OLDTOWN — Shirley Amelia Norma "Abe" Yaider, 53, of Oldtown, passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2011, at Maryland General Hospital in Baltimore. Born March 24, 1958 in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late James W. and Ventus (Santmyire) Abe. She was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Thomas Yaider; two brothers, Kenneth Abe, William Abe; and a sister, Bonnie "Abe" Nolan. Shirley was a hairdresser, a member of the Bethel Assembly of God Church in Oldtown, and enjoyed crocheting. Surviving are her daughter, Stephanie Yaider, Ridgeley, W.Va.; three sisters, Patricia Abe, Oldtown, Sara Paxton and husband Alan, Cumberland, Deborah Loar and husband John, Wolfordsburg, Pa.; two brothers, Fred Abe and wife Bella, Cresaptown, Terry Abe and wife Patricia, Oldtown; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland on Wednesday, from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. James N. Stemple II officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

YAIDER, Thomas A.

RIDGELEY, W.Va. — Thomas A. Yaider, 59, of Ridgeley, W.Va., went to be with the Lord after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He died peacefully in his sleep, Monday, June 14, 2010, at his residence with his wife and family by his side. He was a devoted, loving husband and father to his girls. Born Jan. 31, 1951, in Peterstown, W.Va., he was the son of the late William Carl and Lula E. (Hose) Yaider. Tom was a former employee at Mako Guardrail, G.Lite Electric, Thorton Communications, Tele Tech Company, Inc. and Goodwill Industries. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and working on his heavy equipment. He also enjoyed time with his family and friends. He loved to tell a good story and he had plenty of them. Surviving are his wife, Judith (Wilson) Yaider; two daughters, Stephanie Yaider, of Oldtown, and Teffany Bridges, of Cumberland; two sisters, Laura Walters and husband Gary, of Oldtown, and Janet Yaider, of Fort Ashby; one brother, William Carl “Sonny” Yaider and wife Judy, of Fort Ashby; close buddies, Greg High, Ralph Brady, Jim Norris, Ed Elva, Junior Yaider and Jerry Yaider, Amy Callis, and Jeri Yaider; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Carolyn Wilson officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home one hour prior to the services from 10 to 11 a.m. The family wishes to thank the Western Maryland Hospice Home Care, for all their help and care, and the Department of Juvenile Services for allowing Judith to spend time with her husband.

Arthur Edward Yantz, 57, of Belle Grove, near Hancock, died yesterday afternoon in Memorial Hospital following an illness of one month. He was employed as an orchard worker. A native of Mount Savage, he was a son of Clara Albright Yantz Bryant, Belle Grove, and the late Leroy Garfield Yantz. Besides his mother, he is survived by a brother, Roy Yantz, Baltimore; two half brothers, Richard Bryant, York, Pa., and William Bryant, Baltimore; three sisters, Mrs. Harry Livengood, Cumberland; Mrs. Elsie Twigg, New York City; Mrs. Paul James, Flintstone; and two half sisters, Mrs. Albert Kimble, Baltimore and Mrs. James Robinette, Kentucky. The body is at the Hafer Funeral Home where friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.

MT. SAVAGE — Mrs. Rebecca G. Yantz, 93, widow of Thomas P. Yantz, died yesterday at her home on New Row. Born in Corriganville, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Lucinda (Hiner) Geary, and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a member of the Mt. Savage Methodist Church and the WSCS. Surviving are a son, Charles O. Yantz, Cleveland; five daughters, Mrs. James House, at home; Mrs. William Best, Mt. Savage; Mrs. Fred Breneman, Altoona; Mrs. Benjamin A. McDowell, Short Gap, and Mrs. George Beckwith, Cumberland; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The body is at the residence. Services will be conducted on Monday at 2 p. m. in Mt. Savage Methodist Church by Rev. William C. Harpold and Rev. Lawrence C. Butler. Interment will be in St. George Episcopal Cemetery.

YARNALL, Mrs. Josephine Chapman
 
Mrs. Josephine Yarnall, 78, of 510 Regina Avenue, died Friday in Sacred Heart Hospital. Born at Borden Shaft on Sept. 12, 1908, she was the daughter of the late John A. Sr. and Catherine E. (Trapp) Chapman. Her husband, James E. Yarnall, died in July, 1969. She taught school for 42 years, the last 17 in the first grade at West Side School, and had taught at Cresaptown, Gephart, Union Street, Penn Avenue and Columbia Street elementary schools. She was a 1925 graduate of Beall High School and a 1927 graduate of Frostburg State Normal School, a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the Frostburg State Alumni Association, and the Retired Teacher's Association, and was past president of the Association of Children's Education. Surviving are two brothers, George T. Chapman and Francis Warren Chapman, both of Cumberland; four sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Miller and Mrs. Bernadette Chorpenning, both of Cumberland; Mrs. Margaret Fisher, Salisbury, Pa., and Mrs. Leola M. Miller, La Vale, and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received in the Scarpelli Funeral Home Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at noon in St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Interment will be St. Mary's Cemetery. A Christian wake service will be held at the funeral home Sunday at 8 p.m.

YARNELL, James Edward

James Edward Yarnall, 70, of 510 Regina Avenue, died Tuesday at Sacred Heart Hospital. He had been in ill health for some time. Mr. Yarnall, who had worked in various capacities for the B&0 Railroad for 40 years, retired from the B&O Police Department in 1964. For many years, he was a member of Clem Bray's "Marylanders," a nationally-known orchestra, and later played with a local orchestra, the "Byg Set," the name of which was taken from the initials of its members. He was the last surviving member of this orchestra. Known as "Mr. Elk", Mr. Yarrnall had been an active member and secretary of Cumberland Lodge 63, BPO Elks until shortly after his retirement from the railroad. He served as secretary for 30 years, took an active part in all lodge activities and was especially interested in the "Minstrelks" given for benefit of the Allegany County League for Crippled Children and in fund-raising efforts for the Elks' Boys' Camp. He attended St. Patrick's school, old LaSalle Institute and the Tri-State Business College and was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Born April 22, 1899, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late William. E. and Helena M. (Connell) Yarnall. Surviving are his widow, Josephine (Chapman) Yarnall; seven sisters, Mrs. George C. Frey, this city; Mrs. Joseph Cisell, Silver Spring; Mrs. James Jenkins, Leesburg, Va.; Mrs. David McLeish, Hyattsville; Mrs. Ross Skiles, Baltimore; Mrs. Maurice Stegmaier, city; Mrs. Bernard Blough, city, and a number of nephews and nieces. The body is at the Scarpelli Funeral Home where friends will be received from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9 p.m. Requiem mass will be celebrated tomorrow at 9 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. A Christian wake service will be held at the funeral home today at 7:30 p.m. The Elks will hold a service at 8 p.m. Pallbearers will be James F. Miller, John E. Byrd, Paul G. Stakem. John P. Moffatt Jr., Harry Thomas and John E. Mertens, all past exalted rulers of the Elks, and Charles S. Fields, Sr., secretary of the lodge.

