Mrs. Clara Winn, former local resident, died yesterday at the home of her son, Thomas J. Winn, in Oklahoma City, Okla. She was the widow of Francis T. Winn. Her parents were the late Hugh and Jean (Caldwell) Spear. A sister of the late Hugh Spear, Frostburg, and the late Caldwell Spear, Lonaconing, she was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are another son, F. Bliss Winn, North Easton, Mass., and two daughters, Miss Jean Winn, Austin, Texas, and Mrs. Elizabeth Malchenson, Hagerstown. The body will be taken to Lonaconing for burial in Oak Hill Cemetery

Miss Elizabeth Winn, 38 North Liberty street, was advised of the sudden death in New York of her father, Francis Patrick Winn, 68, who was well known in the Cumberland area, having been employed in the postal service here. For the past few years Mr. Winn was engaged in the real estate and insurance business in Long Island, N. Y. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Clara Winn; two daughters, Elizabeth and Jeanne Winn, of this city; and two sons, F. Bliss and Thomas Winn of Marietta, Ohio.

Funeral of Mrs. Theresa Winn
Frostburg, Md., July 25— The funeral of Mrs. Theresa Winn, aged 28 years, who died at the Mount Hope Sanitarium near Baltimore, Sunday. The funeral will be held from the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. Louis Miner[sic], Clarysville, Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock. Rev. James J. Quinn, of St. Michael's Catholic Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Catholic Cemetery. Besides her husband, William Winn, who is now a patient at the Spring Grove Hospital, near Baltimore, and her parents, the following children survive: John, Katherine and Naomi. Three sisters, Mrs. Louise Connor, Mrs. Margaret Youngerman and Miss Florence Niner, and five brothers, Louis, Henry, George, Hershey(sic) and James also survive.

Surviving are his widow, Blanche (Crowe) Winn; a son, John F. Winn, Frostburg; a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Thoerig, Akron, Ohio; a sister, Mrs. Francis Harvey, Bowling Green; two brothers, Thomas Winn, Allen Park, Mich., and Joseph Winn, Keyser. The body will be returned to the Eichhorn Funeral Home.

Frostburg. Oct. 30— Albert J. Winner, 50(sic). son of the late Sebastian and Mary (Entler) Winner died suddenly this morning at his home at Consolidation Village following a heart attack. Mr Winner, a Celanese employe, had been ill for two weeks, but his condition had not been regarded as serious., He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church.
Surviving are his widow, the former Miss Emma Robison. and five sons, Frederick Camp Pickett, Va.; Manuel, Consolidation Village; Albert, George and Leonard, at home, and three daughters, Mn. Alonza Crowe, Mt Savage, and Mary and Ruth Winner, at home.

FROSTBURG — Mrs. Emma C. Winner, 70, of Consolidation, died yesterday in Miners Hospital. Born at Avilton, she was a daughter of the late Jacob and Rhoda (Garlitz) Robison. Her husband, Albert J. Winner, preceded her in death. Mrs. Winner was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and Sodality of the church. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Helen Crowe, Zihlman; Mrs. Mary Weitzel, Frostburg; Mrs. Ruth Turner, Avilton; six sons, Manuel, Fred, Albert, George, Leonard, and Harry Winner, all of Consolidation; a brother, Howard Robison, Avilton; 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. The body is at the Hafer Funeral Home, where friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A requiem mass will be celebrated Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Michael's Church, and burial will be in St. Ann's Cemetery, Avilton.

Her husband, William Winner, preceded her in death. Frostburg, Md., Oct. 19—The funeral of Frank Winner, aged 57 years who died suddenly Tuesday morning of the home of his brother, Sebastian Winner, Avilton, Garrett county, was held Thursday morning at 9 o'clock from Saint Michael's Catholic Church, with requiem high mass, celebrated by the pastor,Rev. James Quinn. Burial was in Saint Michael's Cemetery. The pallbearers were: Paul Maurey, Giles Maurey. Edward Maurev Harry Dishong, Joseph Bauer and John Keating, Jr. Mr. Winner is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary Hoye Winner, three sons, Bernard, Aloysius and Joseph, and one daughter, Elizabeth. Born in Frostburg on July 9, 1884, he was a son of the late Harmon and Laura (Crowe) Winner. His wife, Margaret (Brode) Winner, preceded him in death. He was a retired Celanese employe. Other survivors include five sisters, Mrs. Annie Lucas and Mrs. Corey McKenzie of Frostburg; Mrs. Clara Youngerman and Miss Agnes Winner of Rockville, and Mrs. Bernice Holland of Frederick, Okla.; one brother, Harry Winner of Frostburg; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was a member of St. Michael's Church where a requiem mass will be celebrated tomorrow at 9:30 a. m. Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park. The body is at the Durst Funeral Home where friends will be received from 2 to 4 p. m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Mr. Winner owned and operated Winner's Jewelry Store on Market St., where he had been in business for about 30 years. Found Dead In Mine
Harmon Winner, aged 60, this place, was found dead Tuesday afternoon in a mine of the Gleason Coal and Coke Company at Gleason, W. Va., where he had been working as a laborer. He was discovered by a car driver in a sitting posture with the carbide lamp on his cap still burning. He seemed all right physically when he entered the mine and the cause of death has not yet been determined. He is survived by his wife and large family residing here, and the body will likely be brought home. Mrs. Winner left for Gleason following receipt of the news of her husband's death.

