow, Laura D. (Glover) Sausman; one daughter, Mrs. Harry C. Bender, Akron, Pa.; one brother, Edward Sausman, of Ohio; three sisters, Mrs. Harry Scholl, Falls City, Neb.; Mrs. Bertha Adams, Papillion, Neb., and Mrs. Ruth Baine, Mercer County, Pa.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  Services will be conducted on Saturday at 2 p. m. at St. John's Lutheran Church. Addison, Pa., with interment in the church cemetery.  The body will be on view at the church for an hour before the services.

SAVAGE, Albert H.

Oakland - Albert Henry Savage, about 37, of Crellin, died of a heart attack yesterday afternoon while hunting groundhogs in the woods about two miles from his home. He had been in ill health since the first of the year.  Mr. Savage, a veteran of World War II, had been an employe of the Kray Coal Company in Crellin for 18 years. He was a son of Mrs. Sarah (Sliger) Savage, of Friendsville, and the late Noah Savage.Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Loretta (Bergner) Savage and four children, John, Thomas, Sharon and James Savage, all at home. Also surviving are two brothers, William Savage, of Kingwood, W.Va.,; Oliver Savage, Friendsville; four sisters, Mrs. Sadie Hinebaugh, Crellin; Mrs. Betty Knotts, Kingwood; Mrs. Dessie Kisner, Baltimore, and Mrs. Mabel Fike, of here. The body is at the residence where a service will be conducted on Thursday at 2 p.m.  Rev. Arthur M. Savage, 86, Mtn. Lake Park, died Wednesday, March 27, 1996, at the HCA Hospital, New Port Richey, Fla. Born Feb. 14, 1910, in Friendsville, he was the son of the late Freeman and Savilla (Glover) Savage. He was also preceded in death by one son, Stanley C. Savage. He was the owner of the Arthur M. Savage Studebaker Garage; Arthur M. Savage Allis Chalmers; and Arthur M. Savage Jeep Garage. Survivors include his wife, Rosalie (Stahl) Savage; two daughters, Debra Savage, McHenry, and Carole Carthron, Maryland; one son, Lydell Savage, Pikesville; one sister, Beulah Listerneck, Everett, Mass.; and three grandchildren. Mrs. Daisy Savage, 82, widow of Charles Savage, died last night in the Oak Rest Nursing Home in Oakland where she had been a patient three years. A native of Garrett County, she was a daughter of the late John W. and Mary E. (Markley) Friend and formerly resided in McHenry. She is survived by two sons, Arthur Savage, McHenry, and Paul Savage, Akron, Ohio; three daughters, Mrs. Verlyn Carr, McHenry; Mrs. Charles MacFarland, Everett, Pa., and Mrs. Morris Goehringer, Atwater, Ohio; 13 granchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. The body is at the John O. Oakland, Md., Nov. 13 - Mrs. Elsie Alice Savage, 54, wife of Walter C. Savage, died at her home west of Oakland, Wednesday morning after and illness of ten days. She was the daughter of the late Rufus and Margaret DeWitt. Surviving are her husband and two children, Stanley Savage, Oakland, and Luther Savage in the United States Army, Fort Belvoir, Va.; five brothers, Lee DeWitt, New Kensington, Pa.; Lester DeWitt, Sang Run; Boyd DeWitt, Akron, O.; Clarence DeWitt, Cranesville, W. Va., and Aubrey DeWitt, Akron, O., and one half-sister, Mrs. Mary Grimes, Akron, O. Mrs. Savage was a member of the Penecostal faith. Funeral services were conducted from the Sand Flat Tabernacle, today with interment in Sang Run Cemetery.

Surviving are his widow, Leona (Wright) Savage; a son, Paul Savage, this city; a daughter, Mrs. Helena Kuznair, Waldorf, MD; five brothers, Stewart Savage, Accident; Clarence Savage, Emporuim, PA; Thomas Savage, Oakland; William Savage, McHenry, and Edward Savage, Hopwood, PA; three sisters, Mrs. Owen Friend, Cambridge Springs, OH and Mrs. Joseph DeWitt, McHenry and three grandchildren. She was a member of Rosewood United Pentecostal Church. Surviving are her husband Walter C. Savage; one son, Paul T. Calderwood, Bethesda, Md.; two stepsons, Stanley and Luther Savage, Oakland and two brothers, Lee and Leslie Rodeheaver, Deer Park. The body is a the Leighton Funeral Home where a service will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. Rev. Roy J. Riffle will officiate and interment will be in Deer Park Cemetery.  Friends will be received at the funeral home today from 7 until 9 p.m. and tomorrow from 2 until 4 p.m. and 7 until 9 p.m.