PETER YARNALL DEAD ~ FOR MANY YEARS CONNECTED W ITH B & O FREIGHT OFFICE. ~ He Was a Union Veteran and Was a Native of Wheeling, W Va.  Funeral Will Take Place Monday Morning ~ On Friday afternoon at four o'clock another of Cumberland's respected citizens, Mr Peter Yarnall, was removed from the stage of life, he having passed away at that hour, at his late residence on Park Street, aged 62 years.  The deceased came to this city from Wheeling, W Va. (There are several paragraphs that are too faint to read - related to war experiences and family ancestry)  In 1864 he married Miss Mary Grannon of Cumberland, a sister of ex-Police Justice, Eugene Grannon, of Baltimore. Lonaconing - Peter Yaste, 51 years old, died Sunday in Cumberland following an illness of two years.  He was a native of Frostburg, removing here almost 26 years ago.  Surviving are his wife and children, Mrs John Shombert, Pittsburgh, Mrs Edward Hughes, Frostburg and Bessie, James and George at home.  The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the house.  The funeral party will leave on the 3 o'clock for Frostburg where burial will be made in Allegany Cemetery.

LONACONING - Allen Yates, 64, died this morning at his home on Seldom Seen Road. Born in Ocean, he was a son of the late William and Laura (Edwards) Yates. A Retired coal miner, he held membership in the United Mine Workers Union. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Marie (Anderson); a son, William Yates, Carlos; a daughter, Miss Mary M. Yates, at home; three sisters, Mrs. Donald Hawkins, National; Mrs. Ronald Gray, Frostburg, and Mrs. Leroy Shearer, Midland, and a grandchild. The body is at the Eichhorn Funeral Home where friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. and tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services at 1:30 p.m. and interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.

YATES, David Joseph Sr.

FROSTBURG - David Joseph Yates, Sr., 58, of 65 Green Street, Frostburg, went to be with his Lord, Tuesday, September 2, 2003, at Sacred Heart Hospital, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Born May 25, 1945 in Vale Summit, he was the son of the late Chester Yates, Sr. and Elsie (Perdew) Yates. Mr. Yates was employed by Lincoln Contracting and Equipment, Boswell, PA. He was a member of the UMWA Local 3245 District 2. David was a member of the Vale Summit United Methodist Church. David was an avid softball player, loved watching Nascar (especially Dale Earnhardt, Sr.) and hunting with his beagles. Surviving is his widow, Linda (Brinkman) Yates. On Sunday, August 31, 2003, they celebrated their thirtieth wedding anniversary. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Amy Lynn, Frostburg, and finance John Christopher Rowe; four sons: David Joseph Yates, Jr. and Kim Knight of Cumberland; Todd William Logsdon and wife Kristi, of Eckhart; Michael James Yates, Frostburg, and Steven David Yates, Frostburg; three grandchildren: Todd Joseph, Ashley Mae, and Jason William Logsdon; and special friends, Brandon McRobie and Alyssa Collins; one sister, Marion Ritchie, Frostburg; one brother, Chester "Buddy" Yates, Jr., and wife Barb, Grantsville; several nieces and nephews who Dave adored. Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W. Main St., Frostburg, on Wednesday from 7 to 9 and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p. m. Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park. YATES, Ernest Wynn

Ernest Wynn Yates, 80, of 46 Boone Street, died yesterday morning in Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient since August 16. Mr. Yates was one of the founders of Hillcrest Burial Park and was affiliated with that firm until 1942, when he went to work at the Kelly Springfield Tire Company as a receptionist. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias, Modern Woodmen of the World, Grace Methodist Church, and the Men's Bible Class of the church. A native of Luray, Page County, Va., Mr. Yates was born September 19, 1877, in Luray, Page Co., Va., a son of the late M. Warfield and Ann (Fristoe) Yates. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lelia Mae (Bawden) Yates; a daughter, Miss E. Annetta Yates, a member of the faculty at Fort Hill High School; one son, William Bawden Yates, Takoma Park; two grandchildren, Mrs. Daniel Bohre, College Park, and William B. Yates, Jr., College Park, and four great-grandchildren. The body is at the Scarpelli Funeral Home where services will be conducted on Saturday at 2:30 p. m. by Rev. Robert Nimon and Rev. C. H. Frostburg - Henry R. Yates, 58, of National Highway, RD , Frostburg, died yesterday at his home. Born in Frostburg, he was the son of the late Isaac and Mary (Rank) Yates and had been service manager for Potomac Edison where he had been employed for 37 years. He was a member of the National Rhododendron Society and the Big Savage Sportsmen Club. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Maletta (Lancaster) Yates; one son, Henry N. Yates, Frostburg; one sister, Mrs. Marie Lewis, Frostburg; one brother, Ellis Yates, Eckhart, and two grandchildren. The body is at the Durst Funeral Home where friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home by Rev. George L. Wehler. FROSTBURG — Mrs. Kathryn M. Yates, 74, died yesterday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harry McKenzie, Rockville, where she had resided 15 years. A native of here, she was a daughter of the late John and Jean (Chapman) Ort and was the widow of Reginald Yates. She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ. Besides her daughter, she is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Lester Batie, Laurel, and Mrs. Richard O'Leary, Upper Darby, Pa.; a brother, George Ort, Sykesville, and two grandchildren. The body will be at the Hafer-Sowers Funeral Home where friends will be received today from 7 until 9 p.m. and tomorrow from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9 p.m.

YATES, Mrs. Lelia May Bawden

Mrs. Lelia May Yates, 85, of 46 Boone Street, died Friday at Memorial Hospital. She had been in ill health the past eight years. A native of Keyser she was born December 29, 1876 a daughter of the late William and Henrietta (Parker) Bawden. Her husband, Ernest W. Yates, died in 1958. She was a member of Grace Methodist Church and active in the WCTU. For a number of of years she taught private music lessons. Survivors include a son, Williarn Bawden Yates, Takoma Park, Md.; a daughter, Miss Annetta Yates, at home, a member of the faculty of Fort Hill High School; two brothers, Dr. George A. Bawden, Baltimore, and Charles C. Bawden, Cumberland; a sister, Mrs. Grace Hansel, Cumberland, two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The body is at the Scarpelli Funeral Home where the family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p. m. and 7 to 9 p. m. Services will be conducted tomorrow at 3 p.m. in the funeral home. The Rev. FROSTBURG - Mrs. Maletta M. Yates, 75, of West National Highway, died Friday in Frostburg Community Hospital. Born in Eckhart Feb. 2, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Mary (Pape) Lancaster. Her husband, Henry R. Yates, died in 1970. Mrs. Yates was a member of Frostburg Homemakers Club and the National Rhododendron Association. Surviving are one son, Henry N. Yates, Grahamtown; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Hemphill, Hagerstown; and Mrs. Hazel Valentine, LaVale; and two grandchildren. Friends will be received in the Durst Funeral Home Saturday and Sunday. YATES, Mrs. Margaret Thomas

Frostburg, Md., March 7 — Word was received here today of the death February 26 in Williamsburg, Iowa, of Mrs. John J. Yates, 89, a former resident. She was Margaret Thomas, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Thomas, who conducted a millinery at the place now occupied by C. L. Long. Surviving are three sons, a daughter, all of Williamsburg; two sisters, Mrs. George Hanna, Mt. Vernon, Iowa, and Mrs. Elizabeth Wilson, Philadelphia, Pa.; and two brothers, John Thomas, Mt. Vernon, and William Thomas, Cleveland, Ohio, formerly employed by McMullen Brothers department store in Cumberland. She was a sister-in-law of Mrs. Philip Offman, this city.

