- EXPLORING WESTERN MARYLAND
A wonderful travelogue that appeared in the Washington Post (1998) describing the many sites and beauty of Western Maryland.
- FASHION ERAS
Period Fashions from early 1800's to 20th century. This site has information on the different styles of clothing worn, which may help in dating an old photo. Another link sent to me by JaniceCooper http://www.ooshirts.com/guides/Fashion-Through-Time.html Some information for those interested in fashion, though not really for those hoping to date old photos.

Contributor based information on Allegany County families. Since Garrett Co. was once a part of Allegany Co., make sure you check both Allegany & Garrett Counties. Many families also lived in both counties, at one time or another.

- Civil War Research Project
An ongoing project
Somerset County Men and Women involved in the Civil War consisting of over 6000 names span.
- CIVIL WAR SOLDIERS & SAILORS
The (U.S.) National Parks Service website indexing the names of over 5.4 million Civil War Servicemen, who fought for the Union or the Confederacy. You can search by name and location, etc. This is a work in progress and not all those who served have been indexed/listed.
- Family Search (LDS)
One of the largest collections of family records in the world, provided by the Church of the Latter Day Saints (LDS). Data is added constantly by volunteers. You will find obits, vital records, wills/probate, member family trees and much more. This site and all the information is completely free, though links [i.e. Fold 3, Ancestry] off site, may charge a fee, to view actual document images.
- GARRETT CO ROOTSWEB
Contributor based information on Garrett Co. families. Since Garrett Co. was once a part of Allegany Co., make sure you check both Allegany & Garrett Counties. Many families also lived in both counties, at one time or another.

State of Maryland's Vital Records Online. This site is frequently down and can be slow. Be patient and check back often.

- Meyersdale Special Collection
Obituaries from many local area newspapers.
- MT. SAVAGE HISTORICAL SOCIETY
Beautiful pictures of Mt. Savage, then and now, along with lots of historical information for the area. Many of our families lived in Mt. Savage.
- PA Roots
Over 846,000 records as of today. We also have static pages for many of the counties which have their own search system. Be sure to use the ADVANCED feature on our databoard search system to find records going back further than one year.
- VETERANS GRAVE LOCATOR
US Department of Veterans Affairs ~ Locate burial sites for those buried in National Cemeteries throughout the United States. Listings go back as far as the Civil War.