Burned about the head and body Tuesday, when an old canal boat along the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal near Wineow street, was swept by fire, James Clifford Winner, 51, a barber, of 453 Goethe Street, died at 1:30 a. m., today, at Memorial Hospital. Carl Johnson, 63, who lived in the abandoned hulk, was trapped by flames and was burned to death in his bed. Winner, who had been visiting Johnson, was able to crawl about 30 feet from the flaming boat, with his clothing afire, and had been in a serious condition since he was hurried to the hospital. A native of Frostburg, Winner came to this city about 15 years ago and had been employed in several local shops. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Ida Winner, Frostburg; his widow, Mrs. Rapheal (Parker) Winner; four sons, Ver(letters missing) J., James H., John and Ralph, at home; four daughters, Mrs. Cle(letters missing) Miller, Mrs. Benjamin Miller, Mrs. Lawrence Izer and Miss Betty Winner, all of this city; four grandchildren; three brothers, Harry and Joseph, of Turtle Creek, Pa., and Frank, of Frostburg; a half-brother, Harry Winner, Frostburg, and six sisters, Mrs. Clara Youngerman and Agnes Winner, Rockville, Md.; Miss Bernie Winner, Texas; Mrs. Ellen Keating, Mrs. Anne Lucas and Mrs. Margaret McKenzie, Frostburg. Jerry Lee Winner, 56, went to be with the lord on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 after a motorcycle accident. Born November 13, 1958 in Frostburg, to Carolyn Crowe and the late Harry S. Winner. Jerry was a great father, great friend, and great brother who never met a stranger. He loved hunting, fishing, and was a taxidermist. Jerry also loved his Harley, Ford, and Mustang. His greatest love was for his children and his dog Oreo. After graduating from high school we went to work for Winner Coal Company and then on to Excavating Associates. In addition to his mother Carolyn Crow and husband James, he is survived by his; sons, Zachary Winner, Bradley Winner and girlfriend Nikita Miller; daughter, Ashley Winner; sisters, Melanie Gray and husband Rick, Jill Winner; special friends, Frankie Lease, Joe Bevan, Bernie Garlitz and Randy Wright. Jerry was cremated in accordance with his wishes. A Mass will be held at St. Michaels Catholic Church on Monday, September 21, 2015 at 11 am with Father Ed Hendricks as celebrant. Friends and family will be received one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11am. Inurnment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.

Death of an Old Lady.
Mrs. Joseph Winner, a widow and one of the oldest ladies of the town, died at her home on Federal Hill of old age and general debility . The deceased was in her seventy-third year and was a very devoted member of the St Michael's Catholic church, which she attended regularly until failing health deprived her of doing so. She is survived by the following children:Harmon Winner, Ross Winner, Edward Winner, Frank Winner and one daughter, Mrs Joseph Maurey all off this place. The funeral arrangements have not been completed.
The Frostburg Furniture Company have charge of the remains.

The funeral of Mrs. Joseph Winner, who died Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock --- St. Michael's Church .... Father Nolan celebrated mass and conducted the funeral service --- after which interment took place in St. Michael's Catholic cemetery. Those who served as pall bearers were as follows: Messrs. D. F. McMullen, Frank Spates, James McAllister, John McDonald, John Tipton, and Jacob Narin. The deceased was born in Saxony, Germany in 1828 and came to this country with her parents when one year and four months old, where she has resided ever since. Mrs. Winner was a very devoted and charitable worker who never failed to listen to the hungry and needy and was beloved by all who knew her. She leaves the following children: Harmon, Sebastian, Edward and Francis, and one daughter, Mrs. Joseph M---, all of this area.

Turtle Creek, Pa. - Joseph W. Winner Sr., 82, of 513 Pennsylvania Avenue, Monroeville, a native of Frostburg, died at his home Saturday. He was born in Frostburg and worked in that area as a coal miner before moving to the Westinghouse Valley area, where he was employed as a machinist in the Westinghouse Electric Company plant for 27 years, prior to his retirement in 1943. He was a member of the Westinghouse Veterans Association. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Lillian Simmons and Mrs. Dorothy Miller; three sons, Joseph Wm. Winner, Jr., Samuel J . Winner and Clifton Winner; five sisters, Mrs. Annie Lucas, Mrs. Clara Youngerman, Miss Agnes Winner, Mrs. Bernice Holland and Mrs. Margaret McKenzie; two brothers, Harry and Frank Winner; eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The body is at the Jobe Funeral Home, Turtle Creek, and will remain there until 2 p.m. tomorrow when services will be conducted in McMasters Methodist Church here.