YATES, Owen

Frostburg, Md., April 8 — Word has been received of the death of Owen Yates, aged 80 years, former resident, Mystic, Iowa, which occurred Saturday at Mystic, Iowa. Two sons, Benjamin, Los Angeles, California, and Clyde, Mystic, Iowa, and three sisters, Mrs. John C. Harris, this city, Mrs. Philip Offman and Mrs. Griffith Powell, New Cambria, Mo., and one brother, Joseph, of New Cambria, survive. Mr. Yates was a member of Frostburg City Lodge, No. 88, Knights of Pythias and was one of the group of six receiving the fifty-year medal from the lodge.

Frostburg, Feb. 19 — Word was received here of the death of Owen Yates, 65, former resident of Grahamtown, at Jacksonville, Fla. Mr. Yates returned from work Wednesday and died suddenly following a heart attack. A son of the late John and Margaret (Thomas) Yates, he is survived by his wife and one son at Jacksonville.

Frostburg, July 8 — Reginald Owen Yates, 49, 161 Greene street, died last night at Miners' Hospital where he had undergone an operation June 29. A son of the late Isaac and Jennie (Myers) Yates he was a lifetime resident of this place. He was employed in the sales department of the Green Chevrolet Company and was a member of Salem Reformed Church. Mr.Yates is survived by his wife the former Miss Katherine Ort and one daughter, Marion. He was a brother of Walter Yates, Detroit, and Isaac Yates, Grahamtown.

YATES, Walter

Walter Yates, 58, former resident of Frostburg, died early yesterday from a heart attack at his home in Detroit. Mr. Yates was the son of the late Isaac and Jennie Yates of Grahamtown. He left Frostburg about 23 years ago. He was employed in the Ford automobile factory. His widow is the former Miss Carrie Rupp. Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Marguerite Bailey, and a granddaughter, Lynn Bailey, both of Detroit. Isaac Yates, of Grahamtown, is a brother. Funeral services will be held in Detroit.

William B. Yates, 82, of 407 Russell Avenue, Ashbury Village, Gaithersburg, died Thursday at Health Care Center there. He was a former resident of Frostburg. Born March 25, 1904 in St. Louis, Mo., he was a son of the late Ernest W. and Lelia M. (Bawden) Yates. He was a banker and  former president of Fidelity Bank in Frostburg; former president of the Maryland Bankers Association; a graduate of Allegany High School, and he took numerous banking courses during his career. Surviving are his widow, Margaretha (Lapp) Yates; a son, William B. Yates, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a daughter, Mrs. Dorthea Bohrer, Silver Spring; a sister, Miss Annetta Yates, city; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Friends will be received at the Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home, White Oaks, Silver Spring. Mrs Catherine A Yeager, 62, wife of George Yeager, 74 Greene St, died yesterday at Allegany Hospital where she had been a patient since February.  A native of Ohio, she was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the Christian Mothers, the Alpine Club, the Catholic Daughters of America and the Third Order.  Surviving besides her husband, are a daughter, Miss Mary Catherine Yeager; three sons, Raymond F, Bernard G and John J Yeager, all of Cumberland, and one brother, William Froom, Akron, Ohio

FROSTBURG — Mrs. Sadie M. Yeager, 49, of 2 Ormond Street, died yesterday at Miners Hospital where she had been admitted December 18. She had been in ill health the past year. A native of Frostburg, she was a daughter of Mrs. Sadie (Bollino) LaPorta and the late Anthony LaPorta. Besides her mother she is survived by her husband, John Yeager; a daughter, Mrs. James E. Kelly, Frostburg; a son, Frank DeLuca, St. Charles College, Baltimore; one grandchild; four brothers, Ross, Joseph and Sam LaPorta, here, and Leo LaPorta, Eckhart, and three sisters, Miss Mary LaPorta and Mrs. Della Sapienza, here, and Mrs. James Caldwell, Bethel Park, Pa. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. The body is at the Hafer Funeral Home, 60 West Main Street, where friends will be received from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9 p. m. A solemn requiem mass will be celebrated in St. Michael's Catholic Church at 10 a. m. Saturday by Rev. Ross LaPorta, Rev. Gerald LaPorta, and Rev. Regis Larkin. Burial will be in St. Michael's parish cemetery.

Confluence - Mrs. Alverda G. Yeagley, 77, died at her home in Confluence. She was born in Uniontown Jan. 18, 1884, a daughter of Charles and Mary Jennings Shipley. Surviving are one son, W. E. of Confluence, one sister, Miss Odelia Shipley, and six brothers, Charles Shipley of McKeesport, Clarence of Newell, Harry of Ohiopyle and Ellwood Cleent and Otto of Beaver Falls. The funeral service was held Sunday afternoon in charge of the Rev. Russell R. Kerns. Burial was in Addison Cemetery.

YEAGLEY, Mrs. Dora Bird

Dora Bird Yeagley, Confluence's oldest citizen, aged 91 years, died Tuesday morning, March 16, at her home on Oden Street after a lingering illness of heart trouble and complications. She was born December 21, 1851, in Addison Township, a daughter of Kathryn Fike and Basil Bird, both deceased. She was united in marriage with Fred Yeagley and lived in Confluence many years, rearing a family of five children of which two preceded her in death. Surviving her are two daughters, Mrs. Laura Clouse and Ella Yeagley, of Connellsville; one son Hagan Yeagley, Connellsville; two sisters, Mrs. Lavina Nedrow of Confluence and Mrs. Mary Laub of Tarentum, and one brother, Basil Bird, Confluence. Six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held in the Humbert Funeral Parlors Thursday afternoon, with Rev. Burson in charge. Interment in the Union Cemetery.

Elizabeth (Black) Yeagley, 90, of Confluence, died July 9, 2003 in Brandon, Fla. Born Feb. 21, 1913 in Confluence, daughter of the late Charles "Bert" Black and Daisy (James) Black. Predeceased by her husband, Wendell E. Yeagley on March 13, 1995. Survived by her son Charles E. Yeagley and daughter-in-law Linda Yeagley, Brandon, Fla.; also two grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Yeagley of Brandon and Jason D. Yeagley of Lakeland, Fla. Pa.: John Corrigan, Baltimore; Frank Corrigan, Lonaconing; Leo Corrigan, of California, and Patrick and James Corrigan, both of Aliquippa, Pa., and two grandchildren. The body will be at the home of Mrs. Carter in Midland this evening. A requiem mass will be celebrated Friday at 9 a. m. in St. Joseph's Catholic Church. YERGAN, Harry F.