FRIENDSVILLE - Orval T. Savage, 64, died Saturday in the University of West Virginia Medical Center, Morgantown, where he had been a patient two weeks. Born in Friendsville, he was a son of the late Newton and Mary. M. (Casteel) Savage. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Verna (Savage) Savage; three brothers, Leslie E. Savage, Friendsville; Jack N. Savage, Elizabeth, Pa., and Junior C. Savage, Courtland, Ohio, and a sister, Mrs. Icie Groves, Terra Alta, W. Va. The body is at the Newman Funeral Residence here where friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted today at 2 p.m. (EST) at Blooming Rose Methodist Church by Rev. Vernon Witt and Rev. George Lovelace, with interment in the church cemetery.   The body will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. today.

Rose Marie Savage, 52, of Route 3, Box 184 CC, Bruceton Mills, WV, died Saturday September 20, 2003, at Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, WV. Born October 13, 1950, in Markleysburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Playford and Zelda Celia (Herring) Guthrie. She was preceded in death by her husband, Isaiah Cecil Savage, September 20, 2002. Mrs. Savage was a homemaker and was Church of the Brethren by faith. She is survived by three sons, Samuel George Smith, Curtis Jackson Savage, Sr. and Playford Nedrow Savage, all of Bruceton Mills, WV; six brothers, Richard Guthrie and James Guthrie, both of Bruceton Mills; Robert Guthrie, Oakland, MD; Charles Guthrie, Markleysburg, PA; Samuel Guthrie and George Guthrie, both of Akron, OH; four grandchildren, Curtis J. Savage, Jr.; Craig Allen Savage, Amber Savage, Christopher Isaiah Savage; two step-grandchildren, Carrie Duncan and Cody Burgess. Family will receive family and friends at Mrs. Savage's home on Sunday after 6 p.m. and all day Monday. Services will be conducted at her home on Tuesday, September 23, 2003, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Paul Sisler officiating. Interment will be in Blooming Rose Cemetery.

Oakland - Mrs. Sarah Savage, 80, died yesterday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sadie Hinebaugh, Crellin, with whom she resided the past seven years.  She was in ill health the past ten years. Born in Garrett County she was a daughter of the late Jacob and Mary (Uphold) Sliger.  Her husband, Noah Savage, preceded her in death. Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Betty Knotts, Kongwood; Mrs. Dessie Kisner, Baltimore, and Mrs. Mabel Fike, Romney; two sons, William Savage, Kingwood, and Oliver Savage, Friendsville; three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Sowers, Silver Spring Mrs. Rosa Smouse, here, and Mrs. Pearl Suter, Friendsville; two brothers, Russell Sliger, Monaco, Pa., and Wilbert Sliger, here; 23 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. The body is at the Leighton-Durst Funeral Home where friends will be received from 2 until 4 p.m. and 7 until 9 p.m. A service will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. at Blooming Rose Methodist Church near Friendsville.  Rev. George W. Lovelane will officiate and interment will be in the church cemetery.

