Charles H. Steach, 55, Stoystown R.D., died Monday. He was a son of Samuel and Mary Buzzard Steach. His wife, Mrs. Margaret Blanset Steach, a son, Robert of Boulder, Colo.; a granddaughter, two brothers, Bruce and Grant Steach of Everett, a sister, Mrs. Bertha Lynda, Akron, O. Funeral service will be in the George Blanset home, Stoystown R.D. today, Thursday, at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. James Carr officiating. Burial in the IOOF cemetery, Stoystown.

Clayton Andrew Steadman, 22, of LaVale, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2016, as a result of a car crash in LaVale. Born April 18, 1994, in Cumberland, he was the son of Lori Ann (Steadman) and Brian Aldridge. Clayton was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandfather, Donald Moreland; paternal grandparents, Clyde and Lois Aldridge; uncles, Richard and Mark Aldridge; and aunt, Nancy Lease. Clayton graduated from Allegany High School in 2012. Besides his parents, Clayton leaves behind his sister, Gabrielle Steadman, LaVale; brother, Trenton Steadman, LaVale; maternal grandparents, Donna Chungo, Oakland, and Larry Steadman and wife, Rosemary, Oakland; maternal great-grandmother, Arletha Moreland, Oakland; aunts, Sharon Suthard, Keyser, Karen and Dean Keefer, Oakland, Kim Piper, Oakland, Sherry and Andrew Farrell, Oakland, and Jennifer Chungo, Philadelphia, Pa.; uncle, Mike and Sonya Aldridge, Fort Ashby; numerous cousins; and many many special friends. The funeral of Edmond H. Stealey, 10 North Lee street, who met death Wednesday afternoon when his automobile skidded and overturned on the Williams road, adjacent to this city was held with services at Centre Street Methodist Episcopal Church Friday at noon, Rev. Dr. Benjamin W. Meeks, pastor of the church officiating. The funeral cortege left here on Baltimore and Ohio train No. 11, in a special coach for Westernport. Services were continued at Philos Cemetery, Westernport by Mt. Carbon(?) Lodge No 36(?), assisted by Dr. Meeks. At the grave, the Boilermakers Local, No. 577(?), of which Mr. Stealey was a member, was read by O. A. Layman. Mr. Stealey is survived by his mother, Mrs. William Stealey, and these sisters and brothers, Mrs. H. R. McKenzie, Dayton, O.; Mrs. Richard Brydon, Bloomington; Misses Anabel, Edith and Clara May, and brother, Troxell Stealey. Relatives and friends who attended the funeral, besides the immediate family were: Mr. and Mrs. Nate Stealey, Clarksburg, W. Va.; Miss Fannie Stealey, Washington; Mr. and Mrs. C. E. The funeral of William Stealey was held yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from St. John's M. E. Church, south. Mr. Stealey was wreckmaster for the Western Maryland railway. About a year ago he was struck on the head with the crane while superintending the clearing of a wreck. He [never] recovered from the accident. His whole body seemed to be paralyzed. Mr. Stealey was a member of the Masons, who had charge of his funeral. Interment was made in Philos Cemetery.

STECKMAN, Mrs. Julia Clotilda Cordial

Mrs Julia Clotilda Steckman, 222 Emily Street, died this morning at the Allegany County Infirmary where she had been a patient since May 1951. She had been in ill health four years. Born in Cumberland, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Kathryn (Kirby) Cordial. Mrs Steckman was a former teacher in the county's public school system and had served as principal at both Flintstone and Corriganville schools. Mrs. Steckman had been associated 25 years with her daughter, Mrs. Mary Kathryn Spidell, in operating the Steckman Dance Studio. She was a member of St Patrick's Catholic Church. Her husband Curtis G Steckman preceded her in death. Surviving besides her daughter are a sister, Mrs Frank A Wolfhope this city and several nieces and nephews. The body is at the residence. A requiem mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St Patrick's Church and interment will be in SS Peter and Paul Cemetery.

FOUNTAIN NEWS - Mrs Elizabeth Steedman departed this life July 3, 1911, aged 82 years, 8 months and 27 days. For some years she had made her home with her son, David, and she died there. Mrs Steedman was known in this community by the name of "Granny." She was a good woman, and had a host of friends. She gave her heart to God in her young days, in Scotland, and joined the Scotch Church. She bore her afflictions with scarcely a murmur. On last Mon morning at twenty minutes past four o'clock she fell on sleep to awake with the angels in heaven. She leaves to mourn her loss one son, David Steedman of the Fountain, and one daughter, Mrs Archie McCamel of Homested Penn. Her son in law, and a granddaughter and her husband of Union Town, Penn, attended the funeral. The funeral services were conducted by Rev Geo Burgess Tues evening, at the Fountain Chapel, and the body was buried in Cabin Run Cemetery.

STEELE, Mrs. Agnes Thomson

Mrs Agnes Thomson Steele, 81, widow of William Steele and mother of Sheriff David M Steele, died suddenly from a heart attack early this morning at the home of her son on Prospect Square. Born in Delrias, Scotland, Mrs Steele came to the United States when she was three years old. She lived in Barton for many years. After her marriage, she resided in Lonaconing until the death of her husband in 1929 when she moved to Cumberland. Mrs Steele was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a charter member of the Martha Washington O E S, Lonaconing. Sheriff Steele is her only child and she is survived by four grandchildren. Other survivors include three sisters: Mrs John Carmack, Cumberland; Mrs Andrew Evans and Mrs M J McPartland, Baltimore.

George Steele, of Lonaconing, died at the Western Maryland hospital this morning, the result of injuries received a week ago. Before death Steel said he was shoved from a bridge in Lonaconing and received his injuries, which proved fatal in the fall. The body was taken in charge by Funeral Director Stein.

CUMBERLAND - Hugh Hammy Thomson Steele, 66, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003, at Lions Manor Nursing Home. Born Jan. 3, 1937, Cumberland, he was the son of the late David Mann Steele Sr. and Mary Ann (Blank) Steele. A Vietnam veteran having retired from the United States Air Force and the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C., Mr. Steele was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the Western Maryland Street Rod Association. Mr. Steele is survived by a sister, Wilma S. Alban, Towson; two brothers, David M. Steele Jr., Cumberland; and his twin, John C. Steele and wife Carol, Omaha, Neb.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. "Lonaconing, Md., Jan 9 - John Street (sic) Instantly Killed - John Steele, 23, unmarried, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Steele, Beechwood, near here, was instantly killed by a fall of slate at 8 o'clock Thursday while at work in the Klondyke Mine, No. 17, Consolidation Coal Company. Mr. Steele was working with his brother and two other miners who were uninjured. He was badly crushed about the head. His body was removed from the debris in a short time. Steele's father was working in another part of the mine. An investigation of the mishap was made by State Mine Inspector Frank W. Powers, Frostburg. The young miner was a member of the Junior Order United American Mechanics and the First Methodist Episcopal Church. He sang in the church choir. Besides his parents he is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Robert, Andrew, Evelyn, Thomas, Claude, Elizabeth, Leonard, Stewart, Govan and Nova Steele, Mrs. Stanley Lancaster, Lonaconing and Mrs. Margaret Johnson, Pekin."

LONACONING — Mrs. Lacy Ellen (Durst) Steele, 60, of Koontz, died yesterday at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, where she had been a patient for 10 days. She was born in Avilton and was the widow of Claude Steele. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Sarah Sweitzer and Miss Lula Steele, both of Lonaconing; two sons, John Steele, Lonaconing; and Andrew Steele, Baltimore; seven brothers, Harry Durst, Johnstown, Pa.; Ira Durst, Chicago; Percy Durst, Sheridan Durst, both of Avilton; Norman, George and Charles Durst, all of Longstretch, near Avilton; one sister, Mrs. Lula Warren, Shades Mill, and two grandchildren.