Services and interment were conducted recently in Cleveland for Harry F. Yergan, formerly of 404 Maryland Avenue, who died September 18 in Bayview Hospital, Cleveland. He had been in ill health for several years. Mr. Yergan was the son of the late Frederick and Clara Yergan, and was preceded in death by his wife, Ocie (Bucy) Yergan. Surviving are one brother Clarence Yergan; two sisters, Mrs. Macon L. Coleman, Cumberland, and Miss Theresa Yergan, Silver Spring; three children; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

YERGAN, Mrs. Maggie D. Baer

Mrs. Maggie D. Yergan, 77, formerly of John F. Kennedy Apartments, died yesterday in Avalon Nursing Home, Hagerstown, where she had resided two years. Born in Keystone, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Nathaniel and Amanda (Lyberger) Baer. Her husband, John W. Yergan, preceded her in death. Mrs. Yergan was formerly employed at the Crystal Laundry and was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church Surviving are one son, Charles L. Yergan, this city; one sister, Mrs. Mae Bush, city; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Kight Funeral Home today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p. m. Services will be conducted there tomorrow at 3 p. m. with Rev. Vernon I. Naugle officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.

Jean Evans Yester, 83, of Terra Alta, died Friday, July 10,2009, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital. She was born September II, 1925, in Terra Alta, a daughter of the late E.S. and Emma Belle Thomas Evans. She was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church, Terra Alta, and owned and operated E.S. Evans Ford Dealership with her husband for many years. She was an honorary member of the Terra Alta Civic Club. She enjoyed her Bridge Club and traveling abroad. She is survived by three sons and spouse, Tom and Oni Yester, Steve Yester and Gary Yester, all of Morgantown; two sisters, Ruth Teets, of Terra Alta and Fay Cooper, of Elkins; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dean Martin Yester; and a sister, Sue Gebhart. A memorial services was held Sunday, July 12, at the First United Methodist Church, Terra Alta. Burial will be at a later date in the Terra Alta Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 313, Terra Alta, WV 26764. Arthur Wright Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.

LAVALE — Anthony Joseph “Tony” Yockus, 84, of National Highway, LaVale, died Friday, Sept. 15, 1995, at his residence. Born June 11, 1911, in Aurora, Illinois, he was the son of the late Anton Yockus and Mary (Ochernick) Yockus. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, Paul, and Joe Yockus. Mr. Yockus retired as a supervisor with the Celanese Corp. after 48 years of service. His family immigrated from Yugoslavia to the United States. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church; the Holy Name Society; Knights of Columbus Council 586; Chief Justice Taney, Fourth Degree; and the Cumberland Historic Cemetery Organization. Surviving are his wife, Marie (Lindner) Yockus; two sons, Joseph A. Yockus and wife Jackie, Cumberland, and Paul J. Yockus and wife Linda, Cumberland; three grandsons, Ryan Yockus, Cumberland, Scott Yockus, Richmond, Va., and Mark Yockus, Scottsdale, Ariz.; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Yockus, Cumberland, and Jennifer Yockus, Tuscson, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews. CUMBERLAND — Florence Gertrude Yockus, 87, of the Cumberland Nursing Home, formerly of Nave’s Crossroads, Cumberland, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 1996, at the nursing home. Born Nov. 24, 1908, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late George Lindner and Florence Eliza (Bramble) Lindner. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Frank J. Yockus in 1967 (sic 1968). She was the last surviving member of the immediate Lindner family. Mrs. Yockus was a member of SS. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church and a member of the Secular Franciscan Order. Surviving are one son, Frank J. Yockus and wife, Mona, Orlando, Fla.; one daughter, Mary Yockus Hartman and husband, Peter, Cumberland; three grandchildren, Amy Hartman and Jason Hartman of Cumberland, and Dr. Sean Yockus, Coral Springs, Fla., and two great-grandchildren, Connor and Caitlin Yockus, Coral Springs. CUMBERLAND — Joseph A. Yockus, 66, of Cumberland, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007, at WMHS, Memorial Campus. Born June 21, 1940, in Cumberland he was the son of the late Anthony Joseph and Marie (Lindner) Yockus.  Joe was a graduate of LaSalle High School class of 1958 and attended Strayers Business College. He served with the Maryland National Guard and was President/Owner of Schmutz, Harrison and Yockus Insurance and Real Estate Company. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and was a commissioner with the Maryland State Park Commission. He was past president of the Cumberland Board of Realtors, Cumberland Lions Club, YMCA Board of Directors, and he was past Chairman of the Cumberland Zoning Board. He was also a member of the Maryland Association of Independent Insurance Agents, the Allegany County Association of Independent Insurance Agents, American Legion Fort Cumberland Post 13, Knights of Columbus Cumberland Council 586, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 245 and the Goodfellowship Club. Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Jacquelyn R. (Shaffer) Yockus; three sons, Scott E. Yockus and wife Ashley, Atlanta, Ga., Mark A. Yockus and wife Thea, Phoenix, Ariz., and Ryan J. Yockus and fiancé Melanie Hughes, Phoenix; four grandchildren, Nikki, Haley, Maxwell and Zoe; one brother, Paul Yockus and wife Linda, LaVale; mother-in-law, Rose M. (Counihan) Shaffer, Cumberland; three sisters-in-law, Patricia A. Souza and husband Jim, Hawaii, Michele M. Puderbaugh and husband Richard, Cumberland; and Roberta L. Born in Grantsville, she was a daughter of the late Elmer and Althea (Otto) Peachy. She was a member of the Pinto Mennonite Church. Surviving are her husband, Claude H. Yoder; two sons, Olin L. Yoder, Baltimore, and Gary A. Yoder, McHenry; two daughters, Mrs. Edward Yoder, Bel Air, Md., and Mrs. Robert O'Brien, London, England; two brothers, Ellsworth Beachy and Morris Beachy, both of Grantsville; two sisters, Mrs. Gladys Warnick, Baltimore, and Mrs. Maxine Broadwater, Grantsville, and four grandchildren. Judith Ann Yoder, 65, of Springs, Pa., died Monday, November 24, 2003, at Conemaugh Memorial Hospital, Johnstown, Pa. Born August 2, 1938, in St. Paul, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Jack D. and Grace(Bodes) Pyle. Mrs. Yoder was a member of Springs Mennonite Church, where she taught Sunday School, Bible School and was Church librarian for more than 20 years. She previously taught Sunday School at St. John's United Church of Christ in Salisbury and was a member of the Springs Historical Society. She was the book department manager and buyer for Yoder's Country Market, Grantsville, Md., and also operated a bookshop from her home. Surviving are her husband, Richard I. Martha Naomi Maust Yoder, 102, Grantsville, died Wednesday, March 29, 2006, at Meyersdale Hospital, Meyersdale, Pa. Born Aug. 14, 1903, in Meyersdale, she was a daughter of the late Lewis and Amelia (Orendorf) Maust. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Alvin H. Yoder, Nov. 27, 1993; one daughter, Ruth Tice; one infant brother; two sisters, Norma Bender and Anna Bender; and three brothers, Alvin, Omar, and Elmer. She was baptized in the Conservative Mennonite church. She was involved with the church sewing circle and the Mennonite Central Committee. Surviving are six sons, Clark A. Yoder, Salisbury, Pa., Kenneth, Roman, Ezra, and James Yoder, all of Grantsville, and Mark Yoder, Berlin, Pa.; three daughters, Cora Anna Yoder, Salisbury, and Ellen Yoder and Mary Opel, both of Grantsville; 37 grandchildren; 71 great-grandchil-dren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren. Friends were received at Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville. A service was held on Saturday, April 1, at the Maple Glen Mennonite Church, with Rev. Philip Moser and Rev. Robert Yoder officiating. Children Fatally Injured
A half-brother and sister are reported to have died instantly yesterday morning when the push vehicle they were riding was hit by a car as they proceeded onto Route 669, two miles west of Salisbury, Pa., in Somerset County.
Pennsylvania State Police at Somerset said Titus B. Fisher, three, and Mary L. Yoder, six, both of Star Route, Springs, Pa., were killed about 10 a.m. Wilbur E. Miller, Somerset County coroner, told State Police their deaths were caused by broken necks and skull fractures.
State Police at Somerset said the two children were riding a power mower from which the blades and mower had been removed so that it could be used as a push toy.
The vehicle was being pushed down a private drive at their father’s home by Moses L. Yoder, eight, another half-brother. As the vehicle carrying the two children approached Route 669, State Police reported, Yoder let go of the handle, and allowed the push vehicle to move freely into the path of a north bound car.
Marian Shoemaker of Springs was driving the 1975 Chevrolet Impala that hit the vehicle and the children. State Police said visibility at the scene was limited because of high weeds.
Somerset County Control sent Salisbury Ambulance to the scene. Mrs. Shoemaker was transported to Meyersdale, Pa. Community Hospital, where she was allegedly treated for shock and released. State Police at Somerset said the investigation into the accident is continuing.
Mary L. Yoder was born in Meyersdale, Nov. 3, 1974, a daughter of Annie B. Yoder Fisher and the late Lewis P. Yoder. Besides her mother, she is survived by four brothers, Ray, John, Peter and Moses Yoder, all at home; three sisters, Martha and Rhoda Yoder and Miriam Fisher, all at home; the maternal grandparents, John and Barbara (Peightl Yoder, Oakland, and paternal grandparents, Pete A. and Dora (Yoder) Yoder, Salisbury, Pa.
Titus B. Fisher was born Dec. 6, 1977 in Meyersdale, a son of Bennie N. Fisher and Annie B. Yoder Fisher. Besides his father and mother and brothers and sisters, he is survived by the paternal grandparents Noah B. and Annie (Petersheim) Fisher, Springs.
Joint services will be conducted Friday at 9:30 a.m. EST, in the Niverton Old Order Amish Church, with the Rev. Bennie A.Yoder officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Thomas Funeral Home, Salisbury, is in charge of arrangements.