Shirley Jean Savage, age 41 years, of 1303 W 65th St., Cleveland, Ohio, died suddenly Tuesday morning, May 26, 1981, at her home. She was born February 13, 1940, in Belle Vernon, Pa., daughter of the late Demerit F. and Anna Marion Wisecup Bird. Surviving are her husband, Eugene Savage, Cleveland, Ohio; two daughters, Mrs. Barbara Bramer, Deerfield, Ohio, and Mrs. Earla J. Nolan, Akron, Ohio; a son, Eugene Douglas Savage, Cleveland, Ohio; five grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Doris Friend, Markleysburg; five brothers, Demerit Bird, Markleysburg, James Bird, Farmington, Samuel Bird, Saylorsburg, Pa., Jack Bird, Cleveland, Ohio, and William Bird, Markleysburg. She was predeceased by a son and a brother. Friends may call at the James R. Williams Funeral Home, Markleysburg, Thursday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Friday 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the hour of service. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Cora (Ault) Savage; four sons, Junior Ray Savage, Robert Savage, both of Friendsville; Glenn Savage, Baltimore; James Savage, with the Army in Korea, six daughters, Mrs. Ellen Hardesty, Somerset, Pa.; Mrs. Patty Martin and Mrs. Shirley Sines, both of Oakland; Mrs. Alice Sisler, Baltimore; Miss Jean Savage, Miss Elma Savage, both of Taneytown; 16 grandchildren; three half-brothers, Cecil Savage, Friendsville Foster and Curtis Savage, both of Brownsville, Pa.; one sister Mrs. Orpha Dixon, Morgantown W.Va.; two halfsisters, Mrs. Flossie VanSickle, Friendsville and Mrs. Merle Wilson, Brownsville. SAVAGE, W. W.

A son of the late Salathiel and Mary Catharine Silbaugh Savage was born in Brandonville, W. Va., April 5, 1868 and departed this life Dec. 2?, 1950, at age of 82. He was united in marriage May 4, 1890, to Catharine Alvina Myers. To this union were born five daughters: Mrs. John D. McCuen (Mabel), Mrs. Wade Schlossnagle (Bessie), both of Allison, Pa.; Mrs. Byard Liston (Iva), Confluence, Pa.; Mrs. Lawrence Friend (Manilla), and Mrs. William Rose (Floretta), both of Friendsville, Md. His wife preceded him in death in 1935. He is also survived by the following grandchildren; Mrs. Edward Rose, Meadville, Pa.; Mrs. Gerald Green, Allison, Pa.; William R. Liston, Confluence, Pa.; Jack D. Friend, Friendsville, Md., and two great-grandchildren, William Edward Rose and Sandra Lee Green. He was a member of the Friendsville Methodist Church, active in both church and civic affairs his entire lifetime serving as Sunday School Superintendent, Bilble class teacher, choir leader and a member of the Official Board of the Friendsville Charge. He served as chairman of the building committe and drew the plans for the present church. He was elected the first mayor of Friendsville and served in that capacity for two terms. He was also elected as a representative of the State Legislature, member and chairman of the Garrett County School Board, charter member and director of the Garrett County Historical Society, one of the organizers and directors of the First National Bank of Friendsville and organizer and director of the Bruceton Bank for a number of years. Mr. Savage served the community of Friendsville as a public servant in the mercantile and funeral business for more than fifty years. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, December 31st, in the Methodist Church, Friendsville, Md., by Rev. R. L. Greynolds of Parsons, W. Va., Rev. W. E. Wade of Gormania, W. Va., former pastors, Rev. Howard Hall, present pastor and Dr. Alden J. Allen, present pastor of the Confluence Methodist Church. Interment in Addison, Pa., Cemetery.

A requiem mass for Mrs. Mary Lena Saveleski, 73, widow of John M. Saveleski, of 102 Pennsylvania Avenue, who died Saturday, was celebrated this morning in St Mary's Catholic church by the Rev. Lawrence P. Landrigan, pastor. Burial was in St Patrick's cemetery. Pallbearers were Francis Mulligan, H. J. Zimmers, George, Henry and William Harris and John Loibel.

SAVILISKY, Mrs. N. Jean Haines

RIDGELEY, W.Va. - N. Jean Savilisky, 56, died Tuesday, June 25, 1991 at the Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit, Cumberland, Md. Born Nov. 11, 1934 in Fort Ashby, she was the daughter of the late William E. and Irene Frances (Self) Haines. Mrs. Savilisky was a graduate of Fort Ashby High School and Catherman’s Business School, Cumberland. She had been an executive secretary at Kelly-Springfield Tire Company headquarters in Cumberland for 24 years. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Kelly Girls. Survivors include two daughters, Diane Farris, Fort Ashby; and Tammy Powell, Short Gap; two brothers, John W. Haines, Wiley Ford and Harold “Buddy” Haines, Cumberland; and seven grandchildren. Friends will be received at the George-Upchurch Funeral Home, Cumberland, on Wednesday. Services will be conducted at Trinity United Methodist Church, Fort Ashby, on Thursday at 1 p.m. by the Rev. James E. Shepherd II. Interment will be in the Fort Ashby Cemetery.