Steele Jr., with the Army in Germany; three daughters, Mrs. John Seibert, Eckhart, Mrs. William Donahue, Frostburg, and Mrs. Vernon Pinder, Mt. WESTERNPORT — Beverly J. Steffel, 77, formerly of Westernport, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013 at the Western Maryland Health System in Cumberland. She was born in Westernport on Sept. 27, 1935, and was the daughter of the late John White and Virginia (Miller) White. She was also preceded in death by a son, Clark Steffel. Beverly was a member of Saint Peter’s Catholic Church in Westernport. She was a beautician and worked for many years at Hazel’s Beauty Shop in Westernport. She loved to shop and babysitting with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Beverly is survived by her husband, Joseph Steffel; and her children, Noel Lee and husband Chris of Swanton, and Joseph Steffel Jr. and his wife Joann of Union, N.J. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Carissa and Elena; and her great-grandchildren, Logan, Lilly and Dylan. The family will receive friends at the Fredlock Funeral Home in Piedmont, on Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church on Monday at 11 a.m. with Father Ed Hendricks as celebrant. He was born in Cumberland on Oct. 19, 1965 and is the son of Joseph F. and Beverly (White) Steffel of Westernport. Mr Steffel was a Catholic by faith and was currently employed by the City of Scarborough . "While on a visit to her daughter, Mrs. A. J. Leonard in Pittsburgh, Mrs. Mary Steganeous, age 69 years, of South Connellsville, died very suddenly last night. Mrs. Steganeous went to Pittsburgh last Saturday to visit her daughter and on leaving home was enjoying her usual good health. Yesterday afternoon about 3 o'clock the members of her family were summoned to Pittsburgh on account of her serious illness and last evening about 7:30 o'clock friends of the deceased received word of her death. The news came as a great shock to the members of her family as well as to her wide circle of friends. Mrs. Steganeous was born and reared in West Virginia. Her maiden name was Miss Mary Moran. Twenty-five years ago with her family she came to South Connellsville to reside. Her husband died 17 years ago and one son, Edward, was killed on the Baltimore & Ohio railroad. Deceased was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church. She is survived by the following children, Frederick, William, Charles, Misses Lottie and Catherine Steganeous, of South Connellsville, and John, of Ohio. Funeral director J. L. Stander went to Pittsburgh this morning to take charge of the body which will arrive here this afternoon on B & O train No. 14, due here at 3 o'clock."

Leonard Joseph Stegmaier, 59, of RD 2, Cumberland, died Thursday at Memorial Hospital. Born here Dec. 23, 1925, he was a son of the late Joseph Valentine Stegmaier and Helen Marie (Lindner) Stegmaier. Mr. Stegmaier was a self-employed farmer and formerly worked for the Schmidt Baking Company. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. His wife, the former Betty Louise Shober, died in 1972. Survivors include one son, Michael L. Stegmaier; two sisters, Mrs. Frances Jewell and Mrs. Mary C. Beard, and one brother, Thomas William Stegmaier, all of Cumberland, and one step-granddaughter. CUMBERLAND — Thomas W. Stegmaier, 83, of Cumberland, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2015. Tom was born in Cumberland on Jan. 23, 1932, to the late Joseph V. and Helen M. Stegmaier. Tom was formerly emploved by the Western Maryland Railway as a work equipment supervisor in Ridgeley, W.Va. Tom was a lifetime member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. John Zinn Stehley, a well known resident of Falling Waters, W.Va., a brother of the late Dr. Frazier P. Stehley, this city, died at his home there on Saturday morning, aged 74 years. For the past forty-seven years Mr. Stehley served as agent for the Cumberland Valley and Pennsylavania railroads at Falling Waters and for thirty years as postmaster of that place. Mr. Stehley was born April 25, 1855, at Hummelstown, Pa. He is survived by his widow and three daughters, Mrs. James Cunningham and Mrs. Edward Dyer, Falling Waters, and Mrs. S. S. James, Norfolk, Va.; four sisters, Miss Katherine Stehely, Mrs. E. E. Miller and Mrs. F. B. Ziegler, Greencastle, Pa., and Miss Maria Stehley, Falling Waters.

STEIDING, Earl Barnhardt

Midland - Earl B. Steiding, 67, died suddenly at his home here. He suffered a heart attack. A native of Elk Garden, he was born November 17*, 1889, a son of the late John E. and Elizabeth (McLaughlin) Steiding. Mr. Steiding retired two years ago from the engineering department of the Amcelle plant of the Celanese Corporation of America. He was formerly employed with Westinghouse Electric in in Pittsburgh and was self employed in the woodwork business. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Marian (Peebles) Steiding and four sons, John B. Steiding, Lonaconing; E. Price Steiding, Los Angeles; Fred D. Steiding, Cumberland, and R. Marsh Steiding, Morristown, N. J. The body is at the Eichhorn Funeral Home in Lonaconing where ervices will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m by Rev. Charles Reckley, pastor of Midland Methodist Church, and Rev. STEIDING, Earl Barnhardt

Midland- Earl B. Steiding 67, died suddenly Wednesday afternoon at his home here. He suffered a heart attack. A native of Elk Garden, West Va. he was son of the late John Ernst and Elizabeth J. (McLaughlin) Steiding. Mr. Steiding retired two years ago from the engineering department of the Amcelle plant of the Celanese Corporation of America. He was formerly employed with Westinghouse Electric in Pittsburg and was self employed in the woodwork business. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Marion (Peebles) Steiding, and four sons, John B. Steiding , Lonaconing; E. Price Steiding, Los Angeles; Frederick Steiding, Cumberland; and R. Marsh Steiding, Morristown, New Jersey. The body is at the Eichhorn Funeral Home in Lonaconing where services will be conducted Saturday at 2 pm by Rev. Charles Reckley, Pastor of Midland Methodist Church, and Rev.Carl Price pastor of Lonaconing Methodist Church. Interment will be at Elk Garden Cemetery. Pall bears will be Richard M. Dean, John Marshall,Robert Blair, Dewey Williams, Dean Tasker and Robert Peebles.

STEIDING, Mrs. Ella Costanza Moore nee Gibson

OAKLAND, June 7?Word has been received here of the death of Mrs. Ella Moore Steiding, 72, a native of Garrett County, who died suddenly May 19. Last rites were held at the home of her son, Donald Moore, Landover Hills, near Washngton, and burial took place in a cemetery there. A daughter of the late Zacharias and Eliza Gibson, Mrs. Steiding spent most of her life near Mt. Lake Park. About 12 years ago she moved to Washington to live with her son. Other survivors include a sister, Mrs. Ora Strawser, Deer Park; two brothers, H. Z. and Bryson Steiding (sic), Mt. Lake Park, and her stepmother, Mrs. Sarah A. Gibson, Washington.

Ferdinand Steiding

STEIDING, Ferdinand

On the 23rds inst. Mr. Ferdinand Steiding died at the home of his father, in Garrett county, Md., near Deer Park, after a short but severe siege of suffering from the typhoid fever. The deceased was born at Barton, Allegany county, Md., September 12, 1865, and was dedicated to the Lutheran church by holy baptism on Novem,ber 19th, 1865, by Rev. Huffman, the pastor. From his infancy he was a member of the Lutheran church, and from a child he was taught the Holy Scriptures which were able to make him wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus, I Tim.3, 15. Being taught the doctrines of the Bible and of the church, as embraced in the catechism, he was received into the full privileges and fellowship of the Lutheran church at Deer Park two years ago, by the present pastor, Rev. Stoudenmire, in which he remained a faithful member until death. His funeral was from the residence of his father, Barnhardt Steiding, to the Deer Park Lutheran church, thence to the cemetery. A large number of sympathising relatives and friends attended the funeral. The service and sermon was by Rev. Stoudenmire, the pastor. The family has not only the sympathy of the church, but of the town and community. The Lord comfort the hearts of the bereaved, and prepare them and us for death, that we may all enjoy the reunions of loved ones in heaven. Amen.

KEYSER - Miss Grace Steiding died Tuesday at the home of a sister, Mrs. F. O. Workman, here, after an illness of several months. Besides her sister, Edith, she is survived by another sister, Mrs. Ruby Shobe, Detroit; two brothers, Charles A.. Steiding, McCoole, and J. Bernard Steiding, Short Gap, and several nieces and nephews. The body is at the Markwood Funeral Home where services will be held today at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Queens Point Cemetery.