YODER, Simon T.

Simon T. Yoder, 90, passed away at his home in Washington, Kansas, June 21. He was born in Stonycreek township, a son of Benedict and Sara Miller Yoder, and was one of a family of 13. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Florence Mostollar of Listie; two daughters, Mrs. Ora M. Wood of Topeka, Kansas, and Mrs. Bess Smith of Washington, Kansas, and two sons, Charles and Frank Yoder, both residing in Kansas. Mr. Yoder was twice married. His first wife, Harriet Rhoades Yoder, died November 22, 1884, and his second wife, Anna Yoder, died March, 1941. Funeral services were held at the late residence and also in the Methodist church in Washington, with interment in the cemetery at that place.

CUMBERLAND - Reathel Mildred (Wilkins) Yoders, 98, of Cumberland, died Friday, March 21, 2008, at Devlin Manor Nursing Home. Born March 15, 1910, in Inkerman, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin Wilkins and Arsina (Saville) Wilkins. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Frank L. Carroll, her second husband, William Yoders; three sons, H. Leo Carroll, Donald Carroll, and Kenneth "Jackie" Carroll; two daughters, Hameline Hardman and Helen Yvonne Carroll; and seven brothers and sisters. Mrs. Yoders had worked at the Celanese Corporation, the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company, and the Algonquin Hotel. Survivors include her two daughters, Sylvia Hedrick, of LaVale, and Janet Hudson, of Bunker Hill, W.Va.; 19 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Stephen F. Yelovich officiating. Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Just at the time of going to press, we learn of the death of Daniel Yokum, a highly respected citizen of Pansy. Mr Yokum was 63 years old. His death was caused by cancer of the stomach. He was taken sick last February and had been confined to his bed for several weeks and for the last twelve weeks he was unable to take any nourishment except a little milk once or twice a day.

GRANTSVILLE - Bruce Yommer, 57-year-old retired farmer, died of a heart condition Sunday at his home in Jennings. Born in Grantsville, he was the son of the late Lewis and Mary Jane (Otto) Yommer. He was a member of Grantsville Reformed Church. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Jessie Yommer; ten sons, Oney, Harold, Jack, Richard, Willard, Homer, and Hubert Yommer, all at home; Osburn Yommer, Clarksburg, W. Va.; Harry Yommer, stationed with the Army in Africa; Joseph Yommer, stationed with the Air Force in Chicago; three daughters, Mrs. Helen Stefani, Norwalk, Conn.; Mrs. Joseph Cross, Paw Paw, W. Frostburg, Md., - March 29 — Mrs. Catherine Martha Yommer, 71, wife of Clarence H. Yommer, Grantsville, Md., died at 4 p. m., yesterday in Miners' Hospital here. She was a native of Garrett county. Besides her husband she is survived by eleven children, born of a former marriage. They are Harvey Knepp, Sand Patch, Pa.; John E. Knepp, French Creek, W. Va.; Charles, James and George Knepp, Frostburg; Mrs. George McDonald, Cresaptown, Md.; Mrs. Raymond Beeman, Mt. Savage; Mrs. Ellsworth Thomas, Flint, Mich.; Mrs. Lloyd Yutz, Uniontown, Pa.; Mrs. William Fraley, Lonaconing, Md., and Mrs. Merlin Rudasill, Frederick, Md. She is also survived by one brother, John Matthias, Meyersdale, Pa. The body was removed to the home of her son, Charles Knepp, 120 Water street, this city. The cortege will leave the Knepp home at 1 p. m., Wednesday, for Temple Church, near Deal, Pa., where funeral services will be held at 3 p. m. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

John Yommer, Sr., who has been ill with pneumonia at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Richard Younkin, Grantsville, died Friday evening. Mr. Yommer, who was born in Germany and lived the greater part of his life in Grantsville, was 84 years old. He was a shoemaker. He is survived by the following children: Mrs. Charles Durst and Charles Yommer, Elk Lick, Pa., Mrs. Richard Younkin. Grantsville; Mrs. Lis(?) Daniels, Cumberland, and Mrs. Robert Trafford, Pittsburgh, Pa.; also a number of grandchildren. Funeral service will be held Monday morning at 10 o'clock at the Grantsville Lutheran Church in charge of Rev. S. B. Sigler. Interment will be in Grantsville cemetery.