Romney - Thomas Ray Saville, 53, died Saturday in West Virginia University Hospital, Morgantown. Born on December 20, 1909, in Hampshire County, he was a son of the late Willliam L. and Alpharetta (Burkett) Saville. He was a farmer and a member of Branch Mountain Methodist Church, Three Churches. Surviving are his wife, Lillian (Pownall) Saville, Romney; one daughter, Mrs. Karen Ganoe, at home; two sisters, Mrs. Nola Fisher and Mrs. Kathryn Wolford, both of Romney; five brothers, H. A. Saville, Pittsburgh; Carl, James, Victor, and W. Earl Saville, all of Romney, and one granddaughter. The body is at the Shaffer Funeral Home where friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and tomorrow. A service will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home by Rev. SAWYERS, Mrs. Carolyn Sue Davis

WESTERNPORT, MD. - Carolyn S. Sawyers, 57, of 211 Central Avenue, Westernport, died Monday, May 9, 2005, at her residence after a short and courageous battle with cancer. Born January 13, 1948, in Keyser, she was a daughter of the late Parent Bernard and Sarah (Pennington) Davis. She also was preceded in death by a brother, James Davis. Mrs. Sawyers was a graduate of Keyser High School Class of 1965 and Tri-State Beauty Academy, Cumberland, and a member of Trinity United Methodist, Piedmont. Carolyn was a devoted, loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved gardening and visits from her friends. Surviving are her husband, Thomas L. Sawyers; two sons, Harry W. Wilhelm of Keyser and Tracey L. Wilhelm at home; a daughter, Bethany Ann Sawyers at home; two stepsons, Thomas L. Sawyers and wife Tracy of Ridgeley and Michael Dean Sawyers and wife Kelly of Piedmont; two brothers, Warren Davis of Sheffield, Pa., and Melvin Davis of Warren, Pa.; and her loving, devoted sister and caregiver, Ellen B. Hartman of McCoole. She is also survived by a very special grandson Austin P. Wilhelm; four step-grandchildren, Tessa Sawyers, Jennifer Sawyers, Lacey Sawyers and Michael Sawyers; and mother-in-law, Mildred G. Sawyers. At Mrs. Sawyers' request, her body will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser, on Sunday, May 15, 2005, at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Bart Thompson officiating. Private inurnment will be in Philos Cemetery, Westernport. WESTERNPORT - Mildred "Midge" G. Sawyers, 91, a resident of Moran Manor, and formerly of Keyser, W.Va., died on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, at Braddock Hospital, Cumberland. Born June 28, 1916, in Hilton, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Elmer Willis and Bernice Ethel (Stevens) White. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Sumner "Tom" D. Sawyers on July 12, 1999; daughter-in-law, Carol Saw-yers of Westernport; and one brother, Allan White and wife Eva M of New Carrollton. Mrs. Sawyers was a graduate of Morris-Harvey College of Charleston, W.Va., with a bachelor of arts degree in Bible & Religious Education. A minister's wife of 58 years, devoted to her work for the Lord, she was a member of Grace United Methodist Church of Keyser, United Methodist Women, past president and member of Burlington United Methodist Family Service Auxiliary and former member of Terra Alta O.E.S. Surviving are her two sons, Thomas Lee Sawyers and Edwin S. Sawyers and wife Nancy (Miller), all of Westernport; three grandchildren, Thomas Lin Sawyers and wife Michelle, Michael Dean Sawyers and wife Kelley and Bethany Ann Sawyers; two stepgrandchildren, Harry and Tracy Wilhelm; four great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Lacey, Tessa and Michael Sawyers; and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Charity Flaskamp and David Grady. Mrs. Sawyers was the last surviving member of her immediate family. SAXTON, Edward

Killed by the Cars - Early Thursday morning, 16th inst., Edward Saxton, aged 28, flagman on the Pittsburg and Connellsville railroad, was killed at Tynder's Station, near West Newton Pa. The rear end of his train, a freight, had become detached and was standing on the track, when the second section of the train ran into the car in which Saxton was, killing him. He is supposed to have been asleep. His remains were taken to his home at Barton Md.