STEIDING, Mrs. Mariea Elizabeth

Died, At the family residence, on the road leading from Deer Park to Swanton, after an illness of only two days, Mariea Elizabeth Steiding, wife of Bernard Steiding, departed this life for the home beyond last Thursday afternoon. Although frequently afflicted during the winter, her death was unexpected and sudden. She was born Sept. 18, 1831, having attained nearly the "alloted time," three score and ten years. On Sunday morning her remains were taken to the Deer Park Lutheran church, where Rev. G I . Uhler conducted the service, basing his remarks upon the text: "Set thine house in order for thou shalt die and not live." (2 Kings 20: 1.)
The deceased was for many years a member of the above church. She was a faithful wife and companion, a good mother, open-hearted to all who entered her doors, and the large concourse of friends and relatives which filled the church to overflowing bore testimony ot the kindly esteem in which she was held. A husband, three sons and three daughters mourn their loss.

Midland-Mrs. Marion Steiding 73, widow of Earl B. Steiding died yesterday in Memorial Hospital, Cumberland. Born in Lonaconing, she was a daughter of the late John and Machel[sic, Rachel] (Morgan) Peebles. Mrs. Steiding was a member of Midland Methodist Church. Surviving are four sons, John B.Steiding, Lonaconing; E. Price Steiding, Los Angeles; Fred D. Steiding, Cumberland; and R. Marsh Steiding, Morristown, N.J.; 15 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The body is at Eichhorn Funeral Home, Lonaconing, where friends will be received today from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. Services will be conducted Thursday at 2pm at the funeral home by Rev. Clarence McCloud and interment will be in Elk Garden (W.Va.) Cemetery.

MEYERSDALE - Andrew Stein, 76, died yesterday at his home here. Born in Meyersdale, August 1, 1885, he was a son of the late Andrew and Annie (Meyers) Stein. He was a member of Amity United Church of Christ and was employed for ten years as custodian for Meyersdale High School. Surviving are his widow, Minnie (Brown) Stein; four daughters, Miss Bertha Stein, at home; Mrs. Garfield Shope, here; Mrs. Howard P. Armelle, Hudson, Ohio, and Mrs. Paul McCall, Johnstown; a son, Frank Stein, Akron; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Seggie, Akron, and Mrs. Agnes Swearman, here; a brother, Joseph Stein, also of here, and seven grandchildren. The body is at the Price Funeral Home where services will be conducted at 2 p. m. tomorrow by Rev. Paul Westcoat. Interment will be in Reformed Cemetery.

Arie E. Stein, 74, of 310 Washington Street, died this morning at Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient one week. Born in Cumberland, he was a son of the late William Henry and Elizabeth (Smith) Stein. Mr. Stein was a veteran of World War II, and a member of Knobley Mountain Post 136, American Legion. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. June (Null) Stein; three daughters, Mrs. Patricia Robb, Cumberland: Mrs. Joyce Bradley, Ridgeley; Miss Cindy Stein, at home; a son, Rick Stein, Short Gap; two sisters, Mrs. Viola Magruder, Cumberland; Mrs. Nora Baker, Hanover, Pa., and eight grandchildren. MEYERSDALE, Jan. 3 — John Stein, who had been ill for several months with a complication, passed away Friday morning at 1:30 o'clock at his home on North street. Mr. Stein was 49 years old and is survived by his widow and the following children: Gladys, Mrs. Edward Crouse of Connellsville, Andrew, Margaret, James, Russell and John Edward. One grandchild and the following brothers and sisters also survive: Joseph, Andrew, William, Mrs. Lizzie Schrader, Mrs. Mary Boggle and Mrs. Agnes Swearman, all of Meyersdale and vicinity. Mr. Stein was associated with John Clark in the restaurant business which they conducted for several years in the Colonial Hotel building. His funeral will be held Monday morning with requiem high mass at 9 o'clock in SS Philip and James Catholic church by Very Rev. J. J. Brady.

He was a son of the late Jacob and Mary (Werner) Steinla and held membership in the Moose and Eagles lodges here. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Sara (Knepp) Steinla; a daughter, Mrs. Nelson Robinson, Cumberland; a stepson, Lewis Butler, McKeesport, Pa.; a brother, Ervin Steinla, Cumberland; four sisters, Belle Baer, Dayton, Ohio; Mrs. Minnie Chaney, Westernport; Mrs. Annie Crowe, Cresaptown; and Mrs. Louella McKenzie, Frostburg; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. HAGERSTOWN - Jacob Oscar Steinla, 75, of 18817 Eliason Way, Hagerstown, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at the Washington County Hospital. Born Sept. 27, 1925, in Finzel, he was the son of the late Ervin and Irene Goldsworthy Steinla. He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Light and Catherine Peer; and one brother, Paul Steinla. Mr. Steinla was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army 163rd Engineer Construction Battalion in the European and Pacific Theaters. He was a sales manager for Fortney Homes Inc. since 1967. He was a member of Grace Bible Church in Greencastle, Pa., and a charter member of the Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion. He is survived by his wife, Thelma L. Divers Steinla; two daughters, Sandra R. Thompson of Troutville, Va., and Stacy Troxell of Williamsport; one son, Ervin J. Steinla of Maugansville; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The family will receive friends at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. J. Herman Fisler officiating. Burial will be in the Beautiful View Cemetery, State Line.

Oscar Ervin Steinla, 69, died at his home, 1110 Frederick Street, yesterday following a nine-week illness. Mr. Steinla, a pioneer in the auto and trucking business with which he was associated for over 50 years, was president of the Steinla Motor Company and Steinla Transportation Company at the time of his death.

Meyersdale - Mrs. Annie C. Steinly, 82, of RD 2, Meyersdale, died Saturday at her home. Born in Meyersdale RD, she was the daughter of August and Sevilla (Baer) Sass and was the widow of Charles H. Steinly who died in 1955. Surviving are two sons, Oscar Steinly, Garrett, and Bruce A. Steinly, Amherst, Ohio; and three daughters, Mrs. Bernard Brown, here; the Misses Hester and Irene Steinly, at home; two sisters, Miss Alice Barmoy and Mrs. Alma Kelly, here; and six grandchildren. The body is at the Price Funeral Home where friends will be received after 11 a.m. today. A service will be conducted at White Oak Lutheran Church Wednesday, 2 p.m. Rev. Baby boy Steinly, Meyersdale Route 3, born dead of prematurity in the Hazel McGilvery Hospital at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 27th. The parents are Elnora (McKenzie) Steinly and Ralph Steinly. Another child, Paul, also survives. Interment in the Greenville Cemetery the same day, in charge of Stanley M. Thomas, Salisbury mortician.

Frostburg, Md., March 6 — William Henry Steinly, 67, 111 West Main street, died this morning. A natlve of Somerset county, Pa., he was formerly engineer for the Wilmoth Coal Company, Meyersdale, Pa. He was a member of the First Methodist Church. Mr. Steinly hnd conducted a grocery and restaurant here. Surviving are his widow, the former Edith Booth; four brothers, Frederick, Avllton, Md.; Ervin, head of a transportation company at Cumberland, and Harvey and Elmer, Frostburg; and four sisters, Mrs. Hudson Chaney, Westerport; Mrs. Belle Baer, Dayton; Mrs. Anne Crowe, Cresaptown, and Mrs. Louella McKenzie, Finzel. His mother, Mrs. Mary Steinley, died in December. The body is at Hafer's Funeral Home.

Mrs. Agnes Stemple, 68, of 811 Louisiana Avenue, died early this morning in Sacred Heart Hospital, where she was admitted Monday. She had been in failing health a year. Born at Cook's Mill, Pa., she was a daughter of the late John and Clara J. (Kennell) Emerick. Mrs. Stemple was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Reformed Church. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Clyde Slider, with whom she resided, a son, Franklin G. Stemple, Baltimore; five brothers, Gilbert, Leroy, Walter and Edward Emerick, all of Mt. Savage; Clarence Emerick, Fort Wayne, Indiana; and six sisters, Mrs. Clifton Willison, Baltimore; Mrs. Mary Carder, Mrs. Jesse Moore and Mrs. Margaret Kane, all of this city, and Mrs. Orrie Dietz and Mrs. Walter Robertson, both of Mt. Savage. The body will remain at the Hafer Funeral Home where services will be conducted Sunday at 3:30 p.m. by Rev. Carl H. Clapp, pastor of St. Mark's Church. Interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.