Born in Garrett County, he was a son of the late Albert J. and Emma (Robertson) Winner. His first wife, Mrs. Isabelle (Labor) Winner, preceded him in death. He was an employe of Amcelle Plant of Celanese Fibers Company and was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary (Guest) Winner, a son, Thomas P. FROSTBURG — Mrs. Margaret Winner, 70, wife of Frank Winner, 113 Centennial Street, Extended, died at her home this morning. She had been in failing health for some time. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Althea (Hansel) Brode. Surviving are a son, Raymond C. Winner, Frostburg; a brother, Adam Brode, Frostburg; two sisters, Mrs. James Leonard, Cloverdale, Pa., and Mrs. Rebecca Gerlach, Oldtown, and five grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive.

Mrs. Winner was a former resident of Frostburg and a member of St. Michael's church. Surviving besides her daughter are three sons, Bernard F. Winner, Lonaconing; Aloysius Winner, Mt. Savage, and Joseph Winner, Frostburg; one brother, Joseph Hoye and two sisters, Sister Mary Albana, Baltimore, and Sister Mary Leo, at the Convent of Mercy, Cressen, Pa. LONACONING - A solemn high mass for Miss Mary Bernadette Winner, Watercliffe, was celebrated yesterday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Miss Winner, 23, daughter of Vernard F. and Kathleen Rafferty Winner, died Monday, afternoon in Allegany Hospital, Cumberland, following an operation. Rev. Charles W. Eagan, pastor of St. Mary's, was celebrant of the mass. Father Richard, Washington, served as deacon. (Other ministers mentioned) Miss Winner was an honor graduate of Central High School, class of 1945, and from the Allegany School ol Nursing in 1948. After working a year as supervisor at Allegany Hospital, she was employed as a nurse at Dr. C. C. Zimmerman's office. Pallbearers were Harry Lee DeVore, Michael Meyers, Joseph O'Rourke, Walter Sommerberg, Raymond Becker and William Kelly. Interment was in the parish cemetery.

A native of Frostburg, she was a daughter of the late John and Frances (Prendergast) Parker, and widow of J. Clifford Winner. Mrs. Winner retired four years ago from the G. C. Murphy Company and was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Sodality of the church. She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Clement Miller, Mrs. Gerturde Miller, Mrs. Harry Morin and Mrs. Carl Deolan, all of the city; three sons, Verner J., with whom she resided; Sgt. John, with the Army at Hopewell, VA., and Ralph D. Winner, Short Gap; two sisters, Mrs. Florence Carney, Silver Spring, and Mrs. Catherine Cunningham, Wilkinsburg, Pa.; 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The body is at the Hafer Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A requiem mass will be celebrated Monday at 9 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. The Sodality will recite the rosary Sunday at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Smith, Pittsburgh; Mrs. Al Stern and Mrs Chet Shearer, both of Dayton, Ohio, and Mrs. James Lowery, Frostburg; four sons, Paul J. Winner, Pittsburgh; John Winner, Brooklyn, N.Y.; Terrance Winner, Parkton, and Edward Winner, Washington, Pa.; one brother, Arvil Winner, Avilton; 19 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The body is at the Eichhorn Funeral Home in Lonaconing, where friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p. m. Mrs. Harriet Winter, widow of John H. Winter, died Monday morning at 9 o'clock from complication of diseases and old age. She is survived by four children, Elijah Winter, Mrs. Joseph Grant, Mrs. Chas. Winterberg and Mrs. Samuel McKenzie, 38 grandchildren, a number of great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon from the Methodist Episcopal Church at Cresaptown. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Her age was 91 years, 9 months and 25 days.

GRANTSVlLLE - Miss Christine Winterberg, 85, died early yesterday morning at Meyersdale (Pa.) Community Hospital where she had been a patient three weeks. A lifelong resident of Garrett County, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Sophia (Shireman) Winterberg. She was a charter member and past president of the Granstville Woman's Missionary Society and was a member of Grantsville Lutheran Church. She is survived by two brothers, William, with whom she resided, and Martin Winterberg, Bridgeport, Conn. The body is at the residence where services will be conducted tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. by Rev. Edward Noel, pastor of Grantsville Lutheran Church, assisted by Rev. S. D. Sigler, former pastor. Burial will be in Grantsville Cemetery.

F. William Winterberg, 81, of Grantsville, prominent Garrett County banker and businessman, died yesterday in Meyersdale Community Hospital. Mr. Winterberg, who also was a former mayor of Grantsville, had been a patient in the hospital two weeks and been ill for some time. A former funeral director, Mr. Winterberg had operated a funeral home 43 years before retiring in 1955. He also was president of the First State Bank of Grantsville, which recently merged with the Liberty Trust Company of Cumberland. Born in Grantsville, a son of the late Henry and Sophia (Shearerman) Winterberg, he was a director of the Cumberland Fair Association, and a member of the Maryland State Funeral Directors Association, Grantsville Cemetery Association, Grantsville Rotary Club, Garrett County Farm Bureau, Woodmen of the World and the Springs (Pa.) Historical Society. Mr. Winterberg also held membership in Christ Lutheran Church, Grantsville, was a long-time member of the Church Council and a past president of the Church Board. Surviving are a son, W. Hess Winterberg, Lancaster, Pa.; a stepson, Floyd Stanton, Akron; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Leota Younglove, Ypsilanti, Mich.; a granddaughter, Mrs. Sarah Damewood, Knoxville, Tenn., and a step-granddaughter, Mrs. Gertrude Hewett, Ypsilanti. The body is at the residence where it will remain until noon Sunday when it will be taken to Christ Lutheran Church for services at 2 p. m. Rev. S. D. Segler, former pastor, will be assisted by Rev. David Fetter, pastor, and interment will be in Grantsville Cemetery.