Her husband, Charles Yommer, preceded her in death June 5, 1941. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ here. Surviving are two daughters Mrs. Sarah Hoover, Salisbury RD 1, and Mrs. Esther Durst, Grantsville; a step-son, Harrison C. Yommer, RD 1; two step-daughters, Mrs. Beulah Patton, Windsor Heights, W. Va., and Mrs. Bessie Kingsinger, Canton, Ohio; 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. The body is at the Thomas Funeral Home where friends will be received. Richard Harrison Yonker, 91, of Town Creek Road, Flintstone, died Sunday, October 6, 2002, in his residence. Born January 15, 1911, in Shaw, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Rutledge and Martha Ellen (Ravenscroft) Yonker. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife Helen Virginia Yonker in 2001, a daughter Virginia Yonker Tribbett in 1982, and a brother Robert W. Yonker. Richard was a member of Flintstone United Methodist Church, and was retired as a farmer and lumberman, having worked with his father and brother, and was a member of the Allegany County Farm Bureau. Surviving is a granddaughter, Rhonda Hodgdon and husband Lance of Salisbury, MD, two great-granddaughters Dana Noelle Hodgdon and Kendra Yale Hodgdon, a son-in-law Tom Tribbett of Frostburg, and a brother, Francis R. Yonker of Flintstone. Friends will be received at the Hafer Funeral Service, P.A. Chapel of the Hills, 1302 National Hwy., LaVale, on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. and Wednesday from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 noon at which time funeral services will be held in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Odell McKenzie Young, 66, of 1104 McMullen Highway, died Saturday in University Hospital, Baltimore, where he was admitted March 8. He had been ill three months. Born in Salisbury, N.C, he he[sic] was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Young. A member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, he was veteran of Would War I. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Catherine (Leighty) Young; one son, James H. Young, Potomac Park; two sisters, Mrs. Odie Martin, Morrisville, S. C., and Mrs. Delia McLemore, Arendes Pass, Texas, and two grandchildren. He was the owner of Amcelle Tavern. He was a member of the Methodist Church. Mary Virginia Yost died at the home of her son, Rev. G. W. Yost, last Friday morning. She had reached the age of 73 years and 8 months and was ripe for the harvest. Her life was fraught with many hardships and much suffering; but she fought its battles in the strength of the Lord and the power of His might, and died triumphant in the faith in which she had so confidently lived.
The funeral services were conducted at the home Saturday at 3 p.m. by Rev. A.A.P. Neel, assisted by Rev. Frank Roberts, and the body was laid to rest in the family burying ground.

Yost, 76, Oakland, died Tuesday in the Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home, Oakland.  Born in Lonaconing, she was a daughter of the late Allen B. and May McKenzie.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry L. Yost, Sr., who died in 1973.  She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. V. June Holkamp, Lewisville, Ky.; four sons, Harry L. Yost, Jr., Oakland, J. Allen Yost, Westminster, William L. Yost, Virginia Beach, Va.; and Maylon W. Yost, Oakland; one brother Sheridan McKenzie, Westernport; 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.  Friends will be received in the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.  A service will be conducted there on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. with Rev Stephen Wilson and Rev. Paul Poland officiating.  Interment will follow in Garrett County Memorial Gardens.

William Lawrence Yost, 49, died suddenly yesterday morning about 7 o'clock at his home, 1002 Lexington avenue. He had been employed as a clerk at the local B. and O. Railroad callers office. Besides his mother, Mrs. Ellen E. (Gray) Yost, with whom he made his home, he is also survived by three sons, Bernard with the U. S. Navy at Manila; Conrad and Curtis, both of this city; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Julie Krampf, and Mrs. Kathryn Whisner, both of this city. He was a native of Martinsburg, W. Va. He was a son of the late John W. Yost. Burial in Hillcrest Cemetery, Tuesday morning.

DEER PARK - Mrs. Edith Young, 85, of here, died yesterday shortly after being admitted to Garrett County Memorial Hospital. A native of Jefferson County, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Abraham and Susan (Locke) Lloyd. Mrs. Young was the widow of Edward L. Young and the couple moved here in 1934 from North Branch. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. D.W. Loomis, Chapel Hill, N.C., and a grandson. The body is at the Leighton Funeral Home, Oakland, and will be taken to the residence Saturday morning. Services will be conducted there Saturday at 10:30 a.m. by Rev. Thomas P. Staup, vicar of St. John's Episcopal Church. Burial will be in Fort Ashby (W.Va.) Cemetery.

Mrs. Edith Madore Young, 76, of 105 South Lee Street, died suddenly Monday at her residence. A life-long resident of this city, she was born here December 2, 1894, a daughter of the late L. Clark and Lavinia (Heintz) Madore. Her husband, Robert Wellington Young, died March 24, 1958. Mrs. Young was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Women's Society of Christian Service, teacher in the Adult Women's Bible Class, member of the Council of Church Women United; Women's Civic Club of Cumberland and North Branch Homemakers Club. She was a graduate of Frosturg State Normal School, Class of 1913. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. A. Ridgeley (Thelma) Friedel, North Ridge, Calif., four grandchildren, and a great-grandchild. FROSTBURG — Raymond E. Young, of Clinton, died Thursday at Southern Maryland Hospital Center there. Burial services were held April 23 with interment in Aquasco, Md. He was a son of the late Joseph H. and Margaret (Gibbons) Young and was the husband of the late Nellie (Hohing) Young, a native of Frostburg. He is survived by a number of nieces and nephews of this area.

Mrs. Regina Pearl Young, 70, of 1428 Church Street, died Monday in Memorial Hospital. Born in Cumberland Oct. 22, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Cecelia (Whitacre) McKenzie. Her husband, Harry E. Young Sr., died in 1970. Mrs. Young retired from Sacred Heart Hospital in the Dietary Department. She was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Hospital Auxiliary, and SS. Peter and Paul Confraternity of Christian Mothers. Surviving are one son, Harry E. Young Jr., Cumberland; one daughter, Mrs. Delores A. Arnett, Littleton, Col.; one brother William McKenzie, Cumberland, and three grandchildren. Friends will be received in the Leasure-Stein Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. FROSTBURG — Mrs. Rose Young, 84, a native of Frostburg, died Tuesday in Cleveland following an illness of several years. She was a daughter of the late Conrad and Katherine (Krapf) Lapp and the widow of Robert W. Young of Cumberland and Frostburg. Surviving are three daughters, Dr. Anna Beard, Cleveland Heights, Ohio; Mrs. Louise McNeeley, Youngstown, Ohio, and Mrs. Helen Meighen, Savannah, Ga.; brother, William S. Lapp, Los Angeles; a sister, Mrs. Mary Peel, Baltimore, and five grandchildren. The body will be at the Durst Funeral Home here tomorrow afternoon and services will be conducted there Saturday at 2:30 p. m. by Rev. William J. Yingling, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Miss Ruth Madore Young, 29, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Young, 516 Cumberland Street, died yesterday at Rosewood School, Owings. Miss Young is survived by her parents, and a sister, Mrs. A. Ridgeley Fridel, Dallas, Texas. Services will be held at the Stein Funeral Home tomorrow at 3:30 p. m. Rev. Norman O. Passenger train No 1, last night instantly killed William M. Young father of Rev. Robert Young, for several years assistant secretary of the B&O YMCA, but now pastor of the United Brethren Church at Maysville, W. Va. Mr. Young was a native of Bathgate, Scotland, having come to this country only a short time ago to visit his son and to see the land of "Golden Promise". While here his natural talent for being employed led him to take a position with the contractors, remodelling the Queen City hotel. He worked at this occupation and spent his evenings at the B & O  YMCA where he was a companion to his son then working as assistant secretary and studying for the ministry. Since his son was ordained a minster he has been arranging to return to his old home place, declaring that he would make one more trip across the ocean and that would be for home.