Alfred L. Stemple, 90, of Aurora, W.Va. died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, at the Oakland Nursing and Rehab Center, Oakland. Born on Aug. 22, 1916, in Aurora, he was a son of the late Oliver G. and Eunice M. (Stemple) Stemple. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth C. (Waybright) Stemple in 2003; two brothers, Leo G. Stemple and Floyd Stemple; and three sisters, Edith Harding, Alice Stemple, and Madeline Slaubaugh. He attended the Aurora United Methodist Church. He worked as a carpenter and with the West Virginia State Dept. of Highways. He was also an avid trapper. He is survived by three daughters, Katherine L. Myers, Ruth E. Slaubaugh, and Judy Hughes, all of Aurora; four sons, David E. Stemple, Parsons, W.Va., Gary L. Stemple, Cranesville, Jimmy W. Stemple, Parsons, and Charles E. Stemple, Aurora; two sisters, Mary Jackson, Warren Ohio and Katherine Stewart, Columbus, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, where a service will be held today, Thursday, Dec. 28, with the Rev. Debbie Friend officiating.
Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery.

Word was received by relatives here of the death of Carl J. Stemple, 77, of San Angelo, TX, who died February 25, 1989, in a hospital there. Mr. Stemple was born December 5, 1911, at Aurora, a son of the late Luther J. and Ada F. Stemple Stemple. He is survived by his wife, Willis Lange Stemple; one son, Carl Jay Stemple of San Angelo; two daughters, Johanna Yount of EI Paso, TX, and Lynne Nance of San Angelo; two brothers, Fred and Brooke Stemple, both of Aurora; two sisters, Martha Copeman of Bruceton Mills and Vera Stemple of Bridgewater, VA; five granddaughters and five great-grandchildren. He was a graduate of Aurora High School and of Fairmont State College. He was employed in the Preston County school system until his enlistment in the Air Force where he served for 27 years. His military career took him to Japan, Korea and Germany. He was a Lifelong member of the Lutheran Church and quite active both in his local church and with the Meals-On-Wheels program. A military service was conducted and interment was in San Angelo.

David Wayne Stemple, 26, of Arthurdale, died Sunday, July 2, 1995, at Preston Memorial Hospital, as a result of an auto accident. He was born September 28, 1968, in Morgantown, son of Larry W. and Nola Jean McGinnis Stemple. He was employed at Chuck's Furniture Warehouse. He is survived by his former wife, Julia A. Gulf Stemple; a sister, Deborah A. Turner of Reedsville; a sister-in-law, Pamela Murray and paternal grandparents, John and Ruth Stemple of Arthurdale. He was preceded in death by a brother and his maternal grandparents. Service will be held at 1 p.m. today, (Wednesday), July 5, at Waldeck Funeral Home, Masontown, with the Rev. A. C. Mann officiating. Burial will be in Preston Memorial Gardens, Kingwood.

Eleen Stemple, 75, of Masontown, died Thursday May 5, 2005 at her home surrounded by her loving family after a short illness. She was born in Bretz, W. Va. on March 31, 1930, a daughter of the late Alston Dayton and Opal Beveridge Watson. She graduated from Masontown High School in 1948 and retired from ARA at Xerox Corp. in Leesburg, Va. as a food service! cashier after 20 years of service. She was a member of the Women of the Moose, Chapter 1592, Fredericksburg, Va. and a member of the Masontown United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Harry F. Stemple; two sons, Ronald W. Stemple, of Spotsylvania, Va., and Harry Scott Stemple and wife, Tammy, of Bunker Hill, W.Va.; one daughter, Judith K. Stiles and husband. Dennis, of Spotsylvania, Va.; one sister, Kay Poole and husband, John, of Columbus, Ohio; three grandsons; four granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by one brother, Allen Dayton. Friends will be received from 58 p.m. Sunday, May 8, and Monday May 9, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. the time of services with the Rev. Erwin B. Stemple, 63, of Aurora, died June 19,2010, as a result of a tractor accident. He was born May 24, 1947 in Aurora, a son of Arlene Virginia Lantz Stemple and the late Lester Ernest Stemple. He was employed as Preston County Appraiser, formerly he was a mining supervisor for Island Creek Coal Company. He had also worked for Seneca Sand and Stone Quarry, New Enterprise Stone and Lime, and was a manager of the Tucker County Landfill. He enjoyed skidding logs and hunting with the Stemple Ridge group for 50 years. He was actively involved in the Stemple Ridge Community, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Rowlesburg, the Aurora Lions Club, the Preston County Solid Waste Authority, and the Aurora Odd Fellows. He was a life-long member of the Stemple Ridge Church. He is also survived by his wife, Mary Westfall Stemple, a daughter and spouse, Melody and Richard Hubbard, of Canal Fulton, OH; a son and spouse, Kevin and Jamie Stemple, of Martinsburg; three sisters and spouses, Betty and Charlie Moore of Aurora, Nancy and Blake Ridenour, of Rowlesburg, and Janet and Larry Sliger, of Swanton, MD; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 22, at the Stemple Ridge Church, with the Rev. John Foy officiating. Donations can be made to the Stemple Ridge Cemetery, 3322 SR Rd, Aurora, WV 26705. Franklin C. Stemple, 91, of Aurora, died Friday, December 5, 1997, at home. He was born January 21, 1906, in Aurora, son of the late Amos Claude and Lillie Florence Wotring Stemple. He was a retired schoolteacher having taught for 46 years in Preston County Schools. He was a member of Aurora United Methodist Church, Elizabeth Lodge lOOF 151, Knights of Pythias of Kingwood, Mountain Lions Club of Aurora and the Retired Teachers' Association. He is survived by his second wife, Wilda Adams Stemple; a son, Adrian Stemple of Aurora; a brother, Paul Ezra Stemple of Aurora; two sisters, Bertha Jeter of Winchester, V A, and Katheryn Harvey of Clarksburg; six grandchildren and spouses, the Rev. Daniel and Elaine S temple of Asbury, Tom and Billie Stemple of Fairview, MI, Connie and Joe Fish of Greensboro, NC, Debbie and Jack Kimble of Aurora, John and Pat Stemple of Morgantown, Shelley Martin of Morgantown; two stepsons, Eugene Wilt of Rowlesburg, and Steven Wilt of Eglon; four stepdaughters, Beverly Whetstone of Arthur, Janice Forman of Aurora, Cathy Barr of St. George, Martha Poling of Parsons; 17 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, nine nephews and three nieces. STEMPLE, Mrs. Gertrude Etta Bolyard

Gertrude Etta Bolyard Stemple, 91, Aurora, W.Va., died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at Windy Hills Assisted Living Home. Born Jan. 16, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Mahala Ann Loughry Bolyard and Thomas Ellsworth Bolyard and the youngest of a family of 10 children. She graduated from Aurora School in 1937. She married Joseph "Brooke" Stemple on Oct. 8, 1938, who preceded her in death in 1990 after 54 years of marriage. They made their home at Valley Farm near Aurora. She was a member of the local Farm Women's Club, volunteered with Hospice, and was a participant of the Literacy Volunteers. She also worked as an emergency medical technician (EMT) with Union Ambulance and was a member of the Aurora VFD Ladies Auxiliary for many years. She is survived by four children, Ronald Brooke, Alpine Lake, W.Va., Lynn Lechner, Cheat Bridge, W.Va., Joseph Kyle, Aurora, and Mary Kowalkoski, Aurora; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Friends were received at Arthur H. Wright Funeral Home, Terra Alta, W.Va., where a service was conducted on Wednesday, Feb. 15, with Rev. Regina Beard officiating. Burial followed in Aurora Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a local Hospice in Gertrude's memory.