Henry Winterberg, 80, who resided with his son, Charles, 513 Dilley Street, died last night at Memorial Hospital. He had been ill three weeks. Winterberg was employed as watchman at the city water works warehouse on Willowbrook Road. He was a plumber until retiring about 10 years ago. Winterberg was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Cumberland Aerie No. 245, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and Ohr Lodge, Masons. He is survived by three sons, Charles and Joseph, this city; John, of Arlington, Va.; one brother, William, and a sister, Christina, both of Grantsville, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The body will remain at the Hafer Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Mrs. Mary Frances Winterberg, formerly of 247 North Centre street, died today at Allegany County Infirmary, where she was a patient five years. Mrs. Winterberg was born in Fort Ashby, a daughter of the late Edward and Caroline Allen. Mrs. Winterberg was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Twice married, she was preceded in death by both husbands, Charles Riley and Henry Winterberg. Survivors include a son-in-law, James E. Lancaster, Mt. Savage, and several nieces and nephews. The body is at the Kight Funeral Home, where friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. and tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p. m. Services will be conducted Saturday at 9 a. m. in St. Paul's Lutheran Church by Rev. John F. Sammel, pastor, and burial will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery.

Grantsville, Md., April 14 — Mrs. Sophia Winterberg, aged 86, a native of Lutherbein, Waldeck, Germany, died Sunday afternoon. She came to America when 21 and shortly afterwards married Henry Winterberg, who died in 1893. She lived in the oldest house in Grantsville, built 100 years ago. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. Lydia Wiley, Miss Christina Winterberg and William Winterberg, Grantsville; Mrs. R. R. Montgomery and Henry and Lewis Winterberg, Cumberland, and Martin Winterberg, Corona, N. Y. A brother, Henry Schearerman, and sister, Mrs. Christine Frazer, both of Patterson, N. J., and a sister, Mrs. Katherine Borghoffer, Wildungen, Germany, also survive, besides twenty grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Emma Winterburg, of 24 North Centre Street, died Sunday in WesternMaryland Hospital, Hagerstown, following a long illness. Mrs. Winterburg was born at Huffman, a daughter of the late Richard and Elizabeth (Reid) Hendley. Her husband, Louis Winterburg, preceded her in death. For many years she was manager of the Towels Art Gallery, Washington, and after her retirement she was active in church work at Centre Street Methodist. She also was a past matron in the Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Sarah Rutter, Daytona Beach, Fla.; seven nieces and four nephews. The body is at the Stein Funeral Home where services will be conducted tomorrow at 2 p. m. by Rev. Carlton M. Harris, pastor of Centre Street Methodist Church. Interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park. Members of Chapter 56, Order of the Eastern Star,will conduct a memorial service today at the funeral home.

Carl Edward Wintermeyer, 53, husband of Mrs. Lena (Davis) Wintermeyer, 223 South Mechanic Street, was pronounced dead upon arrival at Allegany Hospital late yesterday afternoon. A native of LaVale, Mr. Wintermeyer has been employed by the Celanese Corporation of America. He was a son of John W. and the late Ella (Davis) Wintermeyer. He served in the Marine Corps during World War I. Besides his widow and father, he leaves his stepmother and a brother Bernard Wintermyer, Pittsburgh, and a half-sister, Mrs. Delores Kaylor, LaVale. The body is at the Stein Funeral Home where services will be conducted Saturday at 10 a.m. by Rev. Louis H. Ewald, rector of Holy Cross Episcopal Church. Military honors at the grave in Zion Memorial Burial Park.

