CROWE, THORNTON

Lonaconing, Md., Oct. 17— Thornton Crowe, one of Lonaconing's oldest citizens, died this morning at 4:3O o'clock at his home in Detmold, after an illness of three days. Mr. Crowe, who has lived in Lonaconing for nearly fifty years, was in his 89th year at his death. He is survived by six sons, John F., Ellsworth E., William Edward, Charles C., Clarence and Albert Crowe, all residents of Lonaconing; two daughters, Mrs. George S. Ternent and Mrs. David McGee, of Lonaconing, and one sister, residing in Allegheny, Pa.

McMULLEN, John R.
John R. McMullen died at Miners Hospital, Frostburg, early Thursday morning, following an illness of one year of complications. Mr. McMullen was born here 74 years ago, and resided here all his life. Starting as an apprentice plasterer at 11 years, he followed this trade for 62 years. His reputation for proficiency and business integrity in his chosen work is well known throughout this region. His wife died 2 years ago. Mr. McMullen is survived by sisters Mrs. Bernice Dudley, Eckhart, and Mrs. J.C. Willson, Baltimore; brother, George McMullen; and daughters, Mrs. Raymond Ogden, LaVale; Mrs. L.J. Ball, Clearfield, Pa.; Mrs. Jennie Fisher, Eckhart, and one son, Frank, this place. Mr.McMullen was a member of Coal Valley Council No. 7, Jr.O.U.A.M. and the Eckhart Methodist Episcopal church. Funeral will be held from the home with interment in the Eckhart Cemetery.

Frostburg, July 18 - Mrs. Bernice O. Dudley, 77, died yesterday afternoon in Allegany County Infirmary, Cumberland, where she had been a patient
several years. She was a native of Eckhart and the last surviving member of her immediate family. The body is at the Hafer Funeral Home here where services will be conducted tomorrow at 2 p.m. by Rev. Sidney Aldrich, pastor of First Baptist Church, Eckhart. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery.

Thornton J. Crowe, aged 48 years, was instantly killed on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock in Ocean Mine No. 1, of the Consolidation Coal Company, when a mass of top coal fell burying him beneath it. The remains were removed to Spiers' undertaking establishment at Lonaconing, in the Consolidation Coal Company's ambulance, and later to his home in Detmold. Deceased was born in Pompey Smash (now Vale Summit), this county, and when he was one year old his parents moved to Lonaconing, where he lived ever since. He is survived by his wife and five children, namely: Mrs. P. L. Ginevan, of Donora, Pa.; James, William, Olin, and Elsie Crowe, of Lonaconing, and by two sisters, Mrs. David McGee and Mrs. George S. Tennent[sic], of Lonaconing, and by six brothers, John, Edward, Ellsworth, Clarence and Albert, of this cty, and Charles, of Westernport. His father, Mr. Thornton Crowe, also survives, Mr. Crowe was a member of the Midland Aerie, No. 1121 F.O.E. The funeral arrangement have not yet been completed.

Barton, Md - May 10 - Mrs. Blanche Murphy Crowe, 74, Lonaconing, widow of Thornton J. Crowe, died yesterday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Thomas J. Mowbray, at Barton. She suffered a paralytic stroke in January and since then has been in her daughter's home. She was a member of the Lonaconing Methodist Church. Besides her daughter she is survived by one son, Olin Crowe, New Kensington, Pa.; three step-children,
William and James Crowe, Lonaconing, and Mrs. James Mclntosh, New Kensington, Pa.: three sisters, Mrs. Mary Hanlin, Westernport; Mrs. McClelland Fazenbaker, Swanton, Md., and Mrs. Robert Turnbull, Sr, Lonaconing, nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The body will remain at the home of her daughter at Barton.

Lonaconing, Dec. 30 - A native of this place, Albert Crowe, 70, died Thursday at his home, 82 West Main street, after an illness of almost three years. The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thornton Crowe, he was a carpenter by trade, retiring 12 years ago. His wife, Mrs. Isabel B. (Dunn) Crowe, died in April 1927. Before entering the carpentry trade, Mr. Crowe worked for the Marshall Lumber Company, the Frostburg Brewing Company, and the Emmerling Bottling Works, Cumberland. He was a member of Valley Council, No. 26, Junior Order of United American Mechanics. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Ernest Finley, Cambridge, Ohio; Mrs. Thelma Mac Farland, Reno, Nev., and Miss Alma Belle Crowe, at home; two grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Ida McGee, Baltimore, and Mrs. Molly Ternent, Detmold, Lonaconing.