Hazel Stemple, 83, of S. Seventh St., Oakland, MD, died Tuesday, May 7, 1996, at Preston Memorial Hospital. Born February 16, 1913 in Tunnelton, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Martha A. (Philips) Sigley. She was a member of the Oakland Church of the Nazarene. She is survived by her husband, Leo G. Stemple; two daughters, Rolena Kirk of Rowlesburg, and Linda Stemple of Kingwood; two sons, Richard Stemple of Aurora and Roger Stemple of Oakland, MD; one sister, Ruth Lipscomb of Parma, OH; two brothers, Earl Sigley of Madison, OH and Clyde Sigley of Phillippi; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Saturday), May 11, at the Oakland Church of the Nazarene. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery, Aurora. Jimmie Lee Stemple, 70, Aurora, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 27, 2009, at his home. Born Feb. 14, 1939, in Aurora, he was a son of the late Elmer and Mina (Wotring) Stemple. He was the husband of Elsie Miller Stemple for 30 years. Jimmie loved the outdoors and' was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a huge WVU Mountaineer fan, and he never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Rock Stemple and wife Margie, Jefferson; one daughter, Santa Hsu and husband Sam, Frederick; one stepdaughter, Beverly Fannelli and husband Dan, Germantown; two grandsons, Connor and Quinn Stemple; one granddaughter, Dakota Farr; five stepgrandchildren, Michael, Christin, and Matthew Fannelli, and Bryan and Samantha Hsu; one sister, Petura Kristings and husband Phillip, Yellow Springs; four nieces, Pamela Mrozinski, Sheryl Grossniele, Laura Harwood, and Rikki Jenkins; one aunt, Kathryn Harvey, Clarksburg, W.Va.; and one uncle, William Wotring, Arthurdale, WV. Kenneth Lawrence Stemple, 81, of Aurora, passed away Monday, June 18, 2007, at his residence. He was born Feb. 27, 1926, in Aurora, a son of the late Walter George and Dora Bland Stemple. Mr. Stemple was a farmer and a lifelong timberman. He is survived by his wife, Blanche Fike Stemple; a son, Dennis and companion Kathy and her children, Khristina and Mason; two daughters, Renee and Roger Mullenax of Horse Shoe Run, and Patly and Wick Myers of Aurora; a brother, Dale Stemple of Aurora, and two grandchildren, Christopher and Joshua Mullenax. Leo Stemple, 93, of Aurora, W.Va passed away Aug 9, 2004, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oak¬land, Md. He was born Oct. 1, 1910, in Oakland, a son of the late Oliver Grant and Eunice Myrtle Stemple. His wife, Hazel Sigley Stemple preceded him in death. He is survived by two sons, Richard Stemple of Aurora, and Roger Stemple of Oakland; one daughter, Linda Stemple of King¬wood; one brother, Alfred Stemple of Aurora; three sisters, Kathryn Stewart of Columbus, Ohio, Mary Jackson of Warren, Ohio, and Made¬line Slaubaugh of Horse Shoe Run, W.Va.; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and eight great great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Rolena Arbogast; one grandson, Daniel Arbogast; one brother, Floyd Stemple; and two sisters, Alice Stemple and Edith Crabtree. Mr. Stemple retired from the W.Va. Division of Highways. He was affiliated with the Aurora United Methodist Church. He was loved and cared for in his declining years by his grandson Bradley L. Stemple, and devoted care giver Mary Miller and Jacob. He loved God, his Bible and his family of friends. His hunting and trapping stories will live on forever in the hearts of family and friends. Phyllis Ann Stemple. 71, Wise, Va., died Saturday, Jan. I, 2005, at the home of her daughter. She was a former resident of Red House and later of Oakland at Underwood South. Born March 3, 1933, in Lantz Ridge, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Dwight L. and Nellie Marie Strawser Arnett. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Stemple; two brothers, Frank Arnett and Fred Arnett; and two sisters, Alice Proudfoot and Lois Reva Arnett. She was a retired teacher's aide in the Garrett County schools. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Red House. Surviving are one son, James Lawton Stemple, Red House; one daughter, Dr. Marie Ann Stemple, Wise; four brothers, James Arnett, Clarksburg, W.Va., Raymond Arnett, Martinsburg, W.Va., Donald Arnett, Amboy, W.Va., and Joseph Arnett, Bernillo, N.M.; and two grandchildren. A service was held at St. John's Lutheran Church, Red House, on Jan. 4, with; the Rev. Bill Connelly and the Rev. Keith Pittsnogle officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Gormania, W. Va. - Mrs. Rozella Stemple, 79, of here, died Saturday in Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland. A native of Tucker County, W. Va., she was born November 16, 1884, a daughter of the late Robert and Martha (Bonner) Helmick. Her husband, Cyrus M. Stemple, died in 1938. Survivors include a son, Blaine Stemple, Gormania, with whom she resided; two daughters, Mrs. Garrett Liller, of here, and Mrs. Clare Bonner, Keyser, W. Va.; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Sterling, Harlan, Ky.; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be conducted today at 2 p.m. in the Church of God at Gorman by Rev. John Bava, pastor. Interment will be in Stemple Ridge Cemetery near Aurora.

Oakland, Md., Feb. 21 - Mrs. Anna Stephen, 44, wife of Clarence Stephen, died at her home near Bittinger, Garrett county, on Wednesday, February 12, of pneumonia. Mrs. Stephen was always active in community interests and gave of her time and means unsparingly to every good cause. As a teacher in the public schools of the county she was successful. She was a member of the Bittinger Homemakers Club and an active member of the Women's Missionary Society of the Bittinger Lutheran Church. An aged mother, Mrs. Drucilla Raley, survives; also her husband, Clarence Stephen. The surviving brothers are William Raley, Sunnyside; Clarence Raley, Finzel; Chas. Raley, Meyersdale; Thomas and Ezra Raley, Cresaptown, and Milton Raley, of near Grantsvllle. Rev. Charles A. Shilke, Oakland, conducted the funeral services, at the Glades Mennonlte Church on Saturday morning, and interment was in the Bittinger cemetery immediately following the service.

ACCIDENT - Clarence C. Stephen, 79, died Tuesday at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland. Born in New Germany, he was a son of the late Peter and Isabelle Broadwater Stephen. He was a member of Cherry Glade Mennonite Church, Garrett County Farm Bureau and Farming for Better Living. Surviving are his widow, Marian Broadwater Stephen, a son, Carl Stephen, Bel Air, three daughters, Mrs. Margaret Knox, Mrs. June Beachy, Grantsville, and Mrs. Grace Trost, Pinto; two brothers, James Stephen, Grantsville, Frank Stephen, Westernport; four sisters, Mrs. Jennie Miller, Frostburg, Mrs. Minnie Wiley, Potomac Park, Mrs. Ida Platter, Addison, Pa., and Mrs. Laura Glover, Friendsville; 19 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. The body is at the Newman Funeral Home in Grantsville. A service will be conducted at Cherry Glade Mennonite Church Friday at 2 p.m. Rev. Melvin Nussbaum will officiate and burial will follow in the Glade Cemetery.

STEPHENS, Mrs. Jane Correy

Death of Aged Lady.
Mrs. Jane Stevens[sic], one of the oldest women in Mt Savage, and perhaps in Allegany county, died Thursday evening at 6:30 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. P. J. Gallagher. Mrs. Stevens[sic] was in good health and ate her supper as usual, but shortly after she was noticed with her head drooping and before ten minutes she was dead. Mrs. Stevens was 98 years age, and was a resident of Mt. Savage for 82 years, having come here when she was 16 years of age. She is survived by three daughters and one son: Mrs. P. J. Gallagher, Mrs Patrick O'Connor, Mrs. Snyder and James Stevenson[sic], and twenty grand-children and eleven great grand children. Funeral Saturday at 8:80 at from St. Patrick's church.