John Wintermeyer, formerly of LaVale, died at his home, 528 Castle Drive, Baltimore, yesterday. He was born in LaVale and was the son of George and Katherine (Metz) Wintermeyer. He was 48 years of age. He was manager and part owner of the Eagle Sales Corporation, Baltimore. He is survived by his widow, Patience L. (Latimer) Wintermeyer; two brothers, Edward M., of Baltimore, and Henry F., of LaVale; two sisters; Mrs. Marion Crowe, Allan Parks, Michigan, and Mrs. Madeline W. Henry, LaVale, and by his father, George Wintermeyer, LaVale. He was a member of the Christian Science Church of Baltimore. The body will arrive at Stein's Funeral Home tomorrow night and services will be conducted there Tuesday afternoon at 2 p. m., with H. Monroe Harris, reader, officiating. He was a member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and was a former employe ot the LaVale Inn and the Tri State Roofing Company. Mr. Wintermeyer is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Floyd W. WINTERS, Mrs. Catherine Tippen
Frostburg, Aug. 5 - Funeral services for Mrs. Catherine Tippen Winters, wife of Thomas Winters, were held Wednesday morning at Saint Michael's Church. Rev. Joseph P. Nolan, pastor, was celebrant of the requiem high mass and delivered the funeral sermon. As the funeral cortege entered the church, Misses Angela Rooney and Carmen Bollino sang "Ave Maria." At the conclusion of the service, Miss Bollina sang another sacred number. Mrs. Winters was an ardent member of Saint Michael's Church all her life, and was a member of the Sodality and Court Ferdinand No. 556, Catholic Daughters of America. The funeral was largely attended by relatives and friends from Frostburg, Cumberland and other places. Interment was in Saint Michael's Cemetery. The flower bearers were William Watson, Thomas Higgins, George Tippen and James Quinn. Pallbearers were Richard Cullen, James Wilhelm, James McOran, John McGann, Charles Watson and Conrad Knott.

MIDLOTHIAN - Mrs. E. Lucille Winters, 82, of here, died yesterday at Sacred Heart Hospital. Born at Midlothian, Mrs. Winters was a daughter of the late William H. and Ellen J. (Loar) Barnes and was the widow of William H. Winters. She was a member of Trinity Assembly of God Church. Surviving are a son, Herman Winters, of here; a daughter, Mrs. Matthew Skidmore, with whom she resided; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The body is at the Hafer-Sowers Funeral Home, Frostburg, where friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. A service will be conducted there tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. by Rev. Robert W. Collette. Burial will be in Frostburg Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Alvin P. Brode, Jackie Winters, Rance Ritchie, Matthew Skidmore Jr., Raymond Walker and Aaron Winters.

Rowlesburg - Mrs. Edna Winters, 64, of Millersville, Md., died Wednesday in South Baltimore General Hospital. A native of Preston County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph E. and Amanda (Funk) Rodeheaver, and was the widow of Freeman H. Winters, who died in 1970. Surviving are eight sons, Junior, Alfred, Donald and Ronnie Winters, Baltimore; Paul, William and Truman Winters; Millersville, and Roy Winters, Glen Burnie; and two daughters, Mrs. Jeannie Rice, Glen Burnie, and Mrs. Gretta Loverah, Baltimore; two sisters, Mrs. Effie Sanders, Morgantown, and Mrs. Clara Case, here; two brothers, Douglas Rodeheaver, here, and Joseph Rodeheaver, Gormania, and 19 grandchildren. WINTERS, Elijah
Elijah Winters, aged 84, one of the oldest residents of the county, died at his home in Cresaptown this morning. He had been a resident there for more than thirty years, previously having resided on Dan’s Mountain. He was a son of the late John and Harriet Winters, early settlers in the Dan’s Mountain section, and for many years he operated saw mills and grist mills throughout this section. In recent years, however, he had lived a retired life. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Eliza Winters, a son, Wressel O. Winters, and two daughters, Mrs. Joseph F. McKenzie, Cresaptown, and Mrs. Lulu Winterberg, this city. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 o’clock Wednesday morning at the home with interment at Hill Crest Burial Park here. Rev. W.W. Patterson, pastor of the Cresaptown M.E. Church will officiate.

SHAFT — George Tippen (Tip) Winters, 67, of Baltimore, died Wednesday at Johns Hopkins Hospital, there. He had been a patient at Montebello Hospital, Baltimore, for several years. Born in Shaft, he was the son of the late Thomas and Katherine (Tippen) Winters, and was preceeded in death by his wife, Willa (Hess) Winters. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Genevieve T. Goldsworthy, Frostburg, and Mrs. William Malamphy, Baltimore, and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received in the John Stanshury Funeral Home, 6411 Windsor Mill Road, Woodlawn, Md. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 11 a. m. in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Dogwood and Rolling Roads, Woodlawn. Interment will be in Baltimore County.