Charles William, the child of Mr. and Mrs. Geo Sayers, died of measles May 21, 1911, aged 1 year, 10 months, and 27 days.
The little flower has been taken from a world of sorrow to dwell with the angels in glory.
Jesus has said "Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them no, for of such is the kingdom of Heaven." The bereaved parents have the sympathy of everyone. It was buried at Nethken Hill Cemetery, W. H. Kight was undertaker.

ELK GARDEN NEWS - We are sorry to learn of the death of William Sayers, aged 30 years, who was killed in the mine at Wabash last Tues. He was struck on the back of his head by a falling prop and lived but a short time. Funeral at Nethkin Hill on Thursday afternoon of this week.

HARTMONSVILLE NEWS - While working in Mine NO 11 of the Wabash Mines yesterday, Tuesday, W. W.[sic] Sayers, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Sayers, was so seriously hurt that he died in the afternoon without regaining consciousness.The roof of the mine was not good and a prop was set to support it. A fall of breast coal knocked the prop down, and it struck him on the head. The accident occurred about six o'clock in the morning. Dr J Oliver Lantz was called, and did all he could to relieve his suffering. He was kind hearted, and was very kind and much attached to his mother. He was a member of the Orders of Odd Fellows and Red Men. The family has the sincere sympathy of everyone.

ELK GARDEN NEWS -Wm. M. Sayers, who was killed in the Wabash mines, April 11, 1911, was 29 years, 5 months and 27 days old. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Wm Sayers who lived at Elk Garden. He was a kind hearted man, much attached to the family, especially his mother. He was a member of the Odd Fellows and the Red Men. A special train was run to Elk Garden on Thursday, and the interment was in the Nethken Hill Cemetery. The funeral sermon was preached in Nethken Hill church by Rev. J. W. Bedford, assisted by Rev. L. C. Messick. A very large crowd attended the funeral. The Red Men pallbearers were: D. Lee Junkins, E. G. Rodruck, Robert Donnally, Wm. Snider, O. Shillenburg, Ralph Fawcett. The Odd Fellow pallbearers were: O Smith, Wm Shillenburg, A W Farris, S Farris, Thos. Davis, Wm Green. Funeral director F C Rollman.

SAYLOR, Mrs. Anna Bird

Mrs. Anna Bird Saylor, wife of George Saylor, died at her home in Somerset, Monday night, of paralysis following an illness that extended over a long period. Mrs. Saylor suffered several strokes of paralysis but rallied each time. Her condition became serious several days ago. Surviving are her husband and six children as follows: The Mesdames Thomas Cooper, Robert Berkey, and Charles Murray of Somerset; Mrs. Edward Simmons, of Turtle Creek, and Alexander and George, of Somerset. The funeral was held Wednesday, Rev. Henry Muffington, pastor of the United Brethren Church, officiating.

SOMERSET, Aug. 18 — Mrs. Ellen Beal Saylor, 77, died Monday night at her home at Glencoe, R. D. I, after an extended illness. She was a daughter of the late Eli and Elizabeth Groff Beal and the widow of Peter Saylor and is survived by these children: Wilson of Meyersdale, Mrs. Esau Ackerman, Mrs. H. S. Smith, Harry and James of Glencoe, and William, John, Jerry and Norman of Berlin.

BERLIN, Pa. — Dr. Ezra C. Saylor, 72, a dentist here since 1914, died yesterday at his residence. Born June 18, 1881, near Meyersdale, he was a son of the late Henry W. and Ellen (Glotfelty) Saylor. Dr. Saylor was a graduate of the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery and practiced dentistry in the office of Dr. L. M. Ritter in Frostburg, Md., before setting up his own office in Salisbury and then coming here 40 years ago.