Elk Garden - Mrs. Lillian Florence Stephenson, 90, died yesterday at the Pulliam Nursing Home, Keyser, where she had been a patient over two years. A native of Preston County, she was a daughter of the late Levi A. and Sirena C. (Calhoun) Shaffer. Mrs. Stephenson was the widow of Jacob R. Stephenson who died in 1934, and was a member of Grace Methodist Church. She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Services will be conducted tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Grace Methodist Church by Rev. F. Robert Armentrout. Burial will be in Texas Cemetery near Eglon. The body is at the Sharpless Funeral Home, Blaine, and will be taken to the church at noon tomorrow.

Daniel L. Sterling, aged 80, retired lockkeeper for the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Company at Dam No. 5, died Monday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Bessie E. Wooden, 831?? West Franklin street, Hagerstown. Death was due to pneumonia and followed an illness of thirteen weeks. Surviving are his widow, Jennie Sterling, and four children, Mrs. Wooden, Mrs. Mary Mouse, Williamsport; Norman B. Sterling, Halfway, and Daniel B. Maugansville; fourteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive. Funeral services were held at the home Wednesday afternoon, the Rec. W. K. Diehl, of the Lutheran Church, of Clearspring officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.

While riding his motorcycle on the N W Turnpike about 13 miles east of Romney last Wed, Mr Edward Sterling fell dead. Mr Sterling has been chief engineer of the Pulp Mill of Lake Md for several years. He and Rev Robt Iser of Piedmont were on their way to Richmond Va, for a sight-seeing trip. Mr Sterling was 50 years old and leaves a widow, a son and a daughter. The body was taken to Luke Thursday on 55 and the interment was at Wilmington.

The boiler at Geo W. Wilson's saw mill near Wilson Station on the W.Va. Central, exploded on Wednesday killing three men and injuring another man and a boy, none of whose names could be learned
- Later news from Gormania gives the names of the dead as Edward Miller, Isaac Rinker, ___ Sterringer, and Lee Floyd. The remains of Floyd were brought here yesterday and forwarded to his home at Fairmont.

Mrs. Alda Viola Stevanus, 79, of 1317 Ella Avenue, died this morning in the Cumberland Nursing Home where she had been a patient for a year and a half. She was born January 27, 1896 in Berlin, Pa., a daughter of the late Henry and Susan (Sivits) Brant. She was a graduate of the state normal school in Berlin and had been a school teacher in Pennsylvania. Mrs. Stevanus was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband. Ralph F. Stevanus; two daughters. Mrs. L. R. McKenzie, LaVale, and Mrs. Carl Weakley, Frederick; one brother, Miles Brant, Berlin, and one sister, Mrs. Albert Cober, also of Berlin: five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home today from 7 to 9 p.m. and tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

MEYERSDALE, Feb. 12 — Mrs. Clara Briskey Stevanus, 80, died Friday at the home of a son, Alton Briskey, at Meyersdale, R. D. Her first husband was John Briskey and her second, Jerry Stevanus. There are two sons, five daughters, 27 grandchildren and one sister.

Meyersdale - Mrs. Florence Mae Stevanus, 51, died yesterday at Meyersdale Community Hospital following a lingering illness. Born in Corriganville, she was the daughter of D. P. Everline, Cantwell, Mo., and the late Bertha Logsdon Everline. She was a life-long member of St. John's Evangelical United Brethren Church, White Oak. Surviving besides her father are her husband, Ralph Stevanus; four daughters, Mrs. Jane Brocht, Glen Dale, Md., Ethel, Nancy and Mary Stevanus, at home; three brothers, Harold Everline, LaVale, Md.; Franklin Everline, Bellevue, Wash.; and Paul Everline, Winchester, Va.; one sister, Mrs. Dorothy Lehr, Wellersburg; and three grandchildren. The body is at the Price Funeral Home. A service will be conducted at the St. John's EUB Church Thursday at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Earl E. Meyers, pastor, will officiate, assisted by Rev. Stevanus, 83, retired farmer and lumberman, who died yesterday afternoon at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Mary Staggs, of Potomac Park, with whom he had resided for the past two years. The Rev. Roy Kinsinger and the Rev. Walter Otto will officiate and interment will follow in the church cemetery. The body is at the home of Mrs. Staggs. A native of Springs, Mr. Stevanus was a son of the late John and Elizabeth (Yoder) Stevanus. He retired about ten years ago. Mr. Stevanus was a member of the Mennonite church in Springs. His wife, Mrs. Rebecca (Keefer) Stevanus, died a number of years ago. Besides Mrs. Staggs, Mr. Stevanus is survived by three other daughters, Mrs. Naomi Tressler, Harrisonburg, Va.; Mrs. Fred Grenke, Lincoln Park, Mich.; and Miss Susan G. Stevanus, who resides with Mrs. Staggs. Also surviving are three sons, Elmer Stevanus, Portland, Ore.; Ira Stevanus, Los Angeles, Calif.; and Ralph E. Stevanus, Hyndman, Pa.; a sister, Mrs. Lydia Schrock, Farmington, Del.; 17 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

MEYERSDALE — Harry L. Stevanus, 72, RD l, Meyersdale, died yesterday in Meyersdale Community Hospital. He was a native of RD 1, Meyersdale, a son of the late Franklin and Alice (Keefer) Stevanus. A World War I veteran, he was a member of the VFW post here. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lillian (Decker) Stevanus; a daughter, Mrs. Alfred Anderson, RD 1; two brothers, Rudolph Stevanus, RD 1, and Lester Stevanus, Wheeling, W. Va.; three sisters, Mrs. Ellen Anderson, RD 1; Mrs. Florence Klink, Richmond, Ohio, and Mrs. Maud Weimer, Garrett, Pa., two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The body will be at the Price Funeral Home here after 1 p.m. today. A funeral service will be held there Sunday at 2:30 p. m. by Rev. Richard Harder and interment will follow in St. Paul's Cemetery.

GRANTSVILLE — Mrs. Mintie Stevanus, 75, of Springs, Pa., died this morning at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Orpha Wertz, Bay Port, Mich. Born in Garrett County, she was a daughter of the late Eli C. and Catherine (Beachy) Miller. Mrs. Stevanus was a member of Springs Mennonite Church and the Sewing Circle of the church. Surviving, besides Mrs. Wertz, are a son, Ray Stevanus, Bridgeport, Mich.; another daughter, Mrs. Mildred Schaffer, Johnstown, Pa.; two brothers, Irvin Miller, Grantsville, and Harry Miller, Goshen, Ind.; two sisters, Mrs. Nannie Wengerd, Wadsworth, Ohio, and Mrs. Tillie Killius, Grantsville; nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. The body will be returned here and taken to the Newman Funeral Home where friends will be received tomorrow afternoon. Services will be conducted Saturday at 3 p.m. at Springs Mennonite Church by Rev. Walter Otto and interment will be in Springs Cemetery. The body will be taken to the church at noon Saturday.

Garrett, Pa., July 11 — Sherman Dewey Stevanus, 40, died Sunday at his home here after an extended illness. He was a son of Frank and Alice (Keefer) Stevanus and was born September 30, 1898. His father preceded him in death. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Wilson Judy of Garrett; his widow, Mrs. Stella (Robery) Stevanus, and three children - Evone, Rita, and Betty Stevanus, all at home. He was a brother of Larry Stevanus, Meyersdale; William Stevanus, Jerome; Rudy Stevanus, Johnstown; Lynn and Lester Stevanus, both of Garrett; Mrs. Lester Klink, Wellsburg, Va.; Mrs. Oscar Weimer and Miss Ellen Stevanus, both of Garrett. 10 May 1915 Mrs Agnes Stevens, aged 80 years, widow of Job Stevens, died Saturday (9 May) at the home of son-in-law, George Miller of Allegany. She was an invalid for the last 20 years of life and was a native of Gloustershire, England; being born there in 1835. Surviving children are: George of Borden; Mrs William Sweene; Mrs John Downton; Mrs George Miller; Miss Minnie Stevens, all of Allegany; and Walter Stevens of Mt Savage. Services are at the residence with Rev J H Bickford and burial at Old Percy Cemetery.