Born in Cresaptown June 12, 1911, he was the son of the late Wressel 0. and Mary (Grabenstein) Winter. Mr. Winters was former owner-operator of Winters Garage, Cresaptown. He was a member of Cresaptown United Methodist Church and the Maryland Auto Wreckers Association. Surviving are his widow, Norma G. Winters, five sons, Carl E. Winters, Ralph M. Winters and Ronald K. Winters Sr., all of Cresaptown; Joseph M. Winters, Jr., York, S.C., and Roger L. Winters, Woodbridge, Va.; four daughters, Mrs. Rosalie C. Chapman, Winchester, Va.; Mrs. Frances L. Zembower Becker, Catawba, S.C., and Mrs. Shirley A. Morgan, and Mrs. Dian S. Wilhelm, both of Cresaptown; three sisters, Mrs. Edna L. Judy, Mrs. Catherine Chaney and Mrs. Deloris Shipe, all of Cresaptown; four brothers, Arthur Winter, Elmer R. Winter and Louis R. Winter, all of Cresaptown, and the Rev. Wilson, Midland; Mrs. Robert Knieriem, Meyersdale, Pa.; Miss Elizabeth Winters, Mrs. Rose Marie Wilt, Midland; three sons, Charles A Winters, Joseph R. Winters, John L. "Escort Will Meet Body Of Capt. Winters-A delegation of Frostburg service organizations will meet the body of Capt. Thomas F. Winters, native of that city, who died several weeks ago in a hospital in Germany, when it arrives tomorrow at 11:15 a.m. on B & O Passenger Train 11. The military escort will accompany the body of the former Allegany High School teacher to the Hafer Funeral Home, Frostburg. The 37-year-old area resident was born January 7, 1915, a son of the late Thomas and Katherine (Tippen) Winters, of Frostburg. Capt. Winters attended St. Michael's School and LaSalle High School. One year later he entered Ammendale Normal Institute and then graduated from LaSalle College in Philadelphia. He instructed mathematics at West Catholic High School, Philadelphia, for six years and then entered St. Mary's Seminary, Baltimore, to study for one year. Later he enlisted in the armed forces following the attack at Pearl Harbor. After completing officers' candidate training he was commissioned a lieutenant at Miami. Capt. Winters was later assigned as cadet instructor at Altus Air Base in Oklahoma. He also was a provost marshal in the Military Police. After his discharge, he became an instructor at Allegany High School and taught English for five years until he was recalled into the service in January. After being stationed at National Airport, Washington, he received orders in September to overseas duty in Germany. He arrived there October 6 and was stationed at Templehoff Air Base, Berlin, for two weeks. Later his family received word of his serious illness and death. Capt. Winters was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg; Chief Justice Taney Council, Fourth Degree, Knights of Columbus, Cumberland; Farrady Post, American Legion; Fairgrieve Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Braddock Chapter 9, Disabled American War Veterans. Surviving are two sisters, Mary Genevieve Goldsworthy and Mrs. Mary Malamphy, both of Frostburg, and a brother, George Winters, Baltimore."

She was buried in the German Lutheran Cemetery, Cumberland, last Thursday, by Rev. J. H. Balthis, of the M E Church, South. Henry Winterstein was her son.

Meyersdale woman dies of her injuries; Worker pinned beneath car that crashed into business
MEYERSDALE, Pa. — A secretary at Clapper’s Building Supplies died Friday morning, less than a day after she was pinned beneath a car that crashed through the business. Bonnetta Wisler, 59, of Meyersdale sustained back and abdominal injuries in the crash and died in the operating room at Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown, Cambria County Deputy Coroner Pete Long said. She was pinned beneath a 2005 Dodge Neon driven by Laurena Lint, 50, of Meyersdale, who backed through a concrete wall into the office on 11th Avenue in Meyersdale around 4:05 p.m. Thursday, state police said. The incident remains under investigation.

Bonnie L. Wisler, 58, Meyersdale, died Oct. 24, 2008, at Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown. Born Nov. 28, 1948, in Meyersdale. A daughter of Robert E. and Laverne (Geiger) Werner, Meyersdale. Also survived by her husband, George R. Wisler Jr.; daughter, Jennifer L., wife of Steve Miller, Meyersdale; and three grandchildren, Brandon, Logan and Carissa. A sister of Barry E. Werner, Meyersdale. Also survived by niece, Cary Werner and nephew, Barry Werner Jr. A member of the Mount Carmel Lutheran Church (White Oak). She was employed as a bookkeeper for Clapper's Building Materials in Meyersdale for 37 years. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Price Funeral Home, Meyersdale, where service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Glenn Foster and the Rev. Surviving are her husband, J. A. Wisler, and the following children: Ray Wisler, Everett; Mrs. Norman Zimmerman, Salisburg; Mrs. Pius Zimmerman, St. Paul; Mrs. William Hittie; Berlin; Harry Wisler, Ohio; Mrs. Everett Marker, at home; Mrs. Harry Smearman, Meyersdale, R. D., and George Wisler, at home. Also surviving are one sister, Mrs. Katie McClarie, Meyersdale, R. D., two half-sisters, Miss Lulu Boyer and Mrs. Charles Fadley, and one stepbrother, John, Meyersdale. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at the late residence, the Rev. H. Q. Wellersburg – Anthony Theodore Witt, 70, of here, was pronounced dead last night on arrival at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, where he was taken by ambulance. A miner and a farmer, he was born February 21, 1885, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Mary [sic] (Clites) Witt of RD 1, Hyndman. His wife was the late Mrs. Beulah (Hunt) [sic] Witt. Mr. Witt is survived by five sons, Andrew Kennedy Witt, Corriganville; Beaudrey Witt, at home; Herbert Witt, RD 1, Hyndman; Clyde Barr, Altoona, and Reed Chapman, Cumberland. He also leaves four [step-] daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Porter, Sand Patch; Mrs. Irvin Diehl [Rosalie] and Mrs. Genevieve Wilhelm, both of RD 1, Hyndman, and Mrs. Mabel Hersh, Cresaptown; a brother, Noah Witt, Wellersburg; two sisters, Mrs. Rachel Devore and Mrs. Stella Lowery, both of Ellerslie; 21 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband and daughters, she is survived by three other daughters, Mrs. Maybelle Hersh, Cresaptown; Mrs. Geneva Wilhelm, Wellersburg Road, and Mrs. Dorothy Porter, Sand Patch, Pa.; four sons, Beaudrey Witt, at home; Clyde Witt, Altoona, Pa., Reed Witt, this city, and Andrew Witt, Corriganville; 21 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Hayes Knight, Hanover, Pa.