LONACONING - Harry Youngblood, 54, former Midland councilman, died at Sacred Heart Hospital Wednesday. He was the son of the late Harry L. Youngblood and Margaret P. (Smith) Youngblood. Mr. Youngblood was an employe of the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company. He was a past president of the Midland Volunteer Fire Company; member of Pope John Council Knights of Columbus, Cresaptown; member of Chief Justice Taney Fourth Degree K of C, Cumberland; Midland American Legion Post; and the Midland Sportsmen's Club. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Anastasia (McGann) Youngblood; three daughters, Mrs. Maryetta Fradiska, Frederick; Mrs. Carletta Yaider, Old Furnace Road; Mrs. Elizabeth Llewellyn, here; and the following other children: Joyce Youngblood, Peggy Youngblood, Stacie Youngblood , Kevin Youngblood and Patrick Youngblood, all at home; James Youngblood, Dundalk; Paul Youngblood, Schellsburg, Pa.; Dennis Youngblood, Midland; and Harry Youngblood, with the Marines at Camp Lejuene. FROSTBURG - Mrs. Annabelle (Winebrenner) Youngerman, 97, formerly of Frost Village and more recently of the Frostburg Village Nursing Home, died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 1988, at Frostburg Community Hospital. Born here, she was the daughter of the late David Winebrenner and Jane (Hawkins) Winebrenner Burnell. Mrs. Youngerman’s husband, Milton J. Youngerman, died in 1958. She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ and the Ladies Aid of the church. Survivors include four sons, Milton J. Youngerman, Swissvale, Pa.; Robert Youngerman, Pittsburgh, Pa.; Philip Youngerman, Holiday, Fla.; and Walter R. Youngerman, Clinton, Md.; two daughters, Florence N. Steakin, Tuckerton, N.J.; and Alleen Merican, Frostburg; one sister, Gladys Henderson, of the Frostburg Village Nursing Home; one brother, Charles Burnell, Pittsburgh; 15 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. Frostburg, Oct. 3 - Justus Youngerman, 80, native of Frostburg, died this morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Hartig, 129 Pine street. Mr. Youngerman, a retired miner and former member of the police force, had been ill a year. He is also survived by two other daughters, Mrs. Charles E. Cramer, East McKeesport, Pa., and Miss Roselin Youngerman, at home; three sons, Milton, of Braddock, Pa.; George, of Detroit; Walter, of Frostburg; and two sisters, Mrs. Sophie Layman, of Walnut Levels, and Mrs. Annie Baum, of near New Germany. He was a member of Freedom Council, No. 75, Jr. O.U.A.M. and of Salem Reformed Church. The body was taken to his home, 146 West Main street.

Melchoir Youngerman, born Nov. 17, 1836, at Hilligessousen, Kerhessen, Germany, emigrated to the United States in 1854.  Married Miss Anna Martha Rase in 1855, died at Frostburg, Md., Sept. 5, 1912 in his 76th year.  He left the following children: Mrs. John Pressman, Jr.,  Barbara Shell, Mrs. Anna Baum, of Cumberland, Mrs. Sophia Layman, J.C. Youngerman, Justis Youngerman and John Youngerman.  The funeral will take place tomorrow at 2 p.m. with services at the house, Rev. Geo. E. Metger officiating.  The funeral will be in charge of the Red Men.  Interment will be made in the Percy cemetery.

Frostburg - William M. Youngerman, 73, died yesterday in Cuppett Nursing Home, Oakland, where he had been a patient 16 months. Born in Frostburg he was a son of the Conrad and Margaretr (Schell) Youngerman. His wife, Margaret (Niner) Youngerman preceded him in death. He was a member of Salem United CHurch of Christ. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Charles Keating, Mrs. Edward Moran and Mrs. Ernest Brumage, all of here; two sons, William R., and Harold Youngerman, both of here; two sisters, Mrs. Martha Hosken and Mrs. Ida McCullough, both of here and 10 grandchildren. YOUNKIN, Albert

CONFLUENCE, Oct. 11 - A heart attack, superinduced by over exertion and near suffocation, caused the death of Albert Younkin, 73 years old, Thursday afternoon as he fought a fire in the basement of the Yeagley Restaurant which caused damage of approximately $53,000. Younkin, who had been employed as a handyman at the restaurant and looked after the furnace, among other things, was eating his evening meal as were several patrons when he smelled smoke. He went into the cellar to the furnace to investigate. (several paragraphs about the fire) Deceased, who was unmarried, was born March 16, 1867, and had spent practically all of his life here. For a time he was in the lumber business, but in recent years had been a handyman, looking after the furnace and otherwise helping out at the restaurant. Younkin, who roomed at the home of a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ella Younkin, is survived by two brothers, J. C. Younkin and Henry Younkin of Confluence, and two sisters, Mrs. J. W. Gerhart of Meyersdale and Mrs. Anna McClintock of Connellsville. The funeral service will be held Sunday afternoon, the hour to be announced later, at the home of Mrs. Ella Younkin with Rev. J. O. Martin, pastor of the Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Kingwood Cemetery.

YOUNKIN, Bernard C.

Grantsville, Feb. 14 — The funeral of Bernard C. Younkin, 26; who died Sunday night in Miners' Hospital, Frostburg, from a fractured skull, when struck by a falling pole, will be held at 9 o'clock Wednesday morning from St. Stephen's Catholic Church here. Burial will be In Grantsville cemetery. He was a member of the Grantsville Fire Department and Woodmen of the World Camp at Grantsville.Younkin, with several others, was helping in the erection of poles for a private electric light line from the National Highway to the lodge of Marshall Pressman, Frostburg, along the Castleman River. A 35-feet pole being raised with pike poles slipped and began to fall. Younkin stumbled and fell as he stepped to the side, and the toppling pole struck him back of the head. He was brought to the hospital about 5 o'clock and died several hours later. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Younkin; two sisters, Rosella, at home, and Sister Eileen, St. Monica's convent, Milwaukee, Wis.