STEVENS 08 Feb 1915 Mrs Theophilus Stevens, aged 58 years, died at her home at Allegany on Saturday(6 Feb). She was formerly Amanda Middleton of Paw Paw and has been an invalid for several years. Surviving children are Clarence Stevens of Iowa; Walter, Roy, Howard, Myrtle, Annie, and Emma Stevens all at home. Brothers and sisters surviving are: Mrs Richard Williams of Borden Shaft; Robert Middleton of Frostburg; Mrs Annie Robinson of Cumberland; Alexander Middleton of Carlos; Mrs George Reider of Hoffman Mines and Miss Rhoda Middleton of Paw Paw. The funeral is from the home and burial in the Percy Cemetery with Rev John A Grose officiating.

James J. Stevens, 74, of 48 LaVAle Boulevarde, died while being taken to Sacred Heart Hospital yesterday. Born in Frostburg, he was the son of the late James and Mary A. (Edwards) Stevens. He was a member of Cumberland Aerie 245, Fraternal Order of Eagles. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Mell Stevens and a sister, Mrs,. Sarah Burton, a patient at Allegany County Infirmary. The body is at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, where friends will be received today from 7 until 9 p.m and tomorrow from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9 p.m.

Word was received here on Monday of the death of Mr. Job Stevens, a former resident of this place in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Saturday. Mr. Stevens was 52 years of age and was born at Allegany mines and resided there most of his life, leaving here about four years ago for Indianapolis, where he made his home ever since. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Mt. Savage. The remains will arrive some time today. The hour of the funeral will depend upon the arrival of the body.

The Masonic Lodge of Mt Savage attended in a body. Rev. George K. Maydwell, of the first. M. E. Church, officiated at the service. interment was inside in the old Percy cemetery.

FROSTBURG — Kathryn W. Stevens, 85, of Frostburg, died Thursday, March 16, 2006, at Saint Vincent dePaul Nursing Center. Born Jan. 15, 1921, in Eckhart, she was the daughter of the late Arthur E. Wonn and Gertrude (Rephann) Wonn. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Aurthur Stevens; one sister, G. Virginia Stevens; two brothers, Chester Wonn and Victor Wonn; and one brother-in-law, Clarence “Buddy” Stevens. Kathryn was the last of her immediate family. Mrs. Stevens was a retired Cresaptown Elementary School teacher. She was a member of the Eckhart United Methodist Church and attended the English Baptist Church. Surviving are one son, Jay Stevens and wife Janet, Frostburg; one grandson, Alex Stevens; and a granddaughter, Tristan Stevens. Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a m. with the Rev. George Harpold officiating. Interment will be in the Eckhart Cemetery.

FROSTBURG — Mrs. Mabel Stevens, 39 Water Street, died Sunday in Frostburg Community Hospital where she had been a patient since Wednesday. Born at Lonaconing, she was a daughter of the late Hugh and Maria (Hohing) Speir. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Surviving are three sisters, Lillian Stewart and Mrs. Louise Spates, both of here, and Mrs. Agnes Jeffries, Baltimore, and three nephews, Noel Speir Cook and Hugh and James Jeffries, all of here. Services were conducted today by the Rev. Donald Sause and the Rev. Steven Washburn. Burial was in Frostburg Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Noel Speir Cook, William Lemmert, William Frye, Ralph Race, William Spates and Maurice Spates.

Charles H. Stevenson died early Friday at his home, 232 Summit Avenue, aged 83 years. He was born in Midland. Md., the son of the late David and Matilda Stevenson and had been a resident of this city for twenty-six years. Before his retirement he was Sexton of St Mary's Catholic Church. He was a member of St Mary's Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society. Surviving are daughters: Mrs Herbert Niner; Mrs Leon Cook, Funkstown; Mrs Howard Jolliffe and Mrs Edward Trumpower, this city; sons, James, Charles, Thomas, Joseph and John H, this city; Wilbur, Morgantown, W Va; sisters, Miss Agnes Clise, Midland, Md; Mrs Belle Beeman, Frostburg, Md; Mrs Margaret Powell, Midland; half-brother, Harry Clise, Wheeling, W Va; thirty-four grandchildren and twenty-eight great grandchildren. The body was removed to the Kraiss Funeral Home where it may be viewed until Monday morning at 8:30 a.m. Requiem mass will be offered Monday morning at 9:00 a.m. at St Mary's Catholic Church, the Rev Father Charles Dausch celebrant. Interment in Rose Hill Cemetery. The Holy Name Society will meet at the Kraiss Funeral Home Sunday night at 7:00 to recite the Rosary.

Mrs. Hugh Stevenson – Lonaconing, Oct. 6 – Services were held this afternoon in Ford Memorial Methodist Church, Ford City, Pa. near Pittsburgh, for Mrs. Fannie Stevenson, 67, wife of Hugh Stevenson, native of Lonaconing, who died Tuesday evening in Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh. The pastor, Rev. C.L. Moore, officiated, and interment was in Lawn Haven Burial Estates. Mrs. Stevenson was born February 1, 1878, the daughter of the late John and Eliza (Ward) Wright. She was a member of the Pythian of Lonaconing, and of Ford memorial Church. Besides her husband, she is survived by five daughters and two sons: Mrs. Samuel B. McFarlane, of Lonaconing; Mrs. Jennie McKenzie, Frostburg; Mrs. William F. Lewis, Uniontown, Pa.; Mrs. T.J. Gillen, Ford City; Mrs. Harry Mixelberger, Ford City; Albert Stevenson of Ford City, who was honorably discharged from the Navy recently, and Hugh Stevenson, RDM 2-c, Navy, enroute home from the Pacific. Also surviving are a brother, Albert Wright, of Ford City, Pa.; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

CARLOS — George M. Stevenson, 87, of here, died today in Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient since March 30. He had been in failing health a year. Born in Scotland, he was a son of the late James and Elizabeth (McFarlane) Stevenson. He was preceded in death also by his wife, Lillian (Adams) Stevenson, June 2, 1916. A retired employe of the Celanese Corporation filtration department, Mr. Stevenson was a member of Carlos United Methodist Church, where he taught an adult Sunday school class. He is survived by a son, James G. Stevenson, Cumberland, who is clerk to the County Commissioners; two daughters, Mrs. Edith Hutcheson, with whom he resided, and Mrs. Elisabeth Winters, also of Carlos; brother, James Stevenson, Cumberland; a sister, Mrs. Margaret Adams, Wilkinsburg, Pa.; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. The body is at the Durst Funeral Home.

Lonaconing, Md Jun 16 - James Stevenson, aged 81 years, died yesterday at his home on Railroad Street. He was born in Scotland and when he was about five years of age, his family moved to Nova Scotia, thence to Eckhart, county, and later to Lonaconing. He is survived by six sons and four daughters: Edward, David, John, all of this place; Frank, Midlothian, this county; James, Cleveland, O; and Walter Stevenson, Washington, D.C. and Mrs Daniel Stakem, Lonaconing; Mrs Phillip Rank, Cumberland; Mrs Harmon Gannon, Barton and Miss Katie Stevenson, at home; 19 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren all survive. Mr Stevenson was a member of the Episcopal Church, the Odd Fellows and the Mystic Chain.