Mrs. Catherine Witt, aged about 55 years, wife of Louis Witt, died at her home in Mt. Savage this morning. Mrs. Witt suffered a relapse after partially recovering from an attack of influenza. She is survived by two sons, Louis and Hugh, at home and four daughters: Miss Mary Witt, a teacher in the Mt. Savage public school; Miss Margaret Witt, a graduate nurse; Miss Agatha Witt, at home and Mrs. Hans Willison. of Cumberland and one sister, Mrs. John Sullivan. Morantown. Wellersburg – Edward Witt, 76, died at his residence here yesterday. Born in Ellerslie March 19, 1888, he was a son of the late William C. and Katie C. (Clites) Witt. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary (Troutman) Witt; two sons, Myrle E. Witt, Baltimore; and Curtis C. Witt, of here; a daughter, Mrs. Gladys Pope, of Eckhart; two sisters, Mrs. Rochelle Devore, Ellerslie; and Mrs. Minnie Hosselrode, RD 1, Hyndman; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. The body is at the Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, where friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p. m. Services will be conducted in the funeral home Tuesday at 2 p.m. with Rev. J. Howard Smith officiating and interment will be in the Getz Cemetery, Wellersburg.

Frostburg – Harry E. Witt, 70, who had been in failing health for several years, died early yesterday at his home, 128 West Main Street. Son of the late George and Alice (Moser) Witt, he was born at Wellersburg, Pa. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Bessie (Law) Witt; two children from a previous marriage, Marshall Witt, Wellersburg, and Ray Witt, Potomac Park; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Otis Britt, Cumberland; four brothers, Earl, Walter and Herbert Witt, all of Wellersburg, and George Witt, Akron, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Delbrook, Corriganville, and Mrs. B.C. Weller, Mt. Pleasant, Mich.; and eight grandchildren. Mr. Witt, who had been employed by the Frostburg Auto Company for 29 years, was a member of Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church, the Jr. Order United American Mechanics, and Patriotic Order, Sons of America, both of Cumberland. The body is at the Durst Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday by Rev. William J. Yingling, pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Interment will follow in Cook Cemetery, Wellersburg.

James A. Witt, 79, of 49 Second Street, Irwin, Pa., formerly of Dutch Hollow, Mount Savage, died yesterday at his daughter’s residence, Irwin. He had been in failing health for several years. A retired employee of the Celanese Fibers Corporation and the Ali Ghan Shrine Country Club, he was the son of the late Alexander T. and Ida (Crowe) Witt. Mr. Witt was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 245 and a charter member of the legion of the Moose in Keyser. His wife, D. Louise (Winebrenner ) Witt, preceded him in death. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Georgeanna Neat of Irwin; four sons, James W. Witt of Cumberland, Robert R. Witt of Tuscon, Ariz., Kenneth R. Witt of Hyndman and Charles E. Witt of Potomac Park; two brothers, George C. Witt of Potomac Park and Theodore L. Witt of Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister, Miss Dorothy E. Witte, Frostburg, and nine grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary tomorrow and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of memorials to the American Diabetes Foundation, 3701 Old Court Road, Baltimore.

J. G. Witt, Wellersburg, Died This Morning. First Death In Family. His Oldest Child is 66 and the Youngest 46 Years of Age—Lived Where He Was Born All His Life—Oldest Child is Now 66.
Mr. J. G. Witt, the pioneer merchant at Wellersburg, Pa., near Mt. Savage, this county, died at 3 o’clock this morning, aged 84 years. The deceased was a life ling resident of the place and was a wagonmaker by occupation. He is survived by a wife and four children and was the first death in his own immediate family. His oldest child is 66 years of age, and the youngest 46 years old. Mrs. Witt is 82 years old. The deceased was an upright citizen and highly respected by all who knew him. The children are Mrs. A. Gessner, Wellersburg; J. W. Witt and Levi Witt, both of Roanoke, Va., and G. W. Witt, of Wellersburg. The funeral will take place at 10 o’clock Saturday morning from the Lutheran church at Wellersburg, of which the deceased was a member. Mrs. Witt was formerly Miss Shaffer.

Born in Strasburg, Va., she was a daughter of the late George and Alice (Marshall) Zetty and had resided in Manheim 48 years. Her husband, Noah Benjamin Witt, preceded her in death. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. Surviving are three sons, Paul W. Witt, Carneysville; Luther J. Witt, Cumberland; and Cramer M. Witt, Frederick; five daughters, Mrs. Susan Sauer, Knotts Island, N. C.; Mrs. Nina G. Kave, Shepherdstown; Mrs. Jessie A. Long, Clarksburg, and Mrs. Bessie B. Wanger, Manheim and Mrs. Helen M. Cathell, Chesapeake, Va.; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews in this area. The body is at the Walter B. Burke Funeral Home where friends will be received after 3 p.m. today. A service will be conducted there tomorrow at 1 p.m. by Rev. Frank A. Johnson. Interment will follow in the Eglon Cemetery.