MEYERSDALE — Mrs. Fannie Saylor, 92, died yesterday at her home. Born at Meyersdale RD, she was a daughter of the late Simon and Elizabeth (Fike) Marteney, and was the widow of Samuel Saylor. She was a member of Meyersdale Church of the Brethren and the Ladies Aid Society. Surviving are two sons, Homer M. Saylor, RD 2, and Roy E. Saylor, here; a daughter, Mrs. Earl Schrock, here; a sister, Mrs. Howard Speicher, RD 4; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The body is at the Price Funeral Home where friends will be received after 7 p.m. today. A service will be conducted there Saturday at 2 p.m. Rev. SAYLOR, Harry E.

Harry E. Saylor, 73, of New Lexington, died Saturday in his home. He was born June 13, 1892, in Middle Creek Township, a son of the late Nelson and Annie Miller Saylor. He was a member of the Rockwood Church of the Brethren, Kingwood Grange, Somerset County Pomona Grange and Pennsylvania State Grange. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Pearl McGuire Saylor; a son, Kenneth Wayne; three grandsons and a brother, M. A. Saylor of Rockwood, R. D. 2. He was preceded in death by a son and a sister. The body will be at the Milder funeral home, Somerset, until noon Wednesday, when it will be taken to the Rockwood Church of the Brethren to lie in state until 2 p.m., the hour of the funeral service. The Rev. Walter F. Berkebile will officiate. Burial will be in Middle Creek Cemetery.

SAYLOR, James

A funeral service will be held Thursday in Berlin, Pa., for James Saylor, 63, of RD 2, Meyersdale, who was killed Monday night in a one-car accident near Berlin. Mr. Saylor was dead on arrival at Meyersdale Community Hospital about 45 minutes after the accident which occurred on Pennsylvania Route 160 about five miles south of Berlin at 5:45 p.m. A native of North Hampton Township, Pa., he was a son of the late Peter and Ellen (Deal) Saylor. He was employed as a sawyer. Surviving are his widow, June (Kroushour) Saylor; five daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Werner, Mrs. Marlene Bowman, Salamanca, N. Y.; Mrs. Shirley Ann Weimer, RD 2, Meyersdale; Mrs. Lois Sacco, RD 4, Meyersdale; and Mrs. Carolyn Wymer, East Aurora, N. Y.; three brothers, Jerry Saylor, RD 4, Meyersdale; William Saylor, RD 3, Berlin, and Harry Saylor, RD 2, Meyersdale. The body is at the Johnson and Son Funeral Home in Berlin where a service will be conducted Thursday at 3:30 p.m. Rev. Paul E. Snyder will officiate and interment will be in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Glencoe.

SAYLOR, Mrs. Lydia A. Faidley

Mrs. Lydia A. Saylor, 90, of Somerset, died in Somerset Community Hospital. She was born June 23, 1871, in Upper Turkeyfoot Township, a daughter of the late Simon and Nancy Swarner Faidley. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Florence McGuire of Somerset, and Mrs. Helen Geary of Rockwood, R.D. 2; a son Ross, of Somerset; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; two brothers, including Elmer of Rockwood R.D. 3; and four sisters, Mrs. Ellen Dumbauld and Mrs. Ada King of Rockwood, R.D. 3, Mrs. Anna Ream of Rockwood R.D. 2, and Mrs. Edith Kreger of Somerset. She was preceded by her husband Marcellus in 1949, two sisters and a brother.

SAYLOR, Milton Abe

M. A. Saylor, 79, of New Lexington, Somerset County, died Tuesday in Meyersdale Community Hospital. He was a son of the late Nelson and Annie Miller Saylor, and was born July 30, 1886, in Middlecreek Township. He was a member of Rockwood Church of the Brethren and Kingwood Grange, a former director of Union National Bank of Rockwood, and a former director of the Somerset R.E.A. He was a farmer. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Faye Wingett Saylor; two sons, Maurice J. of Rockwood, R. D. 2, and Maynard L. of Rockwood, R. D. 3; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister. The body will be at the Miller funeral home, Somerset, until noon Friday, when it will be taken to the Rockwood Church of the Brethren, to lie in state until 2 p.m., the hour of the service. The Rev. Walter Berkebile will officiate. Interment will be in Somerset County Memorial Park.