James H. Stevenson, 73, of the Colonial Hotel, died at his residence Monday morning. Born in Midland, he was the son of Charles and Sarah Morris Stevenson. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society. He was employed with Western Maryland Railway for several years before retiring 12 years ago. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Mary Margaret Campbell of Florissant, Mo.; three sisters, Mrs. Anna Jolliffe, Mrs. Leona Cook and Mrs. Grace Trumpower, all of Hagerstown; three brothers, J. Harry Stevenson, Charles L. Stevenson and John H. Stevenson, all of Hagerstown; and one grandchild. Requiem Mass will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church Wednesday at 10 a,m. by Father Passarelli. Joseph Henry (Harry) Stevenson, 73, of 36 East Washington St., died at the Washington County Hospital Wednesday afternoon. Born in Midland, Md., he was the son of Charles and Sarah Morris Stevenson. He was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Junior Fire Company No. 3, Owls Club No. 1780, the Loyal Order of Moose No. 212, the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 694, the Red Men Club No. 197, the North American Rod and Gun Club No. 245, Fraternal Order of Police No. 88, Woodman of the World Camp No. 1, Cumberland Valley Volunteer Firemen's Association, all of Hagerstown, and Owl's Club No. 588 of Waynesboro, Pa. He was employed by the City of Hagerstown Street Department as a foreman prior to his retirement in 1968. He is survived by his wife, Anna Mary Rae Stevenson; six daughters, Mrs. Delores Howard, Mrs. Anna Mary Grams, Mrs. Loreda Elgin, and Mrs. Lelia Fratianni, all of Hagerstown, Mrs. Jean Day of Baltimore, and Mrs. Christiana Harris of Smithsburg; three sons, John Stevenson, Joseph Stevenson, and Marvin Stevenson, all of Hagerstown; three sisters, Mrs. Annie Jolliffe, and Mrs. Grace Trumpower, both of Hagerstown, and Mrs. Leona Cook of Florida; one brother, Charles Stevenson of Hagerstown; 30 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Born Nov. 28, 1910, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Annie (Stouffer) Holler. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James G. "Scotty" Stevenson, in 1990; two sons, George W. Stevenson and James G. Stevenson Jr.; one sister, Thelma Walker; and one brother, Elmer Holler. Mrs. Stevenson was a homemaker. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and the McKinley Chapter No. 12 Order of the Eastern Star. Surviving are one son, Allan R. An Eastern Star service will be conducted Wednesday at 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be conducted at Grace United Methodist Church, Thursday at 9:30 a.m. with Pastor Richard H. Jewell officiating. Interment will be in Lybarger Lutheran Cemetery, Madley, Pa. The family requests contributions be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 130 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, MD 21502. Pallbearers will be James G. Stevenson III, Craig A. Stevenson, Scott A. Stevenson, Dale M. Brakeall, Dean M. Brakeall and Richard L. King.

Frostburg - Mrs. Lillian Adams Stevenson, 54, wife of George M. Stevenson, died last night at her home in Carlos. She had been in failing health two years. She was a daughter of the late George and Edith Adams and a native of Frostburg, but had lived in Carlos most of her life. She was a member of Carlos Methodist church. Besides her husband, she is survived by one son, James Stevenson, clerk of the Board of Commissioners of Allegany County; and two daughters, Mrs. Archibald Hutchinson and Mrs. Elizabeth Winters, both of Carlos. Four brothers, George Adams, of Cumberland; Thomas Adams, of Mt. Savage; Stephen Adams, of Frostburg; and William Adams, of Carlos; two sisters, Mrs. David Fatkin, of Carlos, and Mrs. William Walker, of Wright's Crossing; seven grandsons and one granddaughter also survive.

Mrs. Sarah Catherine Stevenson, wife of Charles H. Stevenson, died this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Catherine Miner, 68O Pennsylvania avenue, aged 56. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of America. Her survivors are her husband, mother, Mrs. James Morris, this city; six sons, James, Harry J., Thomas, Charles, Wilbur and John, all of this city; daughters, Mrs. Catherine Miner and Mrs. Anna Jollife, this city; Mrs. Leona Cook, Martinsburg and Grace Stevenson, this city; sisters, Mrs. Roy Smith, this city, and Mrs. Thomas Marley, Lonaconing; brothers, John. Charles and Hugh Morris, Westernport, Md.; William, Morris, Pa.; Thomas, Morgantown, W. Va. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren. Funeral Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock from St. Marys Catholic Church by Rev. Fr. J. A. Soucy. Burial in Rose Hill cemetery.

Thomas Stevenson, 67, of 12 West Side Ave,, died Saturday at Washington County Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Midland, he was the son of Charles H. and Sara Morris Stevenson. He had been employed by the Modern Shoe Shop for 34 years and was a member of the Moose Club for 28 years. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Catherine K Nokes of Hagerstown; two sons, Thomas Joseph Stevenson and James Albert Stevenson, both of Hagerstown; three sisters Mrs. Anna Jolliffe, Mrs. Leon Cook and Mrs. Grace Trumpower, all of Hagerstown; four brothers, James H. Stevenson, Harry J. Stevenson, Charles I Stevenson and John H. Stevenson, all of Hagerstown; and three grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Rest Haven Funeral Chapel with the Rev Luther C. Barnhart officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 7 to 9.

W. C. (Pete) Stevenson, formerly of Hagerstown, died at his home n Morgantown. W. Va., Wednesday at 10 a. m., of a heart attack. He was 48 years old. The son of the late Charles H and Catherine Stevenson, he was born in Midland, Md. He was a member of the Moose, Elks, Eagles, and Temple Club. He was employed at Lake View Country Club. Surviving are wife, Edwina; daughters. Patricia, Katherine, Susan at home; brothers, James, Joseph, Thomas, Charles. John. Hagerstown; sisters, Mrs. Herbert Niner. Mrs. Howard Jolliffe, Mrs. Leon Cook, and Mrs. Edward Trumpower, Hagerstown. The funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a. m. at Davidson's Funeral Home. Morgantown, with interment in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Frostburg, Aug 10 - Services for Alec Stevey, 67, of Midlothian, retired coal miner who died yesterday in Memorial Hospital Cumberland, will be conducted tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the Hafer Funeral Home here by the Rev. Edwin Stevenson, pastor of the Assembly of God Church. Interment will be in Allegany cemetery.

Charles Stevey, Jr. Fataly Injured
Injured last Tuesday, when a truck or miniature tractor wrecked while enroute to an air field, Charles W. Stevey, Jr., 20, of 519 Patterson avenue, this city, died yesterday at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Bay Pines, Fla., according to word received here yesterday by his mother, Mrs. Mattie Bell Simpson. A native of Cumberland, Stevey enlisted in the United States Air Corps six months ago. The youth is survived by his mother and step-father, Walter Simpson, of this city, and one brother. After an autopsy is performed the body will be sent to the Lemperuer Residence. Stevey is the third Allegany county man in the armed services to meet death by accident. He was preceded by Sgt. Lloyd Boor, of Bedford road, who succumbed in the Pacific after being struck by the propeller of an airplane. Staff Sgt. William Fred Rosey(?) was killed when an army bomber crashed in Kentucky.

Stevey was seriously injured Jan. 12 when a vehicle wrecked enroute to an airfield.

Rites Conducted for C. W. Stevey
Services for Pvt. Charles W. Stevey, Jr., 20, who died Sunday at Veterans Administration Hospital, Bay Pines, Fla., following an accident January 12, were conducted this afternoon at the Lempereur Residence by the Rev. James D. Steele, pastor of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. Interment was in Hillcrest Burial Park. Pvt. Stevey was a son of Mrs. Mattie Bell Simpson, 819 Patterson avenue. Among those attending the services were his father, Pvt. Charles W. Stevey, Sr., Army Air Forces, Memphis, Tenn., and Pfc. Albert Kurner, Philadelphia, a member of the same Army unit as young Stevey. Military rites were conducted at the grave by Fort Cumberland Post, No. 13, American Legion . Joseph M. Fradiska sounded taps. Pallbearers were William P. Brady, F. Earl Brode, James C. Lehman, William H. Fleshchinger, George W. Banzhof and Claude L. Deal.

Jacob Stevey Rites
Frostburg, Oct 27 - Funeral services for Jacob Stevey, Grantsville, former resident of Midlothian, who was shot Thursday morning by his wife, Beulah Warnick Stevey, who the authorities say confessed, were held yesterday afternoon from Hafer's Funeral Home. Rev. H. B. Kelchner, pastor of the Assembly of God Church, Midlothian, officiated. Stevey, a World War veteran, was given military honors by Farrady Post, No. 24, American Legion, with Clyde Hassenger, Roy Sleeman, John Whitehead, Joseph Comer and Frank Hosken, members of the Post serving as pallbearers. A salute was fired over the grave by the firing squad, under the command of S. W. Green. Taps were sounded by Bugler Ernest McKenzie. Interment was in Allegany Cemetery.