A retired miner and a World War 1 veteran, he was a member of the United Mine Workers and the American Legion. Surviving are his wife, Natty (Green) Crowe; two sisters, Mrs. Edith Mclntosh, New Kensington, Pa., and Mrs. Elsie Mowbray, Barton, and two brothers, William Crowe, Lonaconing; and Olin Crowe, New Kensington. The body is at the Eichhorn Funeral Home where friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p. m. A service will be held there tomorrow at 2 p.m. by Rev. Charles Russell. Burial, with full military rites by James P. Love Post, American Legion, will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

LONACONING – Mrs. Alma Belle Crowe, 67, of West Main Street, here, died yesterday at Community Hospital, Frostburg. Born here, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Isabelle (Dunn) Crowe. She was a member of the Daughters of America, Royal Neighbors, Methodist Church, Republican Club, all here, and a retired employee of the Celanese Corp. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. William Hutchinson (sic), here; a sister, Mrs. Thelma Hass, Adrien, Oreg.; and two grandchildren. The body is at the Eichhorn Funeral Home where friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. and tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home by Rev. Wayne Turner. Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.

LARAMIE, Wyo. — Alberta Marie (Crowe) Hutcheson, 88, of Laramie, Wyo, formerly of Lonaconing, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2012, at her residence. Born at Cleveland, Ohio, on Feb. 28, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Alma Belle Crowe. She was also preceded in death by her husband Wm. Henry Hutcheson and son Craig Albert Hutcheson. Alberta was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lonaconing and a graduate of Central High School. She was a former employee of the Celanese Fiber Corp. during World War II. She was a member of the Martha Washington Chapter 10 O.E.S., Lonaconing and a 41 year member of the Morning Star Temple 1 Phythian Sisters. Surviving is her daughter, Doris LaRue Hutcheson and husband John M. Harrison, of Laramie, Wy. Also surviving are sister-in-law Harriett; brother-in-law Robert Hutcheson and wife Therese; cousins Alan and wife Amy, Howard and wife Ruth Lee, Skip, T.J. and Shirley Webb and husband Clay. She leaves behind companion Belle and numerous grand kittys. Martha Washington Chapter 10 O.E.S. will hold a memorial service Monday at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Morning Star Temple 1 Phythian Sisters will hold a memorial service at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Friends will be received Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home P.A., 8 E. Main St., Lonaconing. Lonaconing - Raymond Grandstaff, 73, of here, died Monday in Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland. Born in Westernport on April 6, 1913, he was the son of the late Clarence and Katherine (Clise) Grandstaff. Retired with 30 years service as a lab technician for the Celanese Corporation, Mr. Grandstaff is a member of First United Methodist Church, Lonaconing Lions Club, Lonaconing Republican Club and Lonaconing Senior Citizens. Surviving are his widow, Mildred (Crowe) Grandstaff; two sons, Richard W. Grandstaff,Lonaconing, and Kenneth L. Grandstaff, Thurmont; one daughter, Mrs. Nancy Livingston, Frostburg; three brothers, Francis "Bud" Grandstaff, Westernport; Leroy Grandstaff, Honeybrook, Pa., and Norris Grandstaff, Williamsport; one sister, Mrs. Ruth Orndorff, Keyser, W. Va., and five grandchildren. Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park Tuesday at 2 p.m. A memorial service will be conducted at First United Methodist Church at 2 p.m by the Rev. Carl Synan and the Rev. Kenneth Hamrick. The family requests that memorials take the form of donations to the George's Creek Ambulance Service or First United Methodist Church. Pfc. Kenneth W. Crowe, 24[sic], of Lonaconing, in Manila February 22.
Pfc. Crowe was the son of Mr. and Mrs. William W. Crowe, of Detmold, Lonaconing. He entered the Army January 13, 1941, and served an overseas duty 35 months with the 37th Division. He fought at Bougainville and New Georgia before going into the battle for the Philippines. Pfc. Crowe, was a former Celanese employe. Besides his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Hilda Williams, residing with her parents while her husband is in the service; and Mrs. Raymond Grandstaff, Douglas avenue, Lonaconing.