SAYLOR, Nelson

ROCKWOOD, May 7 — Nelson Saylor, 85 years old, died Tuesday evening at the home of a son, Harry, at Rockwood R D 2. The son of the late Eli and Sarah Friend Saylor, he had spent his entire life in Somerset county. His wife, Mrs. Anna Miller Saylor, died in 1919, and a daughter, Mrs. Bruce Hennencamp, in 1939. Surviving are these sons, Harry and Abraham of Rockwood; three grandsons, one great-grandson, and these brothers and sisters, Marcellus of Rockwood R D 2, Norman of Athens, Ohio, and Mrs. Perry Brugh and Miss Susan of Rockwood.

SAYLOR, Rachel J. Paul

Rachel J. Saylor, 80, of Cumberland Street, Berlin, died April 6, 1977, in Meyersdale Community Hospital. Born Aug. 27, 1896, in Vinco, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Clara (Moffet) Paul. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stewart C. in 1938, two daughters, four brothers and two sisters. She is survived by these children: Dorothy Knepshield of Somerset; Paul of Berlin; Stewart of Somerset; Phyllis Claypool of Ft. Myers, Fla.; Donald of Detroit, Mich.; Elbert of Berlin; Lois Wolfersberger of Winchester, Va.; Gene of Sterling, Va.; Dwight of College Park, Md.; 19 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was the sister of Allen Paul of Somerset; and Maurice Paul of Hartz, Mich.; and a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Berlin. Friends were received at the Johnson and Son Funeral Home, Berlin, where services were held with the Rev. Kenneth S. Swanson officiating. Interment, Berlin IOOF Cemetery.

SAYLOR, Robert E.

MEYERSDALE, June 1 — Robert E. Saylor, 52 years old, died at the Hazel McGilvery Hospital early Thursday morning after a long illness of complications. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at his home at 118 Olinger street. Interment was made in Union cemetery. He is survived by his widow, Ida Belcher Saylor; one daughter, Mrs. Karl Wahl of Cumberland, his father, Howard Saylor; one brother, Lee Saylor; one sister, Mrs. Viola Saylor, all of Meyersrdale; and one grandson. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. He was an employee of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad for 33 years and was serving in the capacity of engineer when he was taken ill several months ago.

JOHNSTOWN — Theodore William Saylor, 81, of here, died Tuesday following a long illness. Born in Meyersdale, he was a son of the late William C. and Catherine (Poschman) Saylor. Survivors include his widow, Gladys (Mimna) Saylor, three daughters, Mrs. James Vore, Schellsburg; Mrs. Ruth Blackburn, Verona, and Mrs. Marguerite Lohr, Johnstown; three sons, Earl F. and Kenneth Sayor, both of Johnstown, and Theodore W. Saylor, Elizabethtown; a brother, Charles Saylor, Berlin; a sister, Mrs. Charles O'Donnell, Cumberland; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. The body is at the Ketterer Funeral Home in Johnstown. A service and interment will be held Friday.

SAYRE, Miss Frances Batten

Miss Frances Sayre, aged 31 years, died at 11:30 am, November 21, 1912, at the Hoffman Hospital. About one week ago, Miss Sayre underwent an operation for appendicitis. She was daughter of Marshall Sayre, the old and well known B&O conductor, and was one of the most popular young women in Keyser. She was employed as a stenographer in the office of J. J. Z. Terrell, local B&O agent. Aside from her parents, she is survived by a sister, Miss Hallie Sayre; employed in the post office. Funeral arrangements have not been made.

SAYRE, Miss Frances Batten

Died, at the Hoffman Hospital, Thursday, November 21st, 1912, Miss Frances Batten Sayre, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Sayre. Frank, as she was familiarly known, was perhaps one of the most popular young women in this section, being of a bright and cheerful disposition, always had a pleasant word for those she met, loyal to her friends, and they were many, and charitable towards those who spoke ill of her. As one who frequently visited their home, we always found them to be a loving and devoted family, and we are sure there is no one who will be missed more than Frank. The bereaved family have the deepest sympathy of the entire community. Besides the father and mother she leaves one sister, Miss Hallie Sayre. The funeral took place at three o'clock, on Saturday, from her late residence on Mineral St.