The body of Mrs. Mary Magdalene Witt, 76, was found Thursday night at her home in Wellersburg where she lived alone. Death is believed to have occurred sometime Tuesday. She was the widow of Noah E. Witt. Born July 12, 1890, at Kennel’s Mills, near Hyndman, Mrs. Witt was a daughter of the late Daniel and Cadilla (Clites) Troutman. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Gladys Irene Pape, of Eckhart; two sons, Myrle Witt, of Baltimore, and Curtis C. Witt, of here; a sister, Mrs. Lavada Sturtz, here, eight grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. The body is at the Ziegler Funeral Home at Hyndman where the family will receive friends today from 7 until 9 p. m. A service will be conducted at the funeral home today at 2 p.m. by Rev. J. Howard Smith. Burial will be in the Getz Cemetery.

She had been in ill health five months. A native of Wellersburg, she was a daughter of the late William and Ida (Moser) Long, and was the widow of Robert Witt. She was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses. Surviving are a son, Leroy Witt, with whom she resided; a daughter, Mrs. Thelma Masucci, Stormville, N. Y.; a brother Cecil Long, Wellersburg; five sisters, Mrs. Hattie Crissey, Central City, Pa.; Mrs. Alva Weimer, near Wellersburg; Mrs. Pearl Robinette, Bedford Road; Mrs. Bertha Robinette, Wellersburg, and Mrs. Nina Folk, Homewood Addition; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. RIDGELEY, W.Va. — Ray Everline Witt, 77, of Ridgeley, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 1996 at Memorial Hospital. Born Dec. 28, 1918, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Harry and Naomi (Everline) Witt. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Theresa (Gana) Witt; one brother, Marshall Witt; and one sister, Gladys Witt. Mr. Witt was a retired engineer of the B & O Railroad. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Emmanuel-Bethel United Methodist Church; Fort Ashby Veterans of Foreign Wars; and B & O Employees Retirement Club. Surviving are his wife, Ruby C. (Sell) Witt; one son, Ray E. Witt and wife, Elizabeth, Cumberland; one daughter, Annette Deener and husband Michael, Hagerstown; two step-daughters, Jean C. Sell and Joe, Baltimore; Alma C. Henckel and J.J., Crownsville, Md.; three step-sons, P. Ted Sell and wife Kathy, Cleveland, Ohio; Daniel L. Sell and wife Marie, Baltimore; Lawrence W. Mrs. Rebecca Witt, aged 89 years, a life long resident of Wellersburg, died at her home there yesterday afternoon at 5:30 o'clock, death being due to old age. Mrs. Witt was the widow of John G. Witt, who died about nine years ago. She is survived by four children, George W. Witt, of Wellersburg; Levi and John Witt, of Virginia, and Mrs. Angeline Gessner, of Wellersburg. The funeral will take place from her late home tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Interment will be made in Wellersburg.

WELLERSBURG, Pa. - Robert L. Witt, 86, died Sunday, Nov. 13, 1988, at his residence. Born at Wellsburg June 29, 1902, he was a son of the late George and Alice (Moser) Witt. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lillian (Divelbiss) Witt. Mr. Witt retired in 1964 as calendar room supervisor at the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company, at Cumberland, Md. He had worked at the plant 43 years. Mr. Witt was a member of the Zion Lutheran and Reformed Church, Wellersburg; a charter member of the Aerie 245, FO Eagles, Cumberland; and a charter member of the Barrellville Outdoor Club. For many years Mr. Witt was a manager of the Wellersburg baseball team. Surviving are his widow, Ruth E. Witt; one daughter, Yvonne Petenbrink, Pottstown; one brother, Walter Witt, Wellersburg; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman. Services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Zion Lutheran and Reformed Church by the Rev. Harold W. Crabtree. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to services.

Samuel Witt, 80, of Hyattsville, Md., formerly of Connellsville, died Friday in Providence Hospital, Hyattsville. He was born Jan. 6, 1885, in Cooks Mills. He lived in Connellsville for many years before moving to Hyattsville in 1961. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Clara Spangler Witt; a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Lowman of Washington, D.C.; four grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He was a member of Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen No. 218, Baltimore and Ohio Veterans Assn., and Junior Order of American Mechanics No. 166. The body is at the Lee funeral home, Fourth and Massachusetts ave., four blocks from Union Station, Washington, D. C. The funeral will be held there Tuesday afternoon.

Witte; and a sister, Thelma Shook. Surviving are children, Richard A. Witte, Wellersburg and Geraldine Offutt, LaVale; a brother, Lloyd E. Sturtz, Butler; a sister, Madeline Kirby, Grantsville; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Witte was a member of Wellersburg United Methodist Church.