GRANTSVILLE — Mrs. Emma Younkin, 77, of here, died yesterday in Meyersdale (Pa.) Community Hospital. She had been in ill health five years. A native of Garrett County, she was a daughter of the late John and Sarah (Christner) McKenzie. Her husband, Milton Younkin, preceded her in death. YOUNKIN, Mrs. Ida A. Burkholder

Mrs. Ida A. Younkin, 67, of Mill Run, died at 9:45 a.m. Monday in her home, after an extended illness. She was born July 6, 1898, at Confluence, R. D., Somerset County, a daughter of the late James and Jennie Hartzell Burkholder, and had lived in Mill Run for approximately 20 years. She was a member of Wesley Chapel Methodist Church and the Woman's Society of Christian Service and Ladies' Aid Society of the Mill Run E.U.B. Church. She was vice president of the Tried and True Sunday School Class of the latter church, and also was a member of the Springfield Township school board until she resigned two months ago due to ill health. Surviving are her husband, James Frank Younkin, with whom she celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Oct. 21, 1964; two sons, Fay and Hubert of Rockwood, R. D. 3; two daughters, Mrs. Vance (Esther) Humes of San Diego, Calif., and Mrs. William (Lois Jean) Hensel of Scottdale; nine grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Rebecca Minerd of Somerset; two brothers, Ralph Burkholder of West Mifflin and Dan Burkholder of Poplar Grove, and a half-brother, Russell Burkholder of Mill Run, R. D. 1. A son, Eugene, died Feb. 24, 1922. The body will be at the Brooks funeral home at Indian Head after 7 p.m. today. The funeral service will be held there at 1 p.m. Thursday, with the Rev. A Grantsville area man died yesterday at West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh, of injuries he sustained Thursday when a crane struck a high tension line along U. S. Route 40 near Markleysburg, Pa. It was reported that Lloyd B. Younkin, 43, of RD 1, Grantsville, was working on a crane which was unloading concrete blocks when the crane came in contact with the high tension line. He was taken to the Pittsburgh hospital where he died yesterday. A native of Elk Lick Township, he was a son of Mrs. Beulah Briskey, Somerset, and the late Lloyd M. Younkin. Mr. Younkin was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Salisbury, Glade View Rod and Gun Club and Salisbury Hunting Club and Somerset Pistol League. Besides his mother, he is survived by his widow, Elizabeth Ann (Werner) Younkin. The body is at the Thomas Funeral Home in Salisbury, where Friends will be received from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9 p.m. A service will be conducted there Friday at 2 p.m., with Rev. David E. Fetter officiating. Interment will be in Reformed Cemetery, Meyersdale.

She had been bedfast since last September. She was a member of St. John's Reformed Church. Born in Iowa, she spent much of her life in Pennsylvania and Maryland. Surviving are six sisters, Mrs. C. A. Ervin 'Ivan' Yutzy, Swanton, died Thursday, Aug. 12, 1999, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.  Born in Frostburg, he was a son of the late Elmer and Emma (Baker) Yutzy.  He had been employed as a truck driver for Fike’s Vault Co., and also at the Somerset Foundry, Diehl’s Exxon Station, and Clapper’s Building Supply Co.  He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict and served on board the USS Enterprise aircraft carrier.  Survivors include his wife, Agnes Viola (McKenzie) Yutzy; three sons, Ivan Julius Yutzy, Somerset, Pa., Thomas Yutzy, Florida, and Gerald Keith Yutzy, Grantsville; two brothers, Cobey Yutzy, Frostburg, and Harold Yutzy, Mount Savage; two sisters, Mae Margaret Hoover, Frostburg, and Rosella Lottig, Philadelphia, Pa.; and six grandchildren.  Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, where a service was conducted Monday, Aug. 16, with the Rev. Duane Frederick officiating. Interment was in the Meadow Mountain Mennonite Cemetery.  Expressions of sympathy may be directed in care of the family.

YUTZY, Melvin James

MEYERSDALE — Melvin James Yutzy, 51, of RD 4, a flagman on the B & 0 Railroad's Tunnel division, died Saturday in Meyersdale Community Hospital. He was a native of Greenville Township, a son of the late Allan G. and Matilda (Miller) Yutzy. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lillie E. (Baer) Yutzy; three sons, Donald P. Yutzy, Detroit; Darrell E. Yutzy, Somerset, and Dale L. Yutzy, Meyersdale; two daughters, Mrs. Milton Gnagy Jr. and Mrs. Robert Ohler, both of here; two brothers, Earl Yutzy of here and Robert Yutzy of Akron; and three sisters, Mrs. George Glime, Detroit; Mrs. Edgar Spaugy, Akron; and Mrs. Margaret Snyder, of here. Services will be held tomorrow with burial in Greenville Union Cemetery.

YUTZY, Paul E.

MEYERSDALE — Paul E. Yutzy, 34, of RD 3, Meyersdale, died suddenly at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland. Born in Greenville Township, he was a son of John L. and Evora (Miller) Yutzy. He was a veteran of the Korean War and was employed by the Queen City Dairy in Cumberland. He was a member of Hostetler Church of the Brethren and the LOO Moose of Meyersdale. Also surviving are his widow, Yvonne (Baker) Yutzy; two children, Dean and Deborah Yutzy, both at home; five brothers, Leonard, Clyde and Glenn Yutzy, all of RD 3, Meyersdale; Carl Yutzy, Hampton, Va., and James Yutzy, Akron, Ohio, and four sisters, Mrs. Mary Michaels, Mrs. Ruth Paul and Mrs. Thelma Baker, all of RD 3, Meyersdale, and Mrs. Grace Bittner, California, Pa. The body is at the Thomas Funeral Home, Salisbury, where services will be conducted tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. by Rev. Daniel Whitacre. Burial will be in Hostetler Cemetery.

YUTZY, Scott G.

SPRINGS, Pa. — Scott G. Yutzy, 86, of Springs, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007, at Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville. Born April 11, 1920, in Garrett, he was the son of the late Samuel and Eleanor (Baker) Yutzy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ilse G. (Wiemert) Yutzy, Dec. 3, 2000 (sic: December 5); one brother and one sister. Mr. Yutzy was a retired Chief Warrant Officer with the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Marion, Illinois Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Ansar Shrine, Springfield, Illinois. A U.S. Army veteran of WW 2 and the Korean War, he was a member of the Salisbury American Legion and VFW. He is survived by three sons, Rudolph R. Yutzy, of Fayetteville, N.C.; Scott E. Yutzy and Robert A. Yutzy, both of Springs; two daughters, Trudy I. Hutzel, of Salisbury and Heidi M. Rounds, of Frostburg; six grandchildren, Heidi Parker, Jodi Stein, Shawn Hutzel, Jessi Davis, Rodney Rounds and Lane Rounds; and four great grandchildren, Cortney, Anika and Jordan Stein and Brittany Parker. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. David E. Fetter officiating. Interment will be in Springs Cemetery where military graveside rites will be accorded by Salisbury American Legion. Meyersdale Lodge 554, F. & A.M. will hold a Masonic memorial service Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

YUTZY, Theodore F.

MEYERSDALE — Theodore F. Yutzy, 65, of RD 1, Garrett, died yesterday at the VA Hospital in Altoona. Born in Somerset, RD l, he was a son of the late Norman and Bertha (Crise) Yutzy. Surviving are his widow, Etha (Brant) Yutzy; a daughter, Miss Christina Yutzy, at home; two stepsons, Barry and Kenneth Brant, Fort Myers, Fla.; three bothers, George and Hubert Yutzy, Baltimore, and Roy Yutzy of Alabama; four sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Bell, Baltimore; Mrs. Emaline Davis, Roanoke, Va.; Mrs. Alverta Koontz, Somerset, and Mrs. Dolly Imhoff, here, and five step-grandchildren. Friends are being received at the Price Funeral Home. A service will be conducted there tomorrow at 2 p.m. with Rev. Paul Snyder officiating. Interment will be in Somerset County Memorial Park.
